Atom life ROM for Emulating - iPAQ rw6828, XDA Atom ROM Development

Hi
Is there a way to get an Atom life ROM working in the Mobile Devices Emulator of MS? I think they need something that ends with *.bin or *.xgi or something like this. At least I can't run the al1.dio file in this enviroment.
Would like to have to to test software and that I can use my Atom life on my Notebook (got some Software which will not run an XP just Win Mobile).
Thanks

Rom & Radio Upgrading On Intel Mac

I am a fully signed up Mac owner but have no intension of going down the iPhone route as the Hermes does everything (and more) that I want and continues to be ever adaptable and user friendly - thanks to the great chefs, past and present who frequent this forum
Until now, I had access to a PC to flash the various offerings of the good cooks but all this has changed! I have tried to flash ROMs using an Intel Mac running XP but for whatever reason the .exe program will not run.
Does anyone know why this is and more importantly, what I can do to get the .exe ROM installer program to run on WinXP/Mac?
Thanks

You may need to install the .net framework. Works fine on XP in bootcamp and through Parallels on my Mac-tel.
Yes, you will need the .NET framewotk version 2.0 or higher.
Thanks for your help with issue - there's always an answer available from the forum.
Thanx

I just extract the .exe file using StuffIt Expander and flash the .IMG file using the SD card method (drag and drop download to device via Missing Sync). Works much faster than PC-based flashing.

@@Vista and upgrade [email protected]@

hello to all.....
i know that some time ago the firmware upgrade on a Windows Mobile phone was available only on Windows XP and ActiveSync.
Now that Windows Vista are almost a year alive........activesync died and Windows Mobile Devive Center took its place.
i correctly synchronize my Atom Exec via USB and the firmware upgrade procedure starts.......
after a while the bar isnt loaded at all and an emergency window tells me that
''no download target found''
any ideas what the problem is?
I just screwed my ipaq rw6828 for trying upgrading to wm6 with vista 32bit, upgrade run 40% and stop for a long long time, i disconnect it, unload the battery and whalla! my ipaq is brick, now i am trying to revive it
You should use a program that create a virtual machine, install winXP on that virtual machine, and upgrade from it, as we don't have an upgrade program that can run on win vista.

use virtual Pc or VMWare..its' very easy to setup a virtual machine. it's like to intall a new computer, but you don't need a new hardware ;-)
i'm just wondering how they edit the roms so you'Re able to flash it using vista

It has nothing to do with the ROM itself, but with the version of the RUU. HTC simply didn't made a VistaRUU for the (older) Prophet-model. The (newer) Trinity does have a VistaRUU, that's why there are two versions. Unfortunally the RUU's are model-specific, so we can't exchange them (tried it already ofcourse )
So, some genius has to modify a VistaRUU for use with the Prophet (or the other way around). BTW I do have one RUU that does work with Vista, but it isn't able to read any other nk.nbf then the one it came with.
ahhh, now i get it .. thanks for the explanation
now i'm looking for a genius he gets it to work
had the same problem, using vmware now & no problem now!

Virtual Pc don't emulate the USB connection.
I myself did create a second bootpartition on my PC with XP. So, now when I startup, I can choose between my main OS (Vista) or the second one (XP).
It is called dualboot. It is a bit of a hassle to set up if Vista is already installed, but the advantage is that XP runs native, without any emulation.
Here it is described very punctual: http://www.anichillus.net/index.php?PHPSESSID=rho4r4287rcptee39sv57rm0f3&topic=26.msg43#msg43

I have ruined my new VISTA notebook, cos I tried to make dualboot OS. Now it goes to Service Center.. Eventhough I just buy for 3 days..
And it won't cover buy warranty..****..
Better to run everything under XP actually.
Make "search" button your best friend!!
I'm using Vista ultimate edition and never had a problem upgrading my JAMin using old or new method! I even made HardSPL with vista just replace and edit .bat file! (why should i install another windows using virtual machine!!!)
This is the one...
Vista upgrade guide should be followed (once) to be able to use the vista_RUU
Guide vailable here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?p=1600161
or here (same as above):
http://mahmood1.com/upgrade_pocket_pc_ruu_in_vista.aspx
IF you only wants The vista-RUU:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=60781&d=1197014861
All what you have to do is to replace the .nbf file and upgrade!
Note: I have been using this since long time and never had problem upgrading my prophet (G3) in windows vista in any matter!
sorry to hear that man... hopefully next time it's ok
i use VMware Workstation, this program has full usb support and i have had no problems with it. just make sure you install the vmtools and dont plug in your phone until you have loaded XP fully and have it full screen.
this i found is the best way for things to happen (updates etc). also usful for bios updates since VISTA doesn't work fully yet

Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you. As I said, it gave me a hassle too, but nothing I couldn't fix with the help of the instructions.

You are right, this is a way to get things going with Vista. The downgrade of the USB drivers makes it possible to flash "traditional", I'm doing that succesfully from April last year. But to use a RUU, is a different cup of tea.
The VistaRUU you use is for G3 only.... you've guessed, my device is G4....

Rom Upgrade on virtual machine?

Hi all,
I am running on MacOSX and I have a prophet.
Unfortunately I input a Kayser rom and now my Prophet does not recognize any touch gestures.
Is it risky to upgrade through a virtual machine?
Thanks for your reply or comments.
hi
no its not risky... i also did it on windows 7... i just install xp on my vm from microsoft... and then upgrad my prophet under xp... and its working fine...
greeze..
ps: r u using a mac or just install a mac on a normal pc... if you install it on a pc, can you tell me how to do it?? i want to try it on my old notebook.. thx...
thanks!
However I am wondering if your reply is good to me...
Your both system are windows...Do you think it changes anything if I am on Mac and open a virtual machine...
I will give it a try, post the result in half an hour...(I hope!)
i couldn't upgrade using vista initially, but after using vmware & installing win xp, it all went ok. done this a lot of time with no problem.
only thing is when you are doing in vm, make sure you are in the vm window while it is upgrading, if you change window back to your osx, the usb connection might be lost & screw the upgrade

[Q] Is it possible ?

Hi all,
I am wondering if it it would be possible with a kind of light virtualization tool, to run some very simple Windows applications (a .exe file with no installation required, no registry, no .dll, etc.) within Android.
Of course it would'nt be to use it on a smartphone but on a tablet.
Does it already exist ?
Use Bosch (I think that's what it's called) and install windows 95/xp.

There are emulators like Bochs and DosBox that will emulate an x86 system. But its going to be pretty slow feeling. ARM and x86 use different instruction sets so everything has to basically be translated between the two which slows things down. If its a modern or big program you'll be better off running through a remote desktop program.
Thanks Guys,
In fact it is only simple .exe files which don't need powerful calculations.
But you mean that it will need to install a full Window OS ?
I'll have a look to these two softwares you mentionned.

Yeah, but you might be able to use a slimmed down version of the OS though.

Yes you would need to install a emulated OS which is probably limited to Windows 9x or older. I don't think there is anything out there that can emulate the newer non DOS based versions of Windows like 2000, XP, etc.
WINE works without installing an OS since its x86 on x86. Makes you wonder if it would be possible to build WINE for Android x86.
Well then, these solutions are too heavy for what I want to do.
I don't want to emulate a full OS.
Maybe later, if there are more and more needs like mine, some developpers (or Google itself) will create such a too to run some simple Windows apps on Android without installing Windows...
