What would I do to build a ROM from Scratch - Touch Pro CDMA

To keep this thread simple ill just ask the question. After months and months of reading and reading about different ROMS and Kitchens, net frames, builds c:/, etc ive come up with a million and one ideas on my ideal rom but not knowing where to begin is making me pull my hair out. How did you start building your VERY first rom, im talking from the ground up. This will give some ideas on where to go from here.

Did you ever figure out how to make a ROM from scratch? I've been designing/drawing my own ideas for a ROM and i'd like to get this thing going as well, if you want, I can send you what I've got and we can like compile this together? Lol

I, along with others, would suggest to start with the stock rom.
It forces you to learn the ins and outs of how things work and how to do certain mods and helps you just understand everything overall. but you can always choose to start with someone else's rom, but that doesn't necessarily make you a rom chef.

I have no problem getting into ROM's head first.. taking someone else work and reworking it to my own doesnt give me any gratification.. i'd like to be able to say "i made this work this way". yeah everyone is doing ROM's, will i ever release what i do, who knows.. i just know what i want..
i'm not looking into making the best ROM out or recoding till my eyes hurt.. I would like to learn the in's n outs.. And learn to implement some of the MODS currently out.
did some searching and i've come up with Stock Incredible Sense *3.26.605.1* (Rooted) by rmk as a base.. any better bases?
now that im thinking of it, i'll need to get the OTA's worked in from there..
much thanks for the info..
so as much as i want to dig into all this.. time isnt on my side.. my wife and i had our twin daughters back in october, and it's extremely difficult to find any kind of computer time. not to mention im not even back to work yet, and i have already obligated myself to my small record label and my interest in working for myself via real estate sales.. i may just need to let the ROM people keep doing what they do and i enjoy and support their work..

Lots of new info!

I want to start developing soon, Im currently selling my SR and will be picking up an SIII and I think I would like to start playing around with it. I have seen a lot of new info posted in the last 9 months that I have been here. I was wondering which guides are the most highly recommended and which apps make things the easiest these days. It Dxidas kitchen still the way to go? Are there certain things I need for kernels and ROM's besides source? Let me know where you guys/girls think would be the best place to start. I have very very very basic knowledge of programming, but I am usually to the go to guy as far as computer software or hardware repair. I learn very quickly! Thanks in advance for letting me get into your realm!

ROM's from Source yet?

So does anyone know how long until we start seeing ROM's built from source? I have been ttying a lot of them, but after a couple days I start loosing signal and have to go back to stock. I have no clue how to build my own so am reliant on Dev's. Not trying to be greedy, was just wondering if any were working on them or were about to release?
Ok, go ahead and flame me now for asking this...

Question for the developers

This doesn't really have to do with this device specifically. Just something I've been wondering.
How do you guys know all this stuff? Is it just a hobby of yours that you've been researching in your spare time? Is it your job? Have you taken classes on it in school? I'm wondering because I'd love to create my own ROM one day and all that good stuff. But I know next to nothing about programming. The only thing I have to go on is Intro to Computer Software Development class I'm taking for my major where we learn basically intro to Java. So based on what I've learned so far, you guys have done WAY more than just a simple class than that? So where do I get started exactly?
I love what you guys do and would love to be able to contribute more. Must be a pretty cool feeling to see someone is running a ROM of yours and knowing YOU made it yourself. I would love to be able to do this stuff. How the hell do you guys know all this crap? Haha
I'm still relatively new to Android. Got my Galaxy S3 in October. Waited about a week and started reading up about rooting and all that. Then it shattered in December and I got the OG.
So my knowledge about rooting and ROMs and all that is about 4-5 months. I know that's definitely not enough time to be able to build your own ROM from scratch, but I still feel like no matter how long I have Android, I still need to know a lot about programming to even get started. I'm completely lost half the time people in development threads are talking.

After years of stalking the forums....

Im about to venture into making my first rom.
Been flashing my phones since 2.1 and i think its about time i made some sort of contribution.
My 1+X arrived today, and while i love it to bits already, oxygenOS just isnt doing it for me.
I want to create something inbetween Dirty Unicorns/cm12...
Would anyone be up for pointing me in the right direction to get started/fancy helping out when i get more of a plan together?

Set up your development environment and toolchain, pull MasterAwesome's mostly functional take on CM12.1, try to build it yourself and go from there?
