Hi All
I have been playing with QVGA and True VGA and there is just a too big Gap between the two
One is 2 Big and the other 2 Small
previously on my Jasjar I set the resolution to 144 (Slap Bam in the Middle)
The problem with this is all the VGA Stuff as well as the most of the icons is missing but ..... IT IS REALLY the best RES to work, not too smal or big the sliders etc also looks just right
Shouldn't we start looking at developing for 144 Resolution and get it over and done with once and for all
OK - It's been a long time since I've done this, where do we start!!!!!!!
VGA 128dpi
Hi Skillie,
144dpi resources are hard to get so it would be quite a lot of work. I can easily provide you with 128dpi resources because they are supported by Microsoft.
I will provide you with the necessay files within the next 2 days.
Cheers,
Tobias
VGA 128
This is the installation for VGA 128dpi. Give it a try. This one is for English devices. If you need any other language let me know.
If you don't need the video call function then you can fix the phone by setting the registry entry
HKLM\Security\Phone\Skin\Enabled=0 and perform a soft reset.
Have fun
PS: When I will find the time I will provide a little program to switch betwen 192dpi <-> 128dpi <-> 96dpi
VGA 128pdi
Sorry it seems that there was a problem with the upload ...
Yeah Man!!!!!!
This is so cool - did you do it all on your own?
I will test this for a while and let you know but the size is nether too big or small - This I can live with this for more than 10 minutes - look at that real-estate!!!!!
Thanks u are Tops!!!
VGA 128dpi
I'm doing PocketPC development device driver development since 2002, so it was not a big deal
There are some minor issues with some dialogs, like the wireless config dialog but I will fix that when I have some time. Actually I got the resources from the QVGA 320x320 emulator, which runs at 128dpi.
Cheers,
Tobias
I have been playing with it - my Phone works but the other usual stuff not
but i am so impressed with this I will actually keep it on this resolution
A lot of work has gone into fixing the the cosmetics i'm sure to find the right files for this as well
From now on I am recommending this to all who complain about big Icons \(or too smal ones )
Excellent Work !!!!!!!
I bet this will be part of WM7!!!!!!
Cheers
Frikkie
I'm gonna sound like a real noob now .... can i just install this new CAb and try it? If i dont like it uninstall and then reset and its gone? Dont wanna bugger up my Ameo as I have it working how i like apart from the screen space!

If you uninstall it again you will be back on 192dpi (factory default).

I tried this utility quickly. Initially seemed ok. Today screen looked good as did the program files.
However when I tried to start Excel, nothing seemed to happen at all except the machine was apparently stuck on something. It stopped doing anything beyond putting the word excel in the title bar. Still saw the 3 pocket office icons on the screen and that's all that happened. Had to manually stop Excel with the memory tool. Uninstalled the vga cab and all is back to normal, including a working Excel.
I tried this. Excel and word worked perfectly for me.
The backlight glider also has no problem. HTC homeplug is perfect.
Phone application works although it leaves a space at the bottom. Also,I can't see the dialed number if it is not one stored in the contact database. Any way it still beats VJBigphone hands down.
Comm manager is messed up still.
Standard keyboard are too small, as expected. However the Tengo keyboard is still prefect.
All icons on tasksbar are perfect. Today screen icons are completely perfect.
The beautiful standardcalculator skin is gone, replaced by ugly looking round lines for the keys. But this is no big deal. I don't need the standard calculator anyway. HiCalc is the way to go, and HiCalc works well, other than a little gap at the top.
This resolution is way way better IMHO than ozvga or mvrtrurvga. The size of the taskbar and bottom bar is a lot more pleasing, and blend in with the application better, since theit sizes does not contrast too sharply from the button sizes of traditional applicationapplications.
The only real problem is, my navigation software iGO my way is completely messed up. What a pity. I like this resolution very much, but would hate to have to uninstall then soft reset to drive. After driving,I would have to install then soft reset to get back to this.
Is it possible to have a program to toggle,at least to remove the need for installing and uninstalling? I suppose it is not possible to avoid the soft reset?

I will provide you one this evening. BTW: TomTom for instance works perfectly with this resolution. iGO also doesn't work with 96dpi on VGA as far as I know. I'm sorry

Just surprised why it takes so long for this utility to come out. Very very fantastic!
Good... at last something new to play with since the WM6 flashing.
This is definitely the resolution that brings the X7500 to its fullest rights
As mentioned earlier someone had issues with the Excell but I also had a issue but everything works now
Cool
I'm looking forward for the toggle to switch the display modes. Thanks for your huge contribution.
Does it work with WM6? To come back to factory resolution is it enough to uninstall it?
THX so much!

THX so much...about phone skin? Should I use an appropriate skin to use the phone?
Great, but some icons missing
Hi, I love it, however some of the small icons in SPB Pocket Plus / Diary are missing... any chance for a fix?
Important!!
many guys are not clear about the installation, let me clarify it here:
The correct sequence of installation should be like this:
1. install sdkcerts <- REMEMBER!!
2. install the revised resouce pack
3. run RealVGA. if it prompts for missing DLLs, just ignore it. proceed and it will do a soft reset
4. if you want to have video call, install 3G Dialer and do soft reset
5. the <Diamond WMP Skin.cab> is just a skin for WMP. i think it looks much better than the original one in 96dpi. you may choose not to install it. i just want to share with you guys here
NOTE:
I haven't tested the language packs, they may conflict with the resource packs! if you really want to have the language packs installed, make sure you install the language packs FIRST before this main program!
Updated RealVGA
-Revised WLM resources
if you use DXHL2 or above, it's better to update this patch to have faster response of WLM. it doesn't harm if you still use the old patch
what's more:
-Nadavi 3G Dialer (for Video call) <-remember to install RealVGA first
-HTC WMP Skin (NO more gaps!!)
Hey guys I have modified the source pack of realvga. it's tailor made for i780. no more missing icons in Domain Enroll, Task Managers or threaded sms.
enjoy!
NOTE:
Make sure you install <sdkcerts.cab> before the resource pack!!

anyone who has time to test it?
really appreciate for the effort...

does not for seem to work for me.
no change after installing sdcerts and realvga
I just test it today and it works flawless. Thanks!

they shouldn't be playing a role in the patch

Thanks Xyam - but issues....
Hi Xyam - went ahea with 96dpi desite the missing DLLs.
Generally - seems to be ok but the menu text has disappeared. So I see only icons in the Start Menu.

hi,
the size of the icons are pre-defined, say, 32x32 and 16x16 in 96dpi.
I know HTC TouchFlo has the "big icon" feature but it slows down the phone.

Works Great! Thks so much for the files.
Plenty of folks have been using the i780 fix on our i770s, and it seems to have the same issues the i780s had. Did you manage to fix the symbols in the dialer? Is that an issue on the i780? the locations and bluetooth icons in the phone dialer skin render oddly.
Do you know if you have to do a full reinstall to use the new respack? Or can i say diable realvga, install the new pack, etc etc...
Thanks for the tweaking, it's very much appreciated. I'll report back on how it goes.

guys, my video call function failed to work after applying RealVGA 96dpi.
Although i have disabled phone skin (by ticking it).
What's weird is that when i enable phone skin (untick) in 96dpi, i can receive video call without any problem but again I am unable to make any video call....

OK, but Without translation
It works fine on my French Orange i780 (example : the letter icons appears in the sms mailbox) but I lost the virtual keyboard.
The virtual keyboard re-appears when I install the french translation (LangPackFRA.ARM.CAB, this one I download with RealVGA 1.1) but I have many problem : cannot use phone, cannot vibrate and ring, cannot use contacts... So I uninstall the french translation.
How can we make a french translation for this version ?
thx a lot brother

problem.
hi everyone, i have recently updated my i780 from wm6 -> wm6.1 and getting some problems with realvga. It worked perfectly on wm6, but not on wm6.1
Some icons are missing in the "Settings" and "main menu" when i apply the dpi. I also get a error message regarding some missing dlls when applying the dpi i want to use.
anyone else here know how to fix this problem or install realvga on i780 with wm6.1 without problems?
tnx in advance.
I am creating this thread, because it should be able to be used with any VGA Manila 2.1 device.
Originally I was posting this it 3 threads. But it belongs in it's own thread so the other threads don't get polluted.
Co0kieMonster monster has a thread that accomplishes this for Manila 2.1. Unfortunately that did not work for VGA Manila 2.1.
For WVGA Devices go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=539107
I took that work and used the tools by stzupy to decompile and make slight changes to allow it to work with VGA. Credit goes to both Co0kieMonster and stzupy.
I only claim credit for making the changes to let this be used with VGA.
But,
I did spend a reasonable amount of time on this, so if you appreciate what I've done and want to buy me a beer by donating, it is appreciated. If not, of course it's free to use. On a side note, I plan to donate to Co0kieMonster and sztupzy based on any donations I recieve for porting this to VGA, since their work made it possible for me to do this work.
To install.
Method 1, the cab.
Disable TFL3D
copy the cab to phone.
Launch the Cab
Install to device.
Enable TFL3D
Method 2, Manual
Disable TFL3D
use the reg file to make the needed registry entries ( either use a program or manually create all of them. The reg file can be opened with notepad.
Copy the 3 Manila files to your phone.
Use total commander on your phone to move these to the windows folder.
Enable TFL3D
Please post in this thread links to ROMs that appear to be using without mentioning that this came from JVH3.
I appreciate donations and being asked. And as I noted portions of donations recieved for this will go to Co0kieMonster and sztupzy. It was sztupzy's tools and Co0kieMonster's work on the WVGA device that I started with.
There is a decent amount of work in learning to decompile and compile manila lua scripts and learning what changes affect what, so it was not a trivial task, but nothing in comparison to the total port of Manila 2.1 to VGA that Yozgatg has done.
As of this edit (February 17th, 2010) I have revieved no donations for it. As donations are recieved, I will post the 5 highest donators in this post, along with the 5 most recent.
Edit

Thanks for this. I am not seeing any problems with all programs in landscape, so it must be something specific to the ROM your running or another mod.

Well, I don't have enough info to know what is wrong, but I can ask these questions and give you a few things to check:
Do you have the VGA port of Manila 2.1 installed or included in your ROM?
What device?
What ROM and what date of the ROM?
This does not create the tab, it changes the existing program tab.
If you don't have a program tab, then it might just be disabled.
If you go to the Settings Tab, there is an option, Customize Tabs.
Make sure that Programs is checked.
Hope that helps

Sorry what a noob thing to do. I'm running the vga port of 2.1 on Juicy's 8 ROM, build 090830 (released 08/30/09), on a Sprint Touch Pro. There is no programs tab to check under the customize tabs settings. I misunderstood what the cab was, sorry. Any thoughts on where I could go to get info. on creating a programs tab?
I dared to install the cab on a Diamond with custom win6.5/Manila 2.0 ROM.
i got the fourth column......with the first and fourth colums halved by the screen side edges! (no icon resizing to get the 4 columns within screen real estate)
Yes, i know the program says Manila 2.1 not 2.0, but...
why it doesnt work in 2.0?
may we expect a Manila2.0 release soon?
Best regards

Wow, no programs tab.
There is probably some manila file that just needs to be replaced, because the tab is a part of the Manila 2.1 port.
In Manila 2.0, I used to manually modify a file to control the order of my tabs. Might be the same one in 2.1
Found the thread for the ROM:
http://ppcgeeks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58002
I couldn't see any screen shots. I'm not a member there and couldn't see a search this thread. I would search that thread to see where the programs tab is or how to get it back. The people in that thread would most likely know what to do to get it back, since it seems they removed it.
Still can't believe they didn't include it.
[EDIT]
Realized I am a member there. JohnVH3
Haven't posted ther though. Found this in that thread:

I assume you did not have a programs tab before.
I have uploaded to this post, all the Manila files that are in the 8/6 Energy ROM that define these constants. Probably if you copy them to your windows folder, it will look normal for you.
Sure, when Microsoft added the ability to rearrange the order of items in your start menu, I was happy. I use a vertical list and I like it sorted. But I have a lot of installed apps so doing it by hand is a pain at best.
So I spent a day and wrote the WM 6.5.1 Start Menu Sorter. It does just what it says, sorts your start menu. Just install the CAB and run the program.
[UPDATE]
I've release a new version of the sorter. I've really only changed 2 things.
You can now choose to sort Directories first

Thx, any experiences on HTC stock ROM WM 6.5 21869 (Topaz)?
Thank u JoeWilcox, this looks mighty handy !
I tried this on my Sprint Touch Pro 2 with Energy ROM 6.5 Leo and didn't do much. It definitely changed the order of icons in my Start Menu but they're not in alphabetical order. I ran it a couple times but it didn't change after the first time.
Working good for me, sorts in alphabetical order.
+ 1 for folders on top as i have to move them manually after sorting.
normal 6.5 might not be supported. I don't think they added reordering until 6.5.1.
Re-ordering works for 6.5 in that I can select an icon and move it up to the top, but that's it.

May it sort by type first then by name? In result we will get all folders on the top, then files. folders and files will be still sorted by name but separately.

Files and folders are already sorted seperately, I just weight files first.

Isn't that a build without the improved start menu. It might not work there, it might. I've never installed a build from that branch so I don't know. What sorted and what didnt?
It would be great to get the folders listed first, like on the PC.
Since your 'AwesomeStart.cab' also changes the look of the Settings location, do you think you could provide another cab that orgainizes it like this one does? TIA
How does it change the look of the settings tab. It shouldn't be affecting the icons at all.
When I choose settings within sense 2.5, it looks like normal (prior to when I ran your awesome cab). However, when I click the soft menu for all settings, it goes to a list view of the settings like it does for the start menu, except they aren't in aphabetical order.
Crash on my TD2.... IO exception...
Ok, looks like 'Start menu' is hard coded.... I have 'Menu Démarrer' on my French ROM
I have WM 6.5 with M2D.

It depends on wich rom you are using but let's give it a try,
- Backlight: start/settings/system/power/backlight
- Change ring/vibrate: start/settings/personal/phone
- Change volume: with the side-keys on your phone, or on the topbar by touching the speaker (not in all versions) and for vibrate by pressing the # button on your keypad (not in all roms)
- lost call: You see a notification on your screen if you missed a call otherwise go to the dialer-menu.
There are more ways to get the same result, so go playing with your phone and you'll see it for yourself.
Hope I helped you a little bit in the right direction.

The version of Touchflo you are using I'm not sure which one that is but if you want to learn more of m2dc just go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=427392&highlight=manilla
Hopefully you can find your answer there.

I think it's human mistake, maybe I'm forgotting doing something. I'll open a new thread once the one I have problems its closed.
Many thanks.
By the way, how to install that bottom bar we see in many WM6.5 ROMS? (With start icon, back button and X button but on the bottom).
Also how to get taskbar without start button ?
I saw many roms with and without, confused if its WM6.5 function or not.

It seems that you have a thread only made for us, ok first of all, I don't mind to help you, but you have to read and search a bit more and if you don't know anything, you can always send me a pm, I don't mind at all.
Ok to get back to your question, it just depends on what rom you are using proberly you are now using the naked version from DJ, and that is a com 2 branch, it means that it don't have a bottombar, in my signature you see a rom I made and that is one with bottombar also DJ made beautiful rom's with bottombar just search for his threads.
Cheers,
Look's like there's any ROM where we can control the lock.
There's any way to make those rom's auto lock after backlight turn off ?

There is an app for that - I have a link on my insomnia thread for the cab - here is the link to the thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=542482
It allows you to lock the device when it goes to sleep or you switch off the backlight.

Thank you.
I found another app but it was not working so I will try this one.
One more question regarding using WM6.5, on WM6.1, I had a Java (I think its JRE) to (for example) install gmail/app.
I saw on your ROM java blend. It's the same thing ?

This is what comes with HTC devices and is a Java application - not sure whether all Java apps are compatible with it though.
