Need Help with Slingplayer Mobile and X7501 - Advantage X7500, MDA Ameo Upgrading

My Slingplayer stopped working on my X7501 a few months back. I get an error message saying, "cannot connect, check your connection settings". All the HTC, AT&T, and Slingmedia peeps can't put my Slingplayer back together again.
I've tried reloading new and old versions to only get it to work for a few minutes. After that it's back to the same error message. The X7501 is now off Sling's compatible list too. Any advice is appreciated and by the way Slingplayer mobile is working on my other phones just fine.

Maybe the proxy?
Just a wag here, but I had a problem that recently started when connecting to Sirius through AT&T's MediaNet using Addie, my X7501. I could connect fine using my home network over wifi, so I figured it was something with AT&T. I found that the AT&T proxy was turned on, so I turned it off as a test. Whew, that allowed me to connect to Sirius fine with MediaNet, and it hasn't impacted anything else I've tried to use on the 'Net (such as Resco Radio, di.fm mobile, YouTube streaming). Maybe AT&T changed their proxy configs or something.....

I agree and this is what I did.
settings/connections/connections then edit your existing connection , then proxy settings and UNCHECK the second option that wants you to use internet via proxy server. (This should work on the HTC Fuze,Diamond, and Touch Pro/Rapheal too) Most likely a windows mobile 6 thing, IMO.
Now it works fine! Funny the people that make these products can't tell you how to fix them to work. Thanks to all the brilliant minds here, some of us can enjoy these things w/o headaches.

Working: Hermes + Mac 10.4.8 + AKU 3.3 + USB + MissingSync = Internet!

OK. Like a lot of people, I was horrified to discover that my Mac could no longer use my Hermes' bluetooth connection (DUN) after I upgraded to AKU 3.3. Microsoft lovingly removed DUN and added PAN, which MacOS doesn't support yet (rumors are that 10.4.9 or 10.5.0 will).
So I suddenly was left without a way to connect to the 'net using my phone and my MacBook Pro.
Plugging it up USB didn't do anything -- the Mac had no idea what the phone was, and didn't know how to use it for anything.
Enter MarkSpace MissingSync. I installed the latest version (3.0.1) on my Mac, and plugged in my phone to sync it up. By chance, I ran an 'ifconfig -a' in a terminal window, and noticed this:
Code:
en2: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500
ether 80:00:60:0f:e8:00
media: 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex> status: active
supported media: 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex>
So MissingSync is establishing a connection using a faked IP address. OK. Interesting. So I unplug the phone, and go into the all new "Internet Sharing" app on my phone, set it to USB and turned it to connect. I plug my phone back in, and MissingSync tries to start up (and fails). But the IP (en2) is still there. I turn off my Airport (wireless) connection, make sure Bluetooth is disabled (to make sure).. and do a netstat -rn, and lo and behold, my Mac has suddenly taken on my phone as a default gateway.
Code:
Destination Gateway Flags Refs Use Netif Expire
default 192.168.0.1 UGSc 9 40 en2
127 127.0.0.1 UCS 0 0 lo0
And... I'm on the 'net. I didn't have to create any connections, I didn't have to add any routes manually. Nothing. It just worked. (Yeah, I'm amazed, too).
Everything works. DNS, SlingPlayer, Entourage w/ Exchange.
I'm getting around 900/kbps down, 600/kbps up on Cingular/AT&T. Of course I live about 2 miles from Cingular HQ, so that's probably to be expected..
In MissingSync, turn *off* USB syncing, and it won't throw as many errors -- just sync via Bluetooth, but the drivers are still there, so it still comes up with an IP address and pseudo-ethernet device.
MarkSpace needs to market this. Awesome. It's not as convenient as bluetooth, but it's a lot faster, and you have the added benefit of charging your phone at the same time.
oh.. and one more thing... you can still use your phone for voice phone calls (when you're on 3G), and data. It works just like your're not plugged into it. And you can use a bluetooth headset with your phone while you're connected.
edited: make sure "use advanced usb networking" is turned OFF in the Settings>Connections page on your phone.
Wow, just tried this myself on cingular as well, 150k/sec down and 90k/sec up using EDGE. Extremely easy as well, just kinda works by itself if you have MissingSync installed. Posting using my TYTN right now actually.
I'm on the medianet unlimited plan so I connect through wap.cingular. Will I get hit for any additional data charges for tethering?

Very doubtful, although I don't know for sure. My phone is set to use MediaNET, and uses wap.cingular. I have PDA Unlimited Connect. From all appearances on Cingular's billing page, a notebook hooking into your phone via this method just looks like ordinary phone data to Cingular.
Now... I wouldn't use this as a primary internet connection. I'd bet if you put several gigs through the phone, they're going to get suspicious.
I actually use around 4-5 gigs a month normally (just with ActiveSync polling for mail and normal use), and they've never said anything to me.. so.. who knows.
Unfortunately, it's so difficult to get info from Cingular/AT&T these days (I'm still trying to get my [email protected] to work)..
My billing cycle is up in 7 days -- I will post back here if I see any different charges on my bill.
If this works, I'm going to hump your leg.
wow, works. time to start humping. i love you. please, bear my children.
btw, definitely worth adding to the wiki.
I am assuming that disabling the connection in Internet Sharing restores Missing Sync's normal (supported sync) functionality? Great pick-up. I already have Missing Sync and my 8525 will be here on Wednesday. Thanks.
Damn, I can't afford Missing Sync
Oh well, I bought it anyway. I'd already played with version 2.5 so I knew it was starting to get good. I can make use of some of the other features, (like importing my cameraphone snaps into iPhoto) but this internet sharing feature is why I bought it. And it works just as you said:
1) Run "Internet Sharing" on the phone with 'PC Connection' set to USB.
2) Plug into the Mac.
In fact "Missing Sync for Windows Mobile" shows up as a network interface in System Preferences / Network, too.
This is actually a lot nicer that the old way I used to do it. Before AKU 3.3 and Missing Sync 3 I was getting Internet access on my iBook over Bluetooth using Internet Connect and a lot of faffing around with modem scripts. I eventually found one that worked.. .but I always had to 'dial' 3 times before it connected and it took about 2 minutes to get a connection.
Now I can just plug in and go ... and my phone doesn't need a separate power supply to keep me connected all day. ** very happy **
(Yes, they should really advertise this!)
i'd really like my hermes to work on my Linux box, since I use it as my main system over XP.. i read a few articles regarding this, and it turns out the older version of synce worked on most HTC devices.. but for some odd reason the new ones dont seem to.. someone did mention that WM5 devices weren't supported for now.. the older WM2003 does tho..
if it makes any difference, I'm on Ubuntu Linux 6.10 32bit version..
any help is appreciated..

I followed the (lenghty) instructions on the synce site, and it works for me with my TyTN. I have not set up contact syncing, but I can browse/copy/run stuff from my Ubuntu 6.10 installations on my TyTN.
i'll give it another shot.. thanks for the confirmation..

MDA Compact III
What version of Missing Sync are you using? It's working for me using version 3.01
It's 3.0.0 (315) and it reports as the latest.
Well that's clearly not true I suggest you download the new version from the site (I only got this a few days ago).
Upgraded to the 3.0.1 (downloaded from the site). The client on the phone upgraded as well. Still nothing. On the sync mode there is en2 connection (with orange status) in the network preferences. When I activate the sharing mode it disappears. Checked in terminal as well.
And you're *definitely* using AKU 3.3 on the phone?

I'm sure it's 3.x but may not be 3.3. How do I check this?
So, can it use bluetooth to link up my Hermes (AKU 3.3) and connect to the internet from my macbook thru the Hermes??

I don't believe so, I've only tried using the "USB" setting. Besides, the phone gets power through the USB cable and more bandwidth. There is no advantage to using Bluetooth except not needing a cable!

Internet Sharing Wifi Data?

Is it possible to use ICS with wifi connection instead of cellular connection? Would be useful for a makeshift wireless adapter if your regular NIC or wireless NIC fails.
It seems that even if I have a wifi connection already going and then I launch ICS and connect, it still tries to dial out and use the cellular connection. You would think if it can share cellular data it could share wifi data just as easily but maybe im missing something.
Back in the early days of WiFi internet sharing the private interface was changed to WiFi with a manual registry edit. It might be possible to change the public interface to USB instead of defaulting too the cellular radio. It would probably take a fair amount of troubleshooting, but I'd think it would be possible. I think the entries were at HKLM\Comm\ConnectionSharing. Might be a starting point...
Search for WMWifiRouter
WiFiRouter
WiFiRouter works by making your ppc into a virtual access point. Then you can share the internet through it.
Last time I looked however, the author had withdrawn the program from circulation at version 0.91. There must be some problems with it because the author indicated that he would release a new version once he ironed out some bugs. If it is not back in distribution yet, you might be still able to find it on a torrent site. If not, PM me and I will send you the cab. Some of the cab collections at ppcgeeks ftp have it inside too. One good collection to check is Alex's.
I have used it and it works.

wmwifirouter is not what he's looking for. That is still using your phones internet. He wants to see how he could use the phone as a Network card, using the wifi connection, as oppossed to the sprintpcs connection.
I too would be very interested in this happening, if anyone knows of a way please tell.
ok, but why ??
Why would you actually want to do this anyway ??? I will look into it but it makes no sense when a USB WiFi dongle is $30 or so and does not run your phone down to use it, why would you want to use your phone as a very expensive USB WiFi card ??? Maybe I am missing some golden benefit ????
I dont get it either, but he did say in an emergency if your wifi went out.
Thank you for the responses.
Yes, it would be useful if your wireless nic went out (or regular nic for that matter) just to have something to use for the moment. Or maybe you brought your computer to a friends house and hes out of ports or you dont want to run 50ft cable to his kitchen table
But the titan has wireless, it has internet sharing, why doesnt the wireless show up in the list of available networks? I'm not saying its an all important feature but it would be yet another cool thing your phone could do.
i looking to use my mogul as a wifi access point (sharing Spint Vision thru wifi)
i tryed the procedure to mod the registry to enable it but i cant get it to work.
anyone know the exact procedure for the mogul
btw i also checked out WMWifiRouter...looks like it's no longer free
I also wanna know
Look the idea is simple. So where is the phone ICS telling it to use the celluar line and not allowing the option of the wifi?
Pls any one contact me. Its a cool feature for a phone

I bought software called Walking Hotspot, which essentially turns my Mogul/Titan into something like a Mifi, sharing my cellular data with my laptop. Otherwise known as tethering.
I only use it for emergencies because I am not sure if Sprint can tell that I am tethering. I believe if Sprint detects unauthorized tethering they will charge 4 cents per kilobyte of data .. which is very harsh!

Remote Desktop Woes

I am seriously frustrated here:
I have an Ameo 16 GB (T-Mobile UK) and for the 1st couple of weeks remote desktop was working fine, then suddenly it stopped working.
I thought I broke the settings somewhere, so I double-checked everything. The T-Mobile Ameo comes with the default T-Mobile Internet connection pre-configured. It actually states "This connection is pre-configured. It cannot be modified."
The default settings are programs that auto connect to the Net should connect using the default T-Mobile Internet connection, and programs that auto-connect to a private network should use "My Work Network".
"My Work Network" has no values set anywhere.
Normal Internet access is fine in either IE or Opera (branded by T-Mobile as Web'n'Walk).
I have changed so programs that auto-connect to private network use T-Mobile Internet connection, same result as before.
I have set up a custom Internet connection for "My Work Network" using "general.t-mobile.uk" as access point, "user" as username, "pass" as password and domain left blank. I can connect to the Internet with these settings, but not via Remote Desktop.
Sometimes, normally after having re-booted the Amea and manually connected to "My Work Network" (as per settings above) I can connect, but it drops the connection while I'm still typing in username and password.
Normally I get either of these error messages when trying to connect via Remote Desktop:
"Cannot connect. Likely reasons are:
1) Specified computer name or ip does not exist.
2) A network error occurred while establishing the connection"
or
"Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap Settings".
I have cleared storage memory on the Ameo five times. I have phoned T-Mobile tech support who basically told me to sod off - apparently as long as the device can browse the Net they've done their job!
I have had T-Mobile replace the device and this morning I received a brand-spanking-new Ameo. I fired it up, let it go through the customisations, and reboot, then I tried Remote Desktop without changing anything or installing anything. And I got the same as above!!!!!
Please, guys, I'm desperate! Any help is very welcome here! I do network support for a living and I got the Ameo because I can fit a server's entire screen in and have a seperate keyboard. Except now I can't use it!
I used to have a Universal, which I sold to help finance the Ameo, so I'm truly stuck!
Oh how I wish I could unlock the damn thing and flash a better ROM to it!
Just as an update, yes, I've tried using "My ISP" as well, with the same results. And yes, everything's just peachy on the servers I need to connect to - I can connect to those servers using other devices.
And no, using Logmein is NOT an option and please don't even mention any form of VNC - you have to be seriously foolish to run VNC on a server, you might as well pay for some banner ads that say "Come hack me!"
Please don't give me advice on setting up routers, or Remote Desktop on 2000 Server, Server 2003 or Server 2008. I can do those quite well.
What I cannot do is get my damn Ameo to connect and stay connected and I'm absolutely desperate for help there!
the same
my ameo on t-mobile has done same thing, stopped working about 2 weeks ago, was working fine till then, only reason i bought the damn thing (anmd yes, i too ebayed my exec, i regretting it
so anyone out there got any ideas? i have same problem using ICS so i am guessing either a network etting on the phone, or some idiot at t has closed rdp traffic (tried chanmging a port number to 80 on a test box behind my router, still no go)
What is the operating system on the target pc first off. as i had that problem with a hack fix on vista home premium
all i had to do was to re-apply the fix.
as far as remote desktop the Ameo 8gb model ( x7500) didn't have rdp on it so i used one of the ones from this forum but under another section ( i think it was networking but do s earch to find them )
needless to say mine has never stopped working
a good test is try it from your local wireless home network if it's a home pc, and if ti works then look at the forwards on your router, make sure 3398 is still forwarding to YOUR pc and that your pc still has the same IP.
if you have a static ip and no router. always check your firewall settings.
as far as other possibles if your internet is working and all other data connections then there's no reason it SHOULDN'T work as t-mobile do not filter out 3389 port.
it has to be a problem at the target machine or network in that case.
but feel free to tell us more about the target pc and how it's connected to the internet and maybe we can find a solution
also what RDP client are you using on your Ameo
Cyberjak, the target machines vary: Server 2003 Enterprise Edition running ISA Server 2006, and Server 2008.
RRAS is installed on the non-ISA servers, while ISA of course takes over where RRAS left off. In all cases ports 3389 (TC{P & UDP) is open for inbound access, and on the ISA box it is open for in and outbound access.
Had you read what I wrote in my second post you would have seen I need no help in setting up RDP. I build, support and maintain networks for a living and trust me when I say the issue is NOT with the remote servers, but with the Ameo! I can use a collegue's O2 Touch Diamond and connect to any of the servers, but not the Ameo 16 GB.
I'm using a default T-Mobile Windows Mobile 6.1 setup as my Ameo has never been unlocked or flashed, and I'm using the stock standard Remote Desktop client that came pre-loaded and that used to work.
The issue is either with the Ameo, or with T-Mobile blocking RDP.

Why can't you do this? Is your phone owned by the company and they would frown if you modified it? AP4 includes Remote Desktop Mobile, so you might try that ROM if you do unlock.
My device is a 7510 and Olipro's unlocker doesn't work on it. I have been explicitly told that the unlocker might brick it
Hallelujah! The age of miracles is upon us!
I've put in a complaint to T-Mobile, and out of the blue Remote Desktop started working, while I also received an e-mail from T-Mobile's tech support.
Here's an extract from the e-mail:

I will give T-Mobile a ring today and see, I guessed it would be t-mobile as I ave a whole range of different RDP servers I connect to and none worked!
lol, T-Mobile took all of about 2 minutes to enable my RDP again, told them I knew it was there prob as I read on XDA-Developers, got to love the internet nice one NanoRuler

Just realised what T-Mobile said in their e-mail "I have came across someone else with this problem" - was that you? That WOULD be funny!
Way I look at it if we don't stick together we'll get shafted by big corporations!
Used to know a guy who had something printed on the reverse of some of his business cards. It read "Doing business with your firm is like having sex: it gives one a feeling of warm bliss.....while being screwed!"
Thanks to T-Mobile I know what that feels like! Having said that I'll also categorically state the last guy I dealt with at T-Mobile knows his stuff and was very helpful.
Curious, it does lead to believe something about the ports being like group policy's that they use as the voice over ip ports only are open for WnW Max customers usually unless you scream at them after being with them for a long time. heheh
Nano, no offence mate but i've been doing similar work for years as well but it's sometimes the simple things so you can understand me asking.
you would ask a client the same thing.

A possible solution for those of us on T-Mobile's standard web n walk
Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I thought I'd post my experiences here in case anyone else (like me) searches for a solution to enabling RDP on T-Mobile (UK at least).
I was having the same problem with remote desktop, it saying that the server was not available. I phoned up T-Mobile's helpdesk as recommended here and after getting past first line support (who didn't know what remote desktop was, and tried sending new connection settings to my phone to resolve the issue) I got through to someone who knew what they were talking about. Turns out that I'm on T-Mobile's "basic" or "handset-only" web-n-walk package, and it's not possible to use RDP on this. I assume they block the relevant ports. They told me that I could pay an extra fiver a month to upgrade to a version of web-n-walk which can handle RDP.
Well I told them I would think about it, but instead tried to find a way around it as the one or two times I need to use RDP are certainly not worth a fiver a month. My solution is probably only suitable for the more techy of us, but without much work and with no prior experience I managed to set up a SSH tunnel using FreeSSHd as a server running on my windows server (although a normal windows box should work fine - http://www.freesshd.com/) and zaTunnel as a client on my phone (http://www.zatelnet.com/zatunnel/main.php). Both programs are free.
Basically my phone takes all RDP connections and tunnels them over SSH to my windows server, which then turns them back into RDP connections. T-Mobile have no idea I'm using RDP, and if they block the SSH port in the future I can always change FreeSSHd to run on port 80 (for web). This will also work for other protocols T-Mobile might be blocking (FTP springs to mind).
Just thought I'd post this in case anyone was in my situation of needing RDP on their standard web'n'walk.
Cool! Thanks for posting your rather excellent work-around! I will certainly be referring people back to your solution.
I think T-Mobile's out of order for not allowing RDP on all plans, without absolutely clearly stating that on some plans it isn't allowed.
You're the customer and you pay for some bandwidth. Short of illegal activities, what you use that bandwidth for is none of their business.
T-Mobile Grrrr
Many Thanks for this thread.
My Remote Desktop stopped working on my phone last month but co-incidently it was around the time I was re-intsalling my server and also flashing numerous roms to my phone so thought it maybe something with that.
But then realised I could remote desktop over my wireless at home and from other networks across the net so it wasn't anything to do with config on my side. Thought either phone or network.
Flashed a rom with remote desktop that i KNEW worked and still nothing...
Thought - this MUST be T-Mobile... glad I'm not the only one.
Have sent an email and hopefully they'll enable Remote Desktop on my line.
There is no way I'm gonna start paying an extra £5 a month for something I've been using for the last 20 months as part of my package and have removed wihtout any notice/warning.
i'll tell 'em where to shove their £5 extra a month

Bluetooth Pan on Verizon XV6800 & Leopard Mac

Hey all,
So I've got a small issue. I've got a Verizon XV6800 with the MR1 Rom WM6.1, Valhalla GPS server, 3.42.50 Radio.
Internet connection sharing is not working at this point. I've gone through the winmodem and internet connection sharing cab installs, registry edits, etc. None seem to help.
I previously had a ATT tilt 8925 and had no issues whatsoever tethering it to my mac by just pairing the phone, selecting to "Using a direct Higher speed connection to reach your ISP". Starting Internet Sharing on the phone, selecting Bluetooth PAN & the default data connection, then selecting connect. Then selecting "Connect to network" On the mac through the my phone listed in the bluetooth connections. That simple.
Having installed the "Internet Sharing" cab onto the phone. Internet sharing appears to work, but the phone does not advertise this service, like the ATT tilt did on ATT's network.
I've also tried a few registry edits, and used all variations of modem scripts, and got all the dialup info from verizon directly (so I know it was right ) but could not get dialup to work either. Usually not detecting a carrier, other times lockups.
I truely want to get the bluetooth-PAN working again as it did on my tilt. Anyone have this working on the MAc with a XV6800 on verizon?
i did have it working before. I'm wondering if you might be more successful with a custom rom. Verizon installs software (at least previous roms, I haven't tested the MR1 rom) that reverts reg edits and keeps it working like VzW wants it to. This could be causing problems. First check after a soft-reset to make sure your reg edits still exist.
Also I'm sure you've tried this be in Leopard's bluetooth setup delete the phone and try again. You need to select the type of device as any device in order for leopard to see it. Can you connect the device to your mac? Try that first. If you get a BT connection non-internet connection and you change your settings delete the phone and try again. I forget some of the setting I used. Also Engadget had a how to article for BT pan using the xv6700 and Tiger most of the information is still useful. It's a couple years old so you might have a hard time finding it.
Hope some of that helps.

As mentioned, I have tried a ton of different methods to try and use the data connection, from using dialup settings, to trying to get the Bluetooth Pan working. I've removed and re-paired the device from my mac, flashed roms, hacked away at the registry a ton of times. Nothing seems to give so far.
I've got one more suggestion, found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=1794133&postcount=29
I'm going to give this a shot tomorrow and will let you know how it goes.

Hey all,
So I've got a small issue.

You can use the link from the previous post here, and just copy the dll's and exe to the Windows directory, and place teh shortcut into the Device\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\ directory.

hey, ok great, i just downloaded the file, Just one question..
The file i downloaded has about a page of Reg Key changes, you didnt mention that in your "thngs to do"
Just want to see if i am to make all those changes or not.
thanks
So, your problem is in getting the internet connection to work and not connecting it to the mac, right? Does your mac recognize the phone as a modem?
If you're using MR1 I think you might need to hard reset and the soft reset right before the Verizon customizations run. You won't be able to run their apps but there won't be software to cripple the phone.
i have the same exact issue i have a new macbook pro and the bluetooth connects however the speed is slower then dial up it works perfectly however on bootcamp apple has to change the drivers
So more results.
I tried all the registry edits, (much easier with CD-Regedit so you can make the changes on your desktop) and now internet sharing does not even allow me to select a connection type, it had worked previously.
The only thing that was missing before I made the registry changes was that when I pair the phone, in the services listed, "Network Access Point" is not one of the listed services. My old phone has this service listed, and this is how I used it, where I started internet sharing on the phone, then selected the bluetooth device (phone) on the mac and selected: "Connect to Network) and it worked flawless.
Back to the drawing board. I'm going to try next to re-flash the MR1 rom and do as Cycomachead suggested and stop verizons customizations from happening.
bryanw17, what were the exact settings you used for dialup on the mac. The modem script used is probably the most important piece.
Number: #777
Username: Phonenumber (or [email protected]????)
Password: (We know this one, not sure if it's legal to post though)
Darn, I wish I could provide more help. It is indeed possible in Leopard, I had it going before I began flashing my phone - and I no longer have a data plan to test, otherwise I'd be using it a lot more!
aparently no one with a new macbook pro can get bluetooth pan to work. I have it connected however the drivers for the new macbook pro do not provide a good connection if you search the mac forums theyve been talking about it on there. I dont use a username n password however because i use the internet sharing app for the moment i am using wmwifirouter to connect online however my xv6800 doesnt charge at the same time for some reason so u can only use it till the battery dies
So some more results.
I installed ICS and all the registry edits. Then the internet Connection Sharing did not function at all. I verified the registry settings, all were fine. So no dice with me.
So back to the drawing board.
I installed a previous rom. DCD 3.2.6, and guess what? From initial flash of the phone and initial setup, no apps installed, no hacking, ICS runs and provides a network connection to my mac perfect. I also instantly notice when I pair it through bluetooth, it allows the option of "Access this device as a network port". And "Network Access point" is listed as an offered service.
I installed newer rom DCD 3.3.4, and the MR1 Rom. Neither have ICS installed initially. I can install the two files: intshare.dll and IntShrUI.exe into the windows directory without any reg edits, and then ICS works on the phone, but then pairing the phone to the Mac, and attempting to discover teh PAN service is unsuccessful. It only is discovered as a Dialup Access device, and not a "Network Access Point".
So, It appears I can get internet Sharing via Bluetooth PAN to function on the phone no matter which rom, but have not figure out how to tell the mac, or trick the mac, into thinking the "Network Access Point" service is available.
I have pulled completed registry dumps with CE-Regedit and compared the differences between the two, which there are quite a few, but not sure how to export these differences with the program so I can apply them to the other roms registry. I guess I might try a fukll backup and then restore to the new(er) rom and cross my fingers.
I'd stay with the 3.2.6 rom. and 3.42.50 Radio, with PRI 2.03, but I can only seem to make the GPS function successfully with the MR1 stock verizon rom.
Anybody want to take the two regs files compare, and see if they can find out where we can make the change to have the phone advertise the service "Network Access Point" when being paired to the mac or PC?
On one last note. I also tried the method of restoring the MR1 official rom, and then not allowing the customizations. ICS will function, but again, not advertising the service: "Network Access Point" when pairing, so it's not recognized as a valid networking method.
Where did you get those files (intshare.dll and IntShrUI.exe) to allow ICS via bluetooth?
Nevermind, I found it on PPCGeeks.
Don't know why DCD disabled the BT DUN on ICS.
I use Missing sync, and I turned on PAN then added my phone and it shoed it as a modem when I added it, but my BT connection is fairly Unrealible compared to the USB teather on Bootcamp
i was under the impression that bt pan has been whacked on macbook pro models starting from early 2008 on. anything earlier than that and it seems to work great. does anyone know why bt pan doesnt work on the newer machines and how to get it to work?

Tether Archos 5 (Android) to Verizon Touch Pro?

Anyone successfully tethered an Archos 5 Internet Tablet with Android to Verizon Touch Pro, so as to get that lovely EVDO Rev A displayed on that nice 4.8 inch screen?
I have an old SSK ROM (probably a good year old). I've tried WMWiFiRouter (Bluetooth and WiFi) and ICS (BT) to no avail. All of these work from my Win7 laptop. Bluetooth option requires just pairing; no config at all.
Apparently one issue is that Android (at least the 1.6 Donut on the Archos) can't connect to WiFi in Ad Hoc mode.
Don't know for sure what the BT issue is. Two things do jump out:
1. phone doesn't show NAP or PAN in the supported profiles in BT settings
2. laptop sees DUN as a profile. Archos doesn't show any listed after pairing
Any idea if one of the nice ROMs out there will help?
Thanks!
Kevin
This would make my year if I can get this working..
Archos 5 (fw:1.7.33)
Verizon Touch Pro 2(wm6.5)
When I try to turn the tether on (on the archos), "Dial-up Networking" in the bluetooth settings of the TP2 appears for the duration of it trying to connect. If the DATA Connection is connected, it will disconnect when you attempt to tether and not even try to reconnect.
So.. The phone sees a dial up connection from the bluetooth but theres a missing link between there and it actually dialing out. I tried wmwifirouter.exe but I cant get the bluetooth to work in that.
Weird thing: While tethering was tring to astablish a connection, I opened IE on the TP2 (to manually connect data) and got the Verizon tethering page (yes, on my phone) asking me sign up.. huh?
I heard from my coworkers that it is possible enable Ad-hoc in Android.. anyone try it with the archos?

Actually, with the latest Archos firmware (1.7.71? last week), it works great for me. After updating, I unpaired and repaired the devices. I use Internet Connection Sharing with BT, and use Archos Tether, and it works quite nicely. The power control widget is helpful here too; sometimes I need to power-cycle the Archos BT, then turn on tether, to get it to work.

Internet Connection Sharing is a program/setting? Or are you just saying you share internet through bluetooth.. Sorry just being thorough.
haha I'm not surprised there has been an update since 1.7.33. Hopefully that will fix my random reboots.. Ill report later tonight if the update to 1.7.71 helps. Thanks!

Internet Connection Sharing is a standard Microsoft WinMo program, but it is often dropped from carrier phones. It's pretty easy to find online.
WMWiFiRouter likely also should work in BT mode with 1.7.71, but I haven't tried it.
Kevin.. I'm being an idiot. You have the touch pro and I have the touch pro 2.
Bluetooth on wmwifirouter and on ICS (maybe i have the wrong ICS) seem to be not supported on the TP2. The only options is wifi/usb with wifirouter and usb with ICS
I'm assuming I need a program like those two that will work with bluetooth? I get the message on the TP2 "this device is attempting to connect to the internet" and I accept but still nothing... is this where wifirouter and ics come into play?
BT for ICS and WMWiFiRouter on TP2 vs TP
Odd that ICS and WMWiFiRouter should have less functionality on TP2 WinMo 6.5 than on TP WinMo 6.1...
Maybe you'll want to ping Morose Media (WMWiFiRouter folks) to see if they have any thoughts, as well as ask general ICS question on this site.
What version of WMWiFiRouter (I have 1.25, build 600) do you have?
And where di you get your ICS?

Oh, I see the following on WMWiFiRouter page. Too bad. Another reason to hold off getting TP2 .
# HTC Touch Pro 2
* AT&T Tilt 2
* HTC Rhodium
* Sprint Touch Pro 2
* Support from version 1.50. Sharing using Bluetooth not currently supported.

Running 1.6
There must be something unique about the BT on the TP2. Is there a reg hack that Morose Media hasn't even found yet? I'll write to support and see if they have any comments.

sorry i'm a noob.. I cant post links yet but its from ppcgeeks[dot]com
I hope there will be an update for wmwifi.
Might be easier to hack ad-hoc onto the Archos.. know anything about that lol?

You may want to check out the following thread. I think some of the Android users (e.g. G1) folks may have made some progress, but I don't know if that was on client or server side.
I wrote to morose about the TP2.. heres what they said:
We are looking into supporting the new non-Microsoft Bluetooth stack that comes with the new HTC devices, however unfortunately I cannot give you a date when we might have a beta of this available. All I can say is that the development team is working on it.

My pleasure... Good luck!
By the way, I asked them about supporting multiple devices over bluetooth, and the next day they gave me a prototype that does it, and they say they will put that into the main product. Now that's service! I love it -- much lower power usage and heat than WiFi, and plenty fast enough for my uses. Should run much longer that way. I'm psyched!
I am in the same boat with an archos 5 android tablet, the HTC touch PRO and sprint as a carrier. let me know if you come up with a work around. I'll do the same.
OKay . maybe i miss read all the posts. Its the HD PRO 2 thats having trouble connecting. I just updated to the 1.7.77 which allowed me to change to PAN and i made sure that PAN was selected in WMWIFIROUTER. All of the other things i left blank, and it connected right up showing a tiny cell phone icon next to my bluetooth icon. It was a very happy moment. I love finding those hidden icons.
Archos 5 Programming problem with PAN/DUN
The problem, and no one take this wrong, is that the technicians at Archos are a bunch of backwards idiots. I emailed them, explained to them that, if they would just rewrite the PAN/DUN menu to be selected previous to pairing, the problem would be solved.
My Sprint Touch Pro will do PAN bluetooth (all day long) even upside down but the idiotic software on the Archos 5 isn't smart enough to detect it so you don't get to use the PAN (which they claim is there), all you see is DUN.
I've used PDANet and gotten results but the connection is SO unstable it's just too irritating to bother.
If more people would write Archos, tell them to change the architecture of the tethering, this tablet would be more along the awesome line.
HOWEVER, because of this little quirk, some electronics magazines wrote the Archos 5 as "One of the tablets that should have NEVER been created" and it's gotten a bad rap because of the engineers.
Heck, even the whole GPS issue, they used an independent software from another company to make it work and while it DOES work, it's often slow to lock-in while standing still sometimes.
Basically i saw write in and tell them to change it. PAN is so much easier to deal with. I've had better luck with the G1 and the HERO but the problem is my current phone is using Windows Mobile 6 and they actually removed the DUN some versions ago for some reason i can't explain and the Microsoft tech couldn't tell me either.
You can hack the DUN in with registry tweaks and support software but there's no guarantee it will work.
#777 to start DUN connection?
I know I am late to this party, but on my 3rd AIT 5 (clearance at Best Buy for 150, but I got open box unit for 125) attempting this with XV6800, and now a new Imagio that tethers (Verizon) just fine with Linux/WinXP/Nokia N810.
The thing I have found with DUN is that it requires the tethered device (PC/AIT/etc) to send the #777 to connect, then authenticate with <phone number>@vzw3g.com for Id, and password of vzw. The tethering setup on the AIT appears to let you do the Id/Password part, but I see no way to get the #777 sent in the first place. Has anyone figured out that part?
TIA
