GPRS settings and MMS settings... - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

hi all!
virgin n00b alert!
MrVanx's excellent clear upgrade guide has got me well-motivated to get the show on the road.
I have just bought my first ever phone (a sim-locked Softbank X01HT) here in Osaka with WM5 Japanese OS & I'm keen to give Black Shadow(4.0) a whirl.
All the resources/tutorials around here for first timers are very clear so I'd like to take the opportunity to give thumbs up feedback from a beginner's perspective to those who put the effort in. Thanks.
With regard to the 'Housekeeping' section of MrVanx's guide - just to be extra careful - could someone please confirm the following checklist of what to back up.... (NB I have no third party apps installed - it's straight out the shop)
1. Device name... start>settings>system>About>Device ID
2. GPRS settings... start>settings>connections>connections (what specifically are these settings?)
3. MMS settings... start>messaging>options>MMS>servers (what specifically are these settings?)
Once I'm through to the other side I'll be restoring settings as per MrVanx's tutorial; hopefully the above is all I needed to take with me from before?
Any tips/reassurance with regard to housekeeping (or anything else related to flashing Japanese Softbank devices) will do wonders for my confidence.
Thanks in advance.

Known Issues with new Cingular ROM (2.06.502.3)

Not to be redundant with other threads, but to compile in one place, maybe we can list in this thread the known issues in the new Cingular ROM, with links to the other threads where solutions/ideas are being discussed. Some of those which come to mind are the following:
Goodlink Integration with Dialer not Working
PIE Proxy Issues (and related VPN troubles)
SD Card Not Reading Correctly
Disappearance of SmartDialer ... which should be fixable with the cab file located here.
Additionally, know helpful registry tweaks are being (and should be) compiled here
And finally, some helpful fixes/mods:
PTT Fix - to take back control over the PTT button (especially useful if you don't plan to use PTT)
BandSwitch - to manage your connections (and thereby increase battery life)
Well, this is just a start.
What are the SD problems? I haven't run into anything yet...
Check the link I provided on the first post.. many folks (myself included) have intermittent problems where the directories on the card are no longer visible (until after a soft reset and/or removal and re-insertion of the card).
Bummer. I hope that doesn't hapen to me. But if this XDA-Lives ROM is released, hopefully I won't be using Cingular's (AT&T's) 2.06 ROM much longer!
Some, including myself, have lost SmartDialer.
I'm trying to find a solution.

Yeah, I have this problem too. Luckily I've been using the E-Ten Dialer, so I'm not used to the Smart Dialer. But it'd be nice if I had it available, since I'm not using E-Ten anymore.
A lot of people use PTTfix. Might want to put a shortcut to sleuth's thread, as his latest release apparently fixes the issues with it. (I'll post it if I happen to stumble across it in my journies of trying to catch up with the latest posts.)
EDIT: Here's the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=279585

Yes, but is that really an issue or a feature? I am sure Cingular would consider it a feature, but everyone knows it's total crap.
Smart Dialer coment:
Some are having issues with new ROM and no smart dialer. I had no problems, but I also know that installing ETen Big Button Dialer (available at 8525software.com) disables Smart Dialer. So I tested it. Install ETen and as supposed too, no smart dial. Then I unistall ETen and the smart dial is back working ok. Also in the phone screen the right soft key has an option for the Smart Dialer, make sure it is turned on.
Now if anyone can get ETEN to work WITH smartdial, that would be cool.
I could not get E-Ten to work with SmartDial, though purportedly you can... see link here for discussion on this issue.
If you do get it working, an easy step-by-step would be appreciated!

Heh.. I definitely consider it an issue.. Cingular does say feature no doubt, but I should still have the ability to remap that button. Hence the reason I suggested it.
I added it to the first page (which I am updating as folks add thoughts)

That fixed it for me.
Thanks Wpbear and MVT.

Eten Dialer WITH SmartDial Works for me but the ATT name is scrunched up a little. But everything works.
SEE My next post. Soory
Were you intending to attach files to your last post? Not sure I can follow it.
This has Portrait and Landscape Mode w/Smart Dial, Look pretty good.
Excellent -- seems to work .. now I will see if those black glass skins work with it -- thanks

I unzipped it ... just install the cab file, restart, and it should work ... or am I missing something? At the moment I don't have any version of the e-ten dialer installed (do I need to do that first?)

No the zip with the cab has the smartdialer and the ETEN buttons.

Upgrading ROM, how to get back settings?

Hi all... first post and all that, plus novice when it comes to flashing ROMS etc!!!
My question is, if I upgade my ROM, how to I get back all the T-Mobile (UK) GPRS/3G internet settings etc?
I don't mind loosing any installed programs cos I know I can easily re-install, but finding those setting is currently stopping me from upgrading my MDA Vario II
Cheers, Stew
Configure your settings manually.

As the post above says, configure the settings manually, if you are planning on changing ROMs (if you go with XDA-Live you have to configure manually anyway) then its always best to know the settings fairly well.
SMS and voicemail settings are provided by the network so you dont need to know them, the GPRS settings can be found here and the MMS settings can be found here good luck!
A good place to start is to have an activesync account with someone like Mail2Web so you just resync to get back your contacts/email/calendar appointments and tasks (yes you lose them aswell when you upgrade your rom).
Ok, so manual re-input it is... thanks for the prompt reply
Another tiny question, the Extrended ROM - it the contents worth keeping once a ROM update is done? I was kindof hoping that T-Mobile might have used this for all their settings???!!!
Probably not really worth keeping, unless there is any games etc???
What ROM were you intending to upgrade to?
Yeah, they might be in there. But most likely they're in an XML file somewhere in the orig ROM... I think. Isn't this where carrier GPRS, MMS, etc settings come from?
EDIT: You can try these CAB files, but I the ones I tried for my carrier didn't work.

I'm gonna wait until the next release of WM6 (hopefully in the next few days)... I've been reading the thread and it sounds fantastic! for now though, all I've done is upgrade the radio to v1.27... Even though I have a new Vario II, the ROM (currently v1.21) and radio was old - so I really want to update the little beast as soon as possible...!
Have you tried any of the WM6 Roms on a UK T-Mobile Vario 2 yet?
Looks like you are at the same stage as me, I have updated mine RadioROM to 1.27 aswell.
In addition I have backed up the entire ExtROM and the customisation cabs located in the Windows folder just encase.
However I have yet to make the push to WM6, when you do let me know how it goes?

Working Dialer Skins for Cing8525, Latest Cing Rom...

I just spent the last hour and a half or so reading various threads about updating the Dialer Skins on the Hermes, and I'm now quite confused. each one seems to have its drawbacks, such as things not working afterwards.
What I need is a Dialer Skin with big buttons, that has ALL THE FUNCTIONALITY of the factory dialer skin. I don't want ANYTHING missing, broken, etc.
Does this exist? I'm running the latest Cingular rom (the one dated 4/9/07) from htc's website. my phone is not cid nor sim unlocked; I don't want to void my warranty. The 8525 doesn't have the front video camera, so I don't need the video button.
But I really need a dialer skin that works as the factory does, with all the functionality (Smart dial, history, PTT(?), etc.). Dark colors, vista look, clear buttons etc. would be nice, but not required. All that I require is Big, one finger buttons and ALL functionality working properly.
Can someone please point me in the right direction? I've done due dilligence in reading and searching threads and the wiki.
Thanks in advance!

Try this link. There are many dialpad skins listed. Pick one and give it a try. They are uninstallable so if you don't like it, just uninstall it.
http://www.paulya.com/dialerskins.htm
Thanks for the link.
I am also confused!
I looked at the above recommended website and;
1. I do not know how to remove the "Etan dialer" (I assume this is the skin that Cingular/AT&T has supplied with the 8525?
2. Are the skins that I see displaying larger numbers than the default?
PLEASE chime in and help us!

[Q] BsB Tweaks 1.6 - User guide

The above app. is indeed fantastic and helped me to solve a couple of problems in my HD2 Leo, however to take full advantage of it, I (and probably also other people) would like to know what each item will do or not to your device function.
Somebody knows about a user guide even simple, but clear ???

[BV9000 Pro] Setup Wizard Error Loop and the conniving practices of some companies

QUICK RANT:
There are people with similar problems on Blackview's forum website, so I thought to add another unsolved google result to the mix. Apparently every thread and comment are approved my their moderators, even with the promise that each one is answered within a day, all of my thread requests and comments have been blocked. I assume this has to do with maintaining product confidence. At surface level all the issues seem minimal and the threads all have answers. Someone even stupidly asked If the phone would get the Oreo update, now their lone approved post in the rom section is the poster-child for post release support "hope". I guess I am stupid for buying this inaccessible paperweight.
MY PROBLEM:
No matter what option I select at the startup, the device stalls on the connect to wifi and check for update screen. No amount of updating or even suggested OTA upgrade will fix this especially given that OTA requires access to the options/settings screen that is only found post startup. I have basic experience flashing a droid III to make it compatible with different carriers. I don't have experience flashing newer phones or custom roms. Please don't put my thread in limbo, you are my only hope frontier superusers!
Edit/Update:
I figured out a work around based on a YouTube video I watched that explained that you need to access the settings menu to force stop the "startup wizard" process. I accessed it through using the contact/feedback page feature of the third-party custom emoji keyboard that comes stock on the Android. Perhaps I shouldn't detail anymore in case seeing how this is a hole in the Android nougat security. PM me for more details if you want.
TLDR; there is a stock app on these phones that allow you to bypass a bugged startup wizard and resume basic setup and function of the phone as long as it has not been synced with a previous Google account no flashing required.
I had no issues with the setup wizard, it just needed some time. (I skipped it on the first start to perform a OTA update before make any more settings. After this update everything works like it should.)
Same problem
I have the exact same issue. The installation wizard keeps on quiting. Drives me nuts too. I does not matter what I do and what options I choose, with or without sim, with or without wifi. It has something to do with the android version, more android telephones are affected. However on other phones (see YouTube) you can still access the normal menu and work around the issue. With the BV9000PRO this does not work.
Hi. I'm having the exact same problem on my bv9000 pro, but when I access the boot menu, it's in Chinese. Are the menu settings in the same order as in English? That way, I may be able toggle/turn off that setup wizard and be able to use the phone. Thanks.
This works for me
This worked on my phone: copied from a YouTube post:
Disable all the wi-fi connections in the radius of the Phone, skip the procedure for the SIM, at this point it will ask you if you want to continue without connections and yes, do not enter the name and surname to give the phone a name, accept the Google / Android agreements, at this point the phone will be activated, no update is necessary via OTA if you have the BV9000 PRO-F phone (full HD version). There are two versions of this PRO series phone, the BV9000 PRO (not full HD) and the BV9000 PRO-F (full HD). I hope this solution will work for you too. Let me know bye.
I had the same and trouble shooted through it all and the only issue I have left is finding a carrier for the USA and if or how to change parameters of Bv 9000 phone frequencies to work in the United States. Any advice from anybody in the world please send advice, Tony

Hello everybody,
trust my message finds you well.
Sorry for posting this here, but i am not able to post a new thread and honestly i have been dealing with blackview sites and their admins with no luck , they dont answer your questions, neither do any support, nothing !
I have a blackview BV9000 pro, my screen broke up but is still working.
I bought a new screen and installed it but didn't work.'
'
After reading some forums, i understood that the new screens that are sell now are FHD+ and we need to upgrade our ROM so the new screen can work.
My questions are now :
1- where can i find this new rom that includes English and google play services.
2- if i install it, my old screen will still work?
3- this rom will let the new FHD+ screen to work?
thank you in advance.
Hi I know this is an old thread but I have issues with my second Blackview phone that is the BL6000 Pro.
To answer you: I have found several links to stock roms on the Blackview forum, they might even be interchangeable but I haven't tried.
I am currently seeking support to see if flashing with another "series" ROM will fix the Bl6000 pro hardware compatibility issues.
