Help with RUU and Flashing. - G4

I'm sorry I have literally searched for about 5 hours today and still have not found what I needed. I'm a HUGE noob when it comes to this. I'm not sure if I was successful in the hardspl change it says I was and resets. The problem when it comes to rom flashing is that it says I need the rom update utility and I tried using and doing what it said in this thread : (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=409558) Yet nothing has helped =\ I hate to bother with old redundant threads but I really need help here. And yes I've been to the wiki and well that's how I found myself to the hardspl.
Phone Info:
IPL: 2.21.001
SPL: 2.21.0lip
Radio: 02.25.11.102
Rom Version: 2.25.11.1 WWE
Any help is greatly appreciated.
And when you give advice just pretend I'm very stupid and explain clearly ^^;

It doesn't matter if the RUU tool doesn't see version numbers, etc. it won't affect the flash. Just continue unless you get a failure or error message.
RUU is just the installer file that comes with just about any ROM in the Wizard Mobile 6 thread. I'd recommend the one in my sig, or the newest one from S.V.I or Cornelha, they are top notch. Very stable, no unnecessary software. Just what you need.
If you run one of these, and it doesn't work (this happens to me a lot), just use the Mun RUU to perform the install, with the new ROM's nk.nbf file, instead.

help with downgrading SPL, Radio and OS

Hello,
I know this has been asked all over the place but I have read all the related downgrade threads and cant find what im looking for. (Just too confusing!)
OK yesturday I got a SPV M3100 from orange. Within 5 mins I had followed this guide to upgrade to WM6:
http://www.mrvanx.org/hermes_guide/wmxl/index.html
All went well! I flashed the SPL thing first, then the radio thing, and then the OS.
I am trying to downgrade now, as I am having second thoughts and having a few problems. I want to downgrade everything, the SPL, Radio and OS stuff.
This is what I had:
IPL - 1.01
SPL - 1.04
Radio: not sure
OS: WM5 with Orange stuff intergrated
I now have:
IPL-1.01
SPL-1.40.Olipro
Radio: 1.38.00.10
OS: WMXL 0.20
I have read this guide about downgrading:
http://www.mrvanx.org/hermes_guide/Downgrade/index.html
I think I can follow it OK but it sounds confusing to me. He only really talkes about downgrading the OS. I want everything back to factory standard.
Theres all this talk about I have to downgrade to SPL 1.10 before I do anything. Some say force it. If it was 1.04 to start, why do i flash 1.10? Some say other stuff. Im just all confused! Can you do the whole lot in one flash? Do it seperately? What order?
Again really sorry for this random post, im just really stuck
Thanks
David

IF you read the guide it takes you through downgrading the OS,extrom and the two splashscreens.
You do the same procedure again for the radio and IPL/SPL, but make sure you do the SPL and IPL last.
Or you could do a different procedure where you flash 1.10.oli (SPL) to the device, then you can run a full flash all at once, is up to you.
thanks.
So I flash 1.10Olipro first (sorry where do i get this?)
Then I flash the Orange ROM from the wiki? This then puts the old radio, spl and os on?
does the orange rom force all the old stuff back on if the spl is 1.10 or something
Am i still following the same downgrade guide?
wish there was a guide just for me!!! lol

you have any tips for me having one yourself?
I want it all back to normal just incase I decide to send it back...
Upgrade was so easy, just ran a bunch of files. The downgrade one you have to extract, copy, move, compile and do all these things
If i put on 1.10oli will the phone still work with wm6?
then i do the downgrade guide and use the orange rom, how do i get it to downgrade all 3 things?
why cant it be as easy as flashing a normal phone like K800i lol

I take it your not looking to do this any time soon?
i want to do it today, just incase i decide to send it back to orange.
i just wanna know what steps to take how to get it all back to the way orange sent it to me.
i just went to start the downgrade sing the downgrade guide, but the only orange rom on the wiki is romanion or something and its orange008. so confusing!!!!!!
i dont understand
OK, there isnt a guide on this because its a more advanced thing to do. You REALLY should read up in the HardSPL thread and etc... before you do this:
download SPL 1.10.oli, unzip and run ROMUpgradeUT this will flash the SPL to the device. Then just download a ROM (such as an orange one) and run it. the ROM will downgrade everything.
Actually it is dangerous to downgrade using a full ROM without Hard spl1.40olipro which will protect you from bricking your device.
If you really want to do it then
1- Do as mrvanx guide to downgrade only the OS.
2- Do as mrvanx guide to downgrade only the Radio.
3- Download 1.10oli which will replace 1.40oli and I think it is the only way to do it.
4- Do as mrvanx guide to downgrade only the Spl.
I don't advice you to downgrade the radio as the shipped one is terrible.
Read Hard spl thread before you start your downgrade process.

Sh1t - Which Orange ROM?
What Bootloader version is now on the phone?
the Thread at the top of this forum is a good place to start - "dead hermes? corrupted radio? Post comments here"
Does it by any chance also say "No Gsm" on the orange screen briefly as it boots..

hello
bootloader on phone is spl-1.10.oli as this is what i was advised to put on it before i flash the rom and the rom would flash everything back...
the only things that the orange screen says is
M 05
S 04
B 06
D 2.5
the orange rom i used was...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=278060&page=3
hope you can help
thanks
Can you double check the boot loader version?
Coz I thought that Rom downgraded it too.
Best place to start, then, is the thread I mentioned. There is a table of what to do under certain circumstances.
Problem I was involved with, only option was repair. But with an Oli bootloader you should be ok.
the bootloader is defo 1.10.oli
i was expecting the rom to downgrade it too
i have put a post into that thread you said. its number 979
i have phoned orange and there happy to replace it tomo morning, if i fix it tonight then i just wont accept the new one... if not ill take risk of having replacement and them not contacting me about it
anything you can suggest? really appriciate any help!
i dont see how you can flash it again with difo boot loader as none of the tools recognise it now?
thanks

How to remove SPL/IPL from an official ROM?

I installed Olipro Hard SPL and am now able to try any wm6 ROM without SPL.
After having tried many of them, I would like to downgrade and try the last Qtek shipped ROM for wizard: QT_FR_9100_2170706_21707106_20710_180406.
But no matter how I try, I'm now unable to install that wm5 ROM.
Even my former SPV M3000 shipped ROM refuse to re-install.
I guess it's either a problem of RUU, or more probably a problem of SPL on those ROM.
I'd like to remove their SPL, but I don't know how to do.
Any tutorial, advice, or special no ID RUU that fits well those wm5 ROM?
The actual problem with this Rom is the RUU.
It won't let you downgrade.
However it is wise to get rid of the IPL/SPL, for safety and for keeping the hard SPL.
You can use typho5.exe to disassemble the ROM in parts, and use nbftool to re-assemble it without using the IPL/SPL.
They are available in the ROM kitchens.
Use the ruu in the hard spl thread for flashing.
Thanks for the reply, Equinoxe.
Actually I've already tried many RUU, not only the Ruu already included in the official ROM.
Mun RUU etc. But no luck, all kind of error occured but the the flashing remains impossible.
I'll try to find the tools you told me about and see whether removing IPL/SPL makes it easier to flash those ROM.
If you know any special RUU suitable for such a downgrade, please, let me know.

If Mun's RUU didn't do the trick, you better use the CORE pro kitchen.
You can extract the parts with typho5.exe
usage:
typho5.exe -x nk.nbf
all the parts will be created/extracted
Delete all the IPL_1 IPL_2 SPL_1 and SPL_2 parts
use nbftool to reassemble the ROM. (read the PDf to see the starting addresses, although nbftool should be patched to show the right addresses)
Good luck

Hi Equinox, thanks for the reply.
I started trying to get typho working, but all I could see was a brief command prompt and nothing else.
Finally, I ended up using Molski DevPack, which already includes those tools, in quite an ergonomic way.
After finding a guide about using those tools, It took me, no kidding about 10 mn for the whole process and 5 more to do the flashing.
I used nb2nbf_wizard to reassemble the ROM with only the parts I wanted to keep, including the extended ROM.
Regarding the address, it did it automatically, except for the HTC logo that I did manually, and also for the name of the Extended and Logo I renamed according to the sample jpeg showing that soft in action.
Since I kept the extended ROM and the original splash and logo screen, and I now have an authentic Qtek Wizard, just for fun.
But the most important is the feeling of building one's own ROM, according to your own taste and choice. Wonderful.
You were right: after having removed SPL/IPL and rebuilt the ROM, the Mun RUU worked flawlessly to flash my so called Qtek ROM onto my wizard.
In the meantime, It got rid of the pile of miscellanous splash screens and logos that were left since the install of all previous wm6 ROM.
Thanks again for the tips.
P.S.: the guide I used to understand how to use the Molski DevPack:

Upgrading WM5 to WM6

I'm a first-time poster, long time reader. I had a G3 Wizard before and recently upgraded to a newer Wizard after the G3 fell into the bottom of a lake. I've read a lot of posts about upgrading a G4. I've only been successful a handful of times though. The only roms that have been successful with have been Wizard Love and Faria. I've CID-unlocked my G4. It's been hard-unlocked but unfortunately I don't know if that means I won't ever have to unlock it again or if it's just until i do a hard-reset. Anyways, I'm currently looking to upgrade to TNT 1921. It has a lot of the features that I'd like to have on my Wizard. I've read many posts about problems but I have yet to see my problem answered. Every time I try and upgrade, I remove my SD card and go to the Bootloader screen. I also kill wcescomm.exe. After that I simply run the RUU. I'm not sure if this is my problem or not but almost every time, I get an Error [264]. I'm totally not sure where to go after this. I've tried many things. Apparently going back to an official rom is recommended before updating. I have a Wizard from Holland so I'm not really sure which one to download. I downloaded RUU_Prodigy_2210205_22102108_021911_TMO_NL_DUT_Ship. I tried running this but it just died on me and said ERROR [300].
Here's some info that might be helpful:
IPL 2.21.0001
SPL 2.21.01ip
I've tried everything guys. Updating this thing has frustrated the hell out of me and kept me up for the past couple nights. If someone could give me a detailed step-by-step instruction for updating or how to get this ROM to work for me, I would be indebted for life.
Thank you
Serge
Someone please help me. This thing is driving me insane.
You need to flash a ROM with no IPL / SPL , im also using Olip SPL and I had to use a new hacked RUU updater
So does that mean I can or can't upgrade to TNT 1933?
Is this because of the hard-unlock I did?
Yup, you can flash TNT.. Look at this topic:
Clickie
Now you have Hard SPL
You can flash the ROMs with the RUU in the ROM package, should you have trouble with upgrading, try Mun's RUU (thanks for the tip Boto).

Click Mun's RUU in that topic and use that to flash the nk.nbf file from the TNT package.. Hope it helps!

Newbie needs help with updating T-Mobile MDA Touch plus (aka HTC Touch Dual)

Hi @ all,
after reading many and many threads here in this forum (and even others) I thought I gathered enough information for starting with update my T-Mobile MDA. The original image shows the following versions:
ROM-Version: 1.35.111.13
ROM-Date: 03/14/08
Radio-Version: 1.58.21.24
Protocol-Version: 25.65.30.04H
I saw that HTC offers an official WM6.1 build for this device and since I'm running WM6.0 with many obvious bugs (and slowlyness) I decided it can't get worst.
Fortunately I found the download-link here in this forum for the official WM6.1 Professional build in german, because HTC denies access telling me that this build can't be installed on a foreign (OEM) device. After downloading the image from the link I've found here I started the updater. But even this updater refused attempts telling me that the VendorID is wrong.
As stated before I read and read and read before trying the update - but it went wrong finally. By using uSSPL 1.16 I started the update process with the original HTC updater. Everything went fine until 15% then the updater again quotes that my device has a wrong VendorID. From that moment on I saw only the rainbowscreen telling me the following:
(Top right corner: RUUNBH)
NIKI200
SPL-1.18.0000
CPLD-4
I assume that the SPL on my device is guilty of deciding which firmware to install. Luckily I found a way of still booting my device using MTTY 1.42 and sending "boot" as command. Then it booted - but I have to do that right now every time I boot up the device - it doesn't bootup by itself :-(
Here's my first question: How can I achieve that the device boots up completely and automatically again without sending a "boot" command?
I certainly still want to upgrade to ANY better OS than the current one - it just sucks! So, here're my further questions and I know there are many, many threads here and I think that read all of them according to this, but I'm still confused:
Q: What do I need as prequisites for updating this T-Mobile branded device with the official HTC Image? I'm sure SPL 1.15 and 1.16 are "too old"(??) for dealing with this brand new release firmware, right? Maybe that was the cause why the update failed.
Q: Is it necessary to install a hardSPL before starting the update? I would prefer NOT to modify the hardSPL because if I brick the device totally, I lose warranty - I just want to prevent that! If anyone tells me here, that there's really no risk of flashing hardSPL and that this certainly will work (due to his/her own experience) then I sure would proceed. BTW: I'm a newbie to this forum here and by dealing with consumer PDAs and flashing them in general, but I'm working for a company who's manufacturing such devices for the industry in rugged environments as technical supporter/consultant therefore the basics an beyonds are clear to me - only this specific field is new.
Final question: According to my questions above, a structured list (Step-By-Step) of what is necessary to do to "convince" this T-Mobile device of loading foreign Firmware is highly appreciated!
Thanks in advance for your support!
Reingucker
If you can actually get in with the boot command from mtty you're in luck.
If you're getting the vendor ID error then you'll need to unlock the device (see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=395945)
You don't need to install a hard spl, once you're unlocked and booted copy over the sspl file from the spl thread to your device (the device itself and not the SD) then take out your SD and run the sspl
This will then reboot the phone to bootloader and allow the rom to be flashed without a hard spl. As the new rom comes with spl 1.22 this will be installed.
WOW - thanks very much for this fast response!!
I've read the article of the link you quoted. There it is said, that I have to flash hardSPL 1.15 before proceeding. So I guess, there's no way around of modifying the device in such a manor that it would be noticed in cases of warranty repair, right?
Cheers,
Frank
hardSPL is an advisable safeguard while flashing but you can always revert to a stock SPL afterwards if you need to.
If you went to SPL 1.22 you'd need to do that anyway if you needed to return the device as T-mobile don't have a rom with that spl yet.
Dear randomelements,
THANKS VERY MUCH for your fast response and help!
FINALLY I DID IT!!!
BUT :-D one question left:
Now I've flashed the official HTC Image with WM6.1.
Is there any way of getting the T-Mobile splash screen back onto
the device? I've found the splash-screen flasher, but do you know
where to get the T-Mobile splash-image?
Thanks again very much,
Reingucker
There are some t-mob roms around for download (links are somewhere in the forum)
Using the nbh tools the splash screens can be extracted from that and repackaged.
I'll have a look when I get home tonight.
OK, great - thanks!
In the meanwhile I'm searching around for this as well. If I'm faster I'll let you know.
Since my device is "still" on hardSPL 1.15, would you recommend to upgrade to 1.22 or is that not necessary - or, better to say, what would be the advantage resp. the disadvantage?
Cheers,
Frank

It's usually better to have a later SPL and everyone is saying that 1.22 makes the device run smoother.
Liquid Silver has created a 1.22 HardSPL so you might like to give that a try - I've been using it without issues:

Grrrrr.....
Okay, one more thing....
I tried to replace the "animated.gif" in the /windows directory.
But the file is a system file and I always get an error message
that this operation isn't allowed.
How can I replace this?
Thanks in advance,
Reingucker
You can replace it with Resco Explorer or Total Commander, because these File Explorers can overwrite system files!

OK, thanks for the hint....
I achieved it by changing the registry entry that links to the file...
However... learning that these two apps can do that helps certainly...
Thanks again and....

[Q] A noob bit confused about SPL and how to get it down to 2.10.0000

Hi guys,
After stumbling across a guide on how to get android 2.2 on to my HD2 i thought it was time to let the old wm6.5 leave my phone for good. The guide is easy enough to use i guess but I'm struggling a bit with getting my SPL down to 2.10.0000 to install HSPL3 on my phone. After reading and googeling in this forum, i have learned new words like radio and what not, but it is still not very clear to me how to downgrade my SPL. My SPL is now at a staggering 3.03.0000.
Would be nice with a bit of guidance, a link to the right guide for me to use or something. Its really amazing things you are doing here.
Cheers guys

Thanks for a quick reply.
I have already looked at a few of these guides but they get me a bit confused. In order to install HSPL3 i need to get my SPL down to 2.10, and in order to downgrade radio or ROM, i need to have the HSPL3 or something similar hacking thingy. In the link i got from your post its recommended to use Radio version 2.15.50.14, that might or might not have an SPL below 2.10. If i could get a simple guide or a bit of assistance on how to get my SPL suitable for HSPL3, everything will be hunky dory.
cheers

Install a previous stock ROM; a version before the 3.14 stock ROM.
make sure that the stock ROM match your device aria/language
Cheers, just what i needed, a simple answer. So now i guess i am almost finished but encountered another problem:
Problem: On some devices MAGLDR won't boot at all (HTC logo stay after turn on).
Solution: Install HSPL208.
Don't understand how to install the hspl208 instead when my phone is not to keen on booting. If i get a little assistance with this i guess i should be able to finally get Android on my phone
hurrah,
After dicking around a bit i managed to sort it out. Cheers guys and thanks for all the help
