Since just yet my registry edits are rolled back after a soft reset. When I alter some registry settings with for instance BSB Tweaks, I can see the changes are made with a registry tool. But after a soft reset all registry changes are reverted.
What happened??
What can I do to fix it?
Please help!!
Some tweaks like the "keep wifi on in standby" always revert back after a soft reset.... Its not just you dont worry........
I wish it was as simple as that. I'm sure the changes I make are meant to be preserved...but they aren't.
if you list the ones your concerned about ill check them against mine and let you know if its the same.....
I still think it has nothing to do with specific settings, but with registry persistance in general. But to humour you I'll give an example.
None of the Led notification settings in BsB Tweaks survive a soft reset.
when you say soft reset, you arent doing a hard reset are you?
Long shot i know, but thats all i can think of as to why tweaks would get reset.
That really is a long shot! No, it's not like BsB Tweaks had disappeared entirely after a reboot.
I'm telling you: It's like the registry is in a read only state and changes are only made in memory, but aren't persisted in the registry itself.
It's not just with BsB tweaks. That's just a handy tool to edit the registry without diving in there yourself. Although I think I'm capable enough to do so. I checked some settings in the registry after making them with BsB Tweaks.

hello all,
im a frequent to this site, although i dont own a xda.. but i like what you guys accomplished till now ...
now.. my question is: in jeff's kitchen, there is an option "Lock all keys except power button while off " which works for pp2k2 devices.
anyone can tell me how this tweak works? is it a special programm or what?
thanks in advance, banshee
No, it is not a special programm, but you can also set it manualy in your settings of the xda. I think it will only set a Option in the registry...
Regards
Stefan
It's a registry setting. "Funny" thing is that WM2003 stores the setting in the same place in the registry, but somehow resets this registry value to its default when it cold-boots, which is why I made the setting "PPC2002 only".
hmm thats a pitty... i would have liked to enable the same setting on my ipaq...
could you show me where this is located?
im not in the position to create my own roms at the moment - but id still like to try it
As the "Lock Buttons" facility is under MORE on PHONE>OPTIONS in PPC2002 (along with auto-answer) and MORE does not exist under WM2003 (at least not with a 4.00.11/4.21 combination) is it possible to manually add a setting in the registry to activate auto-answer? If so, what? What is the entry for PPC2002? Could we try that?
Does anyone have a list of possible settings for various cosmetic items in the registry? I've already adjusted the scrollbar size (I'm in VGA mode), and while I was in that part of the registry I noticed other settings which looked interesting. Is is possible to change things like font sizes in menus, dialog box size, etc? In particular I'd like to make title bar and clock fonts a little bigger. VGA mode is nice, but the Text Size option in Screen Settings doesn't change everything, just some things.

This is what I am looking for as well.
Try using Tweaks2k2.NET.
tweaks2k2 has a problem with soft reset. If you use this, better avoid using the software triggered reset. Use stylus instead. Otherwise you may be forced to hard reset your unit. I've reported the problem to the company and was given the above advice.
Sktools does not have this problem.

I'm not aware of the problem. Thanks for warning me.
Tweaks2k2 has been around for years so I'm surprised to hear that such an issue has just surfaced -- perhaps whoever identified it can be more explicit in what he discovered and Frank Garcia's response. I've used Tweaks2k2 on my Advantage x7500 running WM6 a number of times w/o incident.
I have reproduced this many times on my devices already. Over a period of two to three days I has about 20 hard resets. It happens whenever I was using tweaks2k2. I have been using it in wm5 without any problem so I didn't suspect it at first.
Specifically, when you try to do hard reset required in order to effect the registry change, the system freezes at the primary splash screen. It will not proceed to the secondary flash. You also could not switch it off. If you do a soft reset, you will see the same thing. The only way to get out was to hard reset.
Not all type of edit will have this problem. I don't get this problem all the time, but every time when the problem happens, I was doing a soft reset using tweaks2k2.
I reported the problem to the company. The creator of the program himself responded to me. He said that his logic for soft reset was dated, and therefore could cause problem with the newer devices under certain conditions. He told me I'm not the only one reportig this.
He believe that the software could still be used as long as I use the stylus to so soft reset.
I still use this tool, not very carefully. Till now since his advice was followed, I don't have a single hard reset caused by freezing primary flash.
sktools is definitely a great app for use in this instance
Although for WM 5, most of these seem valid for 6 as well -- at least the ones I tried out worked fine.

Ok, so i had to do a hard reset and the 'toolbar' checkbox was checked so the quick menu would drop down to close apps running. Well, with that disabled, i only have 1.5 icons showing, and no matter what i can find to do, will bring them back. Its like theres a black box covering up half of the area where the system notification icons are supposed to be.
Stock ROM, few tweaks and stuff installed, but nothing that effected this before the hard reset.
Thanks in advance
Yes, i did search, but nothing came up!

Nevermind, i uninstalled the diamond hack and that fixed it, but didnt mess them up before the reset.
im not too happy with the phones stadart vibration pattern for incoming calls and sms - its way too long and too 'loud'; is there a way to somehow chage it permanently? that would make my life a whole lot easier.anyone a idea? thanks
yup...I totally agree with you!I also need to know how to edit the vibration.
maybe by changing something in the registry would help..
there MUST be a way. ever noticed the short vibration when switching the phone on.
somehow it should be possible to edit it
yup and I'm pretty sure that it can be done by editing the registry..
hey there, after a bit of searching on the net i found something that might help us out.
i found the registry scripts for incoming calls and sms.
if you go to HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0\
youll find a entry called script
this entry describes the phone's action on an incoming call. if your phone is in "Normal" profile mode the script should be "av0pw3r"
the letters stand for the following commands:
a - start loop
v - vibration in seconds (0=infinite)
p - play ringtone
w - wait "x" seconds
r - repeat loop
now the problem in this whole thing is, that this script always changes automatically to another variaton depending on your active profile.
e.g. if you switch your phone to "vibrate" profile the original code would be
"av3w3r" lets assume youd like the vibration to be active only for one second instead of three. the code would then logically be "av1w3r".
switching back to "normal" profile would set the script back to "av0pw3r" and switching once more back to "Vibrate" would still change the script into the old one "av3w3r" even if you changed it before to "v1".
i have no clue how to teach the phone to keep the changed settings but maybe someone out there would pick my idea up and try to create a tiny app for these registry keys to PERMANENTLY be edited and changed.
with sms it is pretty much the same deal.
since there is no Script entry in HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\SMS\ i simply created one in vibrate mode. its av1 for me.
the bad news with this entry is that the phone wont change it at all when switching profiles so youd have to change it manually every time youd like a different style for your incoming sms pattern (av1pr for a short vibration, then playing the sms sound, then a repeat).
this is how far ive come with my resarch about this. it would be really nice to catch some motivated programmer's attention on this topic to make the scripts change with different profiles.
greetings

A)see if you can find the registry that changes the profiles and see if u can edit vibration there.
B)If you can't change the vibration from there then :
1.find and extract the registry that switches profile to normal.
2.edit the vibration script from "av3w3r" to "av1w3r"
3.Extract the registry HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\RingTone0\
4.edit the sms script
5.extract the registry HKCU\ControlPanel\Sounds\SMS\
6.Now you have 3 registry files, merge them to 1 file using nothepad(1st the file from step 1,then from step 3,then from 5).
Do the same for each profile.
That way you will have a reg file for each profile. Now every time you want to switch between profiles just run the corresponding
reg file.
I didn't manage to find a way to edit the registry permanently...
All I've done is that I have created a ".reg" file that edits the vibration script to av1w3r...So every time after I switch a profile I run this file and vibration becomes edited...
I have added this "reg" file at the start menu and I have set a hot key for it.So I just press "button 2" and the vibrations becomes 1 second.
i couldnt find any profile settings for the scripts neither, but im glad you could at least create a alternative way, thanks a lot on this. is there a way i can add a reg entry for the sms script too?it should be something like 'v1' in meeting profile and 'v1p' in normal mode. but since originally there isnt any script for the sms the phone wouldnt change it automatically back when in normal mode so it must be edited each time switching modes thats the problem. i dont really know how to manage this without creating a second cab, but that would make the whole thig even more difficult

The best think I can think of..is making some kind of little program based on reg files..that will switch between profiles...but unfortunately I don't know how to make one...
At the moment I have just made separated reg files to edit vibration for sms and ringtone.
------------------------------
Vibration.reg:sets ringtone to av1pw1r and sms to av1
sms to av1.reg:sets sms to av1
sms to av1p.reg:sets sms to av1p
ringtone av1pw1r:sets ringtone to av1pw1r
------------------------------------------
using these you can select the vibration you like each time.
Please help!!!
Hi i just flashed new official rom: RUU_Leo_S_HTC_WWE_3.14.405.2_Radio_15.42.50.11U_2.15.50.14_LEO_S_Ship
released on 11 oct 2010 by htc. There is no longer screen setting in the options menu?
I have located in the registry under GUI where to place the entries 1 folder called Font smothing and one called clear type but what entries do i need to make to enable them both?
100. Enable Align Screen Calibration in Settings
Certain US roms or custom roms do not have the screen calibration option showing in All Settings, System, Screen. This allows you to tap on crosshairs to calibrate the screen. To enable it just use the registry tweak below:
HKLM\ControlPanel\Pen and change from 1 to 0.

Yes But even then font smothing is not visible, that was only availiable through the quick preferences-screen not in all settings screen in previous roms
just dont want to have flash back to an old rom then back just for these settings after spending most of a day re-installing programs back on and changing settings to find these two missing.
where exactly was the font smoothing setting? i don't think i've ever seen anything labeled like that. just cleartype which says "smoothes the edges of screen fonts"
reg for cleartype is....
create the registry branch
hklm/system/GDI/CLEARTYPE
it doesn't need any keys or values, the branch existing is enough to turn on cleartype
hklm/system/GDI/CLEARTYPE already exists yet is not activated so how do you enable it? what entries need to be made in this folder?
font smoothing setting is also under hklm/system/GDI/ the same again this entry exists what entries need to be made in this folder?
in cleartype settings is only offonrotation
some apps require cleartype turning on within them. resco explorer for instance. scan your registry for "cleartype" there are a few hits.
Update half way there
Managed to get cleartype working in all progs and enabled thanks to another forum,
Just now need help to get font smothing working
how you did it?
How you managed to enable clear type in new rom. Pls help i cannot.

nothing else goes in that folder, the folder itself is all that is required to tell winmo to use cleartype. (At least thats how its supposed to work, thats how it works on non 3.14 roms)
