Hi Mate,
Hope you don't mind the PM, but I just got my MDA Vario II replaced under warranty and have to start all over again with the customization.
I saw you had the same device and a great setup, and wondered if you could tell me the quickest/ best way to get WM6 and the ROM/Radio on mine please?
Any help would be great, thanks,
Andy

Hi!..
If you dont know some things, read WIKI, it helps (most of the time to get an answer)
First you upgrade your SPL

I dont got my warranty anymore because I made my phone simlock-free. *if you do this, READ that topic carefully!! *I just did it because I thought it was fun to mess arround with my phone..*and to tell you the truth..it was!
After that, you do this:
Ok..this is what I did, I installed this version of WM6 (for you notice; doing this is on your own risk.)
Then I upgraded my Radio to 1.41.00.10 (if you wanna know what that is, go Wiki)
Here you can find some great programs.
owyeah..here you can find the latest version of windows Live Messenger!
Hope you will learn something of all of this
cheers!

True Thq..I'd forget to note that
I have developed an issue with my ameo so it is going back for a warranty repair, anyway I flashed the official T-mobile 6 rom and that was fine but I still have OLIpro's Hard SPL, I have tried searching for how to downgrade, but all I found was mr Vanx's hermes guide.
bumpity bump
Over 120 views and not an answer, I have been searching hard, apparently I need an SSPL which will allow me to downgrade to any SPL that I want, the problem is I need the correct files for my device, and I am unable to yield results from the search.
Any help much appreciated, even if your just looking here to see how to do it for yourself, then say so! if enough people want to know how to do it, then the info might turn up somewhere.

What is wrong with your ameo?
Because in my experience you can just downgrade and t-mobile won't even look @ the SPL....
I sent my Vario and Vario II twice without downgrading my SPL....
not alot just a couple of niggling issues which I can get sorted under warranty,
TBH this is useful info though, we all should know how to downgrade !

Post #8 in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=315831
tells you how to do it...
so what your saying is that hard SPL does not exist for the athena, and that I would need to do it manually (no thanks) I guess I will take my chances with t-mobile !
if i remember correctly the unlock will load a sspl before the hardspl. find at what point its loaded and at that point flash a nbh with the stock nbh and u'll be able to send the device in for warrenty.

please please elaborate, do you mean the same olipro unlocker that I used to unlock it, so if I understand you your saying I should halt the unlock process at some point, and then switch the nbh for a standard one (ie the original tmobile wm 5 ) which will flash on the SPL for me, this method (if im right is similar to the hard spl method)
i would have to get oli to explain this exactly. i'll have him post here once he is around.

hi
i made the same expirience like hellejoep, i twice returned my (unlocked) ameo and the service seems not to care about it, i think there first job is to 'delete' everything and reset to factory settings before the try to fix any isue's. but anyhow it was good to know how to downgrade or at least let the bootscreen appear as the original one.
mad
I agree, would it be possible for OLI to do an SPL, that looked standard

u could have the info in bootloader read the old numbers but if they were to go into mtty they could still find out if the spl has been modded or not.

LOL - Oli's probably a very busy guy, ya think? I'm just happy he's doing the new AP unlocker (from what Pawel has posted, that is)... Oli, do you have a donation link?
On another note, has anyone actually been denied warranty service b/c of SPL version? I'm thinking about sending my 7501 in for a new housing and a minor touchscreen repair.

olipro though is right. its kind of a worthless thing to do. eather its stock or a full hardspl. if he did one that looked stock then htc still would look for patches and could tell if it has been modified or not. no sense. lets hope he comes bac and gives u all the guide to downgrade the spl to a stock one.

I currently have a Verizon 6800 running dcd 1.6.8 (1.40 radio) and would like to upgrade to 3.1.2. Is the new build stable? Would you recommend this upgrade?
Unfortunately all the guides I have found talk about upgrading from a stock rom. Are there any references for upgrading from a (really) older version? Can any offer any advice on how to upgrade my phone?
Thanks.
yea its great so far......
All i would do is relock your phone flash back to stock then flash with the new sprint rom but do not let custiomations run then put the 2.40 bootloader on cook up a new rom flash and your done. in the short ver. hope this helps you
Why tell him to go back to stock when he doesn't need to? He needs to unlock with 2.40-Olipro, then he can run either the Sprint/HTC update or the Alltel/HTC update, just making sure not to let either customizations run. Then flash dcd's rom on top and you'll be good to go. It's optional, but I recommend that after you flash dcd's rom, flash the 3.39.10 radio as it's a lot better than 3.35.04 (the radio you'll get if you run the Sprint update) or 3.37.20 (the radio you'll get if you run the Alltel update).
no no no, do not go back to stock.....ever. unless you are sending it back, then yea, you should go back to stock, but there are multiple issues that you could run into with going back to stock.
How come there isn't a guide for going from cooked rom to cooked rom? If there is one can someone point me in its direction or provide the steps here?
There are guides... For each of the ROMs it's rather explicit in the Wiki and each of the developer's threads upon what bootloader you need. That's all there is to it.
Thanks gcincotta.... Quick question tho. Should I run the titan relocker before i try to unlock with 2.40?
Also, I have copied down my ESN, MSID, but cannot find my MSN(???) referenced by the wiki. Is there any other information I will need to reauthenticate my phone after the upgrade?
Thanks for the quick help and all the responses...

No, there is no reason to relock the phone. The only reason you relock the phone is if you need to flash and boot stock roms and radios signed by your carrier.
I believe you mean your MDN (Mobile Directory Number) and it is located in EPST under NAM Settings. You should be good.
thx gcincotta... upgrade worked like a charm... much faster and gps is so nice.... great job to all.
wow i feel like a noob but havent flashed from the start in a while. I unlocked and upgraded to an older 6.1 ROM. Now i want to flash the upgraded radio and a newer ROM. Dont i have to re-lock before flashing the official sprint ROM for the radio then flash a kitchenROM?

I'm not sure, but when I did it, I did NOT relock the phone. I did have to unlock using 2.40Olipro, but i did not have to use the titan relocker.

I think I have to second that. I am pretty sure that whenever I have flashed a "stock" signed rom I have not ever had to relock the phone. I only would think about relocking if I was sending it back to verizon for whatever reason.

3.5 now wish i never upgraded should have stayed with 1.2
SPL 1.2. I am still on original HTC rom version 2.21.409.1 as thousands of others not upgraded yet
Using spl 3.5, now not much of worry, more cooks are providing.
Surely there must be at least one good reason for starting 3.5
using spl 1.2...
i havent upgraded it for several reasons...
spl1.2. My idea of the best ROM is one which does not even need all the momory already available in spl1.2. Don't want any bloatware in there. Just want it fast and lean, and bug free. I got the impression that it takes more skills to take things out of the stock ROM than to put more in more software, as removing the wrong thing would cause something to stop working.
I like to decide for myself which third party freeware to use. So, will not upgrade to spl3.5 in the future.
spl 3.5
I upgraded not knowing I would not be able to downgrade. I have no idea what other advantages or disadvantages there are to the spls.

I can echo this exactly, I was asked to test AP4.0 and seems im suck with it for now. However im happy using AP4.0 for now and there is the stock ROM to use.
am with spl 1.2 because i recently bought the 7501 and still testing various roms. Since I learnt that spl 3.5 is a one way street I have held off going there.
tovarish
I changed to 3.5 fully aware that it was a one way street, but hope that there may be a revertion at some point if needed. My Ameo is well out of warranty, and looking a bit battered, so no chance of needing to return it
I was willing to change in order to try the latest ROMs and don't regret it, but having now used the current Irus ROM, I'd have been happy to stay on 1.2 as it's pretty much perfect for my needs.
Spl 3.5 I'm not sure yet if this was the best decision
Spl. 3.5
I dont know. I kind of like it....but there are some serious drawbacks.
Downgrade from 3.5
Now that cmonex has provided a way to downgrade from spl 3.5 I am wondering whether I should do it?
Can anyone provide reasons for or against downgrading?
Thanks,
Yeah, Im curious to. I just flashed to Irus Vanilla spl 3.5.
If I was to downgrade to spl 1.2 then flash to Irus Vanilla spl 1.2.....what would I have. More program Mem.? More ROM? More Storage? Less?
Thanks

you would have to ask cmonex to be sure but last time i asked her about the downgrade tool she said that even if you downgrade back to spl 1.2 it does not repartition the device so you will never get back the memory no matter what.

I do believe that Comnex has to calrify this issue out coz if the memory will not be back as it was; so it does not make any sense to downgade again.
Comnex, would you kindly elaborate more on this issue and what are the benefits for the downgrade.
Cheers

This may not be entirely true at this point. I have downgraded and got all of memory and program storage back to the way it was prior to the upgrade. I am using the the new tool she put out.
I will be upgrading and downgrading as needed.

I'm very interested in your answer to irus' question. Can you confirm if you have 144.04 under total storage?
If yes, I might just try out spl3.5, knowing it is completely reversible now.
First, thank you to everyone here that is contributing and providing help to us New-B's
I have a the Fuze and I installed HardSPL to use NATF's v2.2 ROM (which is great btw). Unfortunately, I have to do a warranty exchange on it already. My question is, is the Stock SPL located in the first post of the HardSPL thread the same as the Fuze Stock SPL? (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=410150)
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help me figure this out.
Yes, the stock SPL is in that post. You'll also want to flash the stock ROM.
This is the link that have the stock ROMs:

If you just purchased it, more than likely you had this ROM on the phone when shipping:

And thanks for answering it!!!
just for insight, when I returned my Fuze, I only flashed the original ROM back on and left HardSPL. Corp. Store didn't even check bootloader and for all I know they have no idea about any of this stuff... if I were going the warranty route, I would def. go back to 100% stock.
Better to be safe than sorry, though.
to be accurate with things, that post won't have the exact stock spl for the fuze, cause the newer fuze should have the 1.95 stock spl. you can use the jump spl and load the 1.95 spl in. Many AT&T sales people will not know about what spl is on there, so could be possibly safe, but then again, there are some AT&T sales people on this forum.
Here is a reference of the difference.

What is or was the reason for the xchg.? Just asking because my call quality sucks and I'm thinking about swapping myself. How was the whole process and how long did you had the phone?
I swear this post should have gone somewhere else like in the hardspl thread :-D or flashing for newbs thread oh well, good luck with flashing stock and getting it all back to AT&T just remember flashing your SPL is the LAST step.
