Hi everyone, I really don't know where locate this "thing" is happening to my hero but it is definitely related to ROMs.
I recently post my battery problem in the battery's thread in this forum but seems like a battery calibration was not the solution.
I used to have Floyo on my hero and it worked perfect, also battery life was pretty good. Since I changed it to try another one, I can not have any 2.2 ROM in my hero cause battery drains almost 15-20%/hour with wifi off, sync off, screen minimum, 2G network, just the necessary to receive calls.
I've tried all 2.2 ROMs with different kernels, always wiping everything and none of them works property. I decided to install a 2.1 ROM and voila, more than 2 days of battery. Does anyone have any idea of the problem?
Other thing is driving me crazy is why I have to use toggle set (because of handset problem->always is on even when is not plugged) but only with VillainROM 12 I don't have this problem, I thought it was a hardware problem.
For all of this, my hero is understandable, any light to see what's going on? Thank you all
BEfore flashing a 2.2 ROM, wipe EVERYTHING, including battery stats. Let then the battery drain to 0, and charge the phone with the wall charger for 6-7 hours, then turn it on while it's still plugged and leave it like that for 1-2 hrs. Then unplug it and there will be no more drain.
Maybe this could also help you, when you set up your 2.2 rom for the first time,
have you ever disable google backup?
I have been told that drain battery like hell....

Thanks, I'll try next time doing it in this way and I'll see the results thought I think it won't change cause even if it's not fully charged I wipe battery stats also when i flash
Batteries die with time, so if you keep having a problem, you can consider investing $20 in a Mugen Power extended battery (1550 mAh) which doesn't need the back cover to be changed.
I greatly recommend it.
So I just installed BAMF remix 1.7 on my newly rooted TB and it seemed slow with bad battery life. This seems to be atypical so I was wondering if anyone could help me out figuring out my problem.
I downloaded the rom and flashed it from rom manager, selecting to clear the cache and dalvic cache. The install went fine and I restored my user apps from titanium backup. While it was going through and installing all of these apps, super user force closed a couple of times. Then there were some applications that kept force closing like handcent, flexT9, and Swift keyboard X, but uninstalling and reinstalling them seemed to fix the problems. I then reset the battery statistics from cwm.
I set up the accounts and sync like I had before and in fact had less accounts syncing since I was only syncing facebook and not facebook and the htc sense facebook both. I didn't change the kernal but set the governor to power save after I started noticing the battery running out quick.
When I was on stock running adw or go launcher, I would get about 15 hours from a full charge on 4G. Today after a full charge I got about 6.5 hours on a full charge.
Should I have done a factory reset in there? Is there a different kernal I should try? Should I try to flash the rom again without using rom manager?
You should definitely wipe all data before flashing any custom ROM. Many people have also had a lot of issues flashing with Rom Manager, including myself. DL the ROM from the developers page, place it on the root of your SD card (not in a folder), rename it to "update.zip" with a file manager, then use ROM Manager to boot into recovery. Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and dalvic then apply update from SD card. If you don't have a file manager on your phone, rename it on your PC then move to the card. You should be good after that.
You need to wipe data when coming from a different rom.
Have you tried use Imoseyon battery saver or extreme kernel? It does gives great battery life if you find sweet spot on your TB.
PS. You must wipe everything if you are coming from another ROM.
I have the same issue as OP. I have wiped dalvik/cache/data. I did factory reset and I am running the BAMF 1.7 remix with Adrenalyn's Kernel and the new radio that's provided in the rom. I've read that this rom and kernel are good with battery life but mine drains at a very fast rate 1% about 3 mins. I don't have any data sucking apps. GPS is always off and Im on 3G using AUTO(PRL).
Any suggestions?

i had slow and no responsive with the screen it was pissing me off so i updated to gingerbread and it works like it should now. No 4 second lag and no anger
you should def do a full wipe before installating a new rom.
Battery life on 1.7 sucked for me too until I did a battery calibration, which I'd recommend doing after flashing a new rom.
- charge to 100% (turn phone off, wait till light turns green)
- boot into recovery, wipe battery stats
- reboot phone, unplug, wait till battery totally drains before plugging in again
I also went into the bamf toolkit and set the min to 245 and max to 1.024 w governor 'smartass'.
Since I did that the batt life has been much better, good luck.

thanks, I'm going to try redoing the install and this battery calibration. I'm actually trying to decide on whether to keep 1.7 remix or go stripped.
So I think my slowness was from putting the governor to power saver. It runs much better with smartass. I basically understand what the other governor settings do, but what does smartass do?

Basically, it sets the min and max as needed... like when its sleeping, it'll set the min at 245 mhz. At least that's what I understand lol

Also, there's a free app on the market called battery calibration by NeMo.. it'll let u kno when its charged to 100% and then it'll wipe it batt stats for ya.
Hope this helps

question about kernals, I installed bamf stripped so I don't have sense anymore. Can I still install the Adrynalyne kernals in kernal manager labeled "Sense" or do I need to find stock versions?

charged it to full last night, and with very light use it's at 27% after 4 and a half hours. I think I'd get to almost 6 hours if I let it run down.
That's some improvement but I think it may have more to do with not playing plants vs zombies any this time. The battery now gets fairly hot when playing PvZ when it didn't before.
I'm not sure what the problem is but I cannot live with only getting 4-6 hours of life out of a phone. I think I'm going to have to try a non-bamf rom.
I got around 14-16 hours on that ROM. What kernel/radio are u running? I also kept WiFi and Gps off when I wasn't using it. I also had min/max at 245/1.402.

I'm running 4G and keep wifi and gps off too along with the brightness being around 20. when I was non-rooted I got about 14-16 also (counting 7 hours of idle at night) I have my settings set to the same as before I was rooted. I'm running whatever kernal/radio came with sripped bamf 1.7. I had applied the MR1 update OTA unrooted when it came out but otherwise haven't changed anything regarding kernal or radio.

it shows the display at about 40-50%, 20 for car home screen (I have it on and streaming music during my 25 minute right to work, seems high but it's not on any more than that and the drain is still pretty constant). For instance, I charged it up to about 29% and it drained to zero and shut down while I was at lunch over about an hour an a half.
Looking at my currant widget log. I started at 29% at 11:43 then dropped 1% of battery every 2-3 minutes or so (while idle in my pocket) then it hit 8% at 1:03pm and stayed there till 1:08 at which point it shut down.
Just to add my $.02 ... I'm running BAMF 1.7. I don't mess with kernel settings or anything like that, just whatever comes with the non-remix 1.7 ROM.
Prior to last week, I was getting a good 15 hours on my stock battery (light - moderate usage), but something changed last week and I am getting pretty poor battery life now, like 6 - 8 hours.
I posted a reply over on a forum at Android Central but I haven't seen any definitive cause yet. Our theory is that an application update might be causing an issue. I was searching over here to see if anyone was having similar issues.
I'm getting much better battery life now. Got about 24 hours on 4G the whole time. I think it might have been because I was signed on to trillian but I still need to test. It's odd because before rooting I got 14-15 hours of 4G and I'm pretty sure I was signed on trillian then too.
Hi,
I just freshly installed CM9 ICS Alpha2 3/27 build on Touchpad.
My touchpad battery drops 2% - 3% every hour. I have installed the same build 2 thru uninstall and reinstall and the same result.
Is anyone else seeing the same problem?
Thanks

Why is this a problem?
2%-3% drop in battery every hour with CM9 Alpha2 ICS on Touchpad when idle
This is a problem since the review talks about a 1% drop every hour when the touchpad is idle. My touch pad has 2-3 % battery drop every hour when idle. Is this ok?

Ok, a bit different wont do much difference.
mine drops 1% or less every hour
the difference is not much but in 10 hour ill drop about 10% while the OP drops 20-30%... thats a lot

I have the 4G version of touchpad
I have installed Youtube, flash, dolphin hd browser, ES File explorer, Astro, RockPLayer lite etc.
I have reinstalled from scratch 3 times and still with the apps installed above I lose about 20-30 % every 10 hours which is a lot.
Does anyone have any hints?
i had the same battery drain issue. so i flashed 3/29 build and only loses battery 5% overnight with wifi off

Dump the Dolphin browser and check again, I have the same problem on my streak every time I install Dolphin.
Do you experience the same results if you airplane mode the tablet? I lose 5% per every 12 hrs when in standby with airplane mode on. Some Widgets and apps will continue to look for update while in sleep which will add to the battery drain.

I have taken out Dolhpin HD browser.. Seee what happens...
If that does not work, I will put it in airplane mode and see what happens...
I am skeptical of the 3/29 build since I tried it fresh instead of upgrade from the old cm9 and the wifi was disconnecting constantly.....I will try the 3/29 CM9 upgrade as a last resort.
When I had the nook on CM7 not CM9 this was not an issue and I had similar apps or more. What gives???????????????????? Is this because CM9 is still in its infancy??????
Wifi issues are intermittent and happen with a select few people. The fix, or closest thing to one that I've seen, is setting your regulatory domain on the tablet to 11 channels, and setting your router to use a lower channel - I have mine on 2, and it works like a hot damn. That should work for the wifi issues.
As for the upgrades, I've been running since the 9th of March with the dailies, upgrading every night or two, and haven't had an issue. What you can do, if you want, is do a complete ACMEUninstall, then ACMEInstall again with the latest nightly (April 01 works fine today), and try that. Or you can do the factory reset / downgrade and go from there - it is what I prefer, since it wipes EVERYTHING and resets it all to stock, then you can put a fresh install on.
As for the Market issue, try upgrading to the newest version of the GApps when you install, and then log in - it'll ask a few things, then restart the tablet and check for your apps.
For the power problem, couldn't really suggest much - I use about 15% or so an hour while reading on my Kindle, and powering the screen on and off while I am between work shifts. So I can't say what is causing your issues. What I could suggest is you do a completely fresh install, ditch Flash, and install stuff a couple items at a time, and check your consumption after a few hours - if it's down to 1-2% an hour, you're good. If it's up higher after 2-3 hours, then you know it's one of the things you installed at the last batch, and you can uninstall them and reinstall them one at a time to determine your drain.
It's what we do with hardware issues in the PC world - disconnect everything, then plug it all back in one at a time to see where the issue lies.
I have taken out Dolhpin HD browser. Did not help the battery drain issue.
I installed 3/29 build. Did not help the battery drain issue.
I have freshly installed the original build from the rootzwiki page (full of bugs). I will not install any add ons and see if that helps with the battery like you suggested. If the fresh install without the add ons (e.g flash, etc) helps, then I will install ad-ons one by one and debug the drain issue if it is one of the apps.
Thanks
Uh, yesterday i've let TP to discharge to 0, and found out that it STILL can't be charged beyond 1% in Android, and had to boot WebOS. I thought that the problem was sorted out already.
By the way, WebOS feels so damn smooth after ICS.

I haven't had any issues charging my TP while in CM9 (using the touchstone dock here). Also, I thought you weren't supposed to let the battery drain all the way to zero?
If you let it drain that much, you MUST use the provided adapters and start the charge process within WebOS. It's a bug that exists where when you let it drain too much, it sets the charge level to Trickle Charge (to help prevent damage to the charge circuits and battery). So, boot it with the provided charger (Touchstone or the charge plug and cord that came with the box) into WebOS and let it power-charge that way, and you're set. Once it's charged to about a quarter, you're good to go back to Android and charge fast from there.
Did you ever give airplane mode a try while in standby? Considering that my phone will go almost 48hrs with light use and Widgets and email updating hourly, I'm putting money on the 4g radio being part of the problem. Also considering that 4g uses more battery, it makes sense to me anyways.

I've drained my TP several times, but never had an issue charging through android.. I'm using the Touchstone Dock, maybe that's the difference? I've never used the stock charger.

Not always - Airplane mode turns off every source of emission - Bluetooth, wifi, ADB over network. Wifi off turns off Wifi, but leaves on other stuff.

There's a bug that happens to the odd person where it sets itself to trickle charge if it isn't plugged in properly with WebOS - you can fix it by plugging in the stock charger / touchstone while booting into WebOS, and it resets the funky problem. But it's sporadic and happens randomly.
And where are you lucky sod's with your 4G Touchpads ? I wish we'd had something like that up here... then again, with our wireless data plans, I take that back...
try the newest nightlies. i feel like they have better battery life than the alpha 2. maybe 1% per hour in standby
Hey!
I´m running Omega on my S3 and I love it but since I first installed it I´ve been having problems with the battery, it seem like it is just getting worse and worse.
I think I am getting 1/3 of what I got with the stock ROM.
Any ideas?
Before i have the omega rom and i have the same problem
i have install the Android Evolution HD and it's very better !!
Problem , Android Evolution HD is a simply rom like the original rom, but you have mods ^^
I have exactly samr situation as above poster, Omega and Android Revolution HD.
But I figure, at least to me, it is possible due to 2G/3G network connection

I've been using Omega for quite some time now and I've tried many settings to maximize battery life like shutting off radio signals, disabling fast dormancy, even using a darker wallpaper to save that extra bit of juice...but i must say this rom just finds a way of sucking all the battery out some way or the other.
I might try Android Revolution now hmm
Thanks guys!
First I thought it was something wrong on the hardware side but now I am sure it´s the ROM.
It´s a shame because I really like some of the features and aside from eating battery fast it also freezes, stops and turns into a brick for a minute or two sometimes. My beloved SGS III is no longer very reliable but I thought those were the consequences of starting to play with the ROM, this is my first time I do something to my Android phone. I´ve been jailbreaking and trying different things on iPhones but never on Android.
Seems like the only solution is to try a different ROM.

Yes, everytime after flashing a new ROM, you got to do this and give it a few days for the newly flashed ROM to settle down to be able to measure battery life better.

If I understand correctly, wipe battery stats only remove battery statistics, it does not improve battery life. See:
http://www.xda-developers.com/andro...-battery-stats-does-not-improve-battery-life/
Maybe check the Battery usage in Setting.
I get 48 hours on a single charge through configurations on Perseus. I opened up a thread to detail the config.

Tried this. Been a week...phone gets to 30 or 40% and switches off or freezes...trying another ROM
Hello,
After reading other threads, I've decided that I should post my case to see if I get a better answer.
A couple of days ago after being with SuperNexus 2.0 for a few months I decided to try the stock LSS ROM, I didn't like it and went back to SuperNexus again wiping the Battery Stats in the process to see if my battery life could improve (I know it's a myth, but I tried it anyway). After this my 1.2 years old battery has been crazy:
- Sometimes it will completely discharge it doesn't matter at what percentage the battery is.
- Sometimes the phone will shut down like if the battery is at 0% and it won't turn on again, but if I connect it to the charger it will show some charge (close to the one it has before the phone shut down) and the phone will turn on again. After this I can immediately remove the charger and the phone will work like normal.
What I don't like is that just before the phone randomly shuts down, the screen starts blinking and/or the phone hangs (it doesn't respond to the touch). I'm worry this could be damaging the phone itself.
Please refer to the screenshots (there is not photoshop involved, I swear).
I've tried to charge it to 100% (trying to get it as close to 4.2V as possible), I have pump charged it (disconnect/connect the charger until it doesn't drop to less than 100% immediately), reflash the ROM (wiping/format system, data, dalvik, cache, etc. the usual suspects), etc. but no luck.
I know it looks like a faulty battery, but it has never shown this behavior until I sadly deleted the Battery Stats. Will a new battery solve the problem or it will just be the same?
Any thoughts? Any help/recommendation will be appreciated.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Cheers.
P.S.: I have to say that before all this I was running Dori 9.14, but I ran the Kernel and the ROM wipe scripts (I know the ROM wipe runs the Kernel script too) between flashes.

Wiping Battery Stats is never a problem, people even do that to reset Battery estimates, try a reflash and a more stable kernel. As far as I know Dori 9.14 is not playing nice with some people.

Yes it sounds weird that deleting a file will screw your battery, but the coincidence here is huge, that's what I don't understand. With respect to Dori 9.14 (I only used it for a couple of weeks), yes i was running it before I did all this, I'm now running the stock Kernel that comes with SuperNexus (which never gave this kind of problems before).
I also removed the battery to see if it was maybe a faulty connection, but it stays in place very tightly.
Cheers.
