At the InsideMicrosoft blog is a long article about the touch and motion gestures that will be part of Windows Mobile 7 (WM7)--the next version of Microsoft's mobile OS for smart phones, handhelds and PDAs. In it, he has many screenshots detailing how multi-touch and physical motions applied on a device will affect what's seen on the screen.
Before iPhone fans start the "copycat" accusations, the source of the images and information are supposed to be from an internal Microsoft document, and the screenshots seen there may not be in the final product. In one of the images, the onscreen keypad has a text bubble which magnifies the letter being touched--just like on the iPhone. But right beside it, a screenshot showing the desktop version of Word is superimposed on the handheld's display. This just goes to show that some of these images have been created to illustrate concepts and ideas. We certainly hope the end-product will look significantly different from Apple's.

You may not remember this because the news came out during CES, but back in January there was a gigantic leak of Windows Mobile 7 details, including an Alaskan Senator's dump truck full of images. Brandon from Pocket Now recently got to SEE Windows Mobile 7 at a Microsoft MVP event, and while he thinks it's a fantastic OS, he's got a huge problem with the release date. Based on what he heard at Microsoft, the target release date seems to be mid to late 2009. He's got no problem with the technology in WM7—he says it basically addresses everything wrong with WM6 today—but the fact that it's not going to be released until a year and a half from now is troublesome. How can Microsoft compete when the iPhone will already been out for two and a half years, and iPhone clones have been out for more than one? It's tough.
And it's not like Microsoft can do anything about it. After they finish the OS, they have to send it out to OEMs and carriers and third-party companies in order to test and embed and develop on it. That's the problem with creating only an OS, instead of making an all-in-one OS and hardware product. But that's where Brandon thinks Microsoft has bomb to drop.
There's a possibility that Microsoft will take the recently acquired Danger (the makers of the T-Mobile Sidekick) and put them to work on hardware made expressly for Windows Mobile 7. Just think about how well Apple's done by integrating software onto hardware they built themselves. The same could be true with Microsoft. [PocketNow - Image Credit]

[GAME] GalaxyHopper - New OpenGL Game for the HD2 and others

GalaxyHopper
It'is time again: I want to introduce my new game to you. It goes by the name "Galaxy Hopper" and is a puzzle game.
Where download?
Here's the direct download: Download
And here's my homepage: Homepage
The . Cab is approximately 5.5 MB in size.
Game idea:
There are five difficulty levels with 12 levels to choose from. In each level your task is to bring the UFO to the middle of the board.
Any object can be moved in all 4 directions. The only rule: They'll fly until they hit another object. Moves into free space are therefore not allowed. That sounds simple, but it is not ...
Technology:
The game is based on OpenGL and has therefore very smooth animation and effects. The intro is realized as a so-called motion comic and there's an atmospheric soundtrack. Some screenshots can be found below.

}
Installation:
Simply download the cab file and copy it to your device. Then tap it and follow the instructions. The best the game is installed directly on the device, but an installation on the memory card is also possible (albeit slower).
Compatibility / Troubleshooting:
The game was originally developed for the HD2. Other devices (such as the HD) should of course be supported, but here I cannot promise anything (just try it!).
On older devices the game will probably not run due to missing OpenGL support.
If the game does not start, crashes or freezes a soft reset should help.
Updates
Version 1.1 is now (2nd of February 2010) online. It fixes some bugs with the levels as well as other minor things.
So, what do you think guys n' gals?
Some kind of Feedback would be nice
WOW another great one !!! Thanks Vankurt
I'm gonna try it this evening on my HD
Wow! Nice, great stuff looks fantastic and runs great on the HD2
I would add the [GAME] tag to the title of the thread if I were you, helps with searching and notcing great new games
I love this game it is really great!!!
A little bit more smooth on the HD would be nice
Well the game game was designed for the HD2. But I've heard from many people, that it works fine on the HD as well.
Maybe you have something going on in the background?
Or a strange ROM on your phone?
Or it just needs a soft-reset?
One thing you can try is to turn off sound (music and effects). There seems to be a little bug in there...
Let me know if it helps! If so, I'll fix that.
will try it out and posy my review on it
nice game!works great on my HD2 but it's not anything heavy! I was expecting it to be more graphics demanding..
Allrighty! The first update is out, mainly fixing some issues with unbeatable levels. Plese use the download link on the front page to download the latest version (1.1).
Is the updated cab file for 1.1 having file size of 5,628,486 bytes?
Yes, indeed it does

:END
When on holiday while carrying the phone but not a Laptop/PC this game can not be installed, because it needs ActiveSync to install. I really hate it when that happens! BTW it's not that I hate ActiveSync, it's just that I love the User Customization that many (xda cooks and) ROMs support nowadays. Therefore I've extracted the *.cab
I do wonder why many developers use various packers to create an *.EXEcutable. Is it so hard to provide 'just' a *.cab file? Ah, well...

Works for devices without 3D acceleration/drivers unlike the latest HTC ?
Did you actually visit the original site?
I have a Topaz WVGA (HTC Diamond 2) and when I turn off ground view it runs nearly smoothly.
I didn't even set Glyph Cache from 8192 MB to 16384 MB yet.
IMO 3D accelleration is currently only enabled for the PC version.
The latest version compiled is the one for the HTC Diamond and this isn't one of the 'latest' phones... so, give this cab a try!

I tried this on my htc hd2 but couldn't get it to work properly. It loads, but I couldn't fly it and it crashed a lot. I tried with the chainfire 3d patch for the hd2 and without, and without the patch worked slightly smoother. It's too bad, this looked really cool.
Me 2 slackersink I have HD2, and this game doesn't work well
Check the origianl site. There are more versions..

or updates??
Have a nice day,

pull down - phone horizontal, though not too long otherwise you might crash in the ground
go left - phone 45 degrees to left
go right = vice versa

It worx great on my HTC Diamond II
Have fun,

Looks fun - will it work touch screen only / without keys (i.e. HD2)?
Any chance of wvga?
Thanks!
It does work flawlessly with touchscreen!
It does not support WVGA and I do not know it it ever will.
I use it in combination with WVGAFIX3 (WVGA VGA SQVGA switch support). I do know there's a WVGAFIX4 too and IMO it supports landscape mode too. Do a search here on xda to find these fine apps (if you do not want to see ugly borders).
Have fun,
Senax
How is this any different to the version on Pocketblasters.com???
http://www.pocketblasters.com/invaders.htm
Works fine on my hd2 despite not having wvga - doesn't really matter.
Thanks! Loving it.

This Turbo Invaders is not different. The only difference is that the original is provided in an executable rather than in a cabinet and you do not need 250 clickpoints on ClickPayGo.com 1st before anyone is able to download it for free... I had another source than ClickPay and found it on my HD when a friend asked me if I had the cab. I totally forgot about this game (obtained in 2004).
EDiT;
When on holiday while carrying the phone but not a Laptop/PC this game can not be installed, because it needs ActiveSync to install. I am someone who is not always carrying a LapTop or Personal Computer under my ARM that is one of the reasons I prefer *.cab's.
Since day one I prefer *.cab files over *.exe files. It is not that I hate ActiveSync or something it's just that I love the User Customization that many (xda cooks and) ROMs support nowadays. Therefore ( luckily ) quite some time ago I've extracted the *.cab
Plus not everyone in this world is lucky enough to have the money to obtain both a Personal Computer or Laptop (or both/several) AND a HTC phone!!!
Though if for some reason you find it not appropriate to put it up here .. I'll happily remove it... ,

I just wondered if there was something different, as you didn't explain that you'd put it in a cab file. I too prefer cab files to any other format (whether ActiveSync installs or just a zipped exe & assoc files.) In fact, I keep all my cab files on my storage card - I love them THAT much
Thanks for explaining mate - I just wondered.

Maddening ordering system in android

Hello. I am kind of new to this forum so if this is not the right place to post this I apologize. Anyway, I was watching a series when I noticed a big jump in the episode. From episode 10 it played 100 next, the trend appears to be 1, 2, 3,...10, 100, 101, 102....110,11, 111,112,etc, maddening.
I know I can solve this by installing a third party app. But I am loving samsung's gallery and I hate the idea of using the same app (QuickPic) for both video and image. Might there be a way to handle this natively?

An image to get a clearer picture of what's happening. Thanks.
I gather you've never used Windows? Windows Explorer does this, too. (Or it used to, anyway. I haven't used single-digit numbering for years because of this.)
Most systems recognise the first digit first, instead of checking how many digits there are. So it will always be 1, 10, 100, 2, 20, 200, 3, 30, 300.
The easiest way to solve this is using as many digits as the largest number. So it becomes 001, 002, 003, 010, 020, 030, 100, 200, 300.
You can use Bulk Rename Utility to make this a bit easier: http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/
I have used windows 98 to windows 8 and have never seen this. I even download manga on windows with 1.jpg numbering system and never see this problem (although I have to admit that I only viewed serial videos and comics on windows xp up.
The example on the image was downloaded on my windows 8.1 laptop and the arrangement was okay. So I was surprised that you mentioned that. I have used PCs all my life and only see this behavior on Android. The sudden change in the way my device do things is what drove me to this forum,
But thanks for the rename suggestion. I will use this workaround until android can improve its filesystem structure. It's just maddening that android does this. Even on linux which gave me nightmares on first time setup played videos on sequence even when named with 1 digit order.
It just bothers me because when we normally download rar or torrent (legal of course.) movies and images are usually using one digit ordering system. Well, at least I now understand why this is happening. Thanks for the reply.

https://betanews.com/2022/05/11/windows-xp-2022-edition/ -- Windows 10 or Windows 11. While Microsoft would prefer users to be running the latest OS, adoption of Windows 11 has slowed dramatically in recent months.
When Windows XP first arrived back in 2001 it really shook things up with its revolutionary design and playful color scheme. If you were wondering how it might look if it was released today, we have the answer.

Prolific concept creator Addy Visuals has put his creative abilities into imagining what a modern version of XP might look like.
Given the tagline of 'Experience Again', his take on the OS has the look and color scheme of XP, blended with Windows 11 features, such as rounded corners and a centered taskbar and Start menu.
Addy's creation rocks a remastered version of the iconic Bliss wallpaper, but at one point he animates it, with the fluffy white clouds floating over the lush green hill, which is a great touch. And when XP goes into dark mode, the wallpaper looks as if it was taken at nighttime.
There are several nods to XP of the past here, including the return of the search companion Rover the dog, and 3D Pinball Space Cadet.

Windows users currently have a choice of two (supported) operating systems -- Windows 10 or Windows 11. While Microsoft would prefer users to be running the latest OS, adoption of Windows 11 has slowed dramatically in recent months.
