wanting to try android, flashed hspl 2.08 and updated the radio (2.12 was the first) major probs after that, either continuous reboot, or stuck in boot, freezing then reboot, and all at differing points (most were at a similar point in the boot sequence, but not all) most just sat at the htc splash without even putting up the rom version numbers, tried three other radios, 2.8, 2.9 and 2.10, the 2.9 was the only .51 version, same issue. Figuring it didn't like the radio, went back reflashed stock telstra rom (left hspl 2.08 on) became stable again, again tried other radios, back to unstable, now i'm back at stock, including spl1.66, not wanting to waste more time. After hearing so many success stories, I'm beginning to think that it is the telstra rom (1.72) is at fault (perhaps the radio rom is tied to it somehow?) and it will not accept anything else.
any ideas? can someone suggest a good wm rom that is compatable with telstra nextg? (ie one that works out of the box on the nextg network) so that I can at least try android
Hey Mate, good to see someone else from Oz here...
Am with the same network and am using Dutty's Creme de la Creme version 15 (latest) with radio 2_11_50_26. Have found this to be a good combination here with the next G network. ROM works very well straight up.
Links to all these can be found on HD2 Rom Developement.
Not sure about Android as I don't use it, but this is a good WM ROM.
Cheers,

Thankyou for the advice - I too am using a Telstra HD2 flashed with Duttys 16 and had the problem with the phone freezen when volume changes were attempted during the call. Ugraded radio rom from 2.05 to 2_11_50_26, and all works now

That's good mate, glad to help. Am trying the new radio 2_14 and so far seems to be ok for Oz but have only had it on for 24 hours...but seems ok. Everything is working and seems a little quicker too.
Cheers,
thanks for the suggestions, unfortunately still getting instability, telstra stock rom does not have an issue (apart from overheating with IGO8) so i've gone back to stock
funny though, I think the whole issue may be related to the radio rom, because it didn't seem to affect dutty much when i had the original 2.07 radio, I wonder if it's because telstra has 850 instead of 900? - it should not be an issue, but I can't help wondering...
No issues at all
I am on the att network here in the US, I have been using Energy.Leo.21914.Sense2.5.Aug.28.7z for a few weeks now, first with 2_12 radio and for the past few days with 2_14 radio and I am having no issues with WM or Android (mattc Leo + Froyo w/Sense 1.5)
I have 4 android versions on the sdcard, the listed has been running for over a week with no issues, reboots, freezes etc. Hope this helps.
interesting, tried mattc leo +froyo (latest) could not get it to boot properly, it stopped booting a few secs into the sequence, however, desirebuild v5 worked nicely. having said that, once i had booted android, booting back into wm was horrible, had to put up with multiple boots before it became stable, and the more times it rebooted, the warmer it got? perhaps i have a problem with my hardware? definately does not like being warm
Wrong radio
I also have a Telstra branded HD2 and had heaps of troubles with lockups on phone ring, random lockups, battery wastage...I was rebooting the thing 2-3 times a day to keep it going.
I started on the stock Telstra but quickly moved to Artemis, then on to ClenEX OZ Rom.
I was continually upgrading radios trying to achieve stability without luck.
I then read that the the 2.XX.50.YY radios were for the Tmous build.
After moving back to a 2.XX.51.YY radio, stability is much better (currently on 2.09.51.03_2)
I've only had 2 lockups in 3 weeks and the battery lasts almost a full day of intensive usage.
My problem now relates to trying Android. I'm trying the mattc Leo + Froyo w/Sense RC1.6b - but all I get is a black screen after running Haret.
From what I've read, I suspect it's an issue with the WinMO ROM I'm running, even though it appears to be Android friendly.

Update for Radio 2_14 for Oz.
Hey Guys,
Have been trying the new Duttys Creme de la Creme version 16 with the new Radio 2_14 for the last 2 days. Had problems with both from the beginning, lock ups, freezes and echoes again in the telephone. Did a bit more research and found that both are designed for the USA networks. Have now gone back to Duttys Creme de la Creme version 15 with Radio 2_11_50_26 and everything is rock stable and fast again. By far the best combination for Oz and Talstra. Duttys roms are brilliant.
Have also tried Chucky ROMs and found these to be fast and stable also but personally do not like the white GTX theme, (bit hard on the eyes). The Oz ROM by the Scotsman is also good.
Have tried many other ROMs also, Energy, Artemis, Clean Ex, etc (About 20 others) but always have come back to Dutty for speed and stability.
Seems most ROMs need the xxxxx 50 xxxx series radio and the 2_11_50_26 is by far the best for Oz and Telstra, having tried most. I found the xxxxx 51 xxxxx series radios to echo during calls on the majority of ROMs.
Radio 2_10_50_28_2 is also good, but a little heavier on battery. Radio is very clear with phone calls though. (Personally, I need battery time.)
Hope this helps guys, for me the above combination of Duttys Creme de la Creme version 15 and Radio 2_11_50_26 is a keeper.
Cheers,
Kossi.
thanks for all the info peeps, but just got my hd2 back from telstra after overheat and reboot one too many times. turned out to be a faulty component. will think about putting dutty back on, but not sure i want to, if i do it will be with radio 2.07.51.xx (apparently it's the best for battery, that's why telstra chose it) after using my desire for a week, i discovered that i don't really like android, so i won't be going down that road again. funny that, got, develop, use and like linux on everything else, but not on my phone, go figure
Hi, I am stil unlear to teh difference in radio versions. x_xx_50_xx vs x_xx_51_xx. Has anyone compared 2_11_50_26 to te latest 2_15_50_14 on Telstra? Like everyone I just want the best, clearest, stable radio to suit all roms!! I don;t ask for much do I!!!!

Hi I have been through a few radios and am now using 2_15_50_14 if i remember right the 2_11_50_26 drains the battery fairly quickly I am happy with the current radio i also have telstra.cab on hand that configures your phone for telstra regardless of which rom you flash, very handy.
As for x_xx_50_xx vs x_xx_51_xx the x_xx_50_xx enables 576mb ram and to be honest apart from that I wouldn't know the difference or even if it matters. got me thinking tho might check it out as it could be why I am having data connection issues when running desire HD versions of android
hmmmm

Title says it all. I had tried the HTC South African ROM, and liked it, but I couldnt get the keyboard to correspond with the 8525 symbols. Searched all day and decided that it wasn't worth the minimal speed increase. Instead of going back to the ROM I had, the 1.34...ROM, I decided to go with this one since it has AKU 2.6. I am so glad I did!
I live in Queens, and 3G has NEVER worked in my house. Only certain times throughout my day I would see the U symbol on my phone. And it was in south Middle Village, not near my house. Since I upgraded/downgraded the ROM, not only do I have U in my house, but after 8 dslreports.com tests, I averaged over 800 kbps and peaked at 972Kbps! Perhaps its a coincidence that U is up and running here today, but I seriously doubt it! I also upgraded the radio to 1.20 and noticed a slightly less wait time for 'locating" in PIE. The OS seems faster as well, but not much faster, than the newer Cingular ROM. To any Cingular 8525 owners out there this ROM is definitely worth a look!
There must be a reason that they decided 3 WEEKS LATER to go back to AKU 2.3. Is there a bug in this ROM that I haven't discovered yet?
The radio upgrade is what made UMTS more accessible. The OS portion of the ROM didn't have any effect on your wireless. AKU 2.6 is reported to have problems, but I never personally tried it or tried to track them after I read MS Voice Command wouldn't work with it. There was a lot of discussion about AKU 2.6 in the Wizard forum, you might find some info there.
Did you install the newer radio code independently, or did it come with the South Africa ROM?
I noticed the increase in UMTS accessibility after upgrading the ROM. I upgraded the radio only to minimize the "locating" delay in PIE, activesync, etc. It mihgt be a coincidence, who knows.
Cyberon works fine w/this ROM. I never really cared fpr VC, it uses too much RAM and is a lot slower than cyberon IMO
The reason for the thread was to hopefully find out what the problems are that have been reported. Seemse strange that Cingular made a new ROM a few weeks after and went back to 2.3
I don't know why they went back to aku 2.3, but for the problem you where having with the keyboard, you could have solved it by installing a cab in the cingular's extrom (don't remember now exactly wich one).

Yeah, I had searched, and searched, and found one of your posts that spoke about a cab with "keypad.." in the name, but I downloaded TWO Cingular ExtROMS and that file was not in either of them. When I first installed the 1.35 ROM, I replaced its extrom with the newest Cingular extROM, to no avail. I don't mind though, I like this ROM so far and it hasn't caused any issues for me. And its Cingular-issued, so all of the settings were there for me.
Hi
I have been running the AKU 3.3 ROM for about 2 weeks now with the 1.27 RadioRom.
Previously I was running the HTC 1.35 from South Africa.
Well, since I've suffered heaps more occasional annoyances than with 1.35.
Things like: backlight that stops working and you need to reset. Bluetooth turning off.
And the device is so much more sluggish. Everything feels slower.
In comparison, with the 1.35 I never experienced a crash, device was incredibly responsive and my battery consumption was much better.
The only noticeable difference with AKU 2 and AKU 3 is the Internet Sharing application (at least that's the only one I've been able to notice). Which means that I don't need special driver to use my iMate JasJam has a USB modem.
Anything else work just the same. So what was the point or advantage of AKU 3.3 over AKU 2.x ???
Thanks
Jean-Yves
I have been running the AKU 3.3 for about 10 days and after a 5-10 hangs up which follows by soft reset a day and a lots of other issues like slower response, hangs up when received a call I have put on the SA 1.35 ROM and this problems disappear....I was running the Cingular AKU 3.3 with radio 1.27...now I’m running SA 1.35 with Radio 1.27...the only problem I have noticed after downgrading is that after switching from Flight mode to Radio ON I’m unable to sent messages...I’m getting an error saying to check SMS center number etc...but after a few retries I’m able to send SMS again...I think it is related to the Radio ROM...the battery drain looks like the same on both ROMs…that’s my opinion on the AKU 3.3…so will wait for a more stable version to come out…
Regards,
Primoz
I have been using this 2.05ROM for two weeks without any major issues compared to SA 1.35 ROM.
Only differences I've noticed so far:
- When bluetooth hf is connected, the backlight of the phone
cycles every few minutes = it's off and then goes on for 2 mins (this time has been set from the backlight timer)
- Resco explorer is very very slow with this new rom
- Ugly blue color theme on the Comm manager
I have been running the swedish AKU 3.3 testrom since it came out and i have'nt noticed any of the problems you mention.. Resco explorer is even faster than ever.
Will be cool to try the Wm6 rom soon
I've been running the AKU ROMS (first Swedish then the Egnlish HTC with radio 1.34) and I only can say: perfect! Much more stabile, faster, less hangs (TomTom), no more call drops. I'll never go back!

yes it is talking about WM6....
I have been experiencing problems with hand-overs whilst in the 3G mode.
This started about 4 weeks ago and affects all Radio ROM's on WM5 and WM6.
What happens is that when moving from one cell area to the next, the signal is lost and the phone disconnects. One has to then force a connection again. This does not happen if the phone is set in the GSM mode.
The problem is network related and well known to Leaf Wireless.
They informed me that a WM5 upgrade would be posted at the end of this week which included the fixed Radio ROM.
They will however not be including this Radio in their WM6 upgrade to be issued at a later stage. ( To protect the sales of the comming Kaiser?)
Is this fair treatment to hand out to their loyal customers?
So your phones that were purchased from January on, will not benefit from the ugraded OEM's and fixes on the WM6 release.
I was planning on upgrading to a Kaiser, but after waiting patiently for a better ROM for sooooo long, and now this news - no chance!!
I expected better for a device costing +/- R8000 ($1,100)
As far as I know, radio firmware do not depend on the OS. You would normaly be able to extract the radio version from the WM5 rom and flash it on your WM6 device.
If they really change the way the OS interact with the radio, it is really screwed; but I am very doubtfull about it
basilrsa, are you currently on WM5 or a cooked WM6 (or maybe the official Asia one)?
I have never really experienced a disconnect problem when switching cells, but more of a "data hanging" issue, ie. it will show it is still connected, but no data is flowing. This has been on WM5 (Pre-AKU3 radio and AKU3 radio). I am currently on 1.48, and it seems much better. I see you are on Vodacom ... they have been having problems with that for a long time now

Thanks for your view, it is appreciated.
Yes, I will be able to extract the Radio from the WM5 release and flash it to my device.
The problem is that many users in SA want their warranty intact. By altering the standard ROM's they void their cover.
The point is how can they provide the new Radio with WM5 and not WM6 which they intend to release, but with a buggy Radio!

The problem does exist as a new Radio attached to WM5 will be released at the end of this week.

please post it if you manage to extract it !!!
Hey Guys, I am seeing a ton of different radio version and no clear BEST RADIO. Can anyone help me pick a radio to use. I am in LA and am using Shaps new 3.60a release
148 and above sucked for me in the LA area. I would use 143
currently using 1.47 and will probably stay with it.
I have tried everything. I am in the OC area however Schaps 3.54c with AT&T.
did you upgrade to 3.6 from 3.54? if so any major differences?
I didnt like 3.60a shapps, i mean I thinks its def the best looking of any of the roms out there, but it was REALLY SLOW, and I mean go and cook yourself a meal while you wait for your contacts to come up. I just put the latest VP3g mod on my phone and it works great, its faster and i dont have that annoying wait time when i hit the message button and it takes an eternity.
Just upgraded my phone to WM6.1 and enjoying it, but I heard something about the ability to upgrade the radio rom on the phone.
I've heard that some radio roms can increase reception, but also decrease battery life and cause some calls and messages to miss.
I'm using T-Mobile USA on my Wizard. Have there been a better radio rom that doesn't cause these issues, or should I just stay with my current radio rom?
if you have no problem with your current radio i would stick with it. read lots of posts on radio upgrading. some people get great results and some have problems.
from what i have red 2,19 seems to be the most stable.
you can always test it for yourself. all the radios are availible in the ftp server including the original t mobille usa radio
Hey Duke what rom are you using?
Official Tmobile rom with WM5 and radio 2.25.11 never missed any calls for me, as soon as i went with TNT's 6.1 latest rom, i started missing calls and voicemails. Flashed to 2.71.11 radio - same, now i applied the radio cab fix from here(post #6) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=317331&highlight=tmobile+Radio+ROM (per advise of mmeyer) and testing currently. If that doesnt work - will flash to 2.19 that seems to work for most US MDA Tmobile people. Just hate to go to older radio that has much worse reception than even 2.25
