Flashlight program location/ tmous stock rom - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

cannot for the life of me locate where exactly the flashlight program is located (all in the namesake of swapping out its icon.)
the program can be turned on via start menu / tools.
however, it is not located there using icon changing programs (Change start menu icons or JWMD).
also, when using a reg editing program, it is also not located under start menu / tools (i cannot find the .lnk file!!!). though all of the other programs are there.
i have also looked under: hklm / security / shell / start to locate the .lnk and the respective icon, but again it is not located there.
i have searched around and am simply not having luck. any ideas? all this just to swap out the icon!
thanks in advance.

Stuck programs on start menu...

Hi,
I have noticed after flashing the ROM that I have two stuck items on the start menu.
Forst one is my02 and the other is Action Update. Both of these give the message "Cannot find 'my02' (or one of its components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and all the required libraries are available".
If I go into settings, menus and look at the list I can see two entries for both of the above. Either trying to untick the active one or select the inactive one gives the message "Unable to move that item".
So - is there a way to remove the ophaned items and replace them with working items??
Cheers - Rich
ok - figured it out....might be of help to others:
I went into file explorer and deleted the shotcuts from the /my device/windows/start menu folder.
All is well now...

Other than cabs from Extended_ROM, what else is installed?

Hi
After installing the HTC TyTN 1.35 ROM on my Telstra iMate JasJam, in the phone settings program -> BAND, the GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850) band had disappeared.
I installed the same radio version as the original one in the JasJam, but this particular band didn't come up.
So I re-installed the JasJam 1.31, and sure enough GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850) was back in the list.
Now, interestingly I performed a hard reset, and this time prevented the installation of all the extra software that is installed after a fresh boot by pressing the reset button just when the window "Will install customization in 3s" (or something to that effect)
When I went into the phone settings -> Band, the GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850) option had disappeared too !
So obviously it is something installed after the original boot.
Using Fit4CatTweaker , I then enabled the extended_rom and run the Autostart.exe program, and all the cab installed there were installed.
*BUT* after a reboot the GSM(900+1800)+UMTS(850) option is still not there !!
So it looks that this option isn't activated by any of the cab files located in extended_rom?
So the question is:
Is there any other programs installed after the first boot that are not located in the extended_rom drive?
When
When after the hard reset I let the JasJam install the default software, I see that it installs iMate_Smoosh.tsk software which isn't located on the extended_rom drive.
The first software to be installed by the Autostart.exe in extended_rom is Default_CAAVPPC_IMEI_2.6.83_range.CAB.
What is going on? where are the missing cab files?
Thanks
Jean-Yves
In your phones Windows directory is either a directory entitled "Preconfig" or two files called "preconfig.exe" and "preconfig.txt". If there is the directory, the two files will be in there.
You can see what is installed before the Extended ROM by looking at the contents of the preconfig.txt file. It's basically the same format as the similar file in the Extended ROM directing what is to be installed, although the preconfig.txt entries contain both XML files and CABs, something I haven't noticed from Extended ROM. It's the preconfig.exe file and the preconfig.txt file that launches AUTORUN.EXE in Extended ROM after it does the initial setup.
The most current HTC ROM's preconfig.txt file reads:
LOCK:Enabled
EXEC:\Windows\cusTSK.exe \Windows\HTC_Default.tsk (?)
EXEC:\Windows\SetHSDPA.exe /Enable (automatically enables HSDPA)
CAB: \Windows\MP_CVSDcpl_20060920.cab (adds the control panel icon for Voice Speed Dial)
XML: \Windows\PP_disconnectButtonLong.xml (adds the feature of disconnecting the data connection when you hold down the hang-up phone button for a long time)
XML: \Windows\PP_EONS.xml (?)
XML: \Windows\PP_Operator_Name.xml (?)
XML: \Windows\Brightpoint_Certificates.xml (adds Brightpoint Security Certificates)
XML: \Windows\Dangaard_Certificates.xml (same with Dangaard Certs.)
XML: \Windows\P_SMS_UnicodeEnable.sa.xml (sets SMS for Unicode ASCII)
XML: \Windows\PP_Phone_ECall.xml (?)
XML: \Windows\PP_PhoneSetting.xml (?)
Hide:Enabled
EXEC:\Extended_ROM\autorun.exe (Launches rest of post hard-reboot or ROM load setup)
LOCKisabled
RST: Reset

Hi
Thank you for that, I actually figured out which file was being installed.
Is there a way to edit the PreConfig.txt file? I'd like to add the XML entry that adds the other UMTS band...
I'm not sure I can the extra lines in the PreConfig.txt file in the Extended Rom
JY
Well, you can't use XML stuff in the Extended_Rom, it has no effect
This may sound stupid, but is there anyway to run the xml files after preAutorun has run preconfig.txt? I would like to do exactly like jyavenard and execute some of the xml files to setup all the connections settings as per Vodafone but do it after the 1.35 HTC ROM update.
Actually I'd like to do it once the device has fully hard booted and run preconfig.txt then I could just use the appropriate (large) xml file to drop the connections, network and dialer settings into the registry.
Sorry if I'm missing something but I have searched and searched to be able to do this.

Divining application registrations

Hey guys:
Quick question. I've got a bunch of apps registered on my phone. Every time I flash a new ROM I need to reenter all of those serial numbers. I was looking at the UC customization threads to see if maybe I could just create a provisioning XML to create the appropriate registry entries automatically. Problem is don't think all the apps store their registration information in the registry.
So a couple questions:
1. I've found a good way to see registry changes (and thus figure out which keys I need to update), but I can't find the equivalent for the file system. Is there a tool that can take a snapshot of the file system on the phone, and then show diffs of the current file system with that snapshot? (That way I could figure out the additional files I'd need to copy over to make apps think they're registered.)
2. Is there another mechanism, other than registry and file system, that apps use to set themselves as registered? I couldn't think of anything... but then I'm hardly a hacker. (Even though... and correct me if I'm wrong... this is not technically hacking -- the serials are valid, I just don't want to reenter 10 of them every time I flash)
3. (And this probably belongs more in the UC thread): for some reason my provisionining file has no effect whatsoever. I've verified syntactical correctness of the file, and that cabarc can successfully create a CAB out of it. I've verified that the file is "installed" during the customization step. Yet, after a reset I see none of the changes specified in the provisionining xml. Any idea how I can debug this? Is there a log file that the config program leaves somewhere?
Thanks!

Some ROM cooking questions or tips

Hello all!
I have a few things I'd last to ask, maybe someone could point me in the right direction (I searched for them). I've cooked several several ROM's now, and want to get into more advanced tweaking.
I want to continue:
Learning about how to implement registry tweaks before installation
Learning how to set a default theme (tsk) for ROM
Learning how to map functions/buttons (start menu, ok button, other WM functions) to the keypad (via registry?)
Thank you pros!
Learning about how to implement registry tweaks before installation - provxml
Learning how to set a default theme (tsk) for ROM - depends on what you use for autorun
Learning how to map functions/buttons (start menu, ok button, other WM functions) to the keypad (via registry?) - yes reg settings
Check this tutorial for cooking in reg settings; with the newer kitchens, you put the reg keys into the app.reg files instead of .rgus, but it's all the same idea. There's another tutorial in the same forum on cooking in files, and it's also well worth reading.
To find reg settings, it's easiest to first dump your registry, then make a change that will appear in the registry, then dump the registry again. Copy both reg files to your desktop and compare them with Windiff or Beyond Compare, and find out where changes occurred (ignore stuff like the time). If you want reg settings for cabs you've installed, then I'd suggest using sk tools and opening the 'installed programs' tool. Do a deep scan, and check out all of the registry settings for the program. You can also use SK Tracker to pretty much find anything you want; it's similar (but better) to the windiff method, except it does it on your ppc and it also finds changed in files and databases that occur when you make settings changes to your device.

[Q] Where can i find settings explorer?

I have heard people talk about a "settings explorer" program in windows mobile.
it could be found in the tools folder, but i can't find it anywhere.
I could use it to check and backup various settings and stuff before i start flashing new roms.
Can anyone point me in the right direction...
I can find any extra info on it in the forum, only that it should be located in the tools folder..
Just for your info:
I use a HTC HD2 (stock rom: 1.66 NLD)
go to settings tab, then menu, all settings.
