With these custom roms, the MMS applications are already installed and set up. If I use a program to restore my mail after a hard boot, it deletes the MMS account from the Messaging options.
Since I have my text messages backed up from the beginning, I don't have an MMS account in the backup file.
Is there a way to manually add the MMS account? The configuration is still there, just no folder...

use something other than spb backup, or sync with exchange and use no backup.
I have a little trouble about MMS, too.
First of all, I have many problem before with cooked VZW ROM, so I decide I will try dcd 1.6.7 clean ROM. This ROM is great! (btw, thanks dcd!)
I can send the MMS messages because I manually set my config like:
Server name: Verizon Wireless
Gateway: 0.0.0.0
Port: 80
Server: http://mms.vtext.com/servlets/mms
Connect via: #777 Connection
Sending limit: 248k
WAP: WAP 2.0
But, because MMS package is built for Sprint,, it say me error: 1012 cannot provision Sprint vision data services when I tried to receive MMS message.
This is minor issue, so I'm no worry about it.
I think because someone mention MMS issue today, maybe I will mention mine too and see if anyone know the reason or "easy fix". Maybe its just I need OEM VZW MMS App, but I search it and no find it. So, please forgive me for bothering you all again... Thank you all for your help though.

Ahhh... but I want to have all of my text message history available to me on my device...
From what I understand, almost all of the backup programs just delete the current mail database and restore the backed up file

I recently update my 3125 to WM6 and it is working great. But I do have one issue that was previously working when I was using my old ROM. I have my email synced with my company's Exchange server. I am able to get email contacts, etc. But I used to be able to delete an email on my 3125 and then it would also delete it on the exchange server (removing it from Outlook). This is the way I prefer it. Is there a setting that I am missing? or is this a bug with this new ROM (I used the CLEAN version by the way). Any help would be appreciated.

Deleted items won't get deleted immediately. It does take some time, because deleting items isn't as urgent as receiving. That worked the same way in Mobile 5.
HTH
Thank you, I may have not been waiting long enough, I see if I do a Send/Receive it works immediately. What setting would I change to do it faster?
you can see if there is a setting like in the professional version of Windwos Mobile concernig the Emptying of deleted items, the options are imediately, on next send & receive and another one is manually....
BUT I am not sure it is present on the Windows Mobile Standard, (sorry I am too lazy to go downstairs and get my startrek power it on and check...so you have to look for it yourself
No, I don't see that setting, that's fine though, I'll just let it take it's time I guess.

I don't know and don't care. Because if I delete an item on my mobile, than I'm away from outlook. And than I don't care if the item flushes down right now or later. As long as it is gone all is fine.
Bye
It saves battery and data not to "push" the "read" or "deleted" updates immediately.
As you say, you can send/receive to force it - but it will also be updated next time it syncs anyway ie when you get another email.
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone has been able to get push/exchange email working via the HTC Mail app and google's exchange server.
No it is not working with my googlemail account either. I already tried hard and read a lot about it but I didn't get it working. It always hangs in a loop as soon as I start the mail sync after configuration.
Regs,
P.S.: I use MoDaCo 2.8 Rom

Thought as much, so I can't use the HTC Mail app or the unbuilt Gmail app (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=588547) for push mail
Shame about this, I've become pretty dependant on Gmail and google calendar.
I'm waiting to upgrade to the Hero.
At the moment I'm using m.google.com with Touchdown on a Magic, works fine. Hopefully I will be able to port the Touchdown licence to the Hero.
Yes, I have.
My settings are:
Email address: <email-addy>@gmail.com
Server address: m.google.com
Username: <email-addy>@gmail.com
Password: ********
This server requires an encrypted SSL connection: Y
In the Send&Receive menu:
Set download frequency: As items arrive
Hope this helps as it works fine for me.
regards,
Dave

What did you pick? I only tried to sync mail as I use a different email account for calendar/contacts etc and I use the Gmail app for that address.

Initially just mail, but I've tried all manner of configurations since.
Did a full nandbackup and have checked back with my original eris 2.1 which has my most current google contact list and my stored text messages.
When i check the last time i google sync'd my contacts to the exchange server (on original eris 2.1 setup) it says 9/29/10 (today) but when I flash my new kaosfroyo the contact list does not include any additions ive made since i purchased the phone.
All contacts were always saved in the google contact list in an effort to backup data on a server instead of just the phone.
Would the best bet be to wipe the ROM and flash again and try to let google re-sync? Or is this an issue I will need to take up with Verizon (for the longest time it would say "this service is temp unavailable" in the sync options)?
Also, is it possible to have my text messages imported to my new ROM? Nandbackup apparently would not do this-possibly another sync issue?
Btw if this question has been asked I apologize - tried to search through these forums quite a bit to no avail. Any help for a first poster would be much appreciated.
I would have thought if your contacts are "Google" contacts, re-syncing your Google account would bring them all back in.
As to importing SMS/MMS (i.e. text messages and those with pictures) into a freshly flashed ROM, yes you can import them. I do that all the time. I have Titanium Backup installed and before I flash a new ROM I backup SMS/MMS, browser bookmarks, and email account settings. Once you have TB installed, the item you will be looking for to backup for SMS/MMS is called something like "[SMS/MMS] Dialer Storage". In the old ROM, you open TB and backup this item. Flash the new ROM, install TB. Open TB, restore "Data Only" for Dialer Storage and then reboot your phone. Do not open messaging app before you reboot the phone. After the reboot, all your backed up SMS/MMS should be there. The same process works for me for browser bookmarks and email account settings. However, I am not sure but I think backing up the email account settings only works for those accounts which are configured through the stock mail app vice being configured via Menu --> Accounts & Sync.
A word about Titanium Backup: the paid version of the app is well worth the money.
Can you verify that your contacts were synced properly, perhaps going into Gmail and assuring that all your changes are there. If they aren't go back to 2.1, sync again then reflash KaosFroyo. If your changes are there then you could try re-flashing anyways (you may try to reboot and resync first). As far as text messages, I'm not aware of anyway to back them up directly, but they're are great apps that can backup all SMS to your gmail account. Hope this helps a little, good luck!
Just downloaded Titanium and backed up all sms (after a long struggle w/ the app not recognizing that I DID check the allow foreign apps setting)
Will reflash tonight and hope that Google kept everything in order
Thanks for the replies... ill let you know how it turns out tomorrow
Looks like my "sync contacts" with google never officially worked. When I went back to my original eris setup with my current contacts it reverted back to saying last sync 03/xx/10.
I let the phone attempt to sync for nearly 2 hours and still no data sent... I searched through the forums and came across a post saying to flash a new radio in order to establish the connection with google. Are there any better resolutions to this problem or is this the best option?
I am still working on getting titanium to backup my messages - everytime I create a backup with my original eris setup it gives me full backup (160 data apps including sms and mms) but when i flash my new rom it says all data and apps restored to OS yet I still don't have my old texts.

You could always use the contacts app on the phone to export a vcard of your contacts and import it via gmail. I had to do this with my brothers CDMA hero because it just absolutely would not sync with gmail, it would add contacts from gmail to the phone but not the other way around. After we exported as a vcard and imported into gmail manually it has brought down the contacts every time since.
Looked around and found a neat little trick that apparently resets google sync
I used the manage apps and cleared all data for my SMS/MMS dialer storage
Rebooted then reloaded my gmail account and the sync error vanished
f yes
Also downloaded SMS/MMS backup and restore - other than some duplicated messages I now have all my texts.
Yaaaay now I can enjoy my new ROM
Hello!
I have LA2 firmware on my phone, and until today I used the stock email app with no premium accoun. Today, I deleted the account, and after (to get push service) I've set up as a premium account. I have an email adress like this "[email protected]".
So...setting up the account I filled up those settings:
email adress: [email protected]
password: ******
I've checked "set as premium account (POP3/IMAP)"
After, I have chosen "POP3 account"
After, incoming mail server: mail.domain.ro; port: 110, unchecked the SSL
After, outgoing mail server: mail.domain.ro; port 25, unchecked the SSL.
But it doesen't get any email in inbox, and if I try to send, it doesen't get out of outbox.
What have I done wrong?
Thank you in advance for the help...
Maybe try to delete cache of email app and social hub app. And try again

Please, someone help me!!!
Thank you.
Please help! I really need push!
Thank you...
Is there a way to do this? I've tried TiBu to no avail. A bit of a noob when it comes to Android.
*edit* If it is possible to xfer texts from GB to ICS, is it also possible to merge sms/mms that are already on my gs3?
**edit** I tooled around with the AT&T Messages app for a bit and decided it wasn't for me. Is there a way to merge the sms from the AT&T Messages app with the stock messaging app with sms backup?

I've been using SMS Backup+ for quite a long time. I have it set to automatically backup up my SMS, MMS, and Call log every 2 hours to labeled folders in my Gmail account. You can also restore after flashing a new ROM (or getting a new phone), and it'll MERGE instead of overwrite.
New version of titanium backup pro has it now.

Good to know, the google play page for this app says it doesn't restore MMS.
"Automatically backup SMS, MMS and call log entries using a separate label in Gmail / Google Calendar. It is also possible to restore SMS and call log entries back to the phone (MMS not supported yet)."
So I've always stayed away from it.

True, it still doesn't restore MMS, but I almost never view old MMS pics on my phone. If you really need to, though, you can always view them in your gmail account instead.
Thanks for the replies fellas. I guess there is no straight solution to transfer sms and mms from GB to ICS.
I remember gosms had this really cool backup and restore feature from sd card back when i used to use it, maybe give that a shot? :good:
Zmore is the man. Worked like a charm. Hopefully SMS Backup + adds MMS support soon.
