is it possible for O2 Atom to change from 802.11 B to *802.11 G ? please anyone can help me with this one ? please please .. .thanks
802.11b to 802.11g
It is hardware issue so you can not change it but do not wory about. 802.11b will be enough. You will not understand the difference.
Regards
Boss ... Although My work place have Wifi build in ... but i cant access it ... The network they are using is 802.11 B/G .... so was wondering if it's possible to to change my Atom's 802.11B to G ... then thing about my work place is ... i cant even find the network using my Atom ... >.<
Maybe your workplace's Wi-Fi Access Point is set to 802.11G mode only? You can ask the network administrator who set up the access point to check it up, if it's set to auto b + g mode, then your atom will be able to connect, no doubt..
i cant change which network they wanna set ... so i can only change my phone to 802.11G if possible ... that's the problem =D

Hey Cupid,
Add these two key into your registry and then soft-reset :
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS: dot11SupportedRateMask=1
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\COMM\TNETWLN1\PARMS: dot11SupportedRateMaskG=8
You can read more here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=38898
Tried that on Ipaq rw6828 and I can connect to my wireless router set to Wifi G (WPA protected).
hi eastmushu,
I have tried the method u suggested, but it doesn't seems to work on my 6828. Can you verify your findings again? thanks
Hi Kush,
What I did or rather what I found out was you have to perfrom two soft resets before it will work... Don't know why but have noticed it on two different 6828s...
After that was able to log into Pocket Messenger and IE...
Some Problems I have with this 'hack' are
1 - if the hardware is 802.11b only it will NEVER do G no matter what, software
cant change it.
Doing some research it looks like the value
dot11SupportedRateMask
defines the Desired Supported Rate Set
with the possible values of
"0",,"1,2 Mbps"
"1",,"1,2,5.5,11 Mbps"
"2",,"1,2,5.5,11,22 Mbps"
"3",,"Up to 18Mbps"
"4",,"Up to 24Mbps"
"5",,"Up to 36Mbps"
"6",,"Up to 48Mbps"
"7",,"Up to 54Mbps"
"8",,"All"
So I assume
dot11SupportedRateMask=1 is setting B speeds to 11mpbs
and
dot11SupportedRateMaskG=8 is saying 802.11G can do all speeds.
None of this however says anything about activating 802.11g on B devices.
Perhaps simply defining the parameters for G speeds enables G hardware to use
it.. perhaps not..
The second issue with the Atom is the Hardware
The registry settings for my atom's wireless chip are
HKLM\Comm\CF8381PN1
Not TNETWLN1 so for a start any atom users would need to modify key values
relative to their own hardware.
For what it is worth I will try this and post back..
And the results are in.. Did not work, made no difference at all.
Can not connect to a 'G' only network (can see it as available.. can't connect)..
Can connect to a mixed mode network with these keys but performance
was unchanged in otherwords it really did nothing.
WIFI ....../B change to......./G
U can change into wifii 802...../G by using SK tools/tune up/. I already changed it......
where I can get it.. sir..
Hello every one ,
Right so now that my SX 56 has been fixed and upgraded to WM 2003,i've got one question:
Is it compatible with those wireless wifi SD cards?
or is the model to old?
many thanx geniouses !!
No, you need an SDIO slot which these handsets don't have. Sorry.
Check this out then, i don't understand, according to this site it is compatible! http://www.pdassistant.net/Siemens/SX56.htm
"Siemens SX56 GPS capable PDA"
judging from this too then most likely they got it a bit wrong
dutr it's gps capable but only if you get an wired external
gps dongle which well does everything gpsWise and send info
over the serial port
in which case many many things are GPS capable
my old 486 pc in the attic too it have a comport too
ok so if i got it right , the update from WM2002 to WM2003 FINAL was useless if i can't use the network card option in the connections menu.
i 'm just trying to find a way to connect to the wireless internet!!
with wallaby the only have to connect it using usb to a pc which have wifi
and access it's wifi using activesync

The wallaby has no WiFi hardware. Nor can you use an SDIO WiFi card, the hardware simply does not support SDIO devices. You can use GPRS, the datacable or infrared (wouldn't recommend this since you'd have to maintain constant line of site).
So how do i do this with GPRS then cause i can 't seem to get internet explorer
recognise any WAP or WEB pages , even thought i 've got the right settings,
many thanks
I have tested diferent wm 6.1 versions with radio 1.57 and I am having some strange problems with communications (seventime lotus notes push mail) due problems with the radio and on the other side the symbol of the communication type Gprs (G, 3G, HSDPA) only appears times. I think is due the band selection. I have been trying to change from Auto to the other option but no way, time it words (symbol and comunication when on gprs) and times not.
I think is due rom-radio are not really designed for Europe networks.
Does anybody found a solution?
You already tried AP4 and 5 beta. Network Wizard from this ROM is the best.
I found the AP rom give me better band switching than others.
Maybe problem is in radio 1.57 and not rom issue.
What about using radio 1.50 ?
is there any way to pick up a wifi signal on my gene which only has bluetooth... like is it possible with some sort of program that I can load? because i have a wireless network at home and wanted to be able to use my gene to get internet via this network..... but everytime i try searching for the router via bluetooth it doesn't get detected... so im hoping there is some program i can load to detect the network and use it....
Not possible, because the protocol as well as hardware requirement are entirely different, however you can use a sd to wifi card.
BTW wrong section, it should be posted on Gene General section.

From your screen shots it looks like the wifi is not detecting the encryption method used by the hotspot this could be because it is using a method not supported by your device (wpa2psk) have you tested on a wep or wpa2 also if you have tried many ROMs and still end up with the same problem then this tells you the problem is Yours as i know wifi works on Touchflo 3D look II i was using this ROM on a daily bases to get emails weather ect..
HTC prophet can't support wpa2psk and i know there is a patched driver floating around this forum but it causes Outlook and IE to crash so that's no good to use ,ask the provider to give a backward compatible channel wpa2 not psk .
May be someone else can give a better solution to your problem but i would say you need to find a solution your end with Hotspot or test some third party connection applications like wifi monster see if that helps
i use WM6.5.3_28014_bikertib and is ok
Guys the Roms is not the problem its ether her Device have hardware problems are her access point dont support the prophet and like a next user said the access point seems to support a encryption not supported on our devices example Wpa also if the access point is urs then try to disable the security on it and see if it connects if it does then the problem was the data encryption on the access point not your device
Sorry, I think we had different problems. My wifi was not detecting available netwoks and I found a weird solution (but working). Maybe this helps (can't post complete links, delete spaces):
