I've looked everywhere to see where I can find a way to backup settings and files and cabs and such from my roms to make it easier to restore everything after updating roms, but I can't find a decent, easy to use program. I use the PIM program with nrg's roms but thats just contacts and the like. Bengalih got banned and the sashimi program got the boot too I guess. So my question is, does anyone know of a proper way to backup everything, or is there an actual cab or program to use?

I believe BigBadger explained this in the NRG ROM thread, but when you flash a new ROM the BEST practice is to reload all your apps, etc. from scratch. You can use a program like UC or sashimi to help automate the process, but there simply isnt' a program around that will backup everything EXCEPT all the components of the ROM, then put everything back in an new ROM.
Whenever new components are installed, they typically make a number of entries/adjustments to the Registry, plus place software where it expects things to be, and many programs put things in weird places.
Sorry, I don't think there's a single, backup program that can do what you want.
Like I said, UC or Sashimi can help with automating the load of your favorite apps, etc., but it will mean some programming on your part.
want to upgrade the rom.
need to back everything up, but how?
is there a way so that once updated i can easily put everything back on the phone with a click on the buton?
cheers
use search function of da forum.. search for "cyanogen mod"
Download MyBackup from the market. Works a treat.
Others also recommend Sprite Backup.

Do not save (or restore ?) e-mail accounts, birtdays date, and some other minor things...
Not related to the question: I think a Sticky should be made about how to backup properly and what the best backup options are. With the increasing numbers of custom (and official) ROMs, there'll be more and more threads like this.
Hello! I didn't know where else to post, so I did it here. Please relocate this topic if it is in the incorrect place because I don't know any better.
Anyway. I've installed AK Notepad on my old ROM and did a Nandroid. I have only one note in there which I'd like to extract. I have extracted the data.img and system.img on my PC and I can find the .apk, but I can't find that one note that was written in there. Is there a way to find it? Or maybe if I can't extract the note, can I copy the settings somewhere in my phone so the AK Notepad will act as if it is that one on the old ROM where I wrote that note?
Um, why don't you just make a new backup, then restore the backup with the note, email or text the note or whatever, then restore your new backup you made, shouldn't take more than ten minutes.
Yes, but still, I would like to know if this is possible.
Ak Notepad APP database internal storage
/data/data/com.akproduction.notepad/databases/aknotepad.db
pretty sure Titanium Backup also lets you install things from nandroid backups. Not sure it it's apps (or apps + data only) or if it'll let you do "data only" restores. But if you've already got it installed, might be worth a shot.
Excuse my nooberance - but I want to test out some different firmwares, roms and kernels.
Once I've installed new firmware, kernels or roms I'd like to be able to easily and quickly restore all my apps and settings. What is the easiest way to do this?
I've CWM installed and have made a backup of my current state - but is it simpler to use something like Titanium Backup as from what I understand the backup I've made with CWM is like a complete image and if I restore that image it will overwirte any other rom, kernel or firmware - but maybe I've misunderstood (quite likely - as there's a lot to learn about Android coming from a long time iOS user).
Thanks in advance.
yes you can use TiBU to restore almost anything. However it is recommended to restore only "user apps and their data". You can backup messages and call logs using samsung account or use "MyBackUp" app for it.
TiBU however is most widely used.
There are guides and tutorials for using Titanium Backup but I'll give a little info to maybe clear things up for you.
A Nandroid backup will indeed backup EVERYTHING like a complete image, so yes if you installed a new ROM or Kernel, and restored the Nandroid backup, this would overwrite and you would be back at square one. Nandroid backups are useful if you are doing modifications to the system like new themes or changes to settings etc, in case it goes wrong you can restore.
Download Titanium Backup (I do recommend getting Pro version).
Backup your USER apps only. NOT THE SYSTEM APPS.
Choose any system apps you do require (maybe)
Then on the new ROM you can just restore all your user apps.. simple..
PM me if you need any more help and I will go into more detail
Hi all,
I have a number of paid and other apps I want to make a physical backup with on my computer. I'd like to try to figure out what the .apk filename is, but the filenames are confusing and not relevant to the app that they represent. I have a Titanium backup as well as a nandroid backup, but again the filenames are not intuitive enough to figure out, and the nandroid backup is a gigantic 900mb compressed image.
That said, is there a way to figure out which filename.apk relates to which actual app?
Thanks,
Opethfan89
I'm not sure exactly how to do this, but I'm curious why you need a backup on a computer? Your purchase history is stored by Google, and apps can be re-downloaded any time you need. APK names are a mixed bag...kind of whatever the developer wants. There's probably info out there for each app, though.
