Leo hangs on SMS - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Problem: my Leo becomes slow while:
- new SMS is arriving,
- SMS is pressed to see this contact's history,
- all SMS button is pressed.
ROM: 1.48.411.1
Fixes: I've checked manufacturer's site htc.com for fixes, seems they have SMS service improved for ROMs 1.66 and older, but device reported this fix is not compatible.
Question: Is there fast solution for my ROM without flashing?
Thanks.

Any recommendations?

I was going to say to upgrade to 1.66 and install the last hotfix as it works. It really does. However you suggested that it doesnt install, enough though it should given your current ROM.

SMS/Email received, but no notification(s)

Is anyone else having problems with their Qtek 8500, where SMS and/or email messages are received, but with no notification, regardless of selected profile? If you go to "Messaging", the number of messages are correctly displayed adjacent to the appropriate type(s) of message(s).
Classic example for me: the phone is on the table next to me; a little while later, I open the phone to find that I received subsequent SMS and/or email messages but was not alerted to their arrival.
Usually a set of soft reboots in quick succession will restore the alerting.
To make sure this behavior is not related to the various "unsigned" utilities I choose to run, I hard reset the phone back to the original Qtek settings and used the phone for less than a day before the problems started again.
I read somewhere the older STAR100 models (iMate Smartflip, Qtek 8500) had some bug in the deep-sleep mode, and I'm wondering if the bug has not been completely fixed.
reinstall the ROM instead of hard reset
Or flash with official 3.6.261.0 Qtek ROM

Will this work? Is there a chance that this problem occurs due to an installation fault?

Where can I get it? Here in Greece we are still on 3.6.251.0.
Actualy I am using also 3.6.251.0, which I found on expansys (link in the forums). I tried to google 3.6.261.0, but all the results are some russian forums. So I guess that the ROM will be custom, or it'll be a only Russian language (which is not good for me LOL).
Erofich: can you tell us where did you get it, what are the languages in there, and what are the changes? Perhaps could you post also radio versions,...........?
My_Immortal: if you don't want to flash, get app called DontForget - http://magazin.softimage.cz/?page_id=26
Whenever you miss a call/SMS/email/....., after desired amount of time it lets you know that you are missing something (LOL). Well just try it
It is an official 3.6.261.0 russian qtek rom with also english and other european languages and t9:
http://www.myqtek.ru/downloadRom.as....30_QtekRUS_Ship.exe Russia, 26 February 2007
Sounds good, thanks for the link. However I am not able to download it, as it says "Only Brightpoint authorized original products are supported by this site. Contact your place of purchase for ongoing support of your device" (typical, damn).
Do you know what are the changes, or can you post the changes or updates included in this rom?
You can download it from rapidshare
http://rapidshare.com/files/25977944/817887-ruu_star100_3.6.261.0_02.67.30_qtekrus_ship.exe
LOL Thanks a lot, I found a rapidshare link few minutes before you posted the answer.
However, I think that in this ROM are no changes from 251.
See it yourself:
SK_QtekRUS_3.6.261.0_Ship.nbh - size 42*723*985, creation time 19.10.2006, 21:54
SK_QtekEUR_3.6.251.0_Ship.nbh - size 42*723*985, creation time 19.10.2006, 18:21
So I checked the content.. Well there are some differences (995). But I think that there are probably no changes at all. Maybe language files, dunno..
Does anybody know, what are the changes (if there are any) the 3.6.261 ROM?
edit: I checked just 20 lines, and as it seems now, only dates (time) are different in there.. I didn't check more, though.

I have Don't Forget installed. But since there's no notification on the phone,
there's nothing to notify me about, so it doesn't work.
Thanks for the advice though!
Iris
Hm, then try to backup your data (ie with Sprite Backup), hard reset your phone, and instal only few apps a day. Then the problem may be easier to locate..
i had the exact same problem. turns out the culprit IS the program called don't forget. i whipped it out of my startup folder and rebooted, and sent myself a text, and my phone buzzed for the first time in weeks. I had it installed to stop the led from blinking. Guess ill have to find some other solution...
Found Possible Solution!
I had this problem (no SMS notification at all) despite all correct settings.
I had made the following registry tweak, and this was the culprit.
Registry Tweak to Hide "Outlook" in Messaging:
Rename the "ActiveSync" folder.
Example,
Before: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc\ActiveSync
After: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Inbox\Svc\xActiveSync
I reverted the above change (i.e. renamed the folder back to ActiveSync), and lo and behold, it fixed the problem.

Do you know about this one (maniac's smartjournal)?
http://maniac.fschreiner.de/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=7&Itemid=25
It is not onboard, keeps your calendar clean and you have it in Outlook still (as part of the journal).

Looks interesting, but requires a desktop app to sync to the Outlook journal. I'm trying to setup something I can sync to my Google Calendar, but in way that'll keep my appointments and what not separate from the phone calls.....but so far the best I've gotten to work is assign calendar categories and using that info to filter the calendar.
odd i'm getting an unsuccessful install message when tryin to install this on my WIZARD with the last .net framework installed running winmo 6.1
Interesting idea.. i'd like to use such a thing as i need a lot of specific calls to be logged as appointments
i got it working i guess it didn't download all of the file
this is a pretty nice program thanks

how did you get your working, i still cant get mine
i redownloaded the program and then installed it seemed to work phone after that
I installed it and it seemed to be working fine...
Unfortunately once I restarted my ppc - it apparently hanged and I couldn't get to home screen! I de-installed it and ppc restarted ok. (well, I had to remove one file from the startup folder by hand!).
I'm not sure if this could be a compatibility issue with other tools installed but I would really love to see this issue resolved as this functionality seems very interesting, indeed.
Thanks.
Maybe a problem with non-English PPCs:
The startmenu shortcut was placed into \windows\startmenü\programme\programs\phonelog.ink
It should be only \windows\startmenü\programme\phonelog.ink
I use a german device.
edit: Can you change this into a service? Currently the options windows is running all the time and we have to remove it manually from the taskmanagers. Also in low memory situations a service will not be shut down by windows mobile.
oh i didn't think this was a service but death confirmed that it is a service
After looking into the windows starup: This IS a service.
The application runs as a service, but is launched by a shortcut in the startup folder.

What kind of device/rom are you running? I've personally use a Touch Diamond, but have tested it on a Sprint Touch Pro and have seen it prevent TF3D from launching properly. I have no clue what is going on but a quick soft reset fixed the problem. I have noticed that when you start/stop the service from the configuration GUI that it sometimes shows a never ending hourglass that will only go away if you launch another application....almost like the service is getting focus and getting caught in a loop, so I wonder if that is what causes TF3D to fail to launch...like it's waiting for the service exe to finish executing before allowing TF3D to load.
rrife, I've got an ASUS P552w (winmo 6.1 pro - Portuguese) and I'm running ThrottleLauncher 0.9.7. I had exactly the same behaviour you described: when I installed it showed a never ending hourglass that only went away when I launched another application. With the soft reset it never allowed TL to load. So I went to start menu and deinstalled it.
Could it have something to do with the startmenu placement as referred by LordDeath, since I have a Portuguese rom?
Thanks

Yeah I've gotten the never ending hourglass a couple times as well. I think it's how I'm launching the service exe, for some reason it's getting focus and not releasing it until you manually give focus to another application. It's not really a problem, just annoying. I did fix the installer so it'll work with non-English devices.
Thanks, rrife. I'll give it a try and feedback the results afterwards.
I did another re-install. I run PhoneLog GUI and hit start - it shows the never ending hourglass that only goes away when I launch another application. I select run on startup and soft reset. Again I can't get TL to load. I have to go to programs, run PhoneLog GUI and hit stop. This way TL now is able to load.
Any ideas!?! Thanks.
EDIT: I deinstalled again and I still get the error message (after softreset) from PhoneLogService.exe saying that it is not possible to open file 'PhoneLogService'.
Looks great ... trying now...
Would next version be able to change text for "PHONE CALL" which apears in the calendar in the end? I would like to change it to my language though.
Thank you

Sorry, guess I didn't think too much about non-English speaking people. I'll add some registry settings in the next release so you can change the text that is used on the calendar.

04/13/2009 nerdstrap's rom build 21042.1.6.0

New ROM chef here... It's taken me a few weeks to get the hang of it, but I finally have a rom that builds, flashes and runs stable!
My Goals: to keep the Titan up to date with a clean, stable and fast rom
Details:
XIP 21041
SYS 21042 - built from Topaz Core and Iolite QVGA SYS.
Drivers/OEM - built from Sprint and DCD 3.2.6
Changes from 4/13/2009 build (21042)
1. Voice Command restored
2. updated htmlnote.dll - unread sms issue resolved
3. updated keyboard driver so that the special characters work on the Owners Info phone textbox
Issues:
1. The WMP video playback issue still exists... I haven't uncovered the reason yet???
Features:
1. Clean - no added OEMs beyond core
2. Fast - 21042 is blazing
3. Free Memory - I installed Oxios and I regularly have 26,000+ free after boot
4. IE6
Built using Bepe's kitchen and based off of DCD's 3.2.6 base - I haven't recreated all of 3.2.6, but it's getting there
TODO:
1. clean up Windows directory
2. upgrade control panels
3. tweak more of the registry
4. create kitchen
Downloads:
1. ROM via Rapidshare
2. DCD carrier cabs
As always, flash at your own risk! Let me know what you think
I have no idea why there hasn't been any replies on this, but I loaded this ROM and it seems to run fine. I'll post more info if I find anything wrong/nice/etc. about it.
21040 build gave me some issues with my UC. I'll give this one a try tommorow, is almost bedtime here now. but 26 at boot sounds good to me since i use m2d.
Can anyone provide a non-RapidShare mirror to the ROM? It keeps saying I'm already downloading a file even though I am not. RapidShare doesn't play well with my ISP.
I don't know if it was the new ROM or not, but my phone surprised me this morning!!!
Normally, when a call comes in, my PRIUS plays a generic ringtone while my phone plays a custom ringtone.
This morning, the custom ringtone came through my car speakers!!! It didn't play on my phone at all?
Is this a feature of the newer bluetooth stack in the OS? If so, I am loving it!
I am running the ROM right now and it has a lot of free memory. I have had no problems thus far.

I think when I was running Reloaded 1.3.4 the phone would wake up when I got a call but the only sound came through my Bluetooth headset. Maybe a headset works differently from the car though.
Just flashed it.
Only problem I've found so far is that, just like DCD 3.3.4, Windows Media Player will not play any videos.
I also noticed that IE isn't quite as smooth as it is in Skip's ROM.
Edit: Played with it a little more and it also seems to have the unread text messages issue that has been plaguing a lot of recent ROMs I've tried (Skip's also has it).
Does you ROM use "User Customization". It's so simple and powerful or is there something new and better? Creation of a bare install and let user add whatever they want.
What is UC? It is a feature contained in UC capable ROMs. A UC capable ROM extends initial customization to your SD card so you can load cabs and install XML files that are located there too. What this means is that once you get your customization scripts right, you can flash any UC capable ROM and all your apps and settings will be restored as part of the initial customization process whenever your SD card is inserted in the slot.

26+ after reboot is cool but what about running it normally. I constantly can't get anything over 10 during the day adn thats on a good day. After a long day of using it I am tired of resetting my device every like 3 minutes.
I had four freezes randomly throughout the day yesterday resulting in having to soft reset. Loved the free memory, but need some stability.
I haven't had it freeze up on me at all??? What programs are you using?
User Customization is installed.
I am going to fix the threaded sms unread problem and video playback today!
Has anyone ever had incoming text messages show up from "Sprint Operator"? It just started yesterday and it's weird... Its from a known person in my contacts too, but the number shows as 0???

Nothing crazy. I am using:
HHC with the 6 tab plugin
Enlarged start menu
S2U2 1.50
1-Calc Lite
Ariel Battery
Finger Menu 1.10
nueLight
Oxios Memory
PdG touchflo 2 dialer
Total commander
TouchBack v 1_0
Google maps
The same stuff I run on every rom. Anything else that I use (media player, IE) were on the rom.
It tends to freeze up right after being removed from my cradle by my desk.
I run Nerdstrap's stock rom with Aerial battery and do not experience any freezing. Actually, this is probably the most stable and fastest rom I can remember running.
Thanks!

the text messaging system in the more recent 6.1 builds is KILLING ME!! it's not just unread either, sometimes it won't save them (so if you soft reset, you lose stuff) or the the way it handles messages that couldn't be sent. (
But this sounds like a cool rom, and if I get some free time, I'll try it out. Though I'm probably gonna get a vogue soon. :/
--delete. wrong tab :x--
Is this WM6.5?
new build to be uploaded around 4pm...
fixed the unread sms
fixed the video playback
Cycomachead - sms can be lost during a soft reset if the registry has not been flushed. I use nuePowerCPL to commit the registry before I perform a soft-reset for this reason alone.
JukEboXAuDiO - 6.5 builds are number with 211###, this is still a 6.1 rom 210###
uploaded new version
1. fixed threaded sms unread issue
2. updated keyboard driver
3. didnt fix video playback in wmp
meh, screw wmplayback, just install TCPMP-0.72RC1-ARM-PPC-recomp-03.CAB

Some issues with DCD's 4.1.2

Hi all,
I just unlocked and installed a customized rom for the first time.
I decided to go with DCD's 4.1.2 rom.
It's working great, I love its minimalism, for the first time my phone is running extremely smooth and fast.
I am having a few minor issues though:
1) Whenever I receive some text messages and then close them, its not marking them as read correctly so the home screen still says there are some unread text messages even if i already read them. I am using threaded txt messages.
2) Im not sure where the "active windows" thing went, so now i can't figure out how to close running applications other than going to the task manager and killing them all from there. Is there an app that i could install for that or something?
3) The keyboard seems to be randomly repeating characters sometimes, for example I type "b" and its writing "bbb" and some keys are not responding, for example i press "y" and it doesnt do anything and i have to go back and retype it.
Thanks a lot in advance for your help.
1. I believe is a MS bug try searching the forums I think there maybe a workaround.
2. Task manage in the programs menu.
3. I just loaded DCD 4.1.2 tonight and the keyboard appears to work ok?
I am flashing to a one of Ryan's ROMs to see if 6.5 works for me.
Most of your issues are discussed in the original 4.1.2 thread.
The task manager is the only way to kill programs without installing another program to do it.
I use "quickmenu" for closing apps, as well as hibernation an ram clearing. For your sms problems, search out "losers sms fix" clears it right up. As for the keyboard input, thats an oddity. I've been using dcd's stuff for some time. Possibly try reflashing or a hard reset.. Get yourself a PIMbackup prog to assist in transferring your contacts an such
i also had keyboard repeat problems with 4.1.2
it was also my first rom
i moved on to ryanmogul lite rom and its really great
more free memory than dcd's, the taskbar button is back, runs smoother overall imo
less work modifying the registry as ryan has already included many of the common hacks as well

2.1 stock Hero ROM annoyance - Contact not recognized.

I just installed the (long waited) 2.1 stock EU ROM.
All looks nice and fast but:
My wife called and the number appeared as (Unkown) caller.
All my contact numbers are in international format, i.e. +country code phone number.
I need to keep this format because I travel abroad on frequent basis.
I did not have this issue on 1.5 ROM but I remember having the same on my previous TouchPro.
Is this an HTC issue?
Thanks.
Please help !!!
Hi...
i got the same Problem...
I hope someone can help!!!
THX
I got another problem ...
The SD Card that is not recognised by some applications like Astro (file deletion generate an error) or RSS application (not possible to access the SD Card).
I had to uninstall and install the apps again.
There's a whole list:
http://community.htc.com/na/htc-forums/android/f/17/t/2526.aspx
This is for issues on the Sprint Hero in the US, but since the user interface layer of the software is largely identical most of these issues apply to out Heros too.
What annoys me most is, that they didn't fix old bugs.
You can't select text in the browser with your trackball, which SHOULD work, since they have a special cursor showing up, that hardly moves. At least in 1.5 it moved (although even then you couldn't really use it to select text).
I don't need to select with the trackball, but he current alternative by roughly tracing the text with your finger is NOT accurate at all.
I sent this issue with 1.5 to customer support and back then they replied, that it would be fixed in the 2.1 upgrade. Then, after I saw the Legend and Desire introductions in Barcelona where they showed of those cool Browser features (selecting text with your finger by placing two pins then translation and other stuff pops up) and I was certain this bug is fixed.
So I updated to 2.1 yesterday and behold... the browser doesn't have these features and doesn't allow for precise text selection either
I can understand, that they don't add the new features, but to the expense of keeping a bug??? Why didn't they just add the new selection method without the extended features like translation and such.
Another annoyance for me is that in the Dialer I cannot deactivate the Haptic feedback when dialing
and the second and bigger in my opinion is that the SIM contact are shown in the dialer (on 1.5 they where hidden if you decide to hide in the contact settings)
and in the recieved call, the system decide (I still don't understant how ) if to show SIM or Google contact.
A friend of mine has same problem as you.
He has google contacts and phone contacts.
The number of phone contacts has a blank, juste after the international code. I tried to remove this blank and now the number is recognized.

This did not work for me and it is a show stopper.
2.1 did not bring any value to me so I reverted to 1.5 and I am now a happy camper.
