Simple problem. I have several thousand mp3s at home and want to stream them to my phone so that I have all my songs regardless of my location. Even an 8GB MicroSDHC card will not hold all the songs, so streaming is the next best alternative.
I've tried using ORB, and it's a great idea, but the interface through PIE leaves much to be desired. It's difficult to drive around and click the little links, even on large font. Also there is no easy way to queue songs up without making a playlist prior.
Are there any alternatives to ORB that have a better front-end? It'd be nice to have a touch-friendly scrolling type of "catalog" of my songs, and then stream/queue them when I select them. Doesn't seem so hard.
I even tried creating a home web page with IIS, and that worked to a point, but there's got to be something better.
Thanks!

I read in one of the other threads that SanDisk has announced a 12GB micro SD available this summer and they speculate that it may be a 16GB by the time it comes out.
I agree 100%...I love ORB but it is way too difficult to navigate.
They really have it all down except the few things you mentioned
Anyone else??
SelectRadio 4.0.2 ?
This prog has such an option, and I do use the program but have not tried it out for that so I do not know how well it works.
Lobster Tunes will do it for you. It's not free, though.

Lobster looks pretty cool. I'm going to check it out and see if it offers a better experience than what I currently use (Andromeda - http://www.turnstyle.com/andromeda/home.asp).

What do you find bad about Andromeda? I was thinking about giving it a try...
Here is one I have been wondering about. What software can you use to stream your local radio stations to your phone? I know about tuned.mobi and such, but the problem is that when a game comes on, they usually block the broadcast of the audio stream even though it is playing on the local AM radio station. I want to be able to broadcast my local radio stations (AM and FM) to my phone so I can still get the games.
I wonder if someone could not write a program that integrates everything available through orb into you wmp library i.e. some sort of plugin maybee we could put together a donation pot to get one of the dev's to work on the project

lol, I have a radio...multiple radios. I think you may have misunderstood me. If I got something like this device would I be able to stream it to my phone? I travel... when I am in another state, I can not stream my local radio station broadcasts through the internet to listen to games (blacked out). However, they are playing on the radio station if I were at home and able listen to my radio.
well I think I finally found my cream of the crop... saw this thread and I have to say, andromeda is the BEST solution I've found for getting my music to my PPC...
it works very well with PIE and is very zippy zippy zippy...
I've tried:
1) lobstertunes - buggy, slow, doesn't work with all ROMs
2) gnump3d - buggy perl script, cool features but crashes a lot
3) orb - as you all have stated, interface sucks in PIE and too hard to navigate
4) andromeda - FAST, stable, and CLEAN... worth every penny of the $20 lol
I like the interface of Andromeda the best, not to mention it's speed. Although you can create a playlist, you still can't just "queue" one up...unless I'm missing something.
Took me some tweaks to get it to work too. Have to rename the asp to m3u and make it executable on the server. I also had to use a third party player.
What player are you using? Also, when I click on a file to stream, it always asks me if I want to overwrite the existing m3u. I say yes and it works fine, but ya know

Yup gotta do a few tweaks but it ends up workin'... yes same thing with overwiting the file but that's typical... I use TCPMP and it works flawlessly.

Do you have a mac?
I'm not sure this would work for you, but it's something that I'm going to try once the needed adapter comes in.
I feel slingbox works really well on my phone and I use it to stream live TV. For my media files I'm planning on using my mac mini which has an IR sensor for the remote and Front Row. The front row interface is very similar to the interface on an ipod and the commands are supposedly supported by slingbox. Once I get the adapter for vga-svideo I will set it up. The only downside I can think of is that audio when watching TV doesn't come over in good quality unless I have it in audio only mode, but this might not be a problem with Front Row where there will be very little visual data transmitted for audio files.
The reason a mac mini is nice is that it has a built in IR sensor. This bet this will work with windows media center too if you have something to control it with IR. Another potential downside is that the computer pretty much needs to be dedicated to working as a media server lest you forget to put it back into media mode.
Hello,
for everyone who is interested in: i have developed a resume-plugin for the windows media player. Just install the .cab and everytime you press pause on the MediaPlayer it will save the playlist and the position. Afte you exit the player or the device resets it will resume at the same position.
Perhaps someone find it useful in combination with audio-books.
Have fun,
greets,
Thomas
P.S: The plugin is for the MOBILE Windows Media Player, that means it is for devices with the Windows Mobile OS! (For those who come direct from google to this PDA-Forum..
UPDATE 1.1:
-now it is not necessary (written correct..? to press "pause". Every 20 sec a resume list is written.
UPDATE 1.2:
-New Config-Tool for setting the Save-Interval and an option for asking to resume on startup.
-The save-interval is the time for automatic save in Milliseconds
-please de-install the previous version before installing the new!
UPDATE 1.2.1:
-the PopUp for resuming is bound to the mediaplayer so you can use the library startoption.
You have to close the library to see the PopUp.
Have Fun!
Hi,
your cab installs the "ResumePlugin2.dll" on "\Program Files\ResumePlugin", without reg entries or Links.
how will this work?

It is a self-register com-component. On install the installer calls the self-register function of the .dll, it registers itsself as WMP Plugin and makes the reg-entries in \hklm\software\microsoft\mediaplayer\uiplugins. After that, the plugin works.

Thomas
Really very useful plug in.
Thanks a lot for this app.

Wowz! You're a star! I check it ASAP.
Thanks! i m going to try.
Works great on all my WM5+ test devices (PPC and SP alike), except for the HP iPAQ 210.
thank you. this is working great for me as well. it is standard on every other media player except wm...
side note: s2p has this standard and seems to use less resources then wm.
thanks again for this very handy hack. I will pass this along as well.

Thanks for making WMP better !
PS : It was one of the reasons that make me install S2P... I was obliged to select again and again the playlist...

No it doesn't. Read my related review.
Just one word: BRILLIANT!
I'm not getting any love from this.
It did it once, but I can't repeat it.
also, has anyone tested it with the HTC Home music tab?
Ive tried launching direct from wmp shortcut also...
Can you make a configurable auto-bookmark? Every X seconds, bookmark the file. Don't need to keep history of all the autobookmarks, that would obviously grow and grow.
That way we would at least have a auto-bookmark in case we forget to hit pause or WMP crashes.

Done. But it´s not configurable...
One thing I noticed is that if I have shuffle turned on, when I reopen WMP, it will start playing another song in the list instead of picking up where it left off.
Great WMP is the mosed used app for me.
And now i can skip the Library and just get going.
It's only when you lose these sort of small extra's when you realize how important they are.
So before this get's lost.
Danke Wolfman.
Excellent work! This is perfect. Works exactly as it should on my Vox.
OK, it is now resuming the playlist (all music - shuffle), however, it doesn't resume from where it left off... It starts the same random playlist, but not in the correct place
I haven't installed this yet but am so excited I wanted to thank you immediately for developing this and making it available for free to the masses.
I use my HTC Wizard to listen to podcasts, lectures, and audio books but this has driven me crazy for 2yrs. Now, thanks to your efforts it sounds like it will be solved.
Sorry if a similar thread already exist, i used the search and i didn't find anything.
The problem is that I can't control another media player instead of windows media player with the buttons of my bluetooth device.
I have tried to install various programs like TCPMP and mortplayer, and tried to do again the pairing procedure, but when i click on the play button of my bt device, it open the damn windows media player.
Please help
I don't know what to do.
S2P
Have you ever tried S2P (Slide to Play) ?
It works great with my Sony DR-BT21G.
S2U automatically launch windows media player in background to use avcrp control.
s2p is a good software but it seems to have small bugs with spb mobile shell, for example don't start when i tap on the icon.
Anyway i think that the cause of these little bugs is mobile shell because with manila the hd was perfect (almost).
S2P & spb ms3
I'm using spb Mobile shell 3 with S2P. I don't have this kind of bugs.
Sometimes it doesn't start when I press the play button of my bluetooth headset and I have to launch it whith the shortcut. Once launched, there is no more bugs.
Have you got the last version of theses softwares ?

In my opinion, S2P is very buggy. I have tried it with different ROMs (including stock ROM) and with no other software installed - and it never seems to work right. Eventually it freezes or it looks like it is playing but it really is not, or it plays but the volume shows as being muted, when it is really not muted. And the cover-flow view is either very choppy or it goes really fast - hard to control. So, I wouldn't bother with S2P. It's unfortunate because it looks nice.
I also have the jabra bt3030 and I am only able to use it with Manila or with Windows Media Player. I don't know that there is a way to use it with other programs, but I hope I'm wrong.
So, I'm with sar3vok. If anyone knows how to do this, please let us know.
I have done some tests and have found that the mobile shell and the wktask create small noious bugs, so i think that it was the principal cause of the bugs that i have found with this mobile shell.
Anyway i'm going out topic.
If someone found a way to use a bt remote control with the HD (and without WMP) please let me know.
I hate this windows program obligation
I'm using Pocket Player
This player works fine with the bt3030.
Great!!!

And i love the conduits.
This is the 2nd program that surprise me for efficiency after pocket artist.
The conduits programmers really deserve the payment for their programs!

I just moved from Windows Phone 7.5 to Android (Nexus 4 / Jelly Bean), and have a lot of (non-DRM) music properly organized in Zune, complete with like/dislike tagging and auto-playlists. I am new to Android, so bear with me if this is a n00b question.
I am looking for something that is very close to Zune in functionality for wireless sync'ing audio from Windows 7 to Android. My most basic requirements are:
1) Be able to wirelessly sync any playlist, auto-playlist (i.e. playlist that is auto-populated based on criteria such as year, like/dislike rating, etc)
2) Be able to remove song that are given dis-like or low rating for a song from Android
3) If the app has a way to import the like/dislike ratings from Zune, that will be a *huge* bonus
4) Preferably free/ad-supported app, but not a hard requirement.
Thanks in advance..

Thanks. However, I am not looking for something that sync's with the cloud, but something that sync's with my home computer while I am home. I constantly download new music all the time and don't want to keep sync'ing them with the cloud. I am looking for something similar to Poweramp pro or Winamp, but has the above features..
Maybe Airdroid would be what your looking for
Tried air droid.. But it does not auto sync - I have to manually add files to sync..

Thanks. had already checked WinAmp. It does not have the ability to create self-updating playlists based on criteria (example all songs with rating > 4-star).. It only has something similar to smart-dj which finds similar songs based on a seed song you provide (kinda like pandora).
Tried doubletwist as well.. but that does not have AutoPlaylist either ...
Anyone used iSyncr (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jrtstudio.iSyncr&feature=more_from_developer)? That looks promising.. there is a one-time hit of configuring iTunes properly (It does not see the ratings I set in zune for each song for some reason.. all other apps are able to see it properly)... but looks like exactly what I may want.. before i drop $4 I wanted to check if anyone here used it?
Update: I tried iSyncr lite for few days and combined with their own "Rocket Player" this exactly the solution I was looking for! Converting ratings from Zune to iTunes was done using a free program called "MP3 rating friend" (google it). Additionally, my wife wants to buy an iPhone so now that my music and ratings are syncing back into iTunes it will make things simpler there.
The Lite version of iSyncr have several limitations but the biggest one is that a max of 20 songs per playlist are sync'd... so I will be dropping $4 to buy this app. The free version of rocket player is adequate for my needs (if not, I can always use doubletwist as the music player).
Thanks to everyone who replied to this thread.
What I would like to have is a nice Spotify app for the Gear Fit.
The media manager doesnt show which song is playing etc. It works for the songs played from the media player on the phone ofc but not as well with Spotify.
What i would like to be able to do:
Chose Playlist
Add songs to favourites / other playlists
See an icon with the artist like on spotify (maybe as background for the app/clock while music is playing?)
(Being able to search for music maybe isnt needed , it would be to bothersome, better pick up the phone)
Also i have a qustion about the built in memory in the Gear Fit , would it be possible to create an app which would make it possible to use the watch as a standalone medie device? like if youre going to work and dont want to bring your phone with you.
Ex: Download a spotify playlist and play it from the watch directly to bluetooth speakers or something
The real question would be how much memory the Gear Fit has , and if we can access it.
Best Regards / Christoffer
P.S If you are experienced in programming these apps, please be so kind a send me a mail , would like to learn how to make my own apps for this watch and maybe could be of help if needed Do have earlier programming experience, third year computer science engineer.
