I guess that it means in Initial Program Loader and may be the secuence of steps to boot the machine.
AFAIK, there are two versions: 1.00 and 1.01. You can extract it from the latest official ROM, create an NBH file and install it using Hard or Soft SPL. Read the Wiki for further instructions on how to do it.

IPL is indeed the Initial program loader, and there's no difference between them really; it just loads the SPL, no idea what the difference is between 1.00 and 1.01 intrinsically, but no noticeable difference.
because after upgrade to 1.01 my wi-fi don't work...i don't know is a problem of upgrading or hardware.
because after upgrade to 1.01 my wi-fi don't work...
Different IPL causing WiFi problems? Just a coincidence. Just as likely as a different MBR (master boot record) on your PC would be causing WiFi problems... (Or maybe not... Maybe my PC USB problems are caused by using GRUB instead of the standard MBR? )

Same thing here. I have upgraded to WM6 a month back and didn't realize that I can no longer turn on WiFi from Connection manager. I have also tried going back to the Original ROM / Radio / SPL with no luck. I have read some where that I must have fried the WiFi Chip in the course of upgrades.
Have you tried starting wifi fron the "bubble"? I, like others, doubt that the IPL upgrade would burn out your wifi. Try that. If you have WM6, you may need a cab called bubblefix to get it working right. But it should work.

I searched for BubbleFix and installed a Cert cab and a dll interestingly the bubble doesnt show WiFi at all. So I went ahead (whats to loose) and installed a LVSW Rom for which I know there is a Bubble with WiFi and same thing there too. The bubble shows everything GPRS, Phone, ActiveSync when connected but no WiFi.
Here's a link to 1.03. Big thanks to POF. But I do not feel this is your problem.

Also, I have noticed under Wireless LAN settings/PowerMode, The Auto turn off WLAN if not connectd, when enabled wont allow me to connect to my wireless network at home. When disabling the setting it connects just fine.

Has nothing to do with IPL, you have screewed your EEPROM where the wifi mac address is stored.

I extracted the radio version 1.20.31.10 from the imate jasjam 1.31.305.2 rom using Asukal's method.
You can find the radio upgrade only and upgrading instructions on the Hermes Extracted Radio ROMs wiki page.
Remember:
- screen will show "Upgrade Radio Stack Please wait........."
- after finishing flashing radio you will see an "Upgrade Error", but the radio ROM will be flashed anyway
- no need to hard reset after upgrading the radio, only soft reset with stylus when upgrade ends.
- upgrade at your own risk, i take no responsiblity for anything that happens to you, your Hermes, your marriage, etc.
This sucks...I followed the directions to the letter and now I'm stuck on the windows mobile screen.
It seems that when it soft-rest, right above the D1.18 (on the bottom center on the screen) NO GSM appears for a few seconds then disappears.
i have exactly the same problem, it just sits at the windows mobile screen.
i am going to do a hard reset to see if that helps
too bad :/ I was just about to upgrade my radio rom with that.. thx for the notice.
Hard-rest doesn't help. I think the issue is NO GSM...the phone doesn't know what to do. And, not being able to activesync, I can't do anything else.
Had the same problem.
Put the device in Boottloader mode (left OK & Power & reset), and loaded Radio 1.16.
Workes !
Probably something went wrong during extracting 1.20 Radio.
oops... sorry guys, i will remove the upgrade inmediately... it worked on my hermes, will try to flash an older rom an try it again! Those who are stuck on windows mobile screen do what torklemm says: flash radio 1.16
That's what I'm trying to do now, I just hope it works.
Thanks.
EDIT: Can't seem to get it to see the phone via activesync. Unable to flash anything at this point.
I am going to give that a try now, will update with the results

You do not need activesync, disable activesync usb connections, put the device in bootloader mode and start the flash utility (ma_upgrade_noid) from 1.16 radio upgrade.

Tried that pof, all is get is "checking the info on your device and don't disconnect, etc" and nothing more. A few minutes later it shows the screen detailing the PPC radio and ROM versions and the radio version that I'm trying to install, but everything is blank. I say yes anyway and it just sits on the "checking the info on your device and don't disconnect, etc" screen forever.
That's why I thought something wasn't right w/o activesync. I'll try again.
EDIT, again: I'm now trying the Cingular 1.13 radio...that seems to be installing. Pray for me guys
EDIT 2: Yeah, I get the same error as you shark1
I get an error stating this utility is not design for this device please get the correct update utility
i have the same problem On boot i see "NO GSM". Now my tytn doesn't boot and also when i try to reload 1.16 radio it stucks... I'll try with 1.13...
1.13 don't go it say it's not designed for my device... o__O
now i'll try 1.11 same problem...
I'm uploading a "hopefully" fixed version on ftp (again, it worked on my hermes from 1.16 to 1.20), do not download it yet until I finish uploading... (17% now) i will edit this post and let you know when it is finished.
EDIT: Upload finished!
POF: OK i will wait, hopefully that will work, at present I will try 1.11 as others are trying 1.13
I get the same update error with 1.11
I have try to find my old phone, so I can make calls
Ok, now I'm totally confused. In bootloader, I don't see USB on the bottom anylonger. if I unplug my USB cable, I see serial...but I can't seem to do anything to get USB recognized again.
Why did I do this???
EDIT: Rebooted everything!
Hi all,
got the same problem. Phone in bootloader and can't go back to 1.16 or lower..... hope the new 1.20 will work

Ok, I've been trying to update my 8525 for hours...here is my problem. First, I tried to HardSPL-v7 but I kept getting an "Error [240] File open". I think this is preventing me from doing any ROM update. When I try to run the Cingular ROM update activesync shuts down and I get a connection error, I think it is "error [260]". I have wiped or cleaned out my 8525 so that I am back to day one. I have tried both ROM updates on 2 separate computers and I get same error messages on both computers. I have searched the Wiki's but have found nothing, so please help. As you can tell, I am a virgin to ROM updates so please go gently.
I should add, my present ver. ROM AKU 2.3 (1.34.502.7018.01H) SPL 1.06 IPL 1.01. Radio is 1.16.
have you taken a look at my Safe WM5 Upgrade Guide??

Ok, I just tried it 2 more times, Hard-SPL. It flashes to the 8525 and goes into bootloader and shows the following "HERM100 IPL-SSPL by Des HERM100 SPL-1.09.ds" at this point activesync 4.5 shuts down the 8525 is stuck in bootloader (it never reboots) and after a few minutes I get "Error [260] Upated Error". Hard SPL shuts down and the 8525 is stuck in bootloader mode. At this point I have been disconnecting the USB cable and doing a soft reset, once the phone is on, I go into bootloader and the old info shows up SPL 1.06 and IPL 1.01.
Let me have a think, firstly do you have the latest versions of the .net framework installed?
I was able to finally run HardSPLv7, I had to do it on another computer. Now, I would like to update to RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2.15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108_Ship.exe. I assume I should use the same computer that I used to successfully run HardSPL. Do I need to rebuild the rom file with RUUWrapper.exe (CustomRUU by olipro) & Dutty's Good NBH Tool, before running the RUU_Hermes_CINGULAR_WWE_2.15.502.3_6275_1.40.30.00_108_Ship.exe update?

Off hand, the major difference would be Intel (worked) vs. AMD (failed) but I doubt that is the problem, you would be flooded with questions due to so many computers that have AMD chips. The USB cable was the same as well. I'll have to think about that...
Definatly check your "failed" computer is up to date with .net and everything else, most likely a software problem.
I have this problem as well..
AT&T 8525 windows moble 6 trying to install the hardspl v7.
v3.5 and 3.0 .net framework.
the RUUwrapper program gets to the 'verifiying info' screen then give me an erroe 240 message. 'the update utility can not open the requested file.'
any help would be great. Looking to add the touch it interface.
thanks,
Mike
Read the post Hard SPL at the top of this forum and go to page 116 ( I believe its post #1160) and use the sd card method. You don't need to use the pc at all. I generally flasah ALL os's using the sd card method as it seems to be safer then using the usb method. No "sync errors" to deal with.
Cheers...
I have the exact same problem..
When it goes to tri-color screen, the USB connection goes off and windows will pop up the search for driver dialogue box.. then afterward another dialogue box will appear saying Error [260].
I tried restarting my pc and device (even removing the battery) but still failure
Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks.

UPDATE
I tried using my friend's laptop and it installed without a problem. I think the issue is with the .NET framework. I installed the latest one before flashing and it worked fine. Hmmm.. Im not sure about this tho.
Hello.... Try the sd card method. You don't need the computer...
Sorry if I sound condescending, but, I seem to find a lot of people saying that they have sync problems. Solution, Take the pc out of the equation (except to load files onto sd card). It is SOOO much safer then using the pc, no "sync" problems, no chance of usb being disconnected, reset button being hit or , worst case scenario, power failure...
You have to either have little or no battery power or MANUALLY hit the reset button with the stylus to stop the flash...
And thats my 2 cents....
Refer to post #13 to find out how to use sd card method to flash hard spl...
Cheers...
sd card method???

Hi I know its been asked for number of times but I can't find the correct answer for this.
I wish to upgrade my radio version to ATT latest radio (HERM_Radinly_1.54.07.00). I have it downloaded from wiki and trying to follow the instruction.
1. Extracted HERM_Radinly_1.54.07.00_CustomRUU.rar.
2. Disabled Active Sync.
3. Entered in Bootloader. Phone connected to machine. Its in USB mode now.
4. Now when I run RUUWrapper.exe, I get a screen where I have to make some selection. And here I need some help. There are following options,
a.SPL 1.01 MFG Bootloader
b.SPL 1.04/1.10 SPL 1.09 Bootloader
c.SPL 1.11/1.13/1/30/1.35/1.40 Bootloader
d.SPL 2.02/2.10 New Bootloader
b. Force Using SSPL
Check Box for Is HardSPL?
Now if some one can help me to find out correct option in the list, I can move further. My current SPL and IPL are in my signature. As far as I remember I have HardSPL done too.
Any help will be really appreciated.

You are right, this has been asked a number of time... . May i suggest another method to load your rom?: SD card. You do not need to use a USB connection (no risk to loose it) nor a PC and it works perfectly.
1> format a sdcard in FAT32 (use a card of max 2GB)
2> copy the .nbh file to it (Preferably the only file on the card)
3> rename the file: HERMIMG.NBH
4> insert the card and push: OK-POWER-SOFT RESET (to go to the 3 colors screen). It will detect your hermimg file (says "loading" in blue) and describe the content
5> follow instructions on screen.
And that's it ! Just note that flashing a radio rom is slow. This means that you will have the impression that it stops time to time. Just be patient
Oh... by the way, having tried nearly all radios available, 1.47 is for me the best compromize between battery drain and performances (at least in my area). But, once again, this is a matter of taste. Make your religion
Thanks a lot. Actually I have followed the same process while upgrading from WM5 to vp 3G's WM6. But I was not aware that I can use same process to upgrade the radio only. And to my surprise it worked like a charm. Appreciate your help in this matter. I will update you with my experience on this radio version.
Thanks -nbhor
Hi Guys,
I am having the usual radio issues atm, no version showing etc.
I have gone through the wiki and read the thread by POF on the issue and tried flashing a half a million times (ok maybe not but you know what I mean :-0)
So here is my issue now, I would love to try flasing via SD but mine just won't do it, doesn't even ask a damn thing once in bootloader, just sits there.
I am running 2.10.olipro loader and IPL 1.04, should this work for doing radio updates or any updates off the SD card? I can read it fine and copy dump to it from both PC and PDA and I have tried to working cards aswell. Any ideas?
Cheers Glenn
Ps I just noted that nbhor is running exactly what I am running and it worked ok for him - WTF?

With PPCGeeks undergoing their upgrade, where can I download 2.40-olipro from in the mean time? I'm wanting to do some rom upgrades but it seems I need this to unload things for it. I'm trying to install the radio 3.27 and one of the titan 2.x roms with the GPS update.

I did and 2.40 olipro only gave me messages saying that I needed it, not that it was called TitanUnlock. Thanks for the link.
Did I miss somthing?
I downloaded the file and it still said version 1.20Olipro did I miss something?
I saw that it was 1.2 but it didn't register that it was the wrong version and that probably explains the problems I was having trying to load the new rom.
olipro 2.40 here you go
this is the link when ppcgeeks.com comes back up you can get it.
however attached is the file you want and need. BUTTTTTTTTTT
you will now need to find the "re-locker" so you can relock the old olipro and use the new.
Thanks for the file, but I guess if I need to find another program, will wait for either ppcgeeks to come back up or sprint to release the offical rom.
Does anyone have the program for "re-locker"?
Here's the file with the proper name. It's not the easiest to find especially with the other side being down. So without being rude I shall set you in the right direction. Plus if you search for "titan unlocker" as per the other file name you are liable to be loading the OLD unlocker not new since it is generically named such.
edit....
Sorry I guess my interrution while posting this caused me to duplicate someones post....
Thank you for the links. You are far from being rude, but show you understand that all the searching in the world won't help when you don't have the right information and that one of the main supports is missing.
Thank you all for your help! I ended up googling and searching and came upon this post from another board.
"I had the exact same problem.
Connect your phone (while in Windows, not from the bootloader) to your computer and make sure it creates an ActiveSync connection.
Download the file from here: ftp://ppcgeeks:[email protected] . Extract it and it should launch the Titanunlocker.bat. If it doesn't, just launch the batch file from the place you extracted the files. Follow the prompts, and when it's done, you should have 2.40 installed. I too couldn't get 1.20 off, but after I did this, I now have 2.40 bootloader."
----------------
Also if you are stuck with the bootloader screen (rainbow) you can just run titan_exitbl.exe in the file I've included it will allow you to boot. Also you must disable activesync from looking for usb connections if you have to go the titan_exitbl.exe route.
The file listed able will actually attempt to update to 2.40 once you run it, really automated.
Thanks to PDAPhoneHome's jrider for the post.
I was on 1.20, but I didn't have to relock or anything to upgrade to 2.40. I just went onto the bootloader screen, then ran the RUU exe for 2.40 in the TitanUnlocker zip.

Dude...this is the Titan forum, not Apache. Why you would try altering your bootloader with unlockers specifically meant for other devices (kaiser & titan) is beyond me.

This post shows that people are not worried about what they do to their phone. 911, you need to read the wiki for your phone (APACHE 6700) and do not use any software or roms for other devices (i.e. 6800, Kaiser, Titan, etc) unless you are 100% certain what you are doing. You are really close to hosing your phone.

Hi to everyone,
I've read dozens of pages on how to do a HardSPL in Prophet G4, but i simply can't have success...
I've tried 4 or 5 methods that I found here, but none of them had been suceded...
I get a white screen, i get the 3 color screen, the connection fails...
I din't know what to do more... Can somebody help me, pleeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee....
I use Win XP Pro, and my Prophet gives me this info when I do Soft Reset:
IPL 2.10.0001
SPL 2.20.0001
GSM 02.47.21
OS 2.20.734
I was already able to change ROM once, because I had it in portuguese and now is in english, and with other logos.
But what I would like was to install WM6.1 or 6.5...
The HardSPL *.bat file gives me this information, now:
"One or more CON code pages invalid for givem keyboard code"
"cerun:failed to execute program"
Can somebody give me some idea?
Thank you so much in advance!
I was in the same situation as you. You have to find the rom:
RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_NVID.exe
Search in the forum for the rom. After extracting the rom, run the file: ROMUpdateUtility_No_VenderID.exe.
It will survive your device. then you can install a wm6x rom from this site.
Don't forget to do hard spl your device next time.
Edit: It seems the rom is here:
http ://xvx45-spf.4shared.com/account/file/12240109/ca99469a/RUU_Prophet_220734_2207114_024721_NVID.html
Also there is a "readme.doc" in the rom dir. Read the section 8. It is written for you.

Hi keenblade,
I was able to do that. My PPC went with the 3 color screen, and then I user a rom with No vendor. I disabled USB connection in ActiveSync, and then I could do that. I brought my PPC back.
My problem is just the HardSPL... I just can't do it... I've tried so many tomes and with so many files that I think i need some straight orientation, or i don't know what was wrong...
In this moment i have the PPC with WM5, but what i really would like to do is make a HardSPL to install WM6...
Did you try "Prophet Upgrade" tool? Before running the tool, you have to connect with activesync.

Yes, i've used Prophet Tools already...
I guess i'm doing something wrong... I've tried again now, and went again with the 3 color screen. I'm injecting a NoVendor Rom again.
When doing HardSPL, when the screen turns white, i must disconnect and reconnect device and just wait that software finishes, right? There is a moment that nothing happensm but then ActiveSync recognizes again the PPC.
I'm i right? I must do that again. It must be somtging that i'm doing wrong...

When the screen turns white, I do nothing. Just wait. I don't disconnect and reconnect device. Maybe this is the problem. Do not touch the device when screen turns white. It will continue eventually. Also use the latest Prophet Upgrade tool v2.6.
Let's see what will happen.

I got it! I've followed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=349900&page=9
And now I have a brand new WM 6.5 in my old Prophet!!!!!
Thank you very much!
Nice to see you get your prophet back to life. I still use wm6.1. Because it is said wpa2 does not work with wm6.5. I haven't try wpa2, yet.
Best wishes.

That's a good question... as i live in a non populated wifi area, i use just WPA, and it's fine. I must try WPA2, to check that.
and btw, 6.5 rom from babak00000 is just great. Love it.
