Is the weather feature predictive or showing current? - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys,
Does the weather feature actually predict the majority of the weather today or does it just show the exact current weather? Thanks.

it shows the weather for casted from http://www.accuweather.com/ so should be the weather that is predicted on there site, its not magic lol, you cant show it the sun and the phone will say oh its sunny lol

LOLOLOL, of course I knew that. what I meant was actually the accuweather site itself. could we use it for predicting the general weather of today, or does it just indicate the current weather? if it's the later, then it's pretty much useless for me.

You are right. The weather tab is useless if you want to know what it is going to be like later in the current day. Telling me what the weather is like now for the location I am in is pointless...I have eyes thank you! Also, telling me what the weather is currently like at home is also useless as you cannot teleport there instantly to experience it!
For me, the weather tab just looks nice LOL.

Well it has some good days(Accurately predictive), but also has bad days(Outside is sunny, but on my phone there are thunders )

quick question about the weather
I have a cdma touch pro 2, new to it all that....I cant find a forecast anywhere near by me...should I just turn it off all together.
It seems like alot of bloatware on this phone, I got it off a craigslist guy, we made a trade, the phone is spotless, a month old, he got an evo, instead, but ....
I keep getting Berkley up on the main screen of the phone and I live inbetween Richmond and Wash DC
Any help would be great.
Could I even try and implement Elecot weather there, I downloaded the full version because I loved it so much on my palm treo pro....
just curious

[Q] Disneyworld Navigation?

Good morning all. I am taking the little one to Disney next week. Can anyone speak to whether or not Google Maps or Street View can help me navigate through the parks?
The market has one app that I see "Disney World Maps Box Set" that has very poor ratings.
Any and all helpful thoughts are welcome.
Thanx!
have you looked at this?
http://disneyparksmobile.com/mobilemagic/
EDIT, sorry apparently this isn't an option for android phones, after a little more research it seems that the app you mentioned is the only option for us
I doubt that Street View would work inside the parks, but satellite view should. Also, this mobile site is pretty useful:
http://m.disneyworld.go.com/
Honestly you don't need your phone to maneuver around the parks. Disney has everything laid out nicely and there are the old fashioned paper maps everywhere at every stand. The only thing I used my phone for was to track how many miles a day i was walking

i have been several times, my favorite place in the world and the above is true. also, one of the best parts is just roaming around looking at every thing, you will never get bored and there is always something to see.
but if you really want maps for the parks, you can try this:
xttp://disneyworld.disney.go.com/wdw/myVacation/customizedMaps/index?id=CustomizedMapsSampleMapsPage&bhcp=1
i know its not on the phone, but you can personalize them to what you want to do and everything. take a look, they are neat.
wasn't Disney World actually offering specially modified Eris' for this purpose? I think I read an article about it somewhere...
here it is... found the article!

I guess this was just a test though... not sure if it is actually in use...

I had too- bought the New IPAD but listen!

I just got the "New IPad" and I have to say that I am not impressed at all. I have never used IOS before and it sucks Android on the Prime is what is going on, for real, and to be honest you cant even tell all that much the screen resolution difference it isn't that drastic! The New Ipad does look cleaner I will give it that but its just boring , so far its went something like this - Go to App Store find app ........... Wait (put in password-what)for an App to download ......... takes forever ......... Done finally ........ Play or use app. Why do the apps take so long to download then you have to type in your pass every time you download an app, that's crazy. I like my freedom, I heard it was hacked already I don't know how much freedom that will bring. No customization at all, I don't know if I wanna keep this thing or not. The Prime is way better so that's coming from someone that owns both. Get a Prime or just ............. Boring so far at least.
I didn't get a chance to try it out at the store because Walmart keeps them behind glass where I live. So i guess there to precious to touch, unlike all the androids that are out too display, use and try them out at will. It was the last one of the IPads so I figured I would buy it and if I didn't like it I would take it back haven't decided yet of course I'm going to give it a few days to see if I like it at all. So far I think it will see Walmart again. Here are some Pics I took side by side.

What kind of customization are you looking for? I never could understand the amount of time people spent staring at their widgets on the home screen.

So what are your complaints about either of the devices anyways?
Great, you have a Galaxy Note as well . I've got all the three devices as well. Unfortunately, my Prime doesn't get too much usages, since I bought Note.
I have a good prime now except for Wifi and BT together sometimes goes out. Gonna get that fixed hopefully. But I get really good download speeds all around the house with the prime. I just wanted to try the IPad out because I have never owned one before so I figured I would give it a try. I don't just sit and stare at widgets though, you must be talking about someone else but they are nice to have, don't you agree? As you can tell I don't have my Prime all set up yet with widgets and all that other stuff. It just feels more comfortable to operate, but like I said this is my first IOS go, so it might get better, who knows? I'm only giving my INITIAL IMPRESSIONS of IOS and my experience with Android Initially was better, that's all!!!
I might pull my Prime out and see how many widgets I can put on the front page. Hell I might put Widgets on every page, nothing but all widgets, actually that might look nice. At least I know it would have the horsepower to operate in that fashion.

The widgets and customization are important for how useful they make the device to each individual user. I don't know about everyone else, but I have my home screens setup in such a way as to provide all of my necessary information available at a glance, along with widgets that allow me to do things like create new notes, create tasks, etc. with a single tap.
I don't spend a great deal of time staring at the widgets. Quite the opposite, in fact. Just a quick glance shows me everything I need to know. Getting at that same info on an iPad would require a whole bunch of tap icon, open app, tap home button, tap icon, open app, tap home button, tap button, open app, tap home button, rinse, repeat, over and over.
Tedious and inefficient...

Right they are good to look and see what info you think is important real quick without interning into a program and the tap tap tap stuff. I personally would rather save my time take a quick look oh it's looking nice tomorrow and the next couple days, I'm running at good temps, My clock speed is what I want, I see my news flashes, etc. widgets widgets widgets man!

Exactly. I don't understand how Gary just thinks people sit there and stare at them. I personally have news, weather and gmail widgets. It's nice to not have to launch three apps to get a quick glance at everything. I can just scroll through the gmail widget and see if there are even emails I need to read and the same goes with news articles.
Widgets are interactive not just static, just much quicker to do the menial tasks.

The customization you'll get from jail breaking is pretty much themeing and it slows the device down, there's no way to get more performance out of it. The things you'll be able to do once jail broken, you can do more on unrooted android..
I guess since development started slow people are second guessing? Believe me, things are coming, things are being worked on. That's just me, 40+hrs a week construction slows things down, im sure theres others like me. Check my git, stuff is slowly being added to my kernel. After that, aosp w/ some things.
>I personally have news, weather and gmail widgets. It's nice to not have to launch three apps to get a quick glance at everything.
How often do you need to check on news/mail/weather?
I check the weather once a day; mail, about once every couple of hours; news, never. If I want to read news, I'll fire up the browser.
It's a preference. I personally view widgets that have constantly updated content a distraction. Neither do I like live wallpaper. I'm a minimalist who dislikes eye candy.
iPad's lack of multitasking is a weakness, but is also a strength, depending how it's used. On a mobile device, multitasking isn't as important. iOS obviously is very responsive, is arguably more stable, and with a simple UI for anyone to navigate. I wouldn't hand an Android tab to my non-tech parents, at least not without tutoring them in its use.
Each platform has its fortes and foibles.
BTW, as a public service for Prime users, consider this a request to the mod to close this thread.

+1 most kiddies on here think it takes 15minutes to prepare and cook and bake a rom/kernel/theme and it really pisses off some devs out there.
Ok I had to respond. I too own a Transformer Prime, new iPad and a ATT galaxy note. You can't honestly say you can't see a difference between screens. The iPads screen to me "27 YO Old 20/20 eyes" is farrrr crisper and clear. It seriously looks magazine page printed clear. Now before people get all hot in the pants I love my Prime too. But posting pictures or viewing a video over the web of course you aren't to be able to tell. All three devices have Pros and cons. Maybe if you had a super high end camera you could see the difference.
As a Prime owner for 2 months I was blown away by the new iPads screens as far as text clarity, zero light bleed, and very accurate color calibration and saturation. The note has the best color saturation but sometimes it looks overblown in movies. People's skin look pinkish etc. Wish I had the international version, you can change the picture mode like movie, standard etc. But the blacks on the Super Amoled are crushing the iPads LCD screen. So resolution isn't everything.
All three devices have their purpose. I haven't used a iPad since the 1st generation, and using it for a few days am impressed with its super snappiness, very fluid UI etc. So if your a person who likes to change your widgets, icon layout, live wallpapers than obviously the iPad isn't for you.
I bought it for the GF and play with it time to time. Especially using the direct tv guide app that android doesn't have yet. It's nice not getting hang up, or freezes or forces closes. But stil love the Prime and my Note. What the iPad is built to do, it does it well. I'll just say that.
And of course so does the Prime but it ultimately boils down to user preference. Not everyone like my GF needs to over clock, or add a custom rom etc...
One thing I've noticed that I like the iPad over the prime more is web browsing it the 4:3 ratio. Less scrolling and more content on the page. But.... Obviously the Prime wins for videos with its 16:10 and 16:9 ratio. But I only really use YouTube on my note, prime and iPad. The workhorse is my Samsung D8000 Plasma.
Please no ripping me, I gave honest non biased points. Good post thought. Do what I did use both for about a week. Than see if you feel the same. I too planned to return the iPad if we didn't like it. But I might hang onto it, along with my Prime. The GF wants too kill me, says I have too many gadgets. Prime, Note and iPad lol.

Whether I check throughout the day as well as email. I ride a motorcycle and live in Texas where thunderstorms come out of nowhere sometimes. I also work as a software developer where my current role is support of production systems handling millions of dollars a day so I check email constantly. For the news its mostly tech blogs and like to just read the blurbs to decide if I want to read the full article or not.

Well if you want to check your different updates (new mails on several accounts, agenda, twitter, facebook, news, weather, ... I could go on), you can see it all by just turning on your screen, instead of having to launch each app separately.
Also, it allows you to have widgets for shortcuts like switching wifi/bt/gps/... on and off with a single click, or anything else you might want to do without having to go through apps, menus, ....
If you don't see the advantage of that, then I can't help you..

I usually add widgets just to add them on my note and prime. The weather and clock is more important to me.
Compared to iOS using toggles can be helpful for wifi, gps etc. but 8 out of 10 times I'll click the actual app icon lol.

Well, obviously, if you define a scenario where such things are unimportant, then you're defining away the advantages of instant access to information. Now, most of the productive people I know need to have constant access to a wide variety of information, and indeed it's access to information that tablets (and indeed the iPad) are most often touted for. You know, how they can be used to get information quickly without resorting to booting a PC, etc.
So, if easy, fast, and convenient access to information is important, and widgets provide the easiest, fast, and most convenient access to it, then they should be pretty hard to dismiss as an advantage. This is why more and more reviewers are talking about how the iPad is nice hardware and has a smooth UI, but it's getting a bit long in the tooth in terms of the functionality provided by iOS.

Tech Buzz replacement?

Hi guys,
Was a disappointment when i saw this morning that tech buzz will no longer be showing android news Or any news for that matter. Can some one suggest anything comparable? Would be helpful, thanks!
Yeah I was disappointed when I saw the message, now on the hunt for a replacement too. I have engadget but I want an Android news ticker as well that grabs from all the sites.
I was sad to see them to as well. I've been using the widget for over 2.5 years.
I kind of like "Android News" by Pinenuts Android Developers. Not a widget, just an app, but it has a lot of the feeds I like. Unfortunately their latest version removed one of my favorite feeds (Droid Life).
Has anyone found any good replacement?
Nothing yet. I have been using Drippler but its a far cry from Techbuzz widget. It wont update very often and sometimes I have to reboot to get it to sync with new news, and even then its on aound 1 or 2 things. I really wish TB would come back with their widget... loved that thing and never realized how much I relied on it till it was gone.
Androidandme.com has decent news items, but they are slow to update. Unfortunately I have to use Engadget more than anything else for Android updates.
Go a search on Google Play or Amazon app store for: Filtr Tech
I can't post a link to it because I'm new to the forums.

LG phone preinstalled alarm clock has strange permissions. What's going on?

Hey,
There is this LG LII optimus series phone, it was bought at a physical reputable store, haven't been changed whats so ever (not a single new program was added).
I've just noticed that the alarm clock app that came preinstalled has the following permissions:
-Your personall information- read call logs, read your contacts.
-Network communication-full network access.
-Phone calls- read phone status and identity.
-System tools-
-Network communications- view network communications, wifi connections.
-Development toos- test access to protected storage.
-Hardware controls-
-Run at start up.
- Modify system settings.
My initial reaction was "WTF?", but I'm probably missing something...
So, dear XDA pundits, what gives? Is it something legitimate or NSAFBICIAGCHQLEAOTHERLAWAGENCIESCRIMINALSMARKETERSPRIVATEINVESTIGATORSTINFOILHATPROFILIERS1984 much?
Thanks.

I have the L7 II and i have same permissions as you and they seem normal to me. Only one i don't have is developer one but i think it is just fine.
Thank you for the response.
By 'normal' I pressume you mean that they are not spying/have the potential to spy on your phone? How do you know that?
Thx.
P.S A friend of mine told me yesterday about the affair with LG's spying tvs which was exposed a month or two ago...In my opinion 'creepy' wouldn't do justice in describing it.

If someone wants to spy on your phone they will do that by any means. Anyway every device and electronics you have around you can "spy". I would say do not worry about it.
LOL, thats not very reassuring. I was hoping more for an an answer along the lines of "I've checked the internet traffic for the app, and based on its size, frequency and destination it can only be used for so and so..." or "The program size is too small to contain enough commands for both spying and provide its functionality"...
I guess you have a point in the fact that if you are getting bummed you might as well relax and think of England, but... I don't know, I suppose I want to be sure first of what is actually happening, and if indeed it is something bad...Well at the very least maybe I can cry out.
Anyway, thank you!
If some other developer knows why is it like that, I would love to hear.

How is S-Voice?

One of my greatest hesitancies in going with a non-Android smartwatch OS is the terrible lagginess of S-Voice in the past compared to the lightning speed of Google Now.
For those who own the watch, how responsive is S-Voice as far as texting, asking for information, etc?
Thanks. First look at this watch in the store I thought it was too big and geeky for me, but still fence-sitting a bit. I now wear a Rolex Submariner so this would be a big switch style wise.
Just tested it out myself. It's not as blazing fast as Google Now, but it's better than it was an acceptable.
You won't be able to get quick answers like "When is the Redskin's next game" without being redirected to the phone. Someone said we could get Google Now on this Gear S. Will have to research that.

I switched from my Rolex Submariner also, so I know how you feel. It's not too large, but it is definitely instantly recognizable as something more than a watch even at first glance. Still it blends in well.
S voice is pretty decent, haven't use it much but it's pretty smooth and fast. Google now is nice, but it's always been way too much of an internet search to be 100% perfect as a personal assistant.

Well one of the nice things about Google Now is I can say, "What is the score of the Redskin's game?" and the answer will appear on the watch. With SVoice it will just link me to the answer on my phone which kind of defeats the purpose of asking the watch in the first place.

Yeah they are both better in their own ways. S voice is nice and straight forward but limited, where Google now is much broader, but sometimes too broad. A good example is sometimes when I say "call Mario" it gives me an internet search for super Mario bros. Now I'm not sure why it sometimes does this, and other times calls my contact.
So far S Voice is so laggy and generally weak that it is almost useless. If I say "When is George Washington's birthday?", sometimes it just spins and spins then finally recognizes the words but never gives me an answer. The response to this using Google Now would be almost instantaneous.
I just don't get it. Samsung has had S Voice from freakin YEARS now, why does it still SUCK so bad?
Between that and the weakness of the Navigation app (no driving directions - what?!) this watch is losing it's charm for me quickly. Why is Samsung SO bad at software?
**UPDATE: I think part of the problem with the lagginess is due to the fact Sprint puts their Gear S on the horrific 3G network. ATT uses 4G. Why would Sprint go 3G when 4G was possible? Inexplicable.
Still, I can't believe S Voice can't answer something as simple as when a football game is without redirecting me to the phone. I mean, my god, come on.
It's nowhere near as good as Google Now, but it works for things like sending texts, setting alarms, and checking the weather in a city

This is my experience too. I had a Moto 360 and it could do much more but too frequently made mistakes on basics. S-Voice is near perfect for calls and messages and alarms and voice memo. I am happier with S-Voice but really missing setting calendar appointments and reminders (tasks). Anyone think Samsung will add those like they have for the phone?

I started a bounty thread for the Google ware to be ported over to the GG, G2, G2Neo. but was beaten down about the difference in the processors and such so i abandoned the thread since it was getting more flack then support.
But yes, I agree. Google now would be AWESOME for this watch.

there's gotta be something in it for them to get involved.
1k devices = no dev
millons = tons of apps.
This watch needs to sell a bunch to get dev interested or Samsung to run another dev competition.
This is by far the best watch on the market. I had the gear 1, 2 and now the S. Loving it
