I am about to upgrade my s200 and I don't know if the result will be good.
The pda will be faster and it will work better than now?
Is the upgrade worth?
You can always downgrade if you don't like it. Read the new upgrade guide here and unlock your device if you do want to upgrade see here
I personally find WM6 much faster, and nicer to use than WM5.
I think it is worth to upgrade.
But you can downgrade each time you want, like what l3v5y said.

Obsolutely. You'll never regret. Before I upgrade to MM6/WM6.1, I almost want to letgo my Dopod. But now, compare to "new LG mobile" (my friend has one!), I more appreciate my prophet now.
Good luck!

one thing LG is better. LG has 5 MP camera. But I love my Prophet more.
Cooked on My Style.
Absolutely, worth to do so. When it was WM5, it wasn't suport stero hand free/wireless player. Certainly, you can say, there is some driver we can install to it........but it will become slower, and at the same time, you can have a chance to try a new version of WM6 without letgo our current dopod.
It is deserved to do so.......

Hi everyone,
I've just had a word with O2 xda2 helpdesk and this is their concern towards WM2003SE!
"ANY UPGRADING ROM OTHER THAN THE ONE FROM MYXDA.COM WILL VOID THE WARRANTY OF YOUR XDA COMPLETELY!
This is no matter how new is your device (or just 1 day old only), once you flash it wif an unknown source rom, it will void your valuable local warranty of 1 year!!!
So I'm basically trapped in this situation.....(Just to remind those who intend to do the upgrade of WM2003SE). Nevertheless, you still can wait for the official launch of new rom from www.myxda.com in the 1st quarter of the year!
But if you cant stand the temptation like me, well this is the price to pay. From now on, any defect on the hardware, o2 will no longer give any warranty and i got to dig out my own pocket money.
Lets pray hard for nothing would happend to my device for 1 year.....

Well can't you revert back to the previous rom?!?!?! bcz it's impossible that they will know what you've did unless you told them!
If you can upgrade, you can always downgrade before sending in... don't let those helpdesk people stop you... they are nonsense and knows nothign about their product.
Cheers to these guru here that helps solve most of the issue except hardware parts faulty.
I have tired downgraded from 1.72 to 1.60 vice-versa without any issue. So why bother about them.
Frankly speaking, I would never call their pathetic helpdesk...
i think most of us here knows that but nice warning anyway
if you're not on 1.06 bootloader, you can just downgrade your ROM and send it in for servicing anyway, they can't tell.

Good try there. But by downgrading to 1.72WWE will also considered voiding the warranty. I tried to downgrade to 1.60Asia Rom but failed.
Unless someone can shed some light on how to downgrade it back to 1.60Asia Rom with 1.06 bootloader???
Anyway, the guy in o2 helpdesk said they know how to recognize whether the device is upgraded to any rom before. No way you can run away from them even though you don tell them....
Well, if you are so worried, you are welcome to pass me your device, I can exchange mine with you...

Nevertheless, cheers on u guys (who owns below 1.06 bootloader). Congratulations! Life is about sharing not to put anyone in trouble!
BTW, how does one check the bootloader anyway? Oops.. forgotten about the clauses that I should only exchange workable device.. heheheh

Good one  lol I'm very glad that we are able to use the Se finally.
DUH! With all due respect, If you wanted to keep your warranty, i doubt if youd be here in xda-dev in the first place!
ANY upgrade / change to your device other than supplied & approced by the vendor (ie. O2, T-Mobile, Qtek, CDL, Orange and what have you) WILL POSSIBLY VOID WARRANTY.
Of course they will have to have a good story if they withdraw warranty following a app install, but what about unhiding/unlocking the ExtROM and not to mention upgrading os and/or radio stacks.
If you do not want to have any risk: Stay with the original ROM
If you want to have a working device: Upgrade to your liking BUT KEEP A DOWNGRADE PACKAGE / IMAGE AT HAND IN CASE YOU NEED TO RELY ON WARRANTY.
(which does not rescue you if you end up with a dead device)
Whats so different about the bootloader 1.06 anyway. i've upgraded from an 1.66wwe ->1.72wwe--> 2.02WWE then back an 1.72wwe, does that mean that my device will keep a record of my misadventures?
thanks
Pinoy dont worry the here in us they dont know what is new in our device.. my brother upgraded his device to SE then after a day, the vibra is not working then he went to brightpoint to fix it with warranty but still its free. hehehe..
Salaryman, pare have you tried to downgrade back to the 1.66?
i've read that warning quite some time ago.. I guess all of us HERE in this forum knows that.. 8)
Again ...cheers to the knowned and unknown "knights of shining stylus" AKA xda gurus.. they really gave us "working" apps for our device than the "buggy" warranty'd gizmo you're holding the first time.
SALAMAT dudes!
When I had my first XDA I used to have continous crashes where the unit would not charge, switch on until I left the battery out of it overnight at which point if I put it back in it would hard reset itself after the back up battery was emptied.
Returned it within 3 weeks they gave me a new one as they connect fix them where I bought it.
New one had same problem but less frequent.
I started searching the forums and came here and started learning about my unit.
Since my origial 1.66 version I have had 2 versions of 1.72 with my own cooked ext rom. And now am running 2.06 with 1.18 radio and a cooked ext rom.
I've ripped out anything to do with O2 on my unit and it is the most stable it has ever been.
Remember what we have is a Windows operating system which on non phone based pda's works efficiently and faultless. It wasn't till all the phone operators who think they know about software started messing with their customised cabs to make it look like theirs that windows becomes unstable.
I would not be surprised if the 2.06 from mystery man was leaked on purpose, as this is a common thing for large corporations to do if they know there is a problem with previously released operating systems and the manufacturers are not intending to release an upgrade in order to encourage the sale of new hardware.
Remember when your Himalaya unit messes up most people go these Windows Mobile devices are rubbish as this is the name that is embedded on the casings. I'm sure that Microsoft as a corporation are fully aware of this and it is generally in their interest to release more stable ROM's through forums like this.
It's funny how quickly a stable English ROM surfaced once translation started on the Chinese one.
Assuming you are not going to throw your unit at a wall, drop it in the toilet, run over it etc etc then the warranty is not really required. Worse case scenario I report it lost/stolen to my household insurance provider and get a brand new one! At which time I will quite happily rip the rom again

Just to clarify slightly - I was working on the update I posted prior to the chinese ROM appearing. In fact the original image I used was months old and was not an installable package, but a memory dump. The mystery man update did appear after the Chinese ROM and was an installation package and therefore was probably posted by a person who thought 'well the chinese one is out officially, so what the heck' after a lot of pressure from pleading XDA II users on this forum

Sorry but no, coz i didn't know how to back up my rom when i first upgraded to 1.72WWE. but i believe its possible.
If it were possible to revert to the 1.66, then problem solved!
Well, after a heap of emails to ANZ (australian service agent for Dopod) i got the following response:
Dear Michael,
The 838pro ROM code is AKU2.X. I checked our schedule and there would not be any new ROM update in future. AKU 2.X supports WPA only. Unfortunately, it will not support WPA2. You might consider some of our other products like D810 with AKU 3.X
Thanks.
Kind regards,

So, basically release a full featured phone, then do nothing for it at all, and have it somewhat crippled.
Bad form on Dopods part, and if no other manufacturer updates theres, well, will be the last time i get a HTC PDA. Considering my Mio A701 is currently running a version of crossbow on it, or a choice of an AKU3.5 ROM as well...
Anyway, thought i'd share for those wth dopods that theres no updates coming, at all
omg is this going to be the same with all of the hermes versions? i'm hoping not or my jasjam is never gonna see the light of AKU3.xx or Crossbow.

The crossbow version and the aku3.x version for the Mio A701 are also not official... the comunity has made the rom updates!!
I hope dat "Pof" or others create some custom upgrades voor the hermes!
I like my hermes much more then the teribble mio A701!! (what a buggy phone with worse phone sound!!)
The Mio is actually a very good phone. Look at reviews all over the net at rspected places, and it scores even, or higher than the Hermes based phones.
However, its a "diffent" needs pda, and not for everyone, the same as the hermes isnt fo everyone. having both, i assure you they cater for very different needs, and are both excellent.

I have the same feeling, too. There is no reason the spend money on HTC PDA again if there is not even a minor update after the release date. Given that we no longer can modify/cook our own ROM on HTC PDA due to the certificate protection, owning an HTC PDA is not that worth anymore...

Fun has been increased with this, now we have to think of a way to circumvent signature checking... and be sure we'll do it
pof, honestly in your opinion, what the chances you think of either yourself or another cracking it relatively soonish??
Probably an isolated incedent, but interesting just the same -- In Taiwan, where the TyTN made it's world debut 03-July as the CHT9000, the TyTN has been pulled and is no longer available for purchase.
Dopod has a less than ideal record of supporting Chinese language devices in Taiwan (they're made here, so go figure). I think they tried, failed, and so decided to cut their losses. I tried the Chinese OS for a few days and my impression was it was clunky as compared to the English language ROM. Maybe that's also why it never made it into the China market as a native Chinese language OS.
So, I suspect the TyTN will live on as the Cingular 8525, dopod 838pro, or HTC TyTN... but the CHT9000 is no more..
Me... I'm very happy with my CHT9000... but, running the v1.35ROM of course... cheers.
@mxlaser: see my comment here regarding this.
Thanks pof.
Ever helpful as usual.
Shame theres hesitation on the commnity banding together on this on. 6 months is a long time to worry about updates as WM6/crossbow devices will be here by then...
Hope it goes well... Wish i knew more about it all to help in the end...
I've got an Orange M3100 and i'm thinking of upgrading it to WM6 but I want to ask a question.
Is it really worth it?
Please answer truthfully, those of you that have done it what are the real pro's of do it.
If you can follow directions in the Wiki and are not totally retarded you will be fine upgrading to WM 6. I'm using the Cingular build here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=308378
It works flawlessly. I haven' thad any issue and battery life has been excellent.
Do you need WM6? Nope.
Is it nice? Yes
Reason enough for me are the bug fixes over WM5 and HTM email support in Poutlook. That alone is enough of a reason for me.
Enjoy.
Put me down as a "YES"
Although I agree that WM6 isn't something worth upgrading for on it's own, I have found something that is. On my original WM5 T-Mobile ROM I was resetting the phone at least once a day because of freezes. Since the second generation WM6 ROM here, I've only ever had one freeze - and that was when I was being frankly stupid with about 20 installs in one go!
Is it worth upgrading for WM6? Maybe
Is it worth upgrading to a rock solid, reliable phone? Definitely!
another pointless thread... guys why dont you read the wiki??? or use the search function...
and if you dont like WM6 you can always revert back... jesus mate... try something for yourself for once...
For the shear use of a "phone", upgrading isn't necessary or even worth it...if ya just care about using the phone for calling WM5 is fine. However, if you're like me and want to tweak your phone, then there's a ton of pros for upgrading to WM6. Speed for one, more memory, better tweaks than the stock ROM, and a more stable OS IMHO. I like being apart of a small, but growing percentage of people that take the risk to have the latest ROM released and different than your average Joe with the same phone. People that just make and take calls are boring! Those of us that can turn a cam flash into a flashlight, or integrate a Treo born thread app on a WM6 platform like to be different! I like the risk when flashing, but then again I jumped outta planes and fought in Iraq twice, so my mentality is different than "average".
Good luck in your decision! -fin

I don't know if its possible or not but Have you checked with Pocket PC Techs.Thats what they do so if it can be done they should be able to tell you. If it can be done I think they'll even sell you a kit to do it with.
Cool!
Does somebody can try this and post info here!?
thats the only thing missing from the hermes is twice the ram, i miss that in my special edition magician.
Not enough if you could upgerade the ram... Because than you need a special rom too, to use without problems...

Here is a step by step.
http://www.htcwiki.com/page/Hacking+HTC+Mogul?t=anon
Print it, read it, read it, read it, gather up what you need, read it.
Then go for it.
Moguls came with WM5?
The Sprint Mogul came with wm6 when it was launched, but Sprint was also the last carrier to get the Titan.
My TELUS P4000 shipped with wm5 nearly six months before the Sprint Mogul release.
To the original poster: Do yourself a favor and get a good, solid wm6.1 ROM. Going from wm5 > wm6.5 is a bit of a heavy leap. Not only is wm6.5 not quite mature, it has higher RAM requirements which [according to MS] should be 128 megs.
I'm sure that requirement will eventually find its face busted in by xda-devs, but for the moment you could save yourself alot of disappointment by choosing wm6.1.
TPlane has made a pretty stable 6.5. Although they ask for more RAM in te requirements, it seems to be running no more than 6.1.
As for WM5 poster, perhaps it may be time to consider upgrading the hardware. If you have the hardware upgrade credits.
