im trying to compile a list of acronyms so that anyone reading this forum for the first time, or picking it up in the middle of a thread can understand most things. please post them under this and maybe eventually ill edit this post to include all the acronyms in alphabetical order to make it easier to use.

Have you asked a question in the Q/A section and never gotten a reply?
There may be a reason.
People hate helping people that don't take the time to help themselves.
Do these things before Asking a Question.
-Search
-Look for a similar thread with the same question, it may have been answered.
Tips to get help faster!
1)Post in the correct section
2)Do NOT name your thread "HELPPPPPPP BRICKKKK!!!!"
3)Include information in your thread about the question.
Further explained by numbers.
1) when you post in the correct section the people who are hoping to help a few others will see your thread if its in the theme/app section and your asking a question about bricking a phone, the only reply you'll get is; "gtfo" "learn to post in correct section"
2) Naming your thread something that's been said over a million times does not help.
Name it something that is short and explanatory. Something like "HELPPPPPPPPPPP BRICK!!!!" can be named "Soft-Bricked phone" don't include words like "help" or "PLEASE" in your title. It doesn't help. Learn to correctly put grammar in your titles and you will end up getting faster responses.
3) Adding more information will save you and the answerer tons of time.
Include things like what Rom/Version of Rom your using, how you came across the problem. What you were doing while this happened. This will help save the answerer by asking these questions back to you.
-If you want me to add anything to this, give me a PM. I will keep this updated.
A couple of quick items for select groups, if you might indulge me. Please.
#1 to XDA Developers Forum: Why is there NO "thread search" within a thread? With threads that are over 100 pages, searching for an otherwise easy-to-find answer becomes onerous quickly.
#2 to XDA Developers Forum: Along the same lines, why am I still "noobish" enough to NOT post in a huge developers thread even tho I have taken three or four days to read each post of that thread? I have read several +1000 response threads, and still can't locate an answer, nor can I post within the most likely place to find an answer: the developer's own thread. All while wading thru TONS of "does anyone know...?" queries and the matching "search-is-your-friend..." replies.
Sorry if that sounds like a rant. *I really don't mean it to.* XDA Developers Forum is an otherwise mind-bogglingly-huge archive of useful, obscure, hard-proven info. Thanks for providing a place for it. Really.
#3 to the Developers. I kiss your feet. You folks rock. And you don't need to be "THE Developer" to garner my respect. You are the guys that try a mod *and report back,* the guys that post helpful links, all the folks that try, and then deposit their results. YOU folks. Hats off to all of you. A user posted "XDA FTW" in his sig (you know who you are) and I'd like to second that. Thanks.

And now for the question: Why, oh why, can I not get adobe flash to work? I am using VeganGB with the provided kernel and OperaMini. I have tried flash from the market (10.2). I tried an earlier version (10.1.120.0) because I found threads inferring that it should be an earlier version. To no avail. Playerversion.com wants to know where my flashplayer is.
HALP!

I've been looking into this myself and what I think I'd like to do is grab the best bits of the various ROMs I've used. No disrespect to the guys who have been making some brilliant ROMs but I'd like to dabble with a deeper layer of customisation
Is there a "kitchen" programme that will allow me to do this for x10? Also how do I check a programmes compatibility with certain kernels and basebands? Do Android .apk files rely on external libraries or files like Windows do? If so is there a way I can check an .apk's dependencies?
Sorry for so many questions but this is new to me and would like to get a handle on where to start. Thanks in advance
you can start with posting in the right sections

If you really know what you're doing, download the zips for the ROMs you like to mix and start mixing!
To see apk depedencies, perhaps decompiling them with APK Manager and checking the AndroidManifest could give you a clue.
Don't really know that much, so perhaps someone else can give you
a better answer!
Cheers Immortal, I'm guessing simply copy and pasting between ROMs won't work that well. Will look into Android Manifest, appreciated
Many apologies riginal, whereabouts should I have been looking? I assumed that being as I was asking for information about ROM building, and leading into a discussion about baseband compatability that here would be a good place to ask. I don't want to treat this place as merely a repository of other peoples work, I was hoping to learn and contribute
Chef Central has no x10 specific sections or threads that have been updated anytime recently. The X10 Q&A section here garnered no answers, not even pithy ones like your one above that serves no constructive purpose and was merely written to build your post count
You even failed to direct me to a correct area. How am I ever to learn without the simplest direction? You didn't even report my post so the actual mods could move it, or PM me so I could delete and repost elsewhere. Back to moderation school for you, I'm confiscating your banstick as well. Put that e-peen away, seriously, lead, follow or get out of the way
Apologies to the real mods, but self aggrandaising posts such as his are one of the worst things about the internet, especially fora with public post counts and status bars

Hello developers and aspiring developers!
Seeing Chef Central is a pretty good resource for beginners and current developers to exchange info, it would be nice to have it a bit more organized.
I propose the following:
Tags
As you've probably seen around more places on XDA, TAGS are used to show us what the thread is about. Some threads here are already tagged, and it's that what we'd like to see.
Think about TAGS along the line of: [TUT], [Guide], [PORT], [Kernel], [Tool], [Kitchen], etc. Also, the [Q] tag should ALWAYS be used when a question is posted that couldn't be solved after taking the following steps...
Posting in threads instead of creating new ones
If you have a question about anything found in Chef Central, ask them in their respective threads. Don't open a new one just because no one answered your question in one day. Ask again, if you have to, in the same thread. Or, try the next best thing...
Searching
You should know that most of the stuff on XDA is searchable, even through Google's searchengine. I even recommend doing a search BEFORE asking a question. And if we keep this forum organized, searching would be pretty easy, now won't it? Speaking of organized...
Cleaning up
Obviously, this is something a moderator should do. In this particular case, we have several moderators that can do this: Some Recognized Developers are able to moderate this forum. To see who is able to do so, look at the bottom right of the Chef Central main forum.
Reporting also works wonders here; maintenance work is something we mods do too. Report a thread that needs to be cleaned/closed/stickied/etc. Make it a bit easier for us.
Device specific threads
All device specific questions should be posted in their respective forums. If there isn't any, post in general Android development.
So, with this, I want to start a "spring cleaning" if you will. Development is key here on XDA developers, and the place where most development is happening, it's a mess... Oh, the irony.
Oh and please, if you have any ideas or comments regarding this post, do not refrain from posting them here.
Let's start cleaning, shall we?
good post
I really hope this is a great source of info for me. So far everything that I've needed has been found here. So keep up the great work.
Thanks for this post. Totally agree and would like to add few things. We all want easy and quick access to the information and quick answers. But, before you ask, please think about what EXACTLY you want to ask, is your question make sense , or just like - "my ROM is not working, can you help" and then wait and see long long long thread of messages where people trying to understand - what ROM, how it failed, which device, what environment, symptoms of failure... etc.. Do not make a mess , keep this "home of knowledge" tidy.
Looks like OP forgot to mention that posting "Thanks" instead of just hitting thanks button is also a source of unnecessary clutter

Everything is with a clear explanation of the very open
Challenges. It was really informative. Your website is very helpful.
Thanks for sharing it publicly!
Coad base
This is one of the sets of more consistent coding standards I've seen. It 'clear that it is written by someone with a deep knowledge and passion for the great design of the system to improve its ability and maintainability of its code base efforts everyday.
Great.. Glad to have it. Thanks again for the share
Best Guidelines regarding CC cleaner, apart form this can i have any another cleaner for my Andorid Phone, that should be trust able as CC cleaner and good to use.
Is there a way to lock normal users out of a DEV thread? I ask this because it's becoming increasingly difficult to navigate a 100+ page thread, of which only about 4 pages actually contain ANYTHING related to the development of these ROMS, when you have to read through PAGES of spam. I know in another forum I frequent, they can setup private debates that users can READ, but not post in. If this is something that has already been discussed or whatnot, then please forgive me. I did a short search before hand and didn't really find anything, so I thought I would bring it up. Also, if I stepped on any toes, again I apologize, not intending this as such, just a simple curiosity I guess. I know I would probably do more here myself if I was able to limit a threads participants, so that I and the people testing (or even the people reading it) could find the info we were seeking much more easily.
Thanks for reading my half brained post, and again, if this is out of line or anything, please feel free to remove it with my sincere apologies.
