2.1 stripped by SE?

I am wondering what SE has done with 2.1. Since I thought Exchange Server was in 2.1 Native. But after installing 2.1, I have still Moxier. I can't see any option for native Exchange mail. When I use the e-mail option and enter my mailadres and credentials, it can't connect and it asks for manual installation. It then asks for only IMAP or POP, no Exchange.
Or am I doing something wrong?
SE did strip out the native active sync with exchange and left the old Moxier mail crap (still moxier mail version 2.1 when moxier even has a 2.5 out there). i downloaded from teh market a exchange program called touchdown. a bit to get used to it, but i like it
I can't understand how Google approved the kit than? They stripped out great functionality and implemented a commercial product. I want it to be integrated. Moxier works fine, but I don't want an extra application running.
By the way; have you uninstalled Moxier? Is this possible without root now?
Well i hope the devs crack the boot loader and then give us all a 2.2 rom with all the features google intented it to have.
So this is why SE took so long... wasted time stripping 2.1 of its features... ffs se what the hell
No...you are kidding....they stripped off the exchange sync?
That was the reason why I've waited a couple of week for 2.1.
Poor SE. My device will be available on e**y shortly.
Someone in need?

Martin

I totally agree. I wanted to have 2.1 as well for the ActiveSync! Now they have taken it out!!!
Removing Adobe Flash support was not cool!
Been on 2.1 for an hour and not impressed.. seems laggy but will give it some time and proper reboot later as I am sure it might be syncing up some stuff in the back ground..
I have twittered Sony Ericsson UK and NL now, but they keep on ignoring my question on why they stripped out the native Exchange support. They have probably signed a contract with Moxier or something like that?
They really b*sh*t their customers. I have asked in one tweet, two questions. They answer the first one and ignore the question on Moxier/Exchange....
I finally received an answer:
--dutch--
wij vinden Moxier op dit moment een completere oplossing bieden dan Android Exchange die alleen email en contacts synchroniseert.
--english--
We think Moxier is a more complete solution than the Android Exchange one, that only syncs mail and contacts
--
*sight* why do they decide for the customer.....?
I asked them now why not let the customers decide, now (without root) you cannot even deinstall Moxier. They replied, ofcourse answered a part of my tweet
--dutch--
zodra andriod Exchange completer is, zal die worden toegevoegd.
--english
when Android Exchange is more complete, it will be added
--
So guys, remember this quote. When it supports Calendar syncing, they will add it..... Why don't I believe this ?

[Q] Generel use / tips

Hi all!
So I just bought the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.0 and its my first tab. I have a HTC Desire cellphone, so android isn't completely unknown for me.
Even though I do have a few questions, maybe you guys can help me with.
1)
I have seen many screenshots where people have different background for each screen. One homepage, one called music to the left and maybe one called games to the right (just examples). And it look really awsome, how do I get it to mine?
2) It says it can have different email clients synchronized, but I cant get my yahoo mail to cooperate with it - I have no idea why. When I try to add another mail than Gmail (which I dont use) then it wont accept it. I did wrote to Samsung but they have no explanation or what so ever.
I'm a new user and cant post any outside links. I found the guide at a site called androidspot - how to setting yahoo mail on samsung galaxy tab.
3) generel tips! I really love my tab and think it is a great machine and can, in some place, be a substitute for a laptop. And that is what it is. I do have the feeling I dont really use all its function or just half of them.
Hope you guys can help me
And btw, I'm from Europe therefore there maybe be som function I cant use, like Move Hub (Damn! This one would be awsome to have!).

Hi
I can only answer your first Q:
Get this App --> https://market.android.com/details?id=org.tamanegi.wallpaper.multipicture
Maybe you should try to get an OTA update from Samsung to solve your mail problem.
Otherwise flash a newer ROM.
BTW: Good choice for the tablet ;-)

To get that app, should I get into the app store or should I go through your link, with my tab? I actually had no idea we were able to download direct from the internet, thought we had to go through the app store?
What is an OTA update? I recently updated the tab, so I suppose I have what we call touchwiz at the moment? I have heard the word "honeycomb", is that another OS or same thing as touchwiz?
According to this site you need to upgrade to a Yahoo! Mail Plus account.
Or try this

You can use the stock email app using these settings. I will post a video on my blog showing step by step soon.

opening this link on your tab will result in a question if you would like to open this like with the browser or the market, choose market.
OTA means Over The Air. but therefore you need to have setup an account at samsung. can be done under settings - about phone (or something - last option).

About a OTA, how do I get one? And mere important, what is it?
And yeah, hopefully it wont dissapoint me ;-) So far I'm happy for it. I have bought some games and for some reason it seems to have some problem playting them. Sometimes it suddently exit the game to the homescreen, and I have no idea why.

[Q] Request to all devs

Could all devs consider including a "stock" email app in their Rom, or at least a link to add, as I access my mail regularly on my mob and find it frustratingly awkward to re-access my Virginmedia mail client on new custom roms. Often this means me returning to stock as access to my email is a vital ingredient.
Well , not everyone uses Email nowadays...
It's not exactly a necessity , but rather adding Gmail is okay .

Tried K9 and other clones I'm on blueyonder.co.uk & 30mins of faffing about unable to connect... Stock 15secs setup all my mail up and running. That's the difference & when you try new roms at the rate they get published 15secs is plenty with the other stuff you have to personalise.

Loooking for quick office HD

Can thiIS this app be installed over AOKP? if yes, does anyone have the APK? it was included in the task rom...can i just pull it out from there?
This is no warez forum...
the OP simply might not realize that it's warez, though. After all, it came free with the stock ROM and it's also included in Galaxy Task since that is based off of the stock ROM.
but yeah, to OP: this is considered warez and is a no go on these forums. Think of it as part of Samsungs touchwiz package. Since you decided to go pure android, you decided not to use Samsungs horrible UI but you have to live with Quickoffice not being free. Use whatever means you like to obtain it, but don't tell us ;-)

didn't realize its warez, on the samsung based rom it was included, but not fully registered.
anyway consider this thread closed, i'll just purchase the app...thanks for informing me
*cough, can't as taiwan blocked play store apps.....wish they can consider pay pal
I have quick office, docs2go, but have recently been using "cloud on". I definitely recommend that as I'm finding it as functional as the other two. It's also free!
but cloud on also requires another registration and username. I installed it, was asked to register an account and instantly uninstalled it. I'd even assume that it therefore requires an online connection to be usable, but that was just an assumption as I didn't even want to bother with another account that I'll probably never use anyways, given that I have a pretty nice sollution already pre-installed on my tab.

Well, download tasks ROM, use a root explorer to extract the apk from system/apps, then sideload that apk on your new(er) rom.
OR
When on tasks ROM do a titanium backup of ALL apps, save the backup folder, flash a new ROM, install from the backup
If your original stock ROM came with the same gimped version, I do not think retrieving it this way is unethical. My tab came with polaris office though, didn't know other countries came with something different.

Task14 is based off Honeycomb, while AOKP is working with ICS. It's a crap shoot if QuickOffice will work on it. Good Luck!
I purchased quickoffice and have it running on my Desire (gingerbread), stock tab 10.1 (honeycomb 3.2), AND I purchased it for my Son who is running it just fine on his transformer prime (ics).
In short, buy it and you will not be dissapointed, it will work on ics, and unlike the gimped freemium / bloatware version that shipped with your tab a purchased version will see regular updates.
The main point, the purchased version runs great on gb, hc, and ics.

[MOD] [9/7/2012] AOSP Email attachment size 25MB from 5MB & ZIP restriction removed !

[MOD] [9/7/2012] AOSP Email attachment size 25MB from 5MB & ZIP restriction removed !
This will be my very first MOD I am posting.
After seeing how much cooler the AOSP Mail was over HTC Mail, and not to mention the extra security and certificates upgrades that the Exchange servers are going through. I decided to give it a spin.
My only let down was when i tried to attach a 8MB file, it FAILED and said that the attachment was too large..... WHAT A DEAL BREAKER.
Well, After doing some research I found out that the AOSP mail that has been out will only allow a 5MB attachment size.
I finally fixed the thing to allow up to 25MB of attachment size, b/c i was so frustrated with it, i did something about it and spent a lot of time hunting down things.
Below are three flashable zip files for your flashing pleasure.
AOSPMail_Exchange_25MB.zip is the modified AOSP with 25MB attachment size limit
OrigionalHTC_MAIL.zip will put back the original Mail.apk from HTC that came with the ICS Sense Global 3.6 - 4.03.605.2 update.
This one will assume that you flashed the AOSP mail with the Exchange.apk included in it. It will delete that Exchange.apk and put the original Mail.apk from HTC back in place.
AOSPMail_CM9_25MB.zip is the one for CM9 that was tested by someone to work with Kangs 9CM
Hope everyone enjoys and appreciates this ! I tested this out a couple of times on my Rezound and didn't have any issues using my hotmail account
A note about odex ROMS that are out there: You must delete Mail.odex in the \system\app folder to get this to work or you will get mail force close issues.
Any constructive feedback is appreciated! :good:
Don't forget to hit the thanks button if you like what i have done, and if you use my AOSP Mail.apk mod in your ROM please be sure to mention me.
Finally deciding to give back to the community in a small way at least; maybe a big one...
09/07/2012 - Added Mail for CM9 Kang with 25MB attachment limit.
12/16/2012 - Added the ability to download zip files now; zip restriction removed
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
AOSPMail&Exchange_25MB.zip MD5= dbb284d509ba1b6f5510b0d45eac8cd6
OrigionalHTC_MAIL.zip MD5= af22722cb557d8f8d327bc22926f3d76
AOSPMail_CM9_25MB.zip MD5= ac59315de142f9066df5172ffd58c3ab
this could be extremely useful to those who even use the email app.
Doesn't work on cm9 kang. Force close all mail apps now. Can't open

Ok, it looks like the email for CM9 was modified in some way ( judging from file sizes, etc ) from the one that I modified,
I pulled out the email.apk from CM9 kang and made the necessary changes.
I need someone to test this for CM9 kang.
If this works I will post it in OP

Sorry for the noob question. Thanks.

The version in the zip replaces mail.apk in \system\app in case of NON CM9 roms ( sense base ),
insertcoin uses mail.apk so make sure you used the right one ( AOSPMail&Exchange_25MB.zip )
You could also use a program like root explorer to manually place the modified files in that location in system/app and set the permissions.
12/16/2012 - ZIP restriction removed
The zip restriction for downloading zip files has been removed

awesome email apk
does this bypass the exchange security measures? any or just PIN requirements? tried it and it doesnt but the email patcher does work.
the regular aosp didnt work with my jobs exchange server for whatever reason. i would get an error but the cm9 version did on my razr maxx(xt912)
its not often but when i do send larger files via email the only gripe i had has been relieved by your apk.
thanks a bunch.

well, i think that might be a little beyond me as far as removing those exchange security measures to be honest. This was/is my first mod.
I will look into it but i think i would require extensive code modification that i am just not familiar with at the moment.

kitkat 5mb attachment limit
Hello,
I modified "AttachmentInfo.java" and "AttachmentUtilities.java" from
android 4.4 source code, then I rebuild the "Email.apk" application.
The problem is that after all those source code modifications, the 5MB attachment restriction it is still there.
What other files need to be modified?
I got to look, but it's a smali file and there is literally one one change that needs to be done in the code to get it to go to 25mb attachment size.
For the world of me I don't know who is the fool that keeps building them like this. I don't know off the top of my head atm.
Once I look up my mod notes I will reply to you message so you see it in the notifications. If you would mind reply to my post I would appreciate it as it was a coincidence that I checked this thread.
Best regards

Hi,
Thank you for the reply!
Quote "For the world of me I don't know who is the fool that keeps building them like this."
I think that the AOSP Email App is crippled because, and I will continue with something I read it somewhere, Google wants the big files to be transferred using its services: Gmail with the Gmail App, Google Drive, etc. and while transferring them back and forth, gain a little insight on their content too.
If you find your old notes, this will ease the required work to make AOSP Email a good daily driver:
- attach as much as you like to your emails (the server knows better how much it wants to accept)
- attach any files, not only jpg and video (I am not such huge multimedia freak, I want normal email use too)
- save any attachment (including the "very dangerous" zip files wich are now forbidden to be saved...)
- maybe delete directly (after confirmation) instead of moving to Trash, and then having to delete them again...
There are only 2 threads on XDA about this problem, and now. thanks to you, I am close to an answer.

I know what i did however the files were uncompiled source which i do not work off of. Furthermore, you will need to provide me with a deodexed version of the APK file in question.
