Textmaker, part of Softmaker Office, can open DOC files and create PDF files. You can download a trial from www.softmaker.com. It's a versatile program.

I have only just found this utility so haven't really tried it that much.

[Q] eBook reader for WM6.5?

I have a very old phone: Dopod 818pro.
It's running Windows Mobile 6.5 right now.
I used to read ebooks with iSilo 5 on it.
But recently I found that iSilo does not support ".epub".
Is there any better ebook reader which can read .pdb and .epub?
or is there any solution for iSilo to read .epub?
Thanks a lot.
If you use the "search function" you could have your answers easily. Try freda.
I use Freda to view epub files.
there are also conversion progs like sigil and calibre to change the format
Another vote for Freda.
Hands down, the best ebook reader I've ever used.
+1 for Freda

I've tried Freda.
I found that it couldn't read .pdb files.
So... I use Freda for epub and iSilo for pdb and txt.
Thanks for your anwsers.

I use Freda as well.
I use MobiPocket. The Windows client will import a number of different types of books (including epub), converts then and then syncs to your phone. I don't know if the windows mobile client can handle the different formats natively or if you need to convert them first.
My biggest dislike is that you have to "tap" the screen or use up/down buttons. You can't "swipe" the screen to scroll up or down.

how to read PDFs on Flyer's reader?

I have many PDFs i want to read on the Reader app that comes with the Flyer as i can note notes, comments and highlights.
i was wondering how can i import those into the Reader ? if they aren't via adobe Id nor ikobo?
thanks
You can use the PDF Viewer.
You can open the PDFs in the HTC Provided PDF Viewer. You can place the PDFs pretty much anywhere. It should find it, once you open the app. However you can also direct the program to open it from the menu button.
Also there are plenty of other options for viewing PDFs in the Android Market if you do not like the one HTC provides you.
Personally, I have all my PDFs in my MicroSD card.

yes the PDF Viewer can view the the file but its scrolling from top to bottom without the nice features in the Reader app:
Annotations
Bookmarks
Font Size
multiple reading scenes such as Night
i cant get PDFs into this reader app ?
sorry I misunderstood.
Depending on what type of PDF it is, you probably need to convert them into a epub file. After which you can add it like any other books.
Are you able to extract the taken in the Reader app?

i can view books in the Reader normally, but didn't know what do you mean about extracting ?
anyone knows how to read PDFs on HTC's Reader?
Like I said.
It all depends on what type of PDFs you are working with. If it is text based PDFs you can convert your PDFs into ePub. Like this Link. But I do not think this works with JPG based PDFs as you will not have any function of the reader, like using the Scribe pen. For PDFs with Jpgs I just use the PDF Viewer and you can still use your scribe pen, works great for my magazines and other PDFs that I have scanned and created into PDFs. Hope this helps.

[Q] Best way to convert books??

I searched for a spot to post this. I can post pdf to epub in calibre but can't seem to do mobi or doc to epub. I may be doing something wrong. All my magazines are in pdf if it was my choice id make everything epub.
I know that Calibre does convert .mobi to epub because most of the books I had were .mobi and I converted them -- for the most part. There were a few that gave me issues, but I just found different copies for those.
You could save your .doc files as .rtf or something else so that Calibre will read the source format.
would the 'RTF' ( rich text file ? ) keep the magazines' layout and pics ?

Are you sure the mobi files are DRM-free? I ran into this a few times when trying to convert DRM'ed mobi files from Fictionwise (back in the day when they sold anything besides vampire romance books)... There are pretty easily available python scripts to remove the DRM from mobi files, and plenty of guides available on line for deDRM'ing them. If I recall, you DO need to have a valid MobiPocket Reader device ID for the deDRM scripts to work...

You can save a doc file as an epub file in Libre Office or Open Office using a small plugin. I believe it's name is doc2epub, but not 100% sure, as I am not at my computer right now.

why not just convert doc to pdf? Then pdf to epub! :]
Correct me if I am wrong but the Nook can read PDFs pretty well can't it? Why do you need to convert to epub?
I personally use calibre but it doesn't work as well as one would like for anything with layout constrictions. Hence why I would suggest using PDF.
Even with a screen as large as the NT's reading a PDF can be a pain. You have two choices see the whole page and barely readable text or get readable text and a small fraction of page.
Epub fixes that with adjustable text size and layouts.

[Q] Q : How to change unlock button to "Home" for Nokia 710?

Morning all,
I need some help to resolve 2 questions.
1. How can i change the configuration to unlock the phone, not only by using "Power" button, but also "Home" button?
2. How can i transfer .epub files into my Windows Phone?
All i can find in XDA involved Android, or Windows Mobile, but not Windows Phone.
So any help is highly appreciated.
Don't think you can change the button function without an unlocked device and some hacking wizardry but I found this about .epub docs
Flibusta provides downloadable texts in .fb2, .epub or .mobi formats. The Windows Phone 7 Marketplace is tiny compared to Google market, but I found one free ebook reader called Freda that is able to read .epub files. Buried down in the UI ofr Freda, there is a Website page that allows to paste an URL in the text box. The same page also embeds Internet Explorer. I figured that the text box shall be used to download .epub document to the device. However, pasting a url to an .epub file distributed by Flibusta did not work. I tried another ebook reader, called iSilo. It was a very usable and feature-rich program on my old Palm TT, but it could not open my .epub file either.
An inspection of the HTTP session between the browser and Flibusta allowed to pinpoint a problem. Flibusta issues two HTTP 302 redirects: one to insure that the .fb2 document is converted to .epub and the other to compresses the .epub document, if needed. The Internet Explorer used in Windows Phone 7 did not want to follow the redirects, but typing manually the url given in the last redirect in the Freda search box worked.

Thanks for the info about Flibusta and the redirects - I will check it out, and make sure it works with the next release of Freda. Actually, I am about to start beta-testing that release in the next days, so if you want to join the beta-testing team, just let me know ([email protected]).
Incidentally, the flibusta catalog is also available as an OPDS book source on Freda (just find the 'unhide source' menu, and unhide the source called 'flibusta'). That should give a better book browsing experience. That 'website source' interface is really just a workaround for the fact that Microsoft won't let me register a program (e.g. Freda) as the app to open .epub files - and I'd be the first to admit that it is a pretty ugly workaround.

Best app what can open .cad or/both .pdf files?

Hi,
I am looking app what can open .cad or/both .pdf files. I have tested several free pdf-apps but when I open like 10MB file Nexus 10 does not open the file immediately. Usually that takes about 3-5 minutes because pdf contains a lot of details.
PDF apps what I have tested: ezPDF, Office Suite, Adobe.
So I started looking app what can open original .cad-files. I found several, like Autocad, Inard CAD, Touch Cad.
What I need? I need app what open .cad or .pdf files and I can also add there in picture little notes; like delete this, add here socket etc.
