Telstra JAJAM LIfe
Hi. JASJAM Telstra Australia was:
WM5 - Radio 1.38.00.10 -- Battery generally flat by end of work day about 4hrs calls per day & activesync to Exchange server every 1/2 hour
WM6 Black satin, Radio 1,51.00.10 - Battery flat by/before lunchtime.. Cant get to end of day , even if charging when in the car with usb charger /lead.
I think I need to fix my proper imate car charger (lead broke) as it appears to charge faster when some of the extra pins in the miniusb connector are shorted to (ground?) & this is not done when using generic USB charger & a lead.
I dont know whether its a "feature" of WM6, but when the device syncs now, I see an extra 3G or H icon appear (tiny) next to signal strength indicator & it stays there unless you press & hold "hang up" If data acess remains on, that would make the battery life suck obviously... I wonder if it can be made to cut off after x minutes? I realise this is unrelated, but I have also been experienceing a failure of the windows "Start" icon & key on today screen after using the phone a couple of times & making notes in a call.
I will downgrade to Radio 1.50.00.00 I think & try it. But there were some posts about only versions ending in .10 working in some places ??
8Meg Pool WM5 AKU 3.3F - 4-5% lost overnight (8hours)
4Meg Pool WM6 AKU 6.0 - 25% lost overnight (8hours)
The only software I install is PA for both device. I going to revert back to WM5 as I had monitor WM6 AKU 6.0 for 2 days and I had been getting 25% lost each night.
well now using 4mb page pool... also having 25% lost overnight.... only install HTC home n iLauncher....
good that ur posting here the important thing like this. pls guys, keep on posting..
maybe i will go back also to the beta version of WM6 which give me 2 days on my batt.

i just want to know where can i buy online , a cheaper but higher capacity batt.
which one ur using @ultimate? mAH?
I'm using a local brand Worcell, 1530Mah, Japan Cells. Tested to perform slightly better than the O2 supplied Taiwan battery of the same rating by me (difference of 1% drain overnight). I switched it because the battery randomly looses its charge, and had no problems since.
4-5% drain overnight, ~40% whole day use, inclusive of RSS reading and 2 35-minute bus journeys of A2DP goodness. ^_^
Without A2DP I get ~29% whole day use.
wm6 atom rom 0.3 or 0.7 = 25% overnight (without any software)
wm5 atom exec rom = 4% overnight (with WA2, HTC Home, pocket brease...)
ATOM WM6 AKU 0.7 8MB pagepool with HTC Home plugin & Touch Cube
ATOM WM6 AKU 0.7 8MB pagepool with HTC Home plugin & Touch Cube
15hours (9am-12midnite) usage and my battery is down to 60-70% of battery power left. I think thats pretty good battery life ( I switch off bluetooth though) - just normal PDA usage, SMS and some short phone calls.
Before, when I was at WM5 (with Xda-Atom-ENG-20060426-MOT0822), I didnt get such a good performance from my battery - battery would drain until 30% battery power left at end of day - but thats when I also left my bluetooth on all day.
I'm still using the original battery that came with my ATOM.
Did anyone replace original battery? where´s buy?

so ur battery last for 2-3 days?
please post also for how many days ur battery last? which batt ur using? and the normal calls duration u have in a day.
exactly what i was shouting about
wm6 8pp
if once fully charged it can work for 1 day + 6 hr
and earlier it was 3 days
I am again getting 25% loss after i hard reset and did not install Phone Alarm.
I can get good battery life.. i will revert back to WM5 AKU 3.3F to see any difference. Let me sync my data first
I am using the 4 meg pool.... anyone using different meg pool like 6 or 8.. What pool did you use to get 4-5 % loss

~2 days at the most with my normal usage. 12 hours if I accidentially leave a game running in the background.
I get pretty much the same results for 3.3F, so no difference there.
Guys, please remember that you have to redo the standard power saving tips (e.g turn off Recieve Incoming Beams) every time you hard reset or reflash your device. Make it a habit.

i will monitor again my battery for the upcoming release of new ROM. Hope jiggs can finish that soon.
as of now maximum 2 days i can use my atom with normal duration and numbers of calls i have. Im in Bank Sales, thats the reason my phone is quite busy yet i manage to have the battery life for 2days. that's better for me.
UPDATE - So i discovered what provoques the baterry drainage in my prophet! And guess what, it's not the ROM fault... Check this post.
Hi!
For me one of the most important "features" of a cooked ROM is the battery consumption. What good is for me a rom that does a lot but i have to charge the phone every day?
So i have done some tests and these are the results i got but i also would like to ask that all you users of cooked ROMs post your results to get a environmental friendly ROM
With the WM6.1 ROMS (all of them, clean or not, Cloudyfa, hma4 and korands) i got 4% per hour of battery drain.
With the WM6 ROM (Crystal V5.1) i get 2.5% per hour of drainage.
The fact is that Crystal is not a clean ROM, so the drainage does not seem to be related to that.
After some reading i checked a conversation between Cloudyfa and hma4 and they were mentioning a difference in using "DLLs"(Cloudyfa ROMs) or "modules"(hma4 ROMs) and also images weight(hma4 ROMs).
So, is the battery drainage related to the WM battery drivers or to these "modules" and light images that hma4 uses?
I really love all these new WM6.1 ROMs, and i love because i tried them all, not just talking about the post thumbnails, but the battery drainage is high. I offer to be a beta tester of a less hungry ROM!
Hope i made my self clear as i'm not english
Thanks.

I have tried almost WM6 Released and also WM6.1. But for me, the battery drain seems not too different, the Prophet last around 2 days for normal using with WM6 or WM6.1
So from my opinion the battery drain is not big issue in WM6 and WM6.1.
Correct me if i am wrong.

With all the WM6.1 i had a 4% per hour consumption in Standby! So about 24h of autonomy in standby.. I forgot to mention this in the original post. I think its not the battery running old because i get better results with Crystal5.1..
yes it's true, I also noticed that battery drains faster when I switch from Korand 2.6 to 3 or shadow 2.0 ce.
there must be something that drains the battery faster, a driver...smthn.
hope our great cooks will sort this one out too.
thanks for cookin' and keep it up!
just to let you guys know, I'm having the same 'problem'.
Battery drainage is way higher since i'm using WM 6.1 even though I just bought a brand new battery. Like in the opening post with me it also almost doubled.

Could you please be more specific?
With Korand 2.5 (on stand by)I have 1% per hour like with Korand 3.1
The best Battery consumption I have ever had was with Crystal 5 (0,5%/h but it was too unstable for using it seriously)
Different OEMDrivers hava differnet battery consumption.

Is it possible to use WM5 drivers on these new ROMs to get better autonomy? (i'm a programming ZERO )
I get the same problem with battery drainage using WM6.1. My Prophet (Xda Neo) got ~2% per hour using WM6.1 (ShadoW 2 CE/TE, Korand 3) but got less than 1% per hour (around 2% per 3 hours) using ShadoW 1 CE.
I was wondering why it does this way, too.
P/s: I forgot a little thing: the number I've posted is the one I got when my Prophet in Standby mode
Possibility source problem for battery drain
All,
Actually i still don't get the main problem since all of you only talking about WM6.1 drain problem.
To understand that WM 6.1 has bigger battery drain, can you inform which WM6.1 cause the battery drain issue at your prophet, is it for all wm6.1 ?
From my opinion, wm6.1 Clear Edition will have less battery drain since it is not load many application during standby such as HTC Home and other applications running in the background.
Can you inform the WM6.1 Version and the battery drain, so we can have better solution for which caused the battery problem.
Cheers

In my case i spent a whole day flashing and taking notes.
Method: Flashed the ROM, Hard Reset and then tested battery for 1 hour in Standby mode.
I had these drainage results:
STANDBY:
[WM6.1]
ShadoW 2.0 CE and TE: 4% / hour
Korand 3.1: 4% / hour
[WM6]
Crystal 5.1: 2.5% / hour
I tested other ROMs but based on ShadoW ones and the results were similar to the "original" ShadoW.

I will compare WM6 and Wm6.1 Battery drain, My Prophet with Korand 2.6 last around 2 days with standard using without HTC home, and when i use HTC home the prophet only stand 1.5 days...
Now I am trying Korand 3.1 hope 2-3 days ahead can have the result for battery drain....

Please try to be the most comparative as possible. Because we can only have faithful results by comparing with other ROMs.
HTC Prophet is an "old" device so the battery after 3/4 years will start to "die".
First of all my battery is not old (less than 1 year) and I have never had this experience with my other wm6 (with touch or without) roms. My current rom is better in battery consumption, that's why I reverted back. In this rom (see signature if you want a comparison) everything works fine.
i will wait until a next version.

are you sure?
I use battery for two days.(with many calls), sometimes for 3 days. If there are a lot of programs that running on the background.. It will take more battery drain.. So make sure that you close the program.
And which RADIO ROM do you use?
okay..you use 2.47 as your radio rom.. it takes more battery drain.
I use 2.19 --> good for battery life.
Where can i download different radio versions?
From what you said i presume that radio roms are independent from flashing OS ROMS?
How long does your battery last?
I pluged my phone into the charger to charge and took it out only this morning.
After about 10+ hrs, my battery has only 33% left!!
I know abt the problems with atom life's battery but it seems to drain too much power...
I'm using Medkid's PDAVIET Rom and installed only HTC Home plug in and HHC.
Sorry 4got to mention.
There was minimal usage and did not use phone. Less than 5 minutes ( juz switch on to see time etc).
check your cpu profile though,
also if u set to best for performance the battery drain real fast, plus any wi-fi and bluetooth will just kill it quick.
i think mine last longer than ya, last time i remember i went away for a night my battery still 40% the next morning.
but yep despite the powerful atom life, its baterry sux. hope other manufacturer could provide the same size battery with better power management.
Woah 60% drain for a whole day is way better den mine...
I got the power consumption think and the drain is about 220mA or so w/o doing anything
issit normal?
if you use xcpuscalar that could be reason... although you underclock your cpu, it has much bigger battery consumption so don't use it!
Don't keep your screen brightness on a high level.
I am running the OEM W6 ROM with the HTC Home Plug and my battery life is fine, and I am using 3G about 95% of the day.
Sometimes I need to charge it at night, sometimes I don't.
Original (supplied) battery can last for 18 to 20 hrs with less usage, meaning only call and sms. Have bought extended battery that can last for 2 days. Oh ya, my atom life have htc plugin and hhc, plus spb shell, pointui and touchcommander installed. I used clean WM6, download from O2 site, as I am uncomfortable with cooked rom.
Here's my today screen:
hmm.. can i found home plugin look like HTC ?? i want to download
win6 have high battery using or win 5 ?
not shure because I havn't had WM5 on my Prophet for 1 year. But the rom I'm running now Throttle III test rom witch is WM6.1 has gone from 100% to 70% in 24 hours (not heavy usage).
and also not all roms have the same apps inside so there is realy no way to tell if it's more heavy then wm5.
the answer would be yes and no to that question.
I have seen very conflicting reports about battery life when running Android. Some claim they have battery life as good as WinMo (1-2% drain/hr standby) and others claim anywhere from 5-8% drain in standby/hr.
I don't really think there is a difference between builds because I see claims of good and bad battery life for basically all builds.
To straighten this out I thought I would start a poll - please tell me what kind of standby drain/hr you are getting.

Need to add selection to see which build people are using also as well as battery life. That way we can have a better idea which build(s) offer best battery life.

I tried two Android ROMs a while ago - shubcraft (I think 1.2b) and Darkstone's Sense.
Shubcraft DEFINITELY had much lower consumption than darkstone's ROM, both in standby and in use.
It's just a shame the shubcraft ROM is so ugly.
With shub 1.3 and mattc's sense build I get less than 1% drain in standby. Shub 1.4 burned slightly over 1%. When I'm in standby everything is off except the phone radio. I also don't use any task killers.
Still not as good as winmo though. I only use 1% every 3 hours on standby in winmo.
Why do you consider shubcraft ugly? Because it doesn't have sense? I love the performance and look of the shubcraft cyanogen rom 1.4b. I get battery life very close to my WM energy rom.
I have a
TMOUS HD2 with 2.09 radio in NYC,
Chucky Android rom and Darkstone V2.1.
It drain >7%/hour for standby.
Can someone tell me how they get <1% per hour battery lose with which build, device and etc? I really like to try that out sometime.
Its a bit more then 1% per hour on shubcraft 1.4, but i use SetCpu.
shubcraft 1.4 @ 925mV r4 KERNEL, setcpu conservative minimum on standby, sdcard powermanagement tweaks, all tasks killed, VBN beta 5 Android Rom, 2.12.50_2 Radio ~ 3% / 5h

Solution for 5%/h drain standby problem
I had 5%/h battery drain in StandBy, but I believe I found the solution (it is working for me).
(a "small" copy of my another post)
Solution (need confimation), found somewhere on xda-forum
1. Battery calibration (not sure if this task was really necessery)
2. Charge battery to fulll (green led light expected)
- on WinMo till green led, turn off the phone (shutdown winmo)
- on phone turned off (till green led)
3. boot WinMo and Android
- then remove /data/system/batterystats.bin
Use this commands from Android Terminal (free).
su
rm /data/system/batterystats.bin
Click to collapse
3. Restart Android
- in that moment I had expected 1%/h drain already
- use battery till it become almost (~10%) empty (just use the phone as usualy).
Thats all.
Propably, after many android switches (new distribution tests) the battery stats was broken - collected partially in different Android instances (on memory card).
Then finally, after 1 week with 5%/h battery drain problem in standby I have 1%/h in standby again.
I think it is standard drain in haret.exe version.
I've seen many people saying they have poor battery life, see now with no changes in windows mobile or android such as using set cpu I get just over 1% per hour. I was asleep for nine hours with my phone in stand by mode with the radio on and I lost ten percent. In the same conditions with windows mobile I'd usually of lost about six percent so there is still quite a large difference. however I am using froyostone version one as my daily os and its manageable, listening to music and using 3g rather frequently and it lasts me the day.
So for me battery life isn't a major problem
Based on the broad range of battery drainage reports (at least ten percent in each category) the problem could be with battery calibration like in lemars post. I am going to try his recmmendation tonight and report back.

data on GSM during standby instead of 3G..
unless i need to surf net or use data intensive stuff, or else for facebook and twitter updates, i remain in GSM data as well as for push mail notifications..
my battery lost is less then 1% while on standby partly because i use setcpu for clock speed setting.. another reason is possibly due to my GSM signal on Max at -60dBm so i use less energy to lock on to the signal..

There are many free terminals like this http://www.androlib.com/android.application.jackpal-androidterm-zxnC.aspx.
Install from Market and on the Android prompt "#" put su<Enter>rm /data/system/batterystats.bin<Enter>exit<Enter>exit<Enter>.
There will be no message after rm command - if there is one, you missed something.
I can confirm that after more then one day of usage I still have ~1%/h in standby. So this solved my problems.
