I have this problem with my HD2 that i just can't seem to track down on this website just yet, and i have seen one or two persons having the same problem.
when i try taking a picture on my hd2, the picture comes out really sweet i must say, but when taking the pic at night i realise that the dual led's have a lag with the picture actually being taken (about a half second difference), so that the picture is taken AFTER the flash has already stopped, thus leaving the pic as dark as ever, is there any fix for this yet? i'm using mattc Leo + Froyo w/sense 1.8 [kernel: 2.6.32.15 #5] anyone else here having this issue?
i tried out the search but could only find other people having problems with brightness of the flash and other such issues but not the same as mine so i opened a new thread sorry if i didn't enter the correct search criteria and thanks for your time.
That build uses the EVO kernel, the camera flash is a very well known problem right now.

so you mean there's no fix to this and i can't take any photo's at night or in poor lighting? are there any other roms out there that don't have this issue? (and can run as smoothly as this one cuz i find it to be pretty impressive minus the issues i have with the camera flash ofcourse) thanks again!
please people, is there any build out there that doesn't have this issue? are all the builds here created from the Evo kernel, and if not are there any that don't have this issue? i mainly take pictures at night (usual night life activities) and this doesn't help out at all when the camera lags behind the flash.

Hi all, I have bought my X10 some months ago.
I upgraded regularly my phone up to the first dualtouch release (rooting the phone regularly).
I experienced random problems with the stock roms (reboots) when using some applications and in particular when data is on.
The battery used to go hot sometimes and I had to remove it and put it back in place so that the phone could work again.
I have tried some 2.2 custom roms and the most stable I have found is the tripnmiui 2.2, probably in my case more stable than the stock rom.
I went back to the last 2.1 stock release (2.1.B.0.1) but the video recording works badly and I have reboots when capturing videos generally after 40 seconds.
I have noticed it reboots with trip's rom as well if I take videos in 720p.
I have not tried to go back to older stock releases supposing the last one was performing better.
Would you please suggest me a 2.1 stock rom or a 2.1 custom rom where the camera and video work just fine and I have little battery problems?
If there is a 2.2 rom where I can use video and camera like in the stock rom, would you please suggest it to me?
I am really pissed off.
I am an Ericsson employee (not SE) and I bought this phone so that when I am at the customer they do not see me hanging around with an Apple or a HTC or a Samsung (I received some comments in the past about going around with a Nokia).
But if this phone is so bad I swear I am gonna change it asap and never get another one (in Italy they unfortunately give us company phones which are more like K550, like stone age phones which I will never use).
If there is a way to fix it good, hoping that we get 2.3 asap, either way this is gonna go for sale and I'll get a new samsung or a HTC maybe.
Please help me if you can.
The 2.1 ROM bitsnacker by go3asy with camera enhancements and speed enhancers and performance mods is awesome. Plus it looks cool. No problems at all. Give it a look in the development section.
I personally love the phone. Gingerbread hopefully comes at the end of the month. Maybe.
If you need any links for things I will post them when I get home if you need any or help the flashing stuff.
Just let me know or others know.

Any of you have experienced camera problems (reboots) with stock roms in particular the most recent when capturing at 720p?
It is really strange in my opinion. I also got random reboots while using applications and that battery priblem (it becomes hot at times when data is on and the phone starts rebooting or does not turn on for a while).
Thanks Voelker, I will surely give it a try. I guess it would be great if you can provide the link as well. Thanks in advance.

Ok, I have found the ROM and installed it.
I still have an issue with my video recording in HD.
Recording stops after a few seconds and the system reboots.
Using bb_54 according to the build.
I am thinking something is wrong with the camera.
I have seen that there is a post with a zip file to fix the camera.
Maybe something went wrong in some of the flashing???

Yeah the reboots shouldn't happen. You can use flashtool over or seus to see if that can repair it. But I hope your problem gets solved.

The key words here is that you mention the overheating.
This was caused by a early baseband that overheated the chipset.
So you have residual damage on the motherboard and that causes the reboots.
I had the same issue.. after they replaced my motherboard all was good.
Overheating happens really rarely to be honest though.
I don't understand if there is a relation between overheating and video not working.
I just wanted to understand where the camera firmware resides and if and how it is flashed when changing baseband/rom.
Ok, last test performed. Went back to an old stock 2.1 release (2.1.A.435). Video recording in HD still causing reboot after a variable amount of time. Some other random reboots happen and the overheating problem happen sometimes as well. I would definitely say it is a hardware problem then. I will try to give the phone to an authorized maintenance center.
The X10 is now having maintenance. Let's just hope they won't waste my time trying upgrades or SW repairs.
I haven't applied it yet, but I want to, just to see if it will fix the massive issues I've had with this phone. I know it supposedly breaks root, but I don't care about that. I know it also should fix the missing phone icon on the lockscreen (broken in 1.13.651.7).
Any issues?
It suck. Gps doesn't work when I really need it to, home page goes blank after hitting home from texting (sometimes), Gps symbol stays crossed out after turning off and back on, and worst of all front facing camera doesn't work...instead I get the rear image fliped upside down. I'm not rooted, nor do I need or want to. I'm going to try to take it 2 a store in the morning. I'll try to do a update when i find out more.

Im loving it. It feels smoother than 2.3.3 IMO. Also, GPS locks faster than usual. Overall, I feel its an a great upgrade to the guts of the OS.
I'm running Synergy Nightly BTW so my results are skewed.
Why don't u just backup and flash the stock ROM with the update built in and see. U can test it out without losing root
That's what i ran before my current ROM and it ran good. Weather fix and screenshot was really nice

I dont know why your camera does not work because mine and about 8-13 other evo 3d's my friends own all work after the ota. Our gps locks on hella lot faster also. I have literally NO issues so far. plus, my battery life, increased by a whole day with heavy texting, bluetoothing music to my headphone for 6+ hours a day, and 3g pandora.
My only Quirk that bugs me is when unlocking the screen sometimes it goes into the camera but that is it.
I dont notice much difference other than that

Same here + the camera looks better.
Initially, I was disappointed by the performance of the ROM, but I later found that my tweaking I did to build.prop (increase dalvik vm, gui forced to run hardware acceleration) was actually causing this version to perform poorly compared to the 1.13.651.7 ROM. After not using those tweaks anymore, the 2.08.651.2 update is running smoothly. Only complaint I have is with the new CIQ spyware that is on this version However, it is easily removed with custom kernel and uninstalling the proper apks.
Love it. Camera green hue is gone for me. Built in screen caputure (power+home button). Adjusting volume no longer cause stutter when viewing videos. Everything just runs smoother. I say upgrade away.
Thanks for all your responses.

A couple of these problems I've had before upgrading anything (GPS went out once when I was outside in the middle of LA, GPS icon stays on/off after switching it off/on). Hopefully I won't get your other issues, but everything else is going wrong with this phone, so I'll probably try the custom-rom-upgrade first.

Haven't rooted yet because if it's this buggy when I'm using it like it supposed to be used, I fear it will be twice as bad and maybe bricked when I actually try to get tricky with it.

I am really looking forward to the screen capture.
I have to say...Stock roms being buggy does not equate to custom roms being twice as buggy. I would highly recommend you root before taking the OTA and checking out some custom roms. You might be quite surprised with the performance. Just my 2 cents though. Good luck either way!

My "DU4L C0R3 SH00T3R" shot you down in 3D! -Security Off-
Seems a sneaky dev swiped it from a Galaxy III demo unit at a show.
Its now available for any device.
I plan on giving it try later today.

Has issues on mdeejays ICS rom (gsm). Pretty often, the screen does not update after doing a swipe (meaning you actually are on the next screen, but it continues to show the previous one right after the transition is done.)
Tried deinstalling Chainfire, which helped with some minor artifacts, but did not solve the real problem. Anyone else having these issues?

same issue here. Assume its similar to the chrome browser flickers, and in the giffgaff app when you try and open the keyboard it fails.
think the GSM leak has a few minor bugs in it still
I did find though sometimes if you leave it a minute, go into the article a minute and back again, or flick quickly back and forth a few times it rights itself
Been running this for a day or so.
Working good so far.

Engadget
Abc news
BBC news.
All others are working correctly. Also I'm running this from my sd because when I had this on my internal mem it fc on everything.

So far, so good
Installed it last night on my Senseless ROM from monx and have had no issues so far.
I was a little disappointed that the app doesn't download stories for off-line reading (I spend 80% of my commute underground with no data service). In that regard, I am back to Pulse as my main news reader. It does exactly what I need.

EDIT. Nm I see it in the OP.

I would have liked to just post this in the ViperRez thread, but I guess the rules dictate I must ask it here. I'm running ViperRez 1.03 and I absolutely love it. However, after searching the thread, and trying a couple fixes, I am still getting the issue with the camera not functioning. You go to take a picture and it seems like it fails to auto-focus and then just boots you back to your homescreen. No FC error or anything. It's seemingly random, and quite frustrating. My questions is whether or not there has been a definitive fix to this problem or not. And if not, does anyone have any recommendations for a good quality camera app to replace stock?

Fix works for camera, but not for video
Turning off auto focus and face recognition works for the camera, but the video function still closes back to the home screen. Any suggestions on how to fix that are most welcome.

Thanks for the tip. I don't mean to be negative, however I still don't get 100% functionality from doing this. I took 5 pictures just now and on the 6th it did it. And not to mention, with auto-focus turned off, 3 of those 5 are extremely blurry. Is this bug an issue with the rom and the hardware or just a bug with the camera app? Could using a different camera app from the market help? I absolutely love this ROM but its looking like I'm going to downgrade my entire user experience and use a sense 3.6 rom. It seems like it should be such an easy fix, I'm used to much bigger hurdles on much harder phones to dev for.
I don't mean to come across as entitled, I'm just confused really. I came from the Bionic and the Droid X, both of which had locked bootloaders, yet the development for those phones seemed to go much smoother. Seems like with this phone, only sense 3.6 roms are stable. Everything else seems to be spotty at best. I'd be happy if AOSP worked correctly, I don't really NEED sense. AOSP roms have more issues than the camera.

Try swapping your storage partition default on the camera app. It shouldn't be doing that, mine's been working great for months and I take a lot of pictures.
Mine started acting up as well after a few days of use. I ended up just reflashing the rom to fix it and so far so good. Next time I might just try flashing the kernel alone and see what happens. I have a feeling its a rom issue though since im on vinylfreaks kernel and not the stock one, ( runs cooler with it).
I also wish there was just a way to reflash the camera app. I might try extracting the rom zip file also next time but it happened to me out on the road and I needed the camera working so couldnt do much troubleshooting
edit:
found this post, seems like the same problem. He used titanium backup to wipe camera app data. check the link below

my camera on htc evo 3d has stopped working since a long, I've tried many roms and kernels but in vein... by what ever measures i have taken it still have the same response i.e splashes the blank screen and then returns to home screen (whenever i tap the camera app). further i got my mobile camera (hardware) checked from local stores they have checked and found that camera is alright in terms of hardware and they further added that there must be something missing in software...
Please help me to get rid of camera issue, favorable response is highly appreciated please!!!

Not sure what roms or kernels you have used but I do know that only sense roms have working 3d camera.
How about a little more information from you. What phone (cdma or gsm)? Current rom, kernel, and recovery?

I have used many roms such as SAD ICS, Yoda, cobra and some more but issue remains there, currently i'm using a rom which someone here posted as stock rom having software no: 3.28.707.1 and it feels like the stock, kernel right now is 3.0.16-ge733189 [email protected]#1 SMP PREEMPT, and recovery I've is 4ext touch recovery.
I'm not so technical sound with such things but i feel there must be a issue in camera.odex file... but obviously i'll respect your stance as i'm not so good at it.
