My touch screen suddenly stopped working, anyone had this happen to them? As far as I know I didn't do anything to provoke this i.e drop it or make any software changes. I tried a hard reset and still no luck.. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
Thanks
Seeps
if it ujust stopped working and you have done a hard rest (formated teh device and reinstalled ) and its still the same then id say most likely faulty(which you probley already guessd)
if you got it as an account upgrade get in touch with ur network service provider and get them to replace the device if you bought it from a 3rd party try to return it if you can, if you are unable get in touch with HTC all the best
nass
Thanks
Yea I tried hard reset and all that, you're right my guess was that its faulty. So I'll be paying cingular a visit tomorrow. I just finished flashing the cingular splash screens back to the device and original os back to the device with the mtty program, luckily I figured all that out because otherwise I couldn't get past the sceen alignment stage to do a regular rom update.

The best way to clear any "funny" status on the hardware is to give it a "Russian Reset": power off the phone and then on again. If that doesn't solve your problem then take it in for repairing.
(Russian Reset is a term I heard many moons ago from a Finnish DEC SW engineer regarding PC hangs that would not clear with Ctrl+Alt+Delete but could only be solved by switching off and on.)
Through the turnstyle
Well since my 8525 is 1 month and two weeks I have to send it into cingular's warranty department. The one thing I am concerned about is that I want to make it appear that it had never been modified again. Unfortunately I am not able to do a regular rom update because I can't get the thing past the setup stage because it requires me to tap the screen and do the screen alignment to continue, and thus it won't let me make an active sync connection to do the rom update. I was able to use mtty to get the OS, EXT ROM and splash screens back to original, and I was able to get it back to bootloader 1.04 (Is this the stock bootloader for the 8525?), but I haven't figured out how to downgrade the radio yet. Any suggestions? I think I have radio version 1.27 right now, if anyone knows what the stock radio version is for the 8525 let me know. I want to get this thing back to normal so when I send it in through warranty they don't tell me I am out of luck..
Thanks
Seeps
Put device in bootloader mode and flash the stock rom (cingular 1.34). You don't need activesync at all.
Thanks
That worked. Now I can rest a little easier sending it back.
Trying to downgrade with mtty
when i run mtty i cant see a usb option how do I get it to see one??? the mtty ver i have 1.6 but i reaaly need a hand cause i have the same issue with the dead screen
I flashed my locked g4 with faria's shelltool that installed wm6, my phone now wont make it past the ipl/spl screen. at this point i found the sd card backup method and unlocked my g4 through the website. when running through this method i find that the utility is unable to copy the extrom.. it seems to be the last hitch, my phone as of now is a brick and i am hoping for that to change. any help please?
Im not so sure its a brick, I think I read in other posts that if it makes it to the IPL/SPL screen there is still hope.. if it was a brick, I dont think it would do ANYTHING.
You might want to look into that though, I may be wrong, but I am pretty certain there is hope for u.
Hi there.
Turn off the phone, remove battery if necessary. Then press and hold camera button and then press the power button, your phone will enter in boot mode, now flash with the operatorĀ“s rom.
Cheers
sorry for the delayed response here. the phone (even in boot mode ) will not be found by active sync so i cannot get the thing to flash with the t-mo rom. since this issue i contacted customer care and am having the phone replaced under warranty.
the phone will NOT be recognized by activesync.. you just need to start the ROM update and it will go along fine. you need the original carrier ROM, and unless your device is CID unlocked, you need to use ShellTool to flash the WM6 ROM. good luck

tried this rom upgrade stuff, not for me i just cant figure it out, downloaded the custom ruu into a folder on the desktop extracted the radio rom into same folder ruu_signed.nbh & extracted the rom update to my desktop and guess what it just sits a 0 percent then comes up error 262,what the hell am i doing wrong ??
you should probably provide a little more information than that if you want anybody to be able to help you.
try and be as clear and understandable as possible, and list what rom/radio you had before, and whiat you tried to flash to the phone and exactly what steps led you to where you are now. what happens when you turn your phone on?
turn your phone all the way off, and then hold the volume down button, and while holding it, turn the phone back on. you should see a screen with a few colored bars on it, like red, white and green. exactly what all does this screen say on it?
hi,ive been at this all day & this phone htc hd2 is a piece of crap,i wish i held onto my iphone sorry for moaning but its such an akward piece of ****.why is it so complicated to put firmware on and radio roms etc ? anyway my phone has latest vodafone rom installed from htc site and hspl 2 installed and thats it,im trying to install a custom rom and update radio rom as it says to do so,ive put custom ruu on my desktop in a folder with the radio rom in the same folder ruu_signed.nbh.extracted the custom rom to my desktop and synced phone to comp,i got into folder and run custom ruu and everything runs ok untill it tries to install ? and the bar doesnt move 0% and then comes up fault 262
when i extract the custom rom to the desktop it put 2 files on
leo software upgrade & leoimg.nbh do i put that file into the custom ruu folder also along with the radio rom ???
heres my phone spec
os version=5.2.21869 (21869.5.0.82)
manilla version=2.5.20121429.0
rom version=1.72.161.3 (82124) WWE
rom date=03/24/10
radio version=2.07.51.22_2
protocol version 15.32.50.07u
get rom ruu_signed.nbh or radio.nbh (or whatever its called, doesnt matter) and put in folder with customruu.exe
Only put one nbh in the folder at a time, if you put multiple nbh files in that folder, it will always flash the first one alphabetically.
phone into bootloader (yes i know the instructions say get active sync connection, forget that)
if the spl says x.x.0000 then you didnt run hspl yet, or you ran hspl3 and noobishly just accepted the default 2.08.0000 which is stock, and you cant flash. (Thats one reason it can hang at 0%)
If teh spl says x.xx.hspl then you are ready to flash
phone still in bootloader, connect usb, wait for word serial to become usb on phone right click customruu.exe and choose run as administrator.
If it times out again, dont touch phone, just cancel and re run customruu, if it still fails, still dont touch phone, just move usb ports and try again.
My money is on the hspl3 -> 2.08.0000 mistake. (or you simply didn't hspl at all, in which case shame on you!)
hi mate,im new to this stuff im an ex iphone user,i dont know what u mean by (or you simply didn't hspl at all, in which case shame on you!)i installed hspl onto the phone 2.08.0000 i ve done that is that wrong ???
will i run it again and choose 2.08 hspl ???
i went ahead and done it and it came up we hacked it,is that it ??
do i install radio rom first then custom rom & will the radio nbh be away or do i remove it then install the leo rom & put the leoimg.nbh in the custom ruu folder ??

bingo.
However, since you dont have a tmous phone, i recommend you use hspl2. hspl3 isnt 'newer' or 'better', its just been simplified for the tmous users (they cant use most of the options in hspl2)
hspl2 doesnt default to .0000 so it would have offered you 1.66.hspl (opposite to what you already had, 1.66.0000) so would have worked correctly.
hi,its hspl3 ive done it with, will i have to do it again with hspl2 ?
no it will be fine, just in the future if you want to remove hspl, or apply any spl other than 2.xx, (not 3.xx , thats different) use hspl2 not hspl3.
hi,im doing it now and it seems to be working, ive installed the radio rom and now im installing the custom leo rom,do i need to hard reset after & how do i do that ?
its not essential, but can sometimes help avoid buggy flashes. personally i dont, but if in the first half hour you feel teh rom is glitchy, do a hard reset and try again.
to hard reset
phone off
press, hold and keep holding vol UP and vol DOWN - you will prbably find this easier with teh battery cover off. press them one by one, until you feel teh click of each button, cos its easy to not quite get it, and teh phone boots normally instead. once u are holding them both, tap and release power.
Just like entering bootlaoder, but with vol up too.
thanks for all your help mate, thats the first time ive done it
Hi all
I've had a search through the re-developed ROM's and to be perfectly open, I don't understand much about them.
I recently had a plain HTC HD2 and very happy with it for what I use it for, I don't need any fancy add on's and bits etc, just my Co-pilot and keeping my contacts and notes upto date.
That handset was lost and the insurance didn't have any HD2 replacements in stock. The Desire they sent instead has been sold, and I've purchased a T Mobile version of another HD2.
Is it a simple case of downloading and installing the official HTC ROM for the handset and doing a ROM update?
Apologies if this is a simple query etc!
Cheers, Dennis!
no, no no nonono.
assuming you mean a tmobile us model (1024 rom, green send key) then no, if you flash a non tmous stock rom (any stock rom that isn't for the tmous) onto that phone it will die. brick. dead, because of the ..51.. radio they include.
You may get some cooked roms that are on a base of lower than 2.x, but have been tweaked for the 576ram , and they will work on your phone, but its a very risky game to play.
Far better to follow the two rules..,
only ever flash tmous stock roms,
and
cooked roms that SPECIFICALLY say tmous compatible in the title and post 1 of that roms thread..
Hiya
Samsamuel, thanks for the info there. I'll update with more information! I'm technical, but not with smartphones to the level some of you guys here!
I'm in the UK, and it's a UK TMobile handset that I bought. I've already had the handset 'unlocked' so that I can use my O2 SIM, which is working etc.
From the handset
OS Version - 5.2.21889 (21889.5.0.87)
Manila Version - 2.5.20121429.0
ROM version - 1.72.110.4 (86525) WWE
ROM date - 04/02/10
Radio Version - 2.07.51.22_2
Protocol version - 15.32.50.07U
So, would it be ok to update to the normal HTC ROM?
Cheers, Dennis!
Ah ok in that case there is no need to mention that it is a t mobile phone, just confuses the issue.
Yes the regular update will work fine once happy is applied.
Thanks once again SamSamuel,
However, what's meant by 'once happy is applied' ?
Is that one of these hacks or special ROM things?
When I do a search, so many results come back containing the word 'happy' I have no idea where or what to look for!
Is there a thread which explains how to apply 'happy'?
Apologies for the vagueness!!
Cheers, Dennis!
lol, thats the android spell correction and me not proof reading before i post. should be HSPL
Hiya
To me, anything that's typed up 'could' potentially be what I need to do! I wouldn't know the difference!!
So, I've had a search for HSPL - I see it mentioned, but alas, I have no clue what it is, where to get it from, what to do with it when I get it!
Is there any straightforward points on what and where to get this HSPL, how to use it ?
I know I can download the HTC official ROM from their website, so that part I think I know what to do as I upgraded my last HD2.
Cheers, Dennis!
ok, hspl. Get HSPL2_RUN.zip from HERE, (you can follow instructions that say hspl or hspl3, theyre all the same, except for what phones they support, , hspl2 is teh most usefull for regular hd2 owners)
phone into bootloader and connect usb, (when you read 'get an active sync connection', , forget that, it doesnt mean actual active sync, just a usb connection)
get hspl2, run it, in the dropdown is a list of spl and hspl versions. if it ends .0000 its stock, if it ends .hspl its,,,,,, hspl.
choose 2.08.hspl, follow the prompts. if it doesnt work, run the hspl prog again, if it still doesnt work (timeout/connection errors) change usb ports and try again. no need to touch teh phone, just leave it in bootloader all the time.
once bootloader says spl 2.08.hspl you are good to go.
BUT
if you are planning to flash the 3.14 rom, , , you can't do it this way.
3.14 wont work on any spl/hspl except 3.03.0000 and there is no way to get 3.03.0000 except goldcard.
Hiya
Samsamuel - seems you're the only one willing to help me here! so I really appreciate it !
I know i've got to do 'things' from what you've said there, but I have no idea on how to do it! - give me some financial IT related stuff I'm good! ask me to do bootloaders and potential goldcard and run files and connect - I'm lost! I don't want to try things in case I 'brick' the handset!
The ROM I want is listed on the HTC downloads section for the HD2. It's dated 25th January 2010
Details are
ROM Version:
Norway:1.66.409.1, Spain :1.66.412.1, Denmark:1.66.403.1, France :1.66.406.1,
Sweden:1.66.413.2, Italy:1.66.408.1, WWE:1.66.405.2, France Bouygues: 1.66.483.0
So, if I somehow manage to do this HSPL thing, will I not be able to install the HTC ROM? I have no idea where or what the '3.14' ROM is?
Apologies for sounding really vague - I've never got into all the modified ROM's and stuff for smartphones. I've only ever needed to switch on, use the phone, install my GPS software and keep my contacts and notes syncronised. I'm just used to the HD2 I had as it was a case of straightforward use. This T mobile version is 'different'!
Anyone else able to help alongside everything SamSamuel has kindly provided so far? please?!!
Cheers, Dennis!
warning
Its best for you if you do not try to update your phone. Either get used to it or just sell it. There are rom update tutorials on this site. Just search for rom update tutorial, if you must try. The official htc software is not for this phone, if you install it, your phone will no longer work, and you wont be able to fix it.
No, its ok so long as you have a regular hd2 locked to t mobile as discussed in earlier posts.
Just to double confirm, if your phone has green send key, then STOP DANGER
But I think we're dealing with white send key, so normal hd2, and the target Tom isn't 3.14
So,,,
assuming white end key.
Phone backed up and off
Press hold keep holding volume down
Tap and release power keep holding volume down
When striped coloured screen appears
Plug in USB
On PC run hspl2
In dropdown choose 2.08.hspl
When it completes and phone starts to reboot immediately hold volume down again to return to stripey screen (bootloader)
When says USB at the bottom and split at top says 2.08.hspl run the .exe you downloaded from HTC
If you get connection errors, timeouts, leave the phone and just swap USB ports. When running hspl.exe right click it and "run as administrator"
(That's the last time I'm gonna write those out in full, there must be 500 identical step by steps and half as many YouTube vids. )
If your send key is green DO NOT DO THIS
Dear XDA Developers community,
my father recently gave me his old HTC HD2. It had its factory default stuff. I wanted to download some apps and play around with it, so I downloaded some apps from the marketplace. As soon as I downloaded a free Sudoku game, and ran it, the phone stopped responding. I tried to do a soft reset, but the phone did not respond either (it was stuck at the menu).
Now, I may have done an error: I removed the battery, instead of performing a Hard Reset. When I turned it on, it started rebooting in a loop, being stuck always at the HTC white welcome screen.
I decided for a Hard Reset. Well, it always gets stuck at the bootloader screen (the screen with the 4 colors).
So, I researched a bit, and found out, you can return to its stock ROM, eve with a stuck bootloader.
Well, I downloaded many old ROMS (the Rom before the problems was a 1.66 one), and ran the RUU through USB. But it always gave me a Incorrect vendor ID error (I think it was 194), so the update would always stop at 1%.
I even tried a 1.43 ROM.
I tried many WWE version Roms, but they don't seem to work. My father bought the phone on Amazon US, with no special contract or phone lock, so I guess it has to be a WWE, so I don't know why the RUU says it's incorrect.
I have seen other threads that have some similarities, but my exact same problem has not been addressed.
I would be very happy if you could help me, since I do not want to spend any money on repairs which I could probably perform with help of the community
I would be most glad to give more information if needed.
Many thanks in advance.
Edit:
The issue was resolved by installing HSPL4 on it, and then using a WWE 1.66 ROM on it! Silly me for not trying that earlier!
glad you sorted it, , to explain why it wouldnt work, you were not using the correct rom for that phone.
Your first clue would be the 'invalid vendor id'. An 02 phone (for example) will only take o2 roms, a tmo phone tmo roms, a voda phone, voda roms. Only unbranded phones take pure wwe roms, so for example
ruu leo htc wwe 1.66.405.2
see it says HTC in the filename? its for unbranded (not sold by a network) hd2s only.
I guess you have a branded one. (even if its been unlocked, the rom lock always remains, which is why we have hspl)
Incidentally, you only had trouble because you initially flashed from sd card, and step 1 in teh sd card flash is hspl gets removed, the phone restarts to continue flashing but because hspl is now gone, it fails. Had you flashed from usb teh first time, it would have worked.

Thanks for the answer Samuel. I got the phone to work again, and I even loaded NAND Android from the DFTeam.
Although the ROM runs just perfect and I love it, now my Volume Up key has stopped working.
I could not post on the Development section, so I guess I won't bother anyone, and will just post it in this thread.
It is a minor issue, but it's still is annoying. I found on the forums problems with the key with other models, but not with the HTC Leo.
Maybe someone has heard of this. Again, thanks in advance!
