Android Port? - HTC Startrek

Perhaps this is a touchy subject, but with all the buzz about Android and its many ports right now, is there anybody out there thinking of spreading some of this love to the StarTrek?

I don't have the skill set to do any of the programming but I do have a really beat up 3125 I'm willing to donate to the cause. The phone works but the external screen is broken and the battery door catches have snapped off. The phone is SIM & application unlocked & has 6.1 on it.

Bumping this thread, since the Android source was released today.

Seriously considering selling Ameo

I'm getting fed up! I have a 16 GB T-Mobile Ameo (x7510 Athe400) with NO means of unlocking it, NO optimised ROMS I can load, and somewhat less than helpful approach from the admins here who cannot even be bothered to create a sub forum for the x7510.
I've had the Ameo for two months now and while the 5" screen is nice, and I appreciate the on-board GPS, the fact is I got it above all else as a tool to do my job. Specifically, to use with Remote Desktop to provide quicker response times in delivering network support to my clients.
I used to be the proud owner of a Universal. The Uni doesn't have GPS, nor an accelerometer and the screen is smaller. It has far less memory (64 and 128 MB models).
It does have 3G and a FAR superior keyboard and my Ameo has never seemed as responsive as the Uni, even though on paper the Ameo should be far superior!
In my car I used to use a Bluetooth rearview mirror as a hands-free solution as I cannot abide those silly earpieces that makes you look like something out of Star Trek! Except I couldn't get it to pair with the Ameo. Oh it paired with my Uni, my Wizard before I broke that, my Touch (elf 256) and now my Touch Diamond, but NOTHING I did could get it to pair with the Ameo!
Result: I had to buy an i.Tech Clip II handsfree device!
There are many little things wrong that I can live with, but the volume of these are stacking up to the point where I'm begiining to think that overall the Ameo is a heap of junk by comparison!
With the default T-Mobile ROM there is NO benefit whatsoever from having an accelerometer! The 16 GB storage is nice to have but not absolutely essential.
I've noticed some others got fed up with their Athenas. Does anybody have any compelling arguments to change my mind about the Ameo?
x7500 is the way in my opinion.
It's all about the rom. Get a secondhand or new Ameo x7500, unlock it, stick MichyPrima's 5.1 rom on it, get a 16GBsdhc card and off you go.
I was on the verge of ditching my ameo as it was getting old and other new shiney phones are always coming out. But now the MP 5.1 rom has changed all that as my x7500 is now fast as f+?k for most things. I even use it before my laptop at work as it is just better. Here is a list of stuff I do with it. (I'm trying to arrange for my boss to donate to Michy! by the way.)
Geotagged photos
downloading rss podcasts, video and audio
gRemote (works well with Vista on my HDTV)
listening to music,
phone calls (video too) with A2DP headset that switches back to music seemlessly.
Facebook (Snap2face) actually use this for work.
Crosswords
Audio notes
Youtube + Blip.tv
Weather
radio (via wifi)
flashlight (gets bloody dark where I live)
Gps navigation (google maps & TomTom)
Sprit level
Altimeter
File transfere (only thing microdive is good for IMHO)
Alarm Clock
Presentations with video out.
Audiobooks.
Email.
All of this works without a hitch and I charge my phone for 1.5 hours a day, (switched off=way quicker). I have tried many other units including iphone et al and not found anything that comes close. I am a technology advisor for artists in the area so this Ameo gets about 10hrs use a day and has only broke once which was my own stupid fault.
hope this helps.
P.s I never use the keyboard as the on screen is faster.
Thanks Matt. The problem is mine is an x7510 and there is no unlocker available for it.
Worse yet, what little technical info there is on the x7510 is mixed in with lots of detail about the x7500 and x7501, both of which have substantially different hardware.
I was lucky - Olipro's unlocker failed at an early stage and thus didn't brick my x7501. I ran the unlocker because it wasn't made clear anywhere that it is not safe to run on an x7510.
Others weren't so lucky and are now the proud owners of some rather expensive paperweights.
Despite this the admins here don't rate it as an issue at all and refuse to even comment on requests for a seperate x7510 forum under the Athena forum, let alone create it!
The Athena forum leans toward nasty, with various indivuduals having a superior attitude with callous disregard for others. I may not be able to code an unlocker, but I'll give them a right run for their money coding apps that tie Active Directory, Exchange and 3rd party SQL DB's together.
The Uni, Wizard and Elf forums don't suffer so much with bloody overinflated egos.
You know, people must have some SERIOUS self-image issues if they need to constantly "prove" to others just how superior they truly are! Saddos!
Having said that, there are some truly gifted and talented people here who selflessly give and don't have the attitude. Being friendly costs nothing!
Also, it's a bit like a night in a pub: never mind the loud-mouth little pip-squak trying to convince the world what a fighter he is - but watch out for the ones that don't boast!
To be fair, yes I can see benefits the Athena has, but with the exception of the on-board GPS and HSDPA I feel I was far better off with my Uni. Certainly with the Uni there was miles more support and none of the attitude problems. So I may yet sell my Athena and buy another Universal.
I think he meant sell your new one and get an old one.
To be fair most Athena users are busines speople who would have kep it ristiine, so you're pretty likely to pick up an X7500/01 in great condition pretty cheap.
I know what you mean about angry people here, but sometimes people need to be told to shut the f*ck up and search.
And with regards to an X7510 subforum, I think the mods dont see any advantage to it. No top devs have one, so very little chance of hard-spl and therefore custom roms, and o it will just be full of people moaning about having no unlocker.

My advice to you would be to speak with Olinex and Pawel directly and see if you can convince them to come back to this side of the world to do a bit more work with the X7510's. I totally understand your frustration, however I still believe that the X750(x) is still the better way to go for the 7510's. Both because of Hardware and software support. You can get the housing for the 7500's and replacement keyboards on ebay. And as you already pointed out the ability to do ROM updates on the likes of the 750(x)'s. If I were you I wouldn't give up just yet though. But if infact you can't wait then maybe you can trade in the 7510's for the touch HD and join the likes of Pawel and Oli over on that side of the world. I myself have to skip that one though, because their's nothing like my X7501 to date, well I stand corrected the (X7500's) are better.
At work we have the 7510's and to be honest im glad I have the 7500 of my own. the support for the 750* is fantastic on here as you are well aware, but the 7510 is so close yet so far away from it, its just TOO much like the older version to be worth starting over. As already said here you can sell up your 7510 to someone who wants "the up to date model" and replace it with a 7500, then you are away. well that is my veiw for you as well.

there is more than little chance, for unlocker, soon.
also I contacted a mod to help with this subforum thing

nah, any Athena is better than touch HD. so in full agreement there
I'll give you $500 USD and my x7500 for it.

Hi Artic Matt, which headset are you using?
I have 5.1 ROM and too much problems with bluetooth stack and a watch MBW 150, maybe because the headset, no the ROM I don't know. But the vibration funcionality of the Jabra is nice for the athena.
anyone mananged to figure out that ap4 and ap5 had a x7510 spl that was a hardspl and then also ap4 and ap5 were made with the x7510 in mind. meaning the hardspl and roms for the x7510 are already there. cmonex might have to correct me but i believe the ap4 rom together with the spl upgrade will give u a hardspl'ed and custom rom run'in x7510.

I thought this process was leading to some bricked 7510s, hence the request for a new subforum...
Plus, are the drivers for the flash drive in there?

Anyone Interested in a "NIKI100 20Key" or for spare parts or for Developing?

Anyone Interested in a "NIKI100 20Key" or for spare parts or for Developing?
I have a HTC Touch Dual 20 Key (NIKI100) that would be great for a ROM chef or developers to toy with or as spare parts.
I have the original box and accessories as well as a desktop cradle that I will package everything in. It is in working and flashable condition other than the one noted problem below. Bluetooth, camera, audio, buttons all work, just the audio bug which I believe is hardware based.
The device works great other than a call problem that is hardware related.
Detail on Problem: When in a call randomly the listener on the other end will hear a buzzing or humming sound and not the caller, but everything sounds normal on the device. To fix it while in a call you have to open and close the screen a couple of times. I beleive its a loose part in the screen.
Physical Condition: There is some minor wear and tear to the device and a small chip/indentation on the front of the bezel from handling over the last year but the screen is in a near mint condition because it has always had a screen protector. Other than the noted call problem, the device works great and I have flashed many ROMs to this device and it currently has a Lily Rom on it. It is not in a bricked condition and is ready for someone to play around with it or use it for spare parts like a screen or keyboard change.
How Much?
I will let the device go for $75 to the first person to post their interest in the device. This is not a bid, so the first interested person gets it, I just want to get it off my hands. I will include free shipping within the United States with all the accessories, box and liturature. For xda's outside the United States shipping will be additional and I will have to figure that out seperately. I will send a Paypal invoice to the specified email address and payment can be made that way for security reasons.

If this post is not allowed, I appologize and please feel free to remove it and direct me accordingly.
What about me?
I have unfortunately moved on from windows mobile until WM7. I am currently on the Android platform for now, but you can find me in the Dream forum on xda if you want to find me.
Feel free to ask any questions if you are unsure.
Thanks,

[REQ] Personal Dosimetry App - Help Writing

EDIT: I've now saved up $400 for the person who can help me get this running. PM me if you're interested.
I'm finishing up my bachelors degree in electrical engineering. My senior design project is to build a ionizing radiation detector from solid-state parts. The hardware is coming along well. What we would love to do is write an Android app to track/record/manipulate the data output by the sensor (via USB port preferably). Long term, I'm thinking the circuitry is embedded a phone case (like PowerSkins, except circuitry instead of a battery) and you plop your phone in, plug in the USB connector, and boom, you have personal and mobile dosimetry at a FRACTION of the cost of what is currently available (see Siemens Dosimeters-$1,000+ and then proprietary software costs). My project partner and I are crap at java programming *read-ALL programming*.
If anyone is interested in taking on something like this or knows someone who might be PLEASE PM ME. The deadline is coming up (mid-Feb), and while the software would be considered beyond the scope/requirements of the project it would really make it great.
Anything helps, even if someone wants to give as a shell of the code we could start with that would be greatly appreciated!
I should be starting another part-time job this month and would be happy to make a donation to anyone willing to help out.
Thanks.
Mark.

Moving to Q&A
That's quite an interesting design project you've got there.
My programming skills are quite lacking as well, so I unfortunately cannot help you directly.
Just one comment though; if you're going to be interfacing with an Android phone with an external accessory, I think you may need something like this: http://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/ArduinoBoardADK to handle communications between the phone and your sensor. Another option would be to use bluetooth as an interface.
Good luck with your project!

Thanks for the input. Ya, we're going to need something like that for sure. We're acctually planning on sending accociated energies with each event (in eV).

Security question.

How would you know if someone cooked a back door into their ROM. A back door that would allow them to monitor a phone's contents remotely. A phone that's running their ROM of course.

Normally this can happen only with vendor's signed rom. Only vendors do this sometimes. Examples: Conflipper, 911sniper and recently some other guys. Vendor was naturally HTC.
They all uploaded a lot of official roms to the private host, HTC investigated the case, found the possible leak source and framed them leaking the rom with backdoor. Thus vendor got personal data and later ganged up on them threatening prosecution.
So if you want to be 100% sure that you have back-door-free rom - cook custom Because chiefs don't give a $hit about your personal data, vendor - does!
P.S. And of course:
Remember, just because you're paranoid that doesn't mean that everyone's not out to get you!
than use only the shipt roms from factory , i have used many custum roms and never a problem now i use dynamics 2.0 and he is perfect.

Now without irony.
Of course, you can never be sure. But:
1) XDA-developers is a community of enthusiasts. If we were to steal anything, we could do it long ago. But, in that case, any other developer can reveal the truth about ROM internals and totally ruin reputation of that developer.
While reputation is just an "integer" value stored somewhere in XDA databases and people's minds, maintaining good "karma" in internet is still much more useful IRL (I guess many devs here can confirm it).
It is a pure hobby for almost everyone. Most of us have work, studies, lots of other things to do.
2) Windows Phone isn't really interesting for majority of "evil" hackers. It is a niche platform currently. It is nearly impossible to earn donations or get money any other way on this platform via development. Thus, I am quite sure all developers still keeping this platform alive are real enthusiasts without any criminal thoughts in minds.
3) Low interest leads to small amount of developers, lack of manuals, etc. Even "evil hackers" have to learn _how_ to do harm on specific platform. WP7 unofficial development has a big entry barrier, effectively filtering even power users.
You can ask what are the reasons most of us still work on this platform? Each software engineer loves when his code _works_, and WP7 limitations is better in this case. Because relatively small amount of native code works "out of the box" - I mean, without hours in debugger, decompiler, eyes red due to display backlight, nights spent in code

Great comments all around. I'm not a paranoid person. But I couldn't help wondering. I have faith in the community all around, like you said. Accountability doesn't lead to deviousness, it leads to integrity. I've heard that the Android is the hacker phone of choice. Or maybe I was misled in my naivete'. One of the things that I noted in my toying with the xda apps, the root tools tell you to be careful about allowing all of your apps. It's big fun watching what you guys crank out. keep up the good work, and if there is threat out there- crank out some apps for it.:highfive:

Gauging interest in restarting development on the Nexus Q [7.X.X.]

I've been trying to get this device how I wanted it to be ever since I beta tested it, but due to life, law school, and marriage, I have been noticeably absent from the dev community lately. For that I apologize.
As I am concluding my legal studies, I have began revisiting some of my old broken-ish but bootable code from my Lollipop build, and am considering, if enough people are still using this thing, to try and build Nougat.
The chipset is identical to the Galaxy Nexus, as I am sure most people know at this point, and wollac has did one helluva job putting in the work to form a solid base to build upon. Admittedly, this is going to be a moderately-difficult project, bordering on a labor of nostalgia, but if there is enough interest, I will get to work so we can keep using this obsolete bowling ball for another year or two. I still use the KitKat build as an amp and NES emulator.
Let me know what you guys think.
-JM
I'm definitely interested, I would love to be able to use my Q with the original LED functionality
+1 on the LED functionality, but I fear that there aren't many in circulation anymore... Mine is gathering dust underneath the TV, a chromecast does its intended functionality much better :/
I just bought one, and I'm not sure how I can even use it at this point. Are you still considering development of something for the q?
I still have mine literally sitting there until something comes along. I would welcome any development on the Q!
I'll echo the others... I have mine sitting the corner of my office, under the printer waiting and hoping for it to be usable one day. I unfortunately bought mine right after they pulled the plug, not know about it so it has never actually worked! I really just hope to be able see the LEDs and stream music to it, even if just through chromecast. I heard it had a great amp and I have some old quality speakers laying around somewhere.
I'm interested as well. I'd love to be able to use it as a chromecast audio, or something similar. Personally, I'd prefer to be able to use it without a display.
does anyone know how to get the Nexus Q software? Got one without the manuals or software
I am interested. What would be the goal though?
There has to be a limited amount of these in existence and it would be neat to be able to use it for something useful.
Is a Chromecast type device reasonable? I'd use it in my office just as a novelty.
I would love something newer than the 4.4 build on this forum currently, and get some use out of this dustcollector. Personally i would like to just get the amp working, any other functionality I really dont care too much about.
Anything Lollipop or better would be great. I use the Google ADT-1 with stock Lollipop and really like it. Works fine for me. Maybe Kit Kat could be OK but I'm not sure.
I am interested. How do I get started?
I'll give this a +1
I still got mine and been thinking what to do with it... any new development i wouldnt mind trying.
I am interested in the restart as well
I have two and would love to use them.
Hi. I interested in Android 7. Youtube and youtube Music still working on Android 7, so i can build media-center on Q with android 6+.
