[Q] Camera Flash-Light Problems with Cooked ROM's - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm having problems with the camera whenever I install a cooked ROM. It seems to work in every respect except that the option to keep the flash-light on before taking a picture just doesn't work.
Pressing the Flash-Light button in the camera app still toggles the 3 options; Off, Automatic, and On, but the On option doesn't turn on the flash-light. Reverting to a stock ROM returns the facility, (which buy the way I seem to be unable to load any ROM via leoimg.nbh of the SD Card. It just sits at the 3 color screen doing nothing!!!).
Anybody have any idea's please?

try to do a task29 ! and then flash the latest energy rom! it might work -- do flashing with pc not sd card for now !

Thanx for reply, I guess you haven't got the same problem with your Energy ROM? I noticed it first with the excellent Energy ROM before trying several others all with the same problem. I also tried several different Radio's, but unless I return to stock the problem persists.
As it happens by following the advice on the ROM flashing thread I'd already done several formats, although not intentionally to resolve this issue.
I also flash via USB, but just tried the SD to revert to full stock as the HSPL thread advised and was surprised it didn't work!

16gb sd card? they rarely work. Try a 2gb card, or 8gb.
as for returning to stock, i assume its a tmous? no need for sd card flashing.
for tmous phone
1 - run hspl3, choose 2.08.0000
2 - install tmous stock rom 2.13
done
for non tmous phone
1 - install stock rom
2 - run hspl2 and choose an spl that ends 0000
(1.42.0000 for rom 1.43,
1.66.0000 for rom 1.66/1.72)
done

Hey
I Noticed this too, it would appear that chef's are using different packages/ drivers to improve camera quality, but this disables the 'flash always on' feature.
It has been discussed in another thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=685202
i asked the prev chef (of the rom i was using) if this could be fix but he didnt seem to think it was that big a deal, so i switch to cleanex roms, where this feature is working correctly (& overall excellent rom).
here's the link if you wanna take a look: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=656835

you can use torch button to switch on the flash, then jump to the camera app, and the torch stays on. (I think)

8125 Camera not working...

Please help me fix the camera of my Cingular 8125 G4 device. After I flashed a new rom using soft SPL method, which I think G4 safe rom, the camera is not working. When I press the camera button, I only see the spinning circle with different colors and the screen lights up a little bit than the normal brightness and stuck it there. And after a few seconds, the phone hangs up. Need to soft reset in order to put back the device in a functional state. I don't know why this happened as I followed all the necessary steps in using softSPL upgrade method. Maybe there is something wrong in the device registry. Does anyone has the same camera problem. Please share the tricks, tweaks or anything just to bring back the camera function again.
BTW, I reflashed back the official cingular stock rom but no luck at all its the same.
I see that you are using the TNT ROM, so I would to and flash UP to the newest version and see if that fixes your problem, it sounds like the camera software and drivers are not getting installed for some reason.
I reflashed the tnt rom but no good. Tried also to go back to the original cingular stock rom but still not working. Even in the windows\camera cannot make it. But when tried not to use the device for a some hour in standby mode, the camera works for a while then it hangs up. And go back to non-functional state.
Sir, what you think is the problem? I suspect its the software installed in the device based on what the camera behave. Or definitely the hardware itself and need to replace. Bad for me because I am living in the Philippines and as far I knew there is no service available in our country.
Thanks in advance whatever help you can give. Have a nice day.
Try using the wizard service tool to increase your page pool to 6mb.
Camera work again after....
My dead camera work again after I flashed rom cooked by Cracing. This rom is awesome. Its compatible with Wizard. Thanks to Cracing.

Sounds like some issues I have had when bouncing around different ROMs. I find that when I am having problems like this, flashing the stock ROM resets everything. Then, I can task29, flash radio and ROM and no issues.
In other words, try flashing the stock ROM, let it boot completely to Sense and then Task29.
got the same problem, but when the movie stops playing, got buzzing sound and whole device hang, all keys no respond, but hard buttons do activate the LEDs
have to pull battery out/soft reset
only face this when using energy rom, not facing in chucky and maesus and stock
anyone else using energy rom has this problem?
using both TCPMP and coreplayer

yea the same thing happened on energy, elagancia dutty's latest rom but for me after taking out the battery / soft reset it wont boot the first time have to do couple of resets before it boots and when it finally boots the date is set to 1980 on all three roms (whats with this date thing?? is it some kind of safe mode or something?)...so i dont think its a rom issue, went back to stock and it got stuck in the personalization screenso did a task29 came to dutty's again and still not working.will try going back to stock and try again
Check that your battery pins are not bent. I did this pulling the battery and the phone went into an endless reboot loop. Easy fix, just straighten them out and carry a paperclip with you at all times, this is a windows phone after all.
went back to stock and stock spl...its still restarting....and only after a series of restarts the phone boots
Hello.
I have the same problem. Stuck at HTC Logo, freezes und auto reboots. Any news on this ?
I did the same, Reverted to Stock SPL and Radio, But my phone still restarts..
Why does it happend? is it something wrong with the harddrive or something?
It really destroys our devices, Still due to our own risks, is there any solution for this?
I flashed the rom 2-3 times, With prefered radio and Hard reseted all the time after flash.

[Q] Wjfi & Bluetooth not working

Bought a T mobile HD2 (unlocked) second hand with energy rom installed.
Got it home & I find that the wifi & bluetooth are not working.
It picks up the network signal fine & the data connection is working fine.
But the wifi turns on & will not pick up anything.
The bluetooth it seems does not discover & is not discoverable.
I suspected it may be somthing to do with the rom so I loaded up a stock T mobile rom with the same results.
I have updated the radio with the same results.
The phone has Hspl loaded & I am wondering if I could do a complete cleanout of everything including Hspl & reload a completly vanilla stock Rom would that help.
I have fiddled with all the settings for both wifi & bluetooth & still no results.
At this point I need help!!!!
Run a task 29 then the stock rom of your choice, check the radio installed is compatable with the rom, hard reboot after completing the rom flash (its a good idea to do that first as well in case you don't need to run a 29 or flash)

I've the same problem ...I suppose.
I used a Touch Pro in the last two years and Energy ROMs since September 2009. I never had problems with Wi-Fi an Bluetooth.
Recently I bought a HD2 and tried Bloutooth and Wi-Fi only after 1 week.
So, both the Touch Pro and the HD2 got the same ROM (Energy ROM) flashed , each by its own version, but two days ago I discovered WiFi not working (DISCOVERED, because I never tried it before)
The problem seems an extremely poor signal seen on the on screen meter, only if I'm close to the router (1-2 meters!) I couldn't establish a real connection, because the HD2 loss the signal every 30-40 seconds.
Bothered about this I tried with Touch Pro: the result is the same!
So I concluded: "It's the ROM!". Strange (never had problems with Energy ROMs) but possible. I flashed the stock ROM on the HD2: the issue remains. So I thought about the RADIO, and I flashed the RADIO 2.12.50.02 (compatible with ROM). The issue is still here.
I used Task 29 before another flash, then I tried an Artemis ROM with RADIO 2.12.50.02... nothing changed. (note that I tried almost every different settings about Wi-Fi,from BsB tostandard enhance settings)
Last (related?) issue: when I try a hard reset, the progress bar starts to "move" but after 3-4 seconds (about a third of the bar) the bar disappears and I got the "Press VolUp button" message. Then the phone has the first boot... but I wonder if the HR is complete, because it seems yes.
Finally I came to this thread and... another doubt: what about BT?
I tried both the Touch Pro and the HD2 Bluetooths but they can't connect or recognize each other (every "Find" and "Visible" options activated)
I didn't try yet with Touch Pro (flash etc.) but I am very bothered and dubious about it.
Cooked ROM Energy Leo 1 Aug

WIFI & Bluetooth
Thus far I have run task 29
Reinstalled a stock T-mobile rom
But no luck wifi & bluetooth still not working properly.
Decided to go right back to the very beginning & uninstalled HSPL by loading the stock Rom from the SD card
Stock rom would not upload & i am getting the SPL 1.42.0000 Screen plus "Upgrade Rom code error please try again"
The question I have now is which is the proper stock Rom for this T mobile HD2 & how do I find that out?

Sorry I can't help about this.
We are alone in this thread!
wifi & bluetooth
I think your right.
Ah well, at least I have a very expensive doorstop!
You are not alone. I am experiencing the exact same problem and have yet to find an answer.
Task 29 didn't help and reflashing the radio the traditional way (even with the stock rom) doesn't seem to overwrite whatever is causing this problem.
Would uninstalling the hspl do anything? I am running out of ideas.

[Q] Don't install new firmware - it bricks the phone!

Hello,
I downloaded the official rom from the official HTC website.
It is the WWE East Europe version - suited for my device because the SN is confirmed.
The download finished OK from the Europe 2 server.
I flashed by placing the extracted leoimg.nbh on the root of the SD Card.
I confirmed that the flash was successful - it shows the correct version number of Manilla, radio, etc. Additionally, the ROM is still only 448 MB.
However, the phone freezes all the time and/or restarts itself complely randomly - I have observed this 22 times in the past hour. Is anyone experiencing something similar?
I have redone the flash again, but the same issue occurs.
This is happening with no programs installed, no HSPL, etc. Everything is completely clean.
What can I do to stop this?
may i know why you flashed the latest stock rom using your sd card. would it not be easier to flash through your pc using a usb cable?
you might want to check the meaning of "bricking the phone"...........
then remove it from the title of the thread........
As Rurph mentioned, flash it via your pc, still following the instructions from theHTC site
I now tried flashing through PC, same freezing occurs.
To reiterate:
I have an original HTC HD2 bought from the official HTC shop in Czech republic.
I downloaded the latest official ROM for HTC HD2 from the official htc.com/cz website using my original serial number.
The download finished successfully every time (I tried it 5 times from all the different servers), and the SHA-1 hash of the files was identical every time.
I now flashed it using the normal PC method - everything appeared successful.
I also tried extracting the nbh file from the downloaded file - both by running the .exe file, and by extracting it using winrar - both methods gave me the same nbh file with the same SHA-1 hash. Then I moved the leoimg.nbh to the root of SD card and flashed using the SD-Card method. Everything appeared successful.
Both of the above methods give me a system that freezes completely at random. For example when starting the phone, it can just freeze (left it for 8 hours over night, it remained frozed), when moving from 1 tab to another (freezes in the middle of the animation), when opening the start menu, when going into settings, when making phone call, when opening SMS, and most importantly when NOT DOING ANYTHING AT ALL.
What can I do?
Try to flash an older Version.
I don't know if its possible, but maybe that solves your problem.
Did you have SPL 3.03? If no... Install HSPL and use a custom ROM like the one from NRGZ28 (EnergyROM)
If you an't flash the older version via RUU (Rom Update Utility) try to flash it from SD card. You can also perform a "task 29" with MTTY (before you flash)
But be careful, you can brick your phone...
I have always only used official ROMs from HTC, so I never needed HSPL so I never installed it. I also always prefer the official ROMs so I would rather not use a cooked one.
I think flashing an older version would solve the problem, however I would rather like to find out what the cause is...
So far, I managed to get my phone to a useable state by running Android from the SD card - it works flawlessly for all my purposes. The only problem was to start Android through Windows before windows manages to freeze...
Given that android does not freeze, I believe that the freezing problem must be a windows mobile issue.
Any suggestions for tracking down this freezing problem? Could it be a hardware issue?
hard reset. and if no better flash the rom again followed by hard reset.always hard reset straight away as soon as you see a glitch in a freshly flashed rom. don't ask me why, cos i don't know, but it does seem to help when a flash doesn't "take".
oh and you didn't leave the old application data folder on your sd card did you? or try to restore registry settings?

I always hard reset before and after a flash. No change - freezing still occurs.
Even when I did multiple hard resets, the freezing persisted.
The SD card is freshly formatted, checked for no filesystem errors.
I did not restore any settings or anything else - the problem occurs on a completely fresh clean flash.
Additionally, the problem occurs even with no SIM card or SD card inserted into the phone.
Overheating?
I concur with rr5678, seems more like overheating than ROM problems, esp. that I've had the same ROM for a week with no problems whatsoever
hence kind request to OP: check overheating threads and please change the thread subject to a more accurate one so it does not spread misinformation and panic
as for the overheating - 1st thing to do is installing BattClock and monitoring correlation between freezes and battery temperature

The phone is definitely not overheating. It is very cold to touch and it runs Android without a problem.
OK I did some more testing - going back to any previous ROM fixes the freezing. Then installing the newest ROM reintroduces the freezing.
Given that it is definitely not a hardware issue (works on previous ROM, works on Android, no overheating), it looks like a Windows mobile issue.
I am surprised that nobody else is experiencing this. How come I am the only one? What is so special about my phone?
And the new firmware can "brick" the phone - a less skilled user would not be able to do anything with a frozen phone...
Anyone know why I get no ringtones or alarm sounds when using 1.8?
Deliberate?
Edit: Weird, seems first time a check a ringtone or alarm sound list it's empy. I leave then go back, it's populated again. So self-fixing issue.
Edit 2: Yeah.. tabs got mixed up, completely wrong thread, sorry!
Anyone help?
HTC Support is as always useless - their advice was to take out the battery and put it back in...
Additionally, I think this is a similar problem:

Thanks for the advice - but given that the phone freezes even with no SIM card inserted, I do not think that it is the case...
I have however tested inserting a different SIM card anyway, and the freezing occured again...
I too faced constant freezing problems with the official ROM but then I used HSPL and flashed a different radio (2.12 in my case) and ever since never faced any freezing problems..worth a try I guess...
epic fail
not being picky, but "bricking" is, as far I know, by definition an irreversible problem? Hanging and freezing and re-booting are not bricking.
That said, sorry to hear about your troubles.
Sounds like going back to your old ROM is the only solution right now.

Well, to me it seems your phone just doesn't like custom ROMs.

Nand Android Working

Hard SPL your phone first before proceeding.
Don't let your battery to discharge completely, if it happens, connect the charger (red led appears), take out the battery (with the charger still connected, red led remains on), put the battery back (orange led appears) and then fast turn the phone on and enter bootloader mode because there the phone is charging even that no led is on.
Google Android kernel build working from NAND memory.
I am glad to introduce you the result of our hard work, based on the android kernel and tinboot bootloader, made by DZO. I am, vsavichev, working on kernel, my friend hrustile- on design and system, and my friend blyha- on the hardware researching and testing part.
HOWTO Installation process.
Doing on the security unlocked phone under your own responsibility, all unlocking info is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=355730
1. Download Nikeimg.7z, archive contain 2 images, for 20 or 16 keys keyboard.
2. Flash it like usual firmware, which means:
2.2 From the SDcard:rename file NIKEIMG16K(20K).nbh to NIKEIMG.nbh and put it to the root of SD card. Make folder named "andboot" in the root of your SD card and put there android build itself, which usually named "androidinstall.tar",if not, rename it. My recommendation is this one, from my friend hrustile : http://www.multiupload.com/OYW85PFMH1. No need to format SD card or remove any files. Turn off your phone and reboot to bootoader mode (e.g. hold CAMERA and POWER buttons) Then phone will detect itself that there is a firmware is on your SD card and will ask your to press POWER button, so press it. Flashing takes about 20 seconds, after it's over pull the battery or press reset.
2.3 From the PC: same procedure exept no need to put NIKEIMG.NBH on the SD card. You need to put it to the folder with flasher on the PC. The rest same as SD card flashing.
But it's not all!!!
3. Turn device on and wait until i says "Hold down Volume Up or DPad Center to launch installer" press and hold central button, you'll see installer menu. If you missed yo press button- reset and press it directly after seeing some output on the screen.
Choose Data & Sys on "(*) NAND" and press Install android, then answer yes twice. Now installation process is started, wait for a minute or so.
4 And at last after installation is over press Quit, first boot takes some time so be patient. Then enjoy your Android.

Can you solve the BUG android on Chinese support it?Thank you
No, chinese is so far from me, im russian.
First, thanks for the advanced work!
I try this last night, and it looks great and smooth, but I have a problem for it.
Mine is Niki100, the screen touch function seems not working properly. I can't finished unlocking the phone, the screen froze after I slide it from left to right.
Anything I can try?
Looks strange for me, if problem is in locked screen only you can unlock it with double pressing of camera button. Then, if screen is still frezed, long press on POWER and then the RED PHONE, sometimes helps. Anyway, the work is very far from over, so i hope there will be a lot of improovments, this build i put here only to show that there is a hope, because all the previos threeds ended so hopeless.
thank u for your work!
but my phone raido is 1.59,your rom can't work on my phone ,if you fix this BUG, it will be perfect!
I don't think it's possible to fix a kernel for a specific radio, but it will be very useful for me, if everyone who tests my build will post the issues wich he will have for sure and the radio version, so i can find the problems, caused by radio and the problems, caused by kernel.
Latest news, now internet connection working.
What's new? Network connection in my cell phone is normal.
Some improvements, now we have all the functions, like under HARET.
How to install?
It seems when I long-pressed the icon (want to delete home screen shortcut), the screen touch works no more. Sometimes It randomly happened when I press several time short-pressed. Other than that, the phone function works fine, and 3g connection is fine too.

Do we have update for niki16k ?
poyfoster How long does the screen touch work before freeze? Or it happens just after boot? Please, post your radio version, i need it for statistics too.
About 16k update- you are the first to ask, no problem, i'll make one for you in a couple of hours.
It's this a rom?
How to install ? Its only androidinstall.tar and ZIMAGE. There is no default.txt and Haret and initr.gz, I download this package but still dont know how tu run it. Maybe someone can explain me, my device is HTC touch dual NIKKI 20 keys
It works from NAND, wich means your windows mobile will be gone. So you need to be very sure what are you doing before do something.
So if you still want to flash android, you need to put NIKEIMG.nbh on the rootof sd card,
androidinstall.tar and androidupdate.tgz to /andboot/ folder.
Turn off the device, hold CAMERA and POWER buttons, until you get to bootloader, then press power again.
Now press reset or pull battery off, then power on your phone. After splash screens you will see some fast running output, when you see something like "Hold center or volume up button to install" you need to hold center button. All the other stuff is like usual HARET installation, exept you need to put systrm and data on NAND in installer. After install complete, you need to install update before exit.
I need 16K,thanks
