Could this work? - Mogul, XV6800 ROM Development

Would it be possible to place the nbh for Olipro 2.40, a radio of choice, and a cooked rom image onto an SD card in order to make for an easy way to recover data in the event of a handset swap?

You could put the rom and radio on the sd card, but not the bootloader. There are several steps you must follow and you MUST have an activesync connection when installing a new bootloader.

has anyone attempted to make a method that might allow the bootloader to be done via the SD card? it could be very useful...

I suppose that it is possible to have a util that's native and specific to a certain PPC to unlock/lock/change the bootloader, but as currently needing Activesynch that would require a functioning OS on the PPC to boot into.
Rather than coding the changes for that it's easier to just have a PC around to do the job.

Upgrading ROM using a Mac?

Yes, I did a search and google but still can't find a clear answer. I have just bought a 8525 with ATT and want to start loading those cool WM6 rom's I see all over the site. Problem is I have a Mac and can't figure out how to make it all happen. I use Missingsync and can load cab files with no prob but even trying to load Hard-SPL-V7 is not workning for me. I mean, I can get it on the phone but can't make it open or do anything else. I have checked all the great "how to" files but none seem to address this Mac situation. Any help in pointing me in the right direction would be MOST appriciated.
Thanks in advance;
Stephan Howard-Cooper
You'll have to use a virtual environment via Parallels or VMWare Fusion. Or get Boot Camp up and running and reboot into Windows.
Finally, you can also do the SD Card method for OS upgrade detailed in the Wiki.
I've done all methods except for Boot Camp without issue.
Hi
Pof's HERMflasher seems to work with Intel MACs too.

Thanks for the reply guys. I have tried the SD method but must be doing something wrong. I renamed the nbh file and then put all the extracted files onto the card. When I attempt to bootload I get to the tricolor screen but nothing else.?????

First, you need to have HardSPLv7 installed. A.f.a.i.k. this does not work with unmodified bootloaders.
Next, you need to make sure that your MicroSD card is formatted using FAT32. The FAT32 cluster size also matters (for my 2gig card, 8k or 4k cluster sizes worked, 16k or 32k cluster size did not).
You dont need an empty sd card for it to work either. As long as the card is formatted correctly (as above), and you put a file called HERMIMG.NBH in the root directly, it should work.
When you soft-reset, you should see a white screen that says "Loading..." for a split second, and then if it detects the HERMIMG.NBH, you should see the prompt asking you if you want to start flashing. It will also tell you what you are trying to flash (IPL, SPL, Splash, OS, GSM, ExtROM, etc.).

Is it possible to flash ROM without USB?

Unfortunately, i've a brocked usb at my HTC Nike - it was burned by incompatible charger. So, is it possible to flash from SD card like another HTC phones?
Yes it is possible, though I've not been able to get it to work myself.
Process is...
1. Format SD Card to FAT32
2. Rename your rom to NIKEIMG.NBH and copy to sd card
3. boot phone in bootloader more and it should flash. (i used enterbootloader.exe, but you can also use power+camera+reset apparantly)
I think because I've upgraded my HardSPL it doesn't work for me, as I sit in bootloader screen (white with word "loading...") for ages.
Anyway, here's a link where I found the info.
Hope it works for someone else.
Yes, it works! Thank you!

Looking for some advice and opinions on upgrade and software

I recently purchased an M3100 so I can use it for work. I run a web hosting business and I need to be able to access my sites and client sites, some with ssl certs. Now I want to upgrade the phone to WM6 for obvious reasons.
What I would like to know, as a newb to windows mobile is the best way to do this from scratch, opinions on the best version of WM6 and other software that may be of use. Especially looking for password manager and best browser.
many thanks in advance, .....steve
1st, install Hard SPL V7, here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=296722
Go to page 116, post 1160 for instructions to use sd card. Just make sure the sd card is 2Gb or less and you have a charged battery.
After that you're good to go to install any rom in the Hermes section. I tend to use the sd card method for this, its a little bit different now you have Hard SPL.
1. Format sd card FAT32. Copy the .nbh file of the rom you want to it and rename to hermimg.nbh .
2. Insert sd card into Hermes and go to bootloader.
3. If you did everything right then follow the prompts.
Best advice, read the chef's write up and then check out the comments, they'll tell you about possible problems with the rom and possible fixes.
Cheers...

SD card Flash for all ROMs-thanks to Twolf.

If I follow this very COOL SD card Flash ROM trick, does that mean I can do this for any ROM without the need to SSPL, HARDSPL? And Also Radio Flashing?
Just my noob experiences on it:
1.) you do not need to SSPL and HARDSPL again any more to flash new ROMS, but you have to do it atleast once, the first time around.
2.) When you flash a new RADIO ROM from the files here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369502 Make sure to delete or rename the nikeimg.nbh on the SD card or else when the RADIO flash aps starts to flash, it will then revert to your image and reflash your phone with that ROM in your SD card instead. If you want to keep that ROM there, then remove the SD card when you flash a new RADIO.

This are just my experiences, it may not work for all. I am not responsible for whatever damages this may cause your device.

Thanks though Twolf for making my life more easier!

[Q] unable to flash any ROM

Hi all,
cause my HD2 was getting freeze, I decided to flash it again. After few attempts I am in phase, that I can´t successfully finish any ROM flashing.
I tried official ROMs 1.66.405.2, 1.66.479.2, 3.14.479.2 and also unofficial.
Now I have HSPL 3.03 and flashing always ends up with error mostly in 1% or more %, because of "communication error" or "image file corruption" or "old version of DFT". Flashing from SD card does not work, it goes directly in SPL window..
Phone is still under warranty, but I´m afraid they will refuse it due to installed HSPL.
Does exist some another app like TASK29 or low-level formatting tool?
Any idea what could I try? Can it be cause of corrupted flash memory?
Thanks.
Mira
Don't freak out all is not lost you just hit a bump in the road. Did you reflash HSPL after trying to flash via SD card as flashing a official ROM via SD card will revert you back to SPL.
Yes run a Task 29 on your HD2 and make sure you right click it and run it as administrator. You have to have HSPL to run a Task 29 though so make sure you have HSPL before you run it.
I have used HSPL4 app so at this time I have in phone 3.03 HSPL.
Flashing from SD card didn´t work, window with instruction does not appear.
With Task29 is the situation same. Mostly it does not finish successfully and fail after 19% due to reasons mentioned above. I have only one account in WinXP with admin rights, so this is ok I think.
Just to be sure here you copied the RUU_signed.nbh file to your SD card and renamed it LEOIMG.nbh and then powered your HD2 on while holding the volume down button down right? Just double checking is all, plus you might have to reformat your SD card using Fat 32 if you try it again and get the same results.
It does not matter if you have one or more admin accounts on your computer and it does not matter if you are using the admin account still right click it and run as admin trust me on this.
Also go to myphone.microsoft.com/getstarted and download and install the latest version of ActiveSync or Windows Mobile Device Center wich ever one you need according to what version of Windows your computer uses. I tell you to do this to make sure you have the latest USB drivers for your HD2.
- yes I tried it exactly this way, they were 1GB and 4GB microSD formated as FAT32
- as I said, I do not have possibility run exe file as admin, however it was working fine in the past
- I´m using now latest version MS Activesync 4.5.0
still no change

Try Googling for "Panasonic micro SD card formatting software" downloads and install it (it is free) and format your card with it. Sometimes the windows format utility just doesn't do the job. Then place the leoimg.nbh file on your SD card and try to flash it.
