Upgrading to wm6, any needs for the original ROM ? - 8525, TyTN, MDA Vario II, JasJam Software Upgradin

Hi
I Just purchased sp locked JASJAM with WM5
I'd like to upgrade to WM6.1
I've read allot at the forum, (also got disappointed about the GPS thread)
I've learned allot, and I Thank you all for that.
Before I upgrade I Have few questions, Which I didn't found answers so far.
Since It is still under warranty, how can I Backup the original Radio, Rom, Etc..
So in case of warranty issue, I"ll be able to restore to the original provided package ?
Will I Be able to sp lock it again ?
Does anyone need my original ROM provided by Cellcom (ISRAEL)?
ROM VERSION: 1.31.305.2
ROM DATE: 09/08/06 (sounds old to me)
Radio Version: 1.21.31.10
Protocol Version: 32.53.720.01H
ExtROM Version: 1.31.305.243
Thank you all for that great forum
Oren

1). check the wiki for your original rom and radio rom. good to have a copy of these on your computer in case you need to revert back(your rom may have been updated by your carrier, I'd contact them and see).
2). Check you IPL and SPL version by going into bootloder screen (you can find out how by a quick search) then look on the wiki for how to downgrade SPL to stock SPL. download all versions of Spl you need as I find it convenient to have this stuff if something goes wrong and you cant get from the site.
3). Make sure you unlock & Hard SPL you hermes before ANYTHING else... Putting Hard SPL on DOESN'T mean it WON'T brick, it just means its EASIER to unbrick if something does, and probably will if you flash a lot, goes wrong...
May I suggest you Hard SPl your phone then use the sd card method (my personal favourite method) to flash as there is less chance of ANYTHING going wrong as long as it has more than 50% battery power...
Happy Flashing and I hope not to see any posts about needing help unbricking.... Cheers

how to enable KITL ?
I have keep reading the tutorials and troubleshoot (how to unbrick) ...
I Have noticed that I dont have KITL enable (or available), which very important for recovery.
I Have:
SPL: 1.06
IPL: 1.01
Kinda old I Think...
is KITL a software in bootloader ?
Will I Be able to enable KITL if upgrading to the latest SPL ?
(Or in other words, How can I Enable KITL to minimize risks?)

Flash Hard SPL after unlocking the phone. This makes your phone able to flash ANY HERMES rom.... This WONT STOP BRICKING BUT WILL MAKE IT EASIER TO RECOVER IF (AND WHEN) THINGS GO WRONG...It is not a guarantee BUT it is a safety net that helps out. Cheers...

Need answer to understand few basic questions

I have read a lot on these forum but still can't understand few basic things.
I have upgraded my cingular 8525 with black dymond 3.5
Currently I have IPL 1.04 / SPL 2.10 Olipro / Radio Version 1.40.30.00
I followed the guide and installed SPL 2.10 Olipro before ugrading to prevent it from getting brick device...SPL 2.10 bypasses CID... corrupt sectors in ROM will not cause problem as it bypasses CID.. Can somebody explain these things in little detail please.
What exacltly SPL 2.10 does?
If some thing goes wrong while flashing - will I be able to install original cingular - att ROM?
Is SPL 2.10 permenantly install on device or it will be removed by ATT rom?
What is CID and What is super CID?
What other precautions I need to take besides this to prevent my phone from becoming brick device?
Again - I have no plan to go back to ATT rom, this is only if something terribly goes wrong.
GG
You've definitely done your reading and more or less have it right.
CID is an area of the radio bootloader that primarily "locks" your phone to a particular carrier. If you bollocks a radio flash and it becomes corrupt, you've "bricked" your device and it can be rather difficult to recover.
Hard-SPL is a brilliantly patched version of the SPL by Mr. Olipro that makes your device appear as SuperCID without having actually updated the "real" CID (which one used to have to do). SuperCID will allow you to flash any ROM to your device (not just the ones for your carrier) and enables some otherwise blocked commands, thereby giving you room to maneuver if you happen to "brick".
Hard-SPL also has a patched 'task 2a' command that will recover bad blocks (provided they aren't physical bad blocks from the factory) that can develop on your device as a result of flashing.
By design Hard-SPL prevents itself from being overwritten, but it can be done if you need to send your phone in for warranty, etc. There's a guide for that and several threads, too.
You've done about as much as you can to protect your Hermes. Good job!
Thanks vp3G for your explanation. Much appriciated.

Thanks to Walshieau, Todd_jg and Olipro for helping me out with this.
This guide will take you through downgrading the Bootloader (SPL) on your Hermes device
This guide assumes you already have flashed ROMs and Other components and you are familiar with the process.
NOTE: By downgrading your SPL version your device is more vulnerable to being permenantly bricked if a flash goes wrong, by following this guide through YOU accept responsibility for any problems faced due to this operation. As with other downgrade guides this is NOT intended as a guide for claiming the warranty of the device having flashed components which are not authorised by the manufacturer or carrier.
The downgrade will take the following steps, since HardSPL does not allow itself to be downgraded directly, nor does SSPL allow versions lower than 1.09 to be flashed.
The first step is to dowgrade to SPLversion 1.10.oli. Firstly download this archive and extract the files to a temporary folder, connect your device up via the USB port and allow it to connect to activesync. Run "RUUWrapper.exe" which will fire up the RUU program:
Select 'Force SSPL' and continue the flashing process as usual.
Allow the flashing process to take place and your device will reboot.
Now check the SPL has been changed by entering bootloader mode, press and hold the side ok and power buttons then insert the stylus into the hole in the bottom of the device. Your SPL version should now read "1.10.oli".
The next step is to download the SPL you wish to finally downgrade to:
SPL 1.04 (includes IPL 1.00)
SPL 1.06 (includes IPL 1.01)
Again extract the contents to a temporary folder and connect your device to activesync via USB. Run "RUUWrapper" in this new folder.
Select the RED OPTION, and TICK THE BOX.
Then flash as normal.
This will flash the final SPL version onto your device.
Verify your SPL version once this has completed by allowing the device to boot into windows Mobile and entering the bootloader as before.

Shouldn't need to access OS. You should be able to do it by putting it in BL mode... THEN plug it into the usb. Then start the updater.
Its 2.30.Olipro I need to downgrade from, and you cant overwrite olipro SPL's without using SSPL by des from inside the OS, I'm trying to find another way

2.3 is similar to 2.1.
As MrVanx's guide points out, the key is to get from 2.1 down to Oli 1.1. That will work. His guide works - guarantee it.

Thanks for the help, but MrVanx's guide uses SSPL by des (launched from inside the OS where I can't get to) to overwrite the 2.10.Olipro to get back to 1.10.Olipro, so that method wont work for me either

Oh interesting. A nuance I hadn't picked up on. So, when using the Force using SSPL" option in the flashing utility, you must be able to access the Phone OS? That surprises me, I thought that the RUU utility would put it on the phone even in BL mode and execute it? Hmm... strange. I guess if it is an exe, it needs the OS to run, though. Sort of makes sense. Sorry about the misdirection.

Hi,
I'm trying to downgrade to the original SPL (I'm trying to get hold of 2.03 but can't seem to find it), so am using 1.06. I've been able to downgrade to Oli1.10 from Oli2.10, but it won't go back to 1.06 from there, after the RUU says successfully completed the SPL is still the same.
Any ideas?
Cheers
downgrade phone for rogers warranty
Hi Guys,
I need to downgrade my phone as well for warranty purposes. Unfortunately Mrvanx's guide is offline at present. Can any one of you give little further detail about what I need to get back to orginal rom/radio/spl and bootloader. Or in shor to be able to send it back for warranty. I do have a new Rogers phone if that can be of any help.
It is from Rogers and currently my boot loader screen says following:
HERM200
IPL-1.04
HERM200
SPL-2.10.Olipro
Under Device Information:
ROM version: FARIA.R-32
ROM date: 11/06/07
Radio version 1.54.07.00
Protocol Version 32.86u.7020.23H
ExtROM version: BIGSTORAGE
My replacement Rogers Phone has following:
HERM200
IPL-1.01
HERM200
SPL-1.11
Under Device Information:
ROM version: 1.34.631.14
ROM date: 04/17/07
Radio version 1.42.00.00
Protocol Version 32.75.7020.18H
Can anyone please tell me if it is even possible to do this downgrade.
Thanks
B.
why dont you just brick the phone if you are worried about them complaining over the boot loader version. If you cant access the phone i doubt they will be able (or even be bothered) to
Could you please let me know what you did? Did you downgrade To the original Rogers Radio and SPL ? Do you by any chance have all the original Rogers files (WM5, SPL, Radio,...)?
I am with Rogers too and just unlocked SIM (not CID) and installed WM6 (official HTC)
I am wondering how I could lock SIM again if I need to return the phone for Rogers warranty? or unlocking SIM does NOT void the Rogers warranty?
Thanks
Downgrade to SPL 1.11
Hi is anyone able to figure out how to downgrade from SPL 2.10 Olipro to SPL 1.11? I have tried Mr Vanx guide but at the end of the process, I get Error 260. Not sure if I am doing anything wrong.
Do I have to downgrade to SPL1.10 Olipro, before I downgrade to SPL 1.11?
Thanks
I am having some issues downgrading back to an original SPL. I've searched throughout the site and have found a lot of conflicting advice, although this thread seems to be the most relevant.
I started out the process with SPL: 2.10.Olipro
I downgraded to 1.10.oli.
This process was successful in that the bootloader screen now says that the SPL version is 1.10.oli.
Now, when I try to flash the OEM version of SPL, the phone asks the following question:
You would like to run jumpspl.exe
If I say yes, the screen goes gray and says load... but I end up with a 260 error.
I have tried turning off the usb connection in the active sync and starting from the bootloader as mentioned here, but that just ends up giving me a 264 error.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Cheers,
~Hat

Okay, Im back to 1.10oli, but how do I know if I need to go back to SPL 1.04 (includes IPL 1.00) or SPL 1.06 (includes IPL 1.01)?
OK people, please tell me you have looked at the updated guide right??
http://www.mrvanx.org/thg/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=19&Itemid=27
Yes, but the choices are,
1.04
1.06
1.09
1.11
2.03
and I don't know how to tell which one is stock for my phone. I assume I need 1.04 since my bootloader says IPL-1.00 but I'm not sure because I know that used to say IPL-1.04, and since it appears that that can change for some reason, I want to make sure I get this right so I can get this waranteed. Im going to sell it on ebay and get the new HTC Fuze as soon as AT&T releases it.

FUNDAMENTAL requirement before trying a WM6 upgrade

I have been reading all across the forums how to CID unlock, upgrade etc. However, I am not able to find the ways to do seeminly essential homework before trying to upgrade. These for me are:-
* Finding a way to completely backup all the stuff from original tytn. Like ROM, SPL, IPL, Radio, CIDlock etc. I feel that this is important as if ever I feel like going to the tried old one I should be able to and to preserve the warranty also. Also, the method to roll back if needed. This should be covering re CID locking the phone etc.
It makes sense to create a way to bring the phone to its completlely original shape if we need it
Thanks
Alber

You do not need to back up your spl, ipl, etc. because if you need to roll back you can just reflash them on, and they can be found around here and in the wiki.
You cannot un-CIDunlock, but if you use hardspl v7 it will "trick" your phone into thinking it is (when in reality it isnt) so that you do not have to actually unlock it. If you ever need to send it in you can just flash the old spl over it.

HardSPL does not CID unlock. pof's Free Unlocker (a sticky thread) does the SIM and CID unlocking. HardSPL is a new set of bootloaders allowing upgrade utilities to access and read/write to the phone. The most important aspect of this (besides bypassing the CID check) is the security - it has some overwrite protection built in to prevent you from accidentally corrupting the bootloader area, rendering your phone a brick. HardSPL is a safety measure.
If you check THE WIKI here on xda for the Hermes, you will find some stuff on extracting. It is most probable that it will be FAR easier to find new versions of everything you have, rather than trying to back up and restore. The wiki contains MANY shipped ROMs to allow you to restore back to basically the original condition. LOOK HERE for MW5 shipped ROMs and LOOK HERE for WM6 shipped ROMs.

what about the radio upgrade
the htc108 thing
its confusing
on pof's sticky it says to downgrade the radio if u have the htc 108..
but on the radio upgrade sticky, it says u can upgrade any phone[hermes] using custom ruu..

Thanks a lot for the reply, I appreciate the time you spent in expaining this to me and providing these links.
I was wondering if HARDSPL is like shelltool where it will only allow upgrade or flashing of OS part. So, once I use the HARDSPL and flash say HTC official WM6 release or Dopod WM6, will I be ableto to get the bundled radio and SPL and IPL upgrades from these ROMS? and if yes then will HARDSPL get replaced by these SPLs and IPLs built into the ROMS? One more thing, will an upgrade like that can brick the phone as if I rum the official ROM it will try to upgrade the SPL and IPL (I am not sure).
What is the preferred way of upgrading ? unlocking CID by the tool or HARDSPL ?
I have read somewhere that lockwiz tool used for Wizard can save CID also and some tool and put it back also but I dont know how and if the same tool can do it for hermes?
Regards,
Alber

Most cooked roms are os only, but a few have a radio, etc. included. If its os only, flashing will only change the os. You can separately flash radio.
Hardspl is the best because its reversible. Well thats not the best word to describe it....id say because its not permanent. But u know what i mean

Mcorrie1121 is right. I will add a couple of things.
1. HardSPL is not *necessary* for flashing anything, it only makes it safer and allows you to flash ROMs with CIDs that do not match your device without CID unlocking. Your ROM is basically a few parts - OS, Radio, IPL, SPL, ExtROM, MainSplash and SubSplash. The HardSPL will replace the SPL only. Most non-carrier ROM releases are OS only. Most carrier ROMs (as you pointed out) have ALL of these things. As Mcorrie1121 pointed out, you can easily find a radio - check the wiki, search, etc.
2. Once you have upgraded to a cooked ROM (and HardSPL), you will still be able to upgrade to a Shipped Official ROM. You may need to "unpack" it and use the CustomRUU instead of the shipped updater. That is OK though.
3. HardSPL will not allow overwriting of the IPL/SPL except by another HardSPL (see mrvanx.org downgrade guides). You will not have a problem. It will keep your bootloader zone safe.
4. I don't think there is a preferred way. Some people unlock CID, others do not. There is no reason to *not* unlock it, unless you plan to send it back - and I have never heard of someone getting service rejected for this reason. Wring ROM, yes. CID unlocked, no. That said, maybe try without CID unlocking first and then if you find you need to do it for some reason, then do it. You really do not have to do it, since the Custom Updater bypasses the CID check anyway.
5. Regarding the 0108 Radio BL issue, don't worry much about that - it is an old problem. Just don't go below whatever version you have now.

Dear, please help me with one thing-I am terribly confused about the procedure to upgrade my JASJAM to WM6. I understand that one way is to CIS unlock it and install on it the official and dopod releases of WM6. I wanted to know how can I do the same using the HARDspl. I know that I can install the HARDSPL but after that what ??? Can I then run the offcial RUU from HTC or Dopod or I am supposed to do it some other way as I am afraid that it may contain the SPL and IPL and can break by phone OR I have to use some customRUU (I dont know) OR I am supposed to extract the OS from these official releases (I dont know how) OR ..
Can you please clear these confusion??
I have:-
* I-Mate JASJAM, CID locked i suppose as when I run official HTC or dopod it says this update utility is not for this
*I really wanted to save my devices complete state and a way to revert it to the way it was like SPL, IPL, OS, Radio, CID lock etc.
PLS pls help

Alber

Regards,
Alber

There are upgrade guides there and guides to put it back the way it was (OS, Radio, IPL, SPL, MainSplash and SubSplash) - it is all covered.
The upgrade guides will get you through the upgrade process. The only thing you need to do after that to use an official upgrade is to unrar (using winrar or something) the executable file and take the nbh and us it with the CustomRUU, which can be found HERE .

First of all you must downgrade OS to 7004 which downgrade SPL to ex 1.28. There two methods downgrading:first downgrade SPL by asnar in Mozart Development part of the forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1413694 and the second one via Y-cable. after downgrading SPL to 1.28 you must install HSPL than you will be able to install custom roms. Remember it may be dengerous for your phone if something goes wrong.
You can look also here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1002391&highlight=cable

Can you write all passage in order?...this is the first time that I flash a custom rom in my life...I 'm interested at the first method (asnar)...
Help me please
I am trying to build a tutorial for my case, maybe it can be usefull for others!!
All the info was taken from other topics and posts from XDA
Stuff you must know (from DFT thread):
SPL is Secondary Program Loader. It allows to flash ROMs to device.
Without working SPL device is fully bricked, you can’t restore it. It’s why all operations with SPL are dangerous.
OSPL is Original SPL. This SPL comes with stock ROM and doesn’t allow to flash custom stuffs.
RSPL is Reloaded SPL. It load only to RAM, so it doesn’t persistent. It’s enough to soft reset device to get OSPL back.
HSPL is Hard SPL. It’s permanently flashed to internal device memory and replaces OSPL. After soft reset you still have HSPL instead of OSPL.
For regular users, who flash ROMs rather rare, it can be enough to use only RSPL.
For advanced users and ROM makers, it can be useful to install HSPL.
IMPORTANT NOTES
1. Before doing any operations be sure you have battery level more than 50%!
Sometimes in SPL mode WP7F devices DO NOT charge. You may got a cold brick if it power down during SPL or RADIO update!
2. Stock RUU ROMs have two NBH inside, SPL_Signed and RUU_Signed.
So it's not possible directly flash stock ROM, you need extract files and remove SPL_Signed.nbh at least.
3. Rememeber if you have HSPL and you flashing stock RUU_Signed.nbh you lost HSPL!
4. Supported OS: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7.
Warranty Issues
Be warned, using RSPL may void your warranty.
If you need to send your device to a Repair Centre, make sure that it looks like stock! Install stock official ROM before go to Repair Centre.
My case is:
Htc Mozart T8698
Windows phone 7.5
Os version: 7.10.8773.98
Firmware 2250.21.51201.401
Firmware 0004
Radio 5.71.09.02a_22.51.50.21U
Radio A.102.0.D4
Boot loader 5.12.2250.1(134578)
SOC 2.2.5.0
What i want to do? FULL UNLOCK IT!
So what i have done...
First of all you must know your Mozart!!
The important numbers, in my case, where:
Os version: 7.10.8773.98 because you must downgrade from 8773 (my case) to 7004
Firmware 2250.21.51201.401 THIS TUTORIAL IS FOR THE ONES THAT END IN 401 ( its called the CHARACTERISTIC VALUE and its CV401)
YOU SHOULD READ more info in this thread from ansar: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=999405
Boot loader 5.12.2250.1(134578) BECAUSE YOU WANT YOUR BOOTLOADER TO BE IN VERSION 1.28.2250.4
Now you know your numbers I MUST SAY! If your Mozart ends in 401 (CV 401) you can continue, if not this tutorial is not for you!! Sorry, but keep looking!
FIRST STEP!
You shall want to downgrade your rom to 7004 which will also downgrade your SPL to 1.28!! SPL IS THE SAME HAS THE BOOTLOADER!!
You can do it by 2 ways!! Using the cable method (will not do it) or via the asnar method ( THATS IT!! TANX ASNAR)!!
So lets do it with the asnar method which is on this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1413694
READ IT ALL A FEW TIMES!!!
i will not tell how to do it because the asnar thread is obvious, and i advise you to read it a few times!!
I WILL THIS: if during the downgrade process you got the ERROR 270 its because the SPL is version 1.28.2250.3 dont worry it happens to me, i know you are stuck now and the mobile doesnt do nothing instead of showing the bootloader screen!! What you will do now is upgrade the SPL to 1.28.2250.4 ok??
dont worry! just install this one on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=858599
So after that you on the correct 1.28, lets keep going...
SECOND STEP
You must want RSPL and then HSPL
so just read this a few times, but its all on the first page:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1195647
If all its ok, now you can add any custom ROM like NextGen, Dynamics, DeepShinninh of NewTech from asnar!!
Thanks majkellj!!

hey your links seems to be down
i have bad Vendor ID problem; error 394 during downgrade with ansar's methode ;
(is this the link that you were using ? )
FW is : 2250.21.51202.401
Boot loader is : 5.12.2250.2
Hi all,
Portuguese Operator Optimus HTC blocked to them. I followed this tutorial and so far i have downgrade to SP 1.28 but i had the issue error 270 so i had to downgrade two times for .03 and for the .04 SPL version 1.28 .
After that did the HPSL i had some problem decidyng wich version to decide, but i see that my spl is 1.28 it version 1 of the HPSL, did all went ok.
Now i will try the rom at 7.8 and one from the http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239474&page=11 to try to correct the issue of screen not respondig at first.
Just a thing i tried the Mwang at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1239474&page=11 to solve the screen issue and it solved because of the downgrade of the screen driver to should stay at v63.
now let's go to a 7.8 rom and restore my full zune backup.
I tried the nokia 1.2 at 7.8 version maybe because i always had nokia phones since 1997, and now doing a full restore of a zune backup in 7.5 version.....
Almost, rebooting and ... restoring ....
