Hi,
With apologies if I've overlooked the solution elsewhere, but a lot of searching has not yielded any answers...
Is there any way to disable the "unable to establish data connection" error message that my HTC HD2 pops-up with? The Settings for on-screen Display in Settings > Notifications > Connection Established/Disconnected are already disabled, and I can't see an applicable entry within the Registry.
The notification occurs, typically when I'm driving and is especially irritating because:-
1. When using Sat-Nav, the error often freezes the display screen until "dismissed".
2. The error stays on-screen until manually dismissed, despite the data connection re-establishing in the background!
Again, apologies if this is a newbie question but my searching hasn't found an answer.
Regards,
Richard Tubb.

Is there a way to disable the popup dialog when the phone is trying to search/re-search for the network?
It's a bit annoying now, with pocketdivx you can get it to turn the screen off to save battery while you're playing mp3. However everytime when the network drops off and on (train going into tunnels, me going into lift, etc), the dialog pops up saying "Searching", which turns the screen on again.
Thanks...
Pigeon.
Hey, be pleased that you see that popup, it means the XDA is trying to establish network connectivity. As you may see, most of us complain that the XDA does not automatically attempt to reconnect to the network after signal dropoff !!
Well yes, but what I'm after is, disabling the popup balloon. The system can do whatever, reconnect/re-search the network in the background, but that popup message balloon is kind of annoying sometimes.
Hello all,
I am wondering if perhaps someone knows how to stop ALL the pop-up balloon msgs in WM2003? I there is a fix to get rid of the annoying battery low pop-up, but I want them all gone. None of them are of any use to me - the title bar icons do the job just fine!
I am especially starting to hate the "can't connect to GPRS" message when I am not in an area with good reception the phone tries to automatically check my mail...
Thanks,
xnappo
there is a regestry tweak to remove that anoying battery low pop up. search around the main site not the forum and you will find it.
Yeah, I know about that one, but I would like to know if there are any registry tweak for the GPRS popups (like can't connect because I am using the phone, can't connect to check email because there is no GPRS signal - check settings etc.

Chris
Stop GPRS connection popups
Has anyone found a way to stop the popup balloons when the device goes in and out of service or tries to connect when it is out of service?
It is annoying to try to read offline content in AvantGo or Mobile favorites and have the balloon pop-ups appear on as it tries to connect to get other content.
In addition to the popup, when my device is out of service and tries to sync my mail it also turns the device on. Since have the device set the keep the backlight on for 5 minutes it is killing my battery life when it turns on in my pocket and I don't know to turn it off.
I am using the XDA1 on T-Mobile w/ WM 2003
I'm getting connection errors several times a day that require me to soft-reset the phone. Basically an error message pops up on the home screen from the EV or "bars" icons that says "Dialed: Phone as Modem. Cannot Connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacturer's documentation and try again." I also get a nearly identical error: "Dialed: #777. Cannot Connect for an unknown reason. To check your connection settings and change them if needed, tap Settings. If the problem continues, reset your mobile device according to your manufacturer's documentation and try again."
Sometimes, the EV box will change to 1x and then back to EV and the bars display will drop for a moment and show the "antenna" rather than the arrows. This will then cycle over and over.
I am running the original ROM without much else installed (emoze, Sprint Picture Mail, and Windows Live Search). Its been getting worse in the past week (bad enough that I started searching forums for discussion of it).
Anybody having similar problems?
UPDATE - I called Sprint and they said they are aware of the issue and said that they are working on it but don't have a permanent solution at this time. What they had me do was use the dial pad to log into the phone and change the account profile and then change it back. Not sure if that did anything or not since I just got off the phone with them and haven't had enough time to see if it's helps.
I think your problem is similar to mine. I haven't gotten a chance to call them, but all I did was turn the phone communication option off then on and data connection back on.
Does anyone get the problem of their phone repeatedly saying it needs to have the time zone set?
I must have set it about 20 times, but it still says it can't detect it on regular occasions.
I only get this when I enable aeroplane mode because it can't communicate with the network.
Maybe you have poor signal in your area?
Try turning off the auto-update in date & time settings and instead sync the clock with your PC using HTC sync.
Do you per chance have the com.htc.provider force close problem?
It seemed to correlate with what you're reporting, but I fixed the force closing by clearing data for Peep and Twitter Widget in Manage Applications (Settings > Applications).
Thanks for the tips. I'll try them out. Signal strength is a possibility
now ive tried many key words and phrases to search, maybe im just searching wrong or something but i cant find any fix to this yet im sure others have experienced it.
basically my data keeps turning on every 10 minutes or so after i switch it off. no programs are running, weather not set to update, youtube hasnt been set to login and neither has twitter, activesync set to usb. the only home screen tabs i have are messages, internet, photos&vid, and weather. time isnt set to update via internet. auto update of database within the data connection are turned off, auto config turned off
im on the verge of hard resetting.
not sure, but maybe WMLongLife could help to identify the culprit, as with each new connection it asks you to define connection type/access
go to settings tab / more / connections / connections / advanced / choose networks -> programs with automatic internet access use: set to "firmennetzwerk" (i guess its work network or something similar).
now your phone doesnt connect data anymore..
if you want to connect it again, you have to change that again..

Did you uncheck "My Location"?
have you tried the "no data.cab" file works for me
yea ive looked into the above solutions but didnt want anything semi-permanent.
ironically i soft reset the device about 4 times within 30min and its back to normal now...go figure.
Search for dialup enablerdisabler. Install it first thing after a new Rom. Goto start find it and disable data once and for all
