Hey all..
I have a few media players installed on my hero, but on the preinstalled one is there a way to get it to ignore a folder? I am currently learning spanish and have about 500 mp3's on the phone. It unfortunatly lists them all on the media player. I want to get it to ignore them so when i let it play my entire playlist on random it wont choose any of those.
is there a way? I have MixZing lite which does have an option to look at specific folders, but it wont intergrate with the lock screen (which is really very handy!). I tried adding the .nomedia onto the directory but to no avail....
I had the same problem, so far all I've done is hide the entire folder by stiking a '.' on the front of the folder e.g. hide the folder 'hidestuffinhere' by renaming it '.hidestuffinhere' using Astro or something.
The media player ignores everything under these folders:
\Media\Alarms
\Media\Ringtones
\Media\Notifications
However, if you move your spanish mp3s into these folders, they'll show up in alarms, ringtones or notifications.
sweet! that will solve my ringtones issue to then
just moved ringtones to the folder /media/ringtones but not showing up in the ringtone selection... should i do a reboot first?
Try a reboot,
If it doesn't work, backup your SD to your PC. Then format the SD card through the phone and recopy your data back.
That worked for me.
Cannot rename a folder starting with a "."

Yeah, I use Astro, and it works fine.
Yep just used Astro to change my download folder (where I download ringtones to on my sd card) anyways in the music player it used to show a load of unknown albums and list the weird ringtones I had downloaded.
Changed the folder through Astro .downloads and now the music player doesn't pick up those unwanted files.
The other alternative is:
Using notepad, create an empty file
save the file as .nomedia (do not save as .txt, but "All files")
add the file .nomedia to the folder you want to avoid showing media from
This works for video, photos and MP3. They can still be accessed using file explorer.
Hope that helps
Is there an app or widget that will show me what files are located in a folder? For example I have a folder called DOCUMENTS. I want a widget that will allow me to scroll through the files in the folder, pick a file and open it in one of the Office apps. I know I can go to a File Manager app and hit a few directories and get it that way I am but just looking for a short cut to a specific folder.
I am ONLY looking for a single folder that I have my project files in for work.
Here is an app that kind of does what I am looking for (searches the SDCARD for predefined files) but doesn't work on ICS as I tried it.
Data Folder

I solved my problem of putting a shortcut for a folder or file on the home screen.
The answer is here:
Shortcut for Folders-Files on Home Screen

I am a little surprised this functionality isn't built into Android already for shortcuts or in the more "popular" file explorer apps.
Hi! Can somebody please tell if it is possible to create a folder on the desktop of Galaxy Note where I could put my favorite files of different types - mp3s, docs, videos etc?
It is very simple to create a new desktop folder but I have no idea how to fill it with the files I want
Also, is it possible to create a desktop shortcut to a data folder (with music etc)? Thank you very much in advance for help.
The only way to fill a folder with files is:
Make a folder in your SD card with the files you want
Download Astro file manager
Long tap on home screen
Choose 'add shortcut'
Find astro shortcut
Choose the folder
So you have a shortcut of your folder, but you'll open it with astro....
Hope I helped you

Thank you very much! Actually I was hoping to do it without an extra app, but this is also a very good solution.
I couldn't find a clear answer for setting up UCCW so I'm hoping someone can explain exactly how the widgets created should be inside the UCCW directory...
some of the new clocks, battery bars, etc. I downloaded come with just a "UZIP" file, some come with a UZIP file & an image and some come with a whole directory that has weather images, fonts, etc. inside.
In the posts & threads I found previously that didn't really explain how to set up the new widgets, they just said "put everything inside the UCCWoutput folder"....
now, if one widget I download unzips to a folder with all that widgets' contents inside should I just put that folder inside the UCCWoutput folder?
or do the fonts go into the "fonts" folder on the SD card and everything else go into the UCCWoutput folder?
right now I have almost everything placed in the UCCWoutput folder...no folder for images or files or font or separate folders for separate widgets...everything is just kind of in there...and only a few of the widgets show up when I try to add one to my screens...I thought maybe that each widget should have it's own folder but from what I read in previous posts I found the explanations were pretty vague...."put so-and-so inside the UCCWoutput folder"....that doesn't explain anything really since some widgets have 1 file and some have a UZIP file, a font file and a bunch of images...
just trying to get this straight so I can use this correctly....and I searched for a good hour & a half without finding a somewhat clear explanation on how to handle all the images, fonts, etc...
all help is appreciated!
no one has any input on setting up one of these widgets?
just trying to figure out if each widget gets it's own folder or not because like 5 or 6 widgets in my directory have different names but they're all the same thumbnails...
the uccwOutput directory is fine but the other one is the one acting crazy...

Well.. Mine is kind of a mess too but I do know it helps to create a folder on the root of your sdcard ( or whatever internal/external/sdcard0/sdcard1 ) labeled fonts and place the fonts in there not the folder for the font. I do not have anything in my uccwoutput folder I have just been putting all my uzips under the regular uccw folder, opening uzips from there, then the folders are created in the same directory where the uzips are. hope this helps let me know if you need anything else
Hi,
Is this only me or can someone confirm that Messenger and Facebook do not display screenshots when I try send/post image. I see all other folders like WhatsApp etc. but apps do not see screenshot folder and I can't send them.
On Android 12 I have two screenshot folder. One old in the DCIM folder, and a new on the pictures folder.
After a update sometimes permission of folders gets messup.
To fix copy all yours files from misbehaving folder, to a new folder you just create, then delete the misbehaving folder, now take a screenshot the folder must be recreated by system automatic, then place all yours copy files on the new folder.
Then check if app can see it.
