Hey
I'm no expert with these things but I'm trying to get a mkv 720p file I downloaded to work on my Sony ericsson Arc. Rather than re-encode (takes ages!) I use a program called gotsent, that repackages the MKV into an MP4 that the phone can then play. Sometimes this works, and phones plays the file flawlessly, other times it fails to play. I use VLC media properties to get the information about the files. Two files the phone plays flawlessly. One already converted as it's a HD mp4 trailer from the web and the other a SD MKV that I
converted.
Fast Furious Trailer works
Stream 0
Type Video
Code: H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part10) (avc1)
Resolution: 1280x720
Frame Rate: 23.976023
Stream 1
Type Audio
Codec: MPEG AAc Audio (mp4a)
Channels: Stereo
Sample rate: 48000Hz
SD MKV FILM COVERTED TO MP4 works
Stream 0
Type Audio
Codec: MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a)
Channels: Stereo
Sample Rate: 48000 Hz
AAC extension: SBR
Stream 1
Type: Video
Codec: H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (Part 10) (avc1)
Resolution 672.352
Frame rate: 25
Now the one that doesn't work after converting,
720p HD Mkv converted to mp4 using GotSent
Stream 0
Type Audio
Codec: MPEG AAC Audio (mp4a)
Channels: stereo
Sample rate: 48000Hz
Stream 1
Type Video
Codec H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc1)
Resolution 1280x720
Frame rate 23.9767023.
Does anybody know what is going wrong and why the third file refuses to play?
Thanks for any help.
Dan
Try MoboPlayer, it's i thought free on the market. ;0
+1 for Mobo player
Thanks for the advise. However, I have tried Moboplayer, QQplayer, rock player. I find that these will all play HD files that the preinstalled player does well. However, MKV, convter MKV to MP4, the player will render using cpu only, and thus stutter.
I really belittled by how two files, looking identical in their properties, one if playing fine and the other is failing.
It is really an important feature for me, as the HDMI port and HD files will make an ideal media player/network streamer.
Cheers
As far as 720p/1080p mkv's are concerned only Samsung galaxy s1(720p) n s2 n their top end wave models can do it!

Hi. I do know this and willing to sell my Arc to get a Galaxy s2 but the Arc is capable of hardware accelarated mp4 video.
Please read my original post. I'm not trying to play Mkv's on the device, but MP4, which has been converted from MKV H264. Some files play others will not, but their properties look identical.
i think I may have more luck asking in an encoding video sort of forum? Any of you know another forum where I may find someone who could answer my question?

u gotta be kidding lol
*Edit- Try muxing the mp4 where Stream 0 is video and Stream 1 is audio. It may be as simple as that...
if not,
Can you post the full media info for the offending file?
Look especially for Format Profile and Format settings, ReFrames. If either of these are too high that may be your problem. Format Profile should be [email protected] or lower and ReFrames should be 8 or less (I think). Even PS3 and some other devices will not play videos outside those parameters. The professionally encoded stuff will work 'cause they know this and make it work on all devices. "Other" encoders usually try to do the same but some ignore it. You can change the Profile Level without reencoding but not the ReFrames.
The only thing I can think of other than that is if the bitrate is much higher than the one that works.
Does anyone know if the stock video player can playback AC3 audio in the MP4 container? I got some MKV movies that I extracted into h.264 and AC3 files then placed them in an MP4 container. I didn't want to encode the audio down to 2 channel AAC, but I don't know if the Galaxy Tab can play AC3 in MP4 container. Don't have my Tab with me at the moment to test it.
Sometimes MP4 files with AC3 audio cannot be played well[/URL]. To solve this issue, I know a quite nice way. It can help can convert various video to MP4 video with AAC stereo (2 channels), MP4 video with AAC 5.1(6 channels), MP4 video with AC3 stereo and MP4 video with AC3 5.1. In addition, it can convert various format video to AVI with MP3 or AC3 5.1, MKV with AAC or AC3 5.1 audio, MOV with AAC 5.1 audio, MPEG-2 with AC3 audio as well as convert video and audio to audio only AC3 5.1, AAC 5.1, AIFF 5.1 and WAV 5.1.
The versatile video converter presets ready playback video for many devices like Apple TV, PS3, iPod, iPad, iPhone, Zune and more. So you can enjoy movies with excellent video and audio quality on your devices wherever you like.
To find it, google search "step by step guide on how to convert and play MTS/VOB/MKV and more video to MP4 AC3 5.1".
Hi,
I wanted to play a video recorded by SGS2 in .mp4 format, but it looks like nothing out there can support it. It plays without any problems on the phone, but VLC, WMP and even WinAmp can't recognize the codec used. My question is - what is the video codec and is there anything that can play/convert it?
The *.MP4 file is a wrapper that binds both the video and audio + subtitles file.
Depending on the resolution, it can also be a *.3GP file.
*.MP4 usually uses H.264 video compression and AAC for audio format.
*.3GP stores video streams of H.263 or AVC/H.264 format, and AMR audio format.
In Windows 7, H.264 is supported without requiring to install any codecs.
3GP however is not supported in Windows 7.
If you are using Windows XP, you not only need the H.264 codec, you also need a MP4 splitter. As for 3GP, you need a codec for that as well.
Haali Media Splitter is useful for both MP4 and MKV files as a splitter.
FFDShow is a great all in one codec package for H.264, x.264, H.263.

I have no problem to play my mp4 files recorded by using my SGS2 with VLC.
Maybe you should check for an update of your VLC media player.

Does anyone know what codecs and audio bitrates are supported by this device?
I'm having a heck of a time getting some videos to have sound whatsoever. I continue to re-encode the audio but still haven't gotten sound.
I know that it supports lots of containers (AVI, MKV, MP4, etc.), but I cannot find specifics on what video codecs and audio codecs/bit-rates are supported for playback.
Any input is appreciated.
I copy directly from the Prime Manual.

Just used those above. only get audio on dice.
Awesome that one works. I'm confused as to why there's a difference. all play video fine. only one does audio.

Each player also uses their own codec, that's the thing about Android.
You can also contact the player maker, and let them know of your problem and ask them for implmenting codec or other.
With Mx video player you can set it up to play audio via software while the video plays through hardware. You should rarely ever need to encode when using that player.
Do your videos have sound when played back on the PC?
I guess to MX video player it is very good.
