Hello,
I am a proud owner of the Resurrection Remix ROM but it keeps displaying that there is an update ready to download and install.
So i clicked "Download new Rom Version".
Now i am not sure where the new Rom is located and more important wether or not it is going to delete all my old user data and settings when I install the Update.
Can you give me a quick "How to"?
Thanks in advance!
Kevin
Its located on root of internal sdcard (/mnt/sdcard), and if you are updating from older version of rr, it will not erase anything. It basically downloads rom, reboots to recovery and lets you install new rom. Its then up to you to wipe if you want.
But it asks me what kernel i want to install, what music player and other things like this? Are you sure that my data will be safe?

Yes your data is safe. Only way of wiping your data is by doing a factory reset (deletes All settings and apps ) or erasing sd which deletes all photos music everything

Updating SGS2
Hey am a noob and am wondering how I update my SGS2, I currently run RR V3.1.0 and would like to update to 3.1.2, when I go through the ROM updater on my phone it says file is downloaded and would you like to recover to boot, but there is only a 404.php file downloaded and it doesn't update.
I am currently downloading RR V3.1.2 (395MB) off my pc and am wondering if its possible to update my phone using that download? But I need my data to remain on my device
thanks in advance
Just flash it in recovery and dont wipe anything

Hi everyone
I've downloaded and installed MIUI v5 4.1.3 and today it says I should upgrade to a new version. and I prefer to upgrade because of some bugs.
after I click the version in updater app, it says you should reboot your phone and continue it from CWM.
when I reboot and installing it from CWM suddenly it crashes, and the dead android image appear on the background. after rebooting the device it's still on the pre-version.
How I should upgrade this ROM without loosing any data and app?

Not necessary but you may have problems! When I say full wipe use Philz install a new rom settings in Wipe/Data/Factory Reset menu the second option clean to install new rom. This will leave your internal and external SD cards alone.

You can install from internal because PhilZ recovery does not wipe internal card (unless you ask it to) but I would recommend installing all roms from external in-case for some inexplicable reason your internal gets wiped you would then have no rom to install
When ever you need to update or install new roms always keep on external sd card thats best practice.
If this is OTA Update you just need to go into recovery and try manual updation using install from a file. Goto internal sd card 》 miui 》 and select the file which just came during updation. You can recognize by version number.
If this is zip file dowloaded then it better to have backup first using the TWRM or philz recovery in external sd card. Then flash the zip.
The reason being the update script might have lines of code to format the data/cache/system/delvick. Which in turn you will loose your data after updation.
Note again backup using recovery on external card can help you recover you stuff any time
Cheers

From the screen shot it looks its trying to patch the old ROM with some exisitng library. It failing because may be the lib expecting does not exists or belongs to different version on ROM file.
It tough to to corelate the stuff which is mention in Updater script. You might need to take a look on this file and verify its action against the existing system. Take a look on zip file >> META-INF >> com >> google >> android >> updater-script.

Entirely clear,
but one thing I am not clear (in general) about the internal SD memory: moving from KitKat to Lollipop ROM by using TWRP recovery should I format the internal SD (or delete all content manually)?
In generally, I didn't understand if there's an incompatibility of data applications residues coming from KitKat that might annoy Lollipop.
Thanks in advance

/system format means your Android system is removed
/data format means your apps are erased
/cache format means.. pretty much what it says
That's all what you need for a new ROM. It's called a "clean flash"
A dirty flash would be the above, but without formatting /data. This retains the installed apps and their settings, but it might upset the new system and cause incompatibilities. It's not a recommended move.
But now, if, for some reason (like selling your phone), you'd like to "FULLY wipe" the phone
/data/media fully wipes your visible folders (not system ones, but the one where apps stores data files, photos, images, music etc)
So wiping Data is mandatory? No way to keep the apps, when coming from an older stock rom 10l?
Download link? I tried all links but only ads become in my screen...

Yes, always do when between different Android or ROM versions. Dirty flashing usually only works without issues when upgrading from a ROM version (example) 4.0 to 4.1 etc. But going from Kitkat to Lollipop it is required or the phone may not boot at all. There are obviously plenty of tools to help with backup/restore of apps+settings, but time spent on fresh install well spent compared to fixing issues or doing it all over again later.
Please anyone who downloaded this rom upload the kernel
Hi i have a few questions about this rom
1-is it necessary to install a 4.4.2 rom and then flash this rom or i can clean flash this rom over android HD 4.0 rom that i have right now ?
2-is this rom smooth or it has lags ?
3-how much screen time do u get with this rom?
Thanks in advance

I am using Redmi Note 4 SD625. I was easily running AEX {9.0}, without any problems.
I decided to switch to HavocOS. After installing the zip, and also Gapps {pico}, my phone got stuck on Just a Sec screen after Language Selection. I already tried using different ROMS, clearing Internal Storage, Formatting Data using TWRP, but nothing is working. I really need to get this device going. Please Help. Also, my phone's system UI keeps crashing while on Just a Sec Screen [ black screen and then instant refresh of notification panel]. Is this something to do with my gaps? Please help.:crying:

Just try it once more.
1. Update your TWRP. Use OrangeFox 9 which you can find here. Boot into your recovery and install OrangeFox:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...-orangefox-recovery-project-t3775933?&cf=1
2. Update your firmware. Most people prefer firmware 9.6.1.0 which you can find here. Just flash it in OrangeFox recovery:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/xi..._V9.6.1.0.NCFMIFD_2ffa61cdd6_7.0.zip/download
3. Download the ROM and GApps you want to use and save them to your SD card.
4. Boot into recovery and make all the necessary wipes (Internal, Data etc) and also format "Data". You will have to type "YES"
5. Install the ROM you want to use, install GApps and reboot your phone

You can use internal storage as well.
After you do all the wipes, you will need a computer and can then copy the ROM and GApps to internal storage.
Using a SD card, you won't need a computer.

If system UI keeps crashing, you probably didn't wipe your system before flashing a new ROM.
In OrangeFox go to:
Wipe - Advanced Wipe
and select everything except external storage and "Cust"
then swipe to wipe
After that go back to:
Wipe - Format Data
type "Yes" and format Data.
After that is done, flash the ROM and GApps right afterwards.

After that works, wipe everything and install the ROM and GApps.
Alternatively, Wipe and then "Swipe to Factory Reset" like in the screenshot attached.
If this doesn't work, maybe there's a problem because you encrypted your phone. Maybe this will help then:

Through fastboot, you should use the fastboot ROM, and through TWRP, you should use the recovery ROM.
Thanks. A preferred option ?
Using TWRP do I need to erase stuff before or can I install directly the rom and this is all ?
I guess that recovery room is not the one provided officially by Xiaomi, right ? It the same but packaged a different way ?
Do you know if SD card will be erased during the stock rom flashing process ?
I see on official Xiaomi site that official rom is quite old. Miui11 version so I guess I will need to perform a lot of OTA update... Can I trust recovery rom provided on other websites to have the latest stock rom version ?

The OTA updates come, either in form of fastboot or recovery ROM, when Xiaomi provides an update, you will, also, find the minimal OTA package, yet included in the whole ROM.
In this site, you will find the most up-to-date releases https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/archive/miui/joyeuse/

Nope, both the processes, don't wipe per se, either through recovery or fastboot, in the Mi Flash tool, there is an option to format data, if you like it, if not, it remains un-ticked.
Sorry to insist but what are you calling 'data' ? Is it the SD card content (I don't think so) or is it the data partition on my internal memory ? So it could be :
Photo taken in internal memory
Data stored by apps like photo from WhatsApp or stuff like that ?
Temp file of each app like settings of app, etc.
Would it be a problem if I erase all my phone and loose all my apps but data off app are still there, it will take space for nothing right ?
What about flashed TWRP? will it be removed by the flashing process ? I think TWRP is flashed in recovery partition but not sure.
As you see I'm not familiar with android partition even if I did several times this kind of process with different phones.

Not exactly what I call data, but, what data means in Android World.
Formatting data, it's deleted all the data from apps stored in /data partition, all the data regards settings, all the apps installed by the user, general configurations and all the data stored in internal storage, also the system apps uninstalled by the user can come again.
As per the SD Card, if you have one inside, it is not touched in the process.
If you flash the recovery ROM using TWRP, it won't be overwritten, if you flash the fastboot ROM, you'll lose the access to TWRP.
Thanks. Tell me if I'm wrong but if a choose to flash stock miui 13 version whereas I'm currently in miui12 I should maybe erase data also ? Maybe apps won't works again from 12 to 13 version ? I should be cleaner to reinstall them again don't you think ?
About fastboot stock rom isn't it strange that the official website provides only miui 11 rom whereas your site has miui13 version? How is it possible ? For recovery rom I understand because people can backup their phone and could create a recovery rom like this with miui13 after doing the ota. But for the fastboot rom, if Xiaomi don't provides it and provides only miui11 one, where does the miui13 come from ?

It would work even if you don't erase data, but, I personally prefer erasing it, to avoid some lags/bugs in the future.

Firstly, be sure that your device is Joyeuse.
All the updates, either recovery and fastboot ROM, are provided by Miui, all of them are official updates, not uploaded from users´ devices.
It's A12, not A13, I don't think your device see the light on A13.
Yes android 13. But miui 13 comes with android 12 and my current os is miui12 that comes with android11. (If I'm correct).
I have Redmi note 9 pro, M2003J6B2G (photo is 64M). I don't know where Curtana or joyeuse word can be really found in my phone but after some readings I had the feeling that M2003J6B2G = joyeuse version.

Xiaomi also could update the Miui version, so Miui 13 came with Android 11 for some devices, don't stay there, just check the Android version that is specified in a tab, at the download list.

There are some apps like Device Info and other similar, from Play Store that can tell you, exactly, which your model is, Anyway, Redmi Note 9 Pro is Joyeuse but, be sure, before to proceed, consult some app like the mentioned.

Cpu-z indicate joyeuse-eea. Should be good.
Ok so I will delete the data partition and I will use fastboot flash using Xiaomi tool. I'm not sure to understand your answer about the SD card. Will it be erased during the process ? I know that sdcard are now crypted so that they could be used only by my phone. If the os is modified, maybe I won't be able to read it even if it is not formated. Don't you think ?

Just to not confuse, sdcard is the internal memory, that is symlinked as /data/media/0, all the internal memory is gone when we format data, some folders are recreated at the first boot, after performing it.
SD Card refers to Secure Digital card, that is an external media storage, it is absolutely excluded to any operation from Android, when flashing, updating the system or formatting data, of course, you should consider that some apps like camera can store its pictures there, previous authorization from user, but they will stay there yet, and some folder can be created too, at the first boot, but nothing that harms.
Just to know, sdcard as internal memory is not encrypted at all, it's accessible for any user, always, that can bypass the locking feature of the choice of the user, i.e. PIN, pattern, etc.
Thanks I didn't know that sdcard and SD card weren't the same. My concern is about external memory card (SD card). If not formated. I'm afraid that it couldn't be used after reboot. Except if the decryption key is linked to my phone (hardware) and not the software part (os) of my phone

The encryption is permanent since A6, it remains, at least, you can do something about it, using a custom recovery, a custom module, script, or something, nothing that the end user can worry about, for the normal use of the device.
Trying to guess, you did encrypt your SD card, then the encryption key is linked, only to your SD card, the SD card, specially, in newer Android versions, is treated as a privacy media user concern, so every time more, apps can't access to, as easy as the older times, it is RO by default.
Sorry I have difficulties to read and understand your last message as my English is bad.
Especially the second part... I don't encrypt anything myself. I just now that recent version of Android encrypt the sdcard and it couldn't be used in a computer for instance or another phone. So I think that maybe after new rom flashed. SD card won't be read or write from the phone and I will have to format it myself so that I can read it from my phone. Correct ?

You are again mixing the terms, in the first part, you're saying "...recent version of Android encrypt the sdcard" and linking to the second part, you're saying "...after new rom flashed. SD card won't be read or write"
As I said to you previously /sdcard AKA internal storage is not encrypted at all, at any time, the fact that you need to authorize the MTP connection within your device and a PC, doesn't change that, if you or anyone else, have access to the Android interface, then you or anyone else, can see all the data/files/pictures/audio/video stored, in the internal storage, by using a file manager app, or a specific app for every file instance/format, i.e. a music player for videos/sounds/musics, a gallery app for pictures/images, and so on.
As per the SD card, the same, if the user (you, in this case), didn't encrypt it, then, Android, also, doesn't encrypt it, so you and anyone else, can access to the data stored in it, either during the OS functioning normally, and/or after the flashing/formatting process.
