For the Newbies here:
The radio ROM is responsible for Wifi, phone signal, GPS. Changing the radio ROM can improve your phone (or make it worse) regarding Wifi sensitivity, phone signal availability, GPS satellite receiving and GPS lag.
Unfortunately there is no confirmed measurement available yet to tell you which radio ROM is the best for you. It depends on the OS ROM you use, the region you are living and your personal needs.

Recommended radio
4.49.25.17 has received good feedback from Germany, Brasil, Hongkong, GreatBritain, Italy, Austria, Netherlands, India, Bulgaria, Singapore, France, China.
4.49.25.57 got as well good feedback. I saw now difference on 4.49.25.88 and it needs CID/Security unlock, because it comes from Rhodium.
2.49.25.204 got some good feedback from Croatia. Some users report problems with Wifi WPA.
4.49.25.91 got good feedback from Europe, Japan, USA. This ROM is my recommendation!
How to flash a radio?
HardSPL your device, then
either
Use included CustomRUU for flashing from your PC
or
Rename radio to TOPAIMG.nbh, copy to your SD-Card, go to bootloader (Reset with VolumeDown pressed)
How to benchmark a radio?
Difficult, we do not have a real good method yet.
Thanks to akirius we have a tool to see Cellar System Available------Cellular System Connected------Signal Strength(percent)------Signal Strength RAW(percent). You can get it from this post.
You can use the FieldTest application. Check the values RRSI 1 or AGC (under WDCMA). Check this post and the followings to learn more about it.

Have it since last nite on my Topaz, so far good, but I am at a special place, maybe not comparable with Europe or US.
Battery drain normal with the TESS 2.0 ROM.

I was using the .21 and I was happy with receiption quality and battery life.
Testing at the moment the .31 and cannot see any difference.
But I am on Japanese network, so the improvements might be for other regions.
using v4.47.25.31 for one day now. No complaints, good reception, nice battery.
Testing 4.47.25.31 for one day: no significant improvement compared with .21
Recommended radio from 4.47.25.21 for good GPS reception.
Hi,
flashed 4.47.25.31 yesterday (from 3.46.25.18). Using Topaz WM 6.1 Stock ROM (germany).
Provider: (germany) blau.de (using the "e-net", as e-plus and o2)
Having the same issues i had with every 4.X-ROM 'til now. General receiving quality is between "ok" and "bad", sometimes the device loses connection to the provider completely.
Data-connections switch excessively between "3G" "E" "G", causing many data-transfer-pauses and really often connection-losts (even when it shows 2 bars of signal-strength), so i have to reconnect manually.
gps seems fine so far. wlan works as i'm used to it
Battery life (compared to 3.46.25.18) seems better.
nevertheless, it just seems as if the 4.X Radio-ROMs don't play good with a WM6.1 (stock) ROM. At least not for me, causing the same troubles every time.
I'm going back to 3.46.25.18 when i come home later, as this one is a lot better (for me) when it comes to signal quality and keep-alive of data-connections...
edit: Interestingly enough, after having posted the above text my device is running well currently. The weather has become better and the overall signal quality seems to be higher - so it seems, that the 4.x radios behave different in poor signal areas.

I already ask in different thread, if exist some change log, but no, doesnt exist. so only way is to watch threads, and sometime people said - "..I have bad reception with version xxx...". it is not very comfortable, but there is one way, test one version lower, as is the newest one, and wait perhaps one week, if someone post information about problem/advantage of newest version. for me - I updating always all new rom/radio/BL

this radio perfect for me on my mda vario ii , better signal strength and even displays the correct H 3G SIGNS
I just extracted the radio 1.47.51.00 from the htc x7501 wm6 rom and packaged it so it only flashes the radio only. Please ensure if you want to use make sure your device is hardspl which you can find here:

I have flashed it twice now and both times without no probs only set back is that after the radio upgrade your device will hard reset and have to set up device again. I am using this radio with the latest dopod wm6 upgrade now.

if you haven't CID unlocked already (or if you have) if this has a new radio bootloader, (0108) your CID will be stuck from now on.
then again, it might not, I'll report back in the morning

hi olipro, sPl hasnt changed still the same faithful SPL-V1.20.Olipro hardspl when you go into bootloader as i just extract the radio.nb itself and repackaged it. Let me know anyway

I have been using the 1.47.51.00 radio and so far not much difference between them although I think radio 1.45.00.00 has got a better 3g signal and vice versal with radio 1.45.00.00 has got a better gsm signal.
Both radios has got similar battery life in my own opinion and to fairly say that both radios are really good in terms of overall use with the athena

I have been using the x7501 radio rom thats in my sig and tested it with video call and it works, not that I have used it that much.

I would assume then that the Radio ROM supports it, it may just be that the Main ROM has had those functions removed for the X7501.
I'll give it a go. Hopefully it will stop the problems I get when leaving a 3G area. Every time I do, i get no signal for around 10 seconds while it latches on to the 2G signal.
Of course, it could just be that T-mobile have crappy transmitters in my area.....

I have SPL3.5 and managed to extract the Radio from Taxists latest Rom , which I believe is from the 7510'

I used Duttys NBH tool that Irus has linked on the WM6 page
This rom seems to work well on SPL 1.2 and 3.5
Some Roms wont show the H icon eg michyprimas (see here for solution) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2447327&postcount=3
There is also a guide to errors you might receive in a text file included in the rom, that I got from one of the AP4 installations

So far, I'm only observing the data connection capability, and noted that the H icons stay there all the time, so internet and email connections no longer has a lag. In other word, both internet and email seems faster with this radio.
I hope this behaviour is stable. Let's continue to observe and see how it goes.

The same as a ROM flash.
It will hard reset, so backup first before upgrading.
Anyone from the US running this radio? is it better than the previous, does it improve battery life/reception/etc?
I would be interested to know if anyone here in the USA has tried this version, On the AT&T network in particular. (I have the 1.57.00 radio currently on US AT&T and it works very well, very rapid Sat Lock on too)

Hi tovarish.
To be sure , I checked the contents of the file and they are the same as in any 1.2 SPL upgrade.
There is also a file walking you through the process and explains any error messages you might get and their solution.
Lenny and Brau, this is the same radio as in taxists latest rom so if any US members have tried it it should work.
I think irus has used it.
Why don't you give it a try and report what you think.
Eaglesteve usually gives a good opinion and workout of apps he tries but of course he is in australia.

Why not try out yourself?It is so easy and involves so little effort and time.
- backup using sprite
- flash the new radio and test
- if there is improvement, restore. If not, flash back old radio and restore.

the thing is its not hard to do so, its just that I didn't want to "re-create the wheel", in other words if someone tried it already and it worked or didn't work they could easily relay that info so other's wouldn't have to do it.
I will relay that info so other's in the US won't have to "re-create the wheel": this radio doesn't work in the US. you can try it for yourself, but it didnt' work for me.

While I have not yet tested all radio functions, I can say that it does work on US AT&T. I have not noticed any major diff from Radio v1.57.00 for me (your results may differ from mine, based on carrier & area you live).

It certainly works in the US, on at&t anyway. No differences from 1.57 at all for me.

at first glance I have 3 bars of service at home when i never get more than 2. So far definately an improvement over .28 and .31

Flashed and testing. By now much better 3g reception. At home I only had one bar and now two even three.

Interesting results... for me the reception is the same with Orange here at home, one-two bars with .28 and same with this one... i'll do more tests later out of home with 3G and GPS.

in all the ROM-threads we talk about the different radio-versions. As call quality has been THE major issue on our device I decided to make up a new thread only for radio. Hope it is ok..
I`m using Novembre5 german rom #1 with radio 5005.1600.05. The complaints about" I can´t hear you..." seem to increase in comparison to the official toshiba Swiss ROM I used before. I`m using german vodafone network, dk if its important.
Maybe we can compare our experiences with the different radios to help our great cooks to implement the"perfekt" radio for our TG01..

I guess it will depend were you are. I have tried most of the roms that had been posted here. For the purpose of testing the call quality I spent about two hours trying the roms. The original problem I had with this is the person the other end sometimes can not here me properly. A problem I did not have since I upgraded to the official toshiba rom 6.5.0. When I had november's 6.5.5 rom running to my surprise i had a worst call quality, the qualityon both sides was bad. So I tested the different roms and as a result the radio from the official toshiba upgrade is the best one for me. I am in the UK so it might be a different case with other people on other country.
And just a note the radio version that everyone is using now is originaly release for china so it might not be design for other countrys network. I guess!
Also I have posted this in a couple of threads and aragon said that he can do a tool to easily change the radio on roms. I hope it materials. so thubs up from me.
Just to add. Im using aragon's TG01 Debranded Orange UK - 6.5.0 ROM v0.010 which works perfect for me at the moment. loads of space for program and ram after installing all my apps especially for call quality issue.

so maybe we, the "european" users, should vote for an 6.5.5-ROM with the official UK-Radio. Or, if aragon gets an "easy-radio-update-tool" to work, we might be able to do it ourselves...
It seems that FFBOY radio layer is better, that what I can see, but it's not easy, because all ROM works well, with some diffenreces.... No need of SRSWOW with ffboy's ROM.

I'm from Romania this means from Europe here only work the latest Hong Kong radio driver 5005.1600.05 the other one from official UK keep getting problems in call quality.
Do i get that right: there seems to be no easy answer to the question: which is the best radio? Cant believe it, but my technical knowledge is maybe much too low for that. The "Easy-radio-update-tool" might be a possibility for every single user to find the radio that works best for him and in his country/network. So hopefully a tool like that will appear sometime in the future.
im using the newest offical tosh 6.5 update cooked with the
5005.1600.05 radio by aragon this has drastically improved my sound quality i no longer need srswow plus as it the offical rom there is not bugs ect

What country of you used
I use WM 6.1, but only chinese version... i don't understand nothing, but....... radio works perfectly in my country. it's the first time, when my phone works good, when i am talking with somebody... you can find this rom in the ffboys rom link (somewhere in last posts there is a link for 6.1)I AM VERY SORRY FOR MY BAD ENGLISH

Strange. I've been using ffboy's Sense Rom with 5005.1600.05 radio and my call quality is worse. Loads of people here are saying it was better for them. Mind you, it was the same story with the original 6.5 update. Loss of people had problems, but others swore blind that it was perfect for them, with some even suggesting that we must have had a bad batch with a unique hardware fault. I think it's fair to say I ruled that out. I've had 8, some of them refurbs, but the last two were brand new replacements. They were all the same for me. A couple of people suggested it was more to do with varying quality in beteen gsm or 3g areas of network coverage.
One thing I noticed that helped sometimes was to change the volume slider up or down and for some strange reason, the other caller would say that it was better, but then it would get bad again after a few minutes. I once tried dialing my own number and leaving a message on my own voicemail to see what was happening and I discovered that the sound started breaking up particularly at the point when the screen turns off shortly after the start of the call. Anyone else noticed that?

Like some others, I found the latest UK Toshiba update to be the best for me so far, although not prefect.
Has anyone had problems with 5005.1700.05?
i had big problems with the 1700 radio. So i had to go back on a rom with a 1600 radio.
I tried 1600 radio version it is not that good. My friend can hear heavy echoing and the time for phone to response is too slow(in my case 20 secs later). WM6.1 has much better radio quality.
I used Japanese version of tg01, when flashed Uk rom radio dont changed, how to change radio for this version ? plz help me, this radio version is really suck (sorry my bad english)

No frequency related, those(&many others) are radio software versions (generally fitted to certain ROM versions, depending on country?!), so far nobody knows precisely differences between them...
