Guys.... would appreciate if anyone can guide or help me on this. I am absolutely sure that even after removing / uninstalling a software some files are left behind and hence the storage space doesnt quite come back to normal.... Can anyone suggest as to how should i reclaim that space or use a good uninstaller?
Thanks

I am new to android , being a WM ex-pat, so forgive my ignorance. Had this new phone a couple of weeks now and have encountered a big problem with it. At first it seemed fine, but after a week it ran out of internal sd memory, despite only having 250mb worth of stuff on it, the1.7 gb was full.
Cut a long ..etc. Seems sd/android/data/com.cooliris.media/cache/hires-image-cache ,is the culprit.
Every time media scanner runs it fills this cache folder with DUPLICATES (I suspect) of what has already been scanned, instead of adding only new stuff.
consequently the internal sd memory fills in less than a day.
I figured that rooting was the answer, so have successfully rooted, (with help of this forum, ) and tried using autostarts to disable media scanning , but , of course that means I cant access any media without it running. Since i havent been able to find an answer to this anywhere else, wonder if someone could tell me how to
sort this problem,?? (as its driving me nuts!!) Thanks folks.
sorry,don'know why
I don,t know why but since you know how to root then maybe this can help :
1. Install Titanium Backup from Market, the free version is suficient for the task. From backup/restore tab above, find "Gallery". Tap on it then select freeze. This means your Gallery app is still intact but won't run anymore.
2. Delete your culprit cache
3. Now as an alternative to Gallery app, you can use QuickPic from market.
Well, hope this solves your issue.
Thanks Distan7, - Took your advice and it done the trick!! (so far at least!)- (Had to get Tb full tho, as lite doesnt allow freezing!) This method beats my recent solution, hands down, which was to use prog called "gallery lock" to hide media from m.scanner, but its a long winded pain to use.! Tianium backup is a brilliant app! Many thanks for your help.
You're welcome mate, sorry I forgot that you need TB full to freeze apps. You could backup then uninstall Gallery using TB free, but I fear something bad might happen. Anyway TB is a great app with lots of useful features.
Hope the trick lasts
Hi a golden rule, as long your phone is rooted, a smart idea is that if you have TB and want to unistall a system app make sure at least to back it up before you unistall it!
Nothing is true....everything is permitted...
when i uninstall apps, im sure that there are remnant files left over from the app still remaining on my phone. how do i remove these extra files from the phone?
Im also interested in this question, so if anyone can help about this one it would be awesome!
My internal storage is full and I need more space. I'm wonder what would happen if I was to move things like apps to my external and then delete them on my internal? Anyone have any ideas on how to get more space without borking something up?

Click to collapse
How many apps do you have installed??
Go into settings, Apps.
Click on each app. If the feature is natively avaiable, there will be an option to move to SD Card. Click that.
Otherwise, you can use third party apps like App2SD to move apps to SD Card.
I am actually attempting to nix the INTERNAL memory and dedicate it all to /data for application installs and data storage, and just make my 32GB MicroSD the alternate storage (and actually mounted as /sdcard, seriously, that annoys the ever living piss outta me)... Sadly, its only been done on the International GNote, and the setup seems worlds apart when trying to accomplish it on my AT&T GNote...
Anywho, If I manage to get it working, ill let ya know (if the other certifiably viable options aren't to your liking)
Cheers
Thanks a bunch hammer...I did what you said and it gave me a lot more room, but not enough for now.
Sorry I meant to thank Eugene Hammer, if you do get that working please let me know because to me that would be worth paying for.
hey I need some help figuring this issue out. Why is my storage for applications all jacked up despite having over 5 gigs of space left?
Are you using any mods to move apps to your sdcard? It might be causing issues with the way the phone calculates the used space.
nope, I know it's a minor inconvenience but it just sucks that it isn't working right.
is there anyway to look up the app directory data files and see if any of those are larger than normal?
hey guys, how can I repartition my S2? I've upgraded to 4.1 and the app partition is 2GB. As we know there is a lot of crapware, the system is biggeer... the result is that after a few application the phone says that I'm running out of space and I cannot sync email anymore, for example.
The weird thing is that the data partition is more than 11GB free! So the question is: is there a way to increase the app partition, say at least 4GB? Ideally even more as I do not care about large data like photos and videos.
Is there a way to edit the pit file or can I found some premade ones?
Thanks
I'm not very techy but i've been here long enough to know to stay away from those .pit files. And i recommend you do the same.
But if you still want to play with them, it's up to you.
I appreciate it, but yeah, I want to play with it. I'm conscious about what it means, the consequences and what I should do to make everything smooth. I'm a developer myself, but not really into the mobile world and not aware of the current status on this. If somebody would point me to a tecnique to solve this problem (that I'm a bit surprised few people have) I'd be super grateful!
ps.
And on a personal note, I think that this "stay away from pit files!" thing that I've read around isn't necessarily a good thing. One should at least explain why it is bad. Yeah, a newbie messing with those things can brick the phone. But he should know why and how, to consciously avoid that. It's like telling somebody to stay away from the command line because you know that they can do rm -rf /.

Thanks, my search effort didn't bring me there. Looks promising. Will post here if that helped out!
