[Q] "H" connection disappears - HD2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Having been through all related threads I could find, I couldnt find one that addresses the problem im having. Where I live there is a full "H" signal, my friends get this connection no problem on the same network as me (o2 UK) but for some reason on my HD2 I only get this connection about 1 in 5 times and only ever when I restart my phone, even then it changes to "G" after 15 mins or so. I have a new sim card and a stock ROM and have no other issues with data connectivity but its seems random if I get the "H" or not, I have tried browsing for over 15 mins as some threads suggested this makes the phone switch to the faster connection but Ive had no luck with this. Any help/thoughts are welcomed,
Thanks,
Craig.

H = Hsdpa/Hsupa is depending of lot of parameters;
Improvement can be depended on location, device, Rom (but in minority) and important Radio!

My location is in fact the exact same seat in my living room where I get "H" full bars or "G" full so its not location thats the problem. lol. When I do get "H" it works perfectly but I dont get it often, thats my issue.

1.48 Rom is very old!!
Make a Rom update; you will see that the newer stock Rom have radio 2.07.51.22_2
Go to the www.htc.com site > updates > enter your Emei nummer and you will see the Rom who is compatible with your device/language.

I had the same problem with the 8525 using the stock ATT ROM and MMS. The only way i could make it work was to use a cooked rom(which you will like better anyways IMO). Make sure if you flash ur phone to use HardSPL to keep from bricking ur phone.
Here is a link to a good howto for flashing: http://www.mrvanx.org/cms/
Also if your going to flash it then you will need the keyboard layout fix here
We've already got HSDPA, thankyouverymuch ;-)
What ROM are you running on the 8525? Have you upgraded it to WM6 or is still running the pre-installed cingular WM5 one?
Smiffy.

umm and just forget the fact that it has 200mhz...vs. a 8525 a 400mhz...not the smartest comment lol
I have no idea. I am still trying to learn how to access all the features.
I had Nokia 9500 before that and this phone is slightly different.
WM and ROM info should appear when i am restarting the device?
I am pretty sure i had WM5,but i am not sure....
Just go into Start --> Settings --> System --> About and that will tell you what OS it is running
Oh..Thank you
It says:
ROM Version - 2.15.502.3
ROM Date - 04/09/2007
Radio Version -1.16.00.00
Protocol Version - 32.53.7018.01H

Raphael / Diamond Radio's

I know from dealing with the Kaiser that you can use radio's from the POLARIS, SEDNA, NIKI, NEON on Kaisers and vice versa because they have the same chip / chipset.
Being that the Raphael and Diamond have the same chip / chipset I assume that is can also be done.
I see that the Diamond Radios are:
Diamond_Radio_1.00.25.03.zip
Diamond_Radio_1.00.25.05.zip
Diamond_Radio_1.00.25.06.zip
Radio_Test_1.02.25.11.zip
The Raphael Shipped ROM contains radio:
1.02.25.11.zip
Shouldn't these devices be able to use radios from either the Diamond or Raphael?
1. don't try a diamond or raphael radio on polaris/kaiser/nike/sedna generation.
2. diamond and raphael are very likely exchangeable.

Yes nromally it should stay at 95 % for at least but no more than a minute, But eventaully it timed out and went into recorvery mode,
I was pretty sure it would work, i didnt try again, But if you need I can Upload this radio for you to test or have a look, it could be a one off bad flash

Be carefull what you try and flash, I wouldnt recommend just flashing a Radio stack from a Raph to a Diamond unless its proven to work sir.

Radio UMTS
Just a questions for the xperts. Can the radio on the Raphael be changed that all UMTS bands are available. We travel and should have it. Is it a Software or Harware issue?

I got the same Radio' version on mine, and I must say I'm quite disappointed so far. Where I used to have HSDPA everywhere at home with my TyTn, now I only get GPRS, and only sometimes in some places I can catch HSDPA. Plus I notice it's less responsive in some situation.
Is there a way to upgrade to another one?

Not just yet, however HardSPL should be ready to roll soon according to Oli/cmonex. The radios issue has been common on most devices, on the diamond (same chipset) the reception has been found to work best on a different radio version to that which was shipped....it will be remedied soon

NIKI100 F*&Ked UP

Every since i SPLed and changed to windows 6.5, my phone has been really funny.
Sometimes people cant hear me, sometimes they can, sometimes i get this crackly fingy on the line, just some funny noises on the line.
I have done the SPL thing a few times and HSPL as well and tried different flavours of ROM and radio ROMS but naaaa. Anyone had this issue and any suggestions on how to fix at all please?
Thanks
Sometimes you need to install a stock HTC rom and then reinstall the rom of your choice. I noticed weird things only in WM6.5 roms also, I thought my phone was almost dead, then I flashed an old stock rom, redid the radio and installed the rom again, and all was fine...so I tend to now go through this every half a dozen flashes, just to keep the phone running smooth.
As far as radio - I find 1.65.28.25 gives me the best battery life and WM6.5 needs a 1.65 radio (from what I understand).
I assume that the phone is CID unlocked - what version of HSPL did you install - 1.22?
DT
hey dt i think for a 20 key nike the best radio is 1.65.29.22
for a 16 key nike its 1.65.28.25 i think
cuz 1.65.28.25 sucked on m phone initially
.......about flashing a stock rom.... totally agreed
I installed HSPL 1.22 and am not too sure what radio but will try radio 1.65.29.22 as stated. Stock ROM... what does that mean please??? Oh yeah and its a 20 key NIKI

That means an official ROM version (like the one you had on your phone before flashing a custom ROM). There is a thread with many original ROMs here. Perhaps one of those helps.

Are we allowed to swear on this site? I have just about had it with my NIKI but cant bear to see this beautiful device go to waste. Could it be faulty? It works great with the earpiece connected. All these issues never happened until i decided to go high tech and change the ROM

Differences between radios

Hello
First of all sorry for my bad English.
What are the differences between radios?
5005.1700.05
5005.1600.05
5001.0300.76
Lately I've used the 5005.1600.05 and sometimes they said that they heard me wrong.
Now I want to change and do not know which to use, or 5001.0300.76 5005.1700.05
Any help?
Thanks
You forgot the Radio 5001.1800.26
I've tried all the radios of all of Rome and came to the conclusion that the version is 1800 for myself the best.
I can give only all radios guess yourself test to determine what is best for you, for your home and your provider have an influence on the radio.

That's right, for me too the 5001.1800.26 Radio is the most stable and the call quality is also the best.
I've tried all of them.... and this is the best!
I used to have the original radio included in the uk latest orange rom and think that that one is crap. Lots of noise on the line and the GPS dropouts were just ridiculous. I have now installed the 1600 with the TG Tool by combining it with the latest WM6.5 orange release and I can vouch for that one. At least with my unit and in the UK I have had no GPS dropouts anymore and the call quality is very good.

Hi guys,
I'm sorry I'm asking this, but maybe it's not explained coz everyone already knows...
Is there a way to flash a radio to the tg01 without flashing a rom? If so, where can I find the radios? It was usual (and well explained) for HTC Blackstone, but can't find anything similar here to tg01...
Thanks!
There is no way that I know to flash just the radio on the TG01 like it is done on the Blackstone. However there is a method that you can combine the radio of one rom to the rom of a different rom and flash the entire rom. This is it:
download cedemish´s TGTOOL http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=300180&d=1269768423 and install .NET 3.5 framework from www.microsoft.com
ROM with RADIO you want, rename it to tg01.tsw
Rom you want to CHANGE radio, rename it to tg01ori.tsw
then,use cmd follow these codes:
Code:
tgtool -sp tg01ori.tsw original.os.payload
this command will split out OS from original ROM named as original.os.payload
then,
Code:
tgtool -mp original.os.payload tg01.tsw TG01WP_00.tsw
this command combined original OS and new new radio to a NEW ROM
This was not posted by me initialy so credits go to the person that posted this.

there are no radios on their own because they can't be flashed on their own. Can people not read the instructions properly? Get the 2 roms you want. COMPLETE ROMS! Then use the instructions to extract the radio you want from a rom that has that radio and combine it with the main rom you want from another rom which you want but has a radio that you don't want. Does this make any sense? If it doesn't give up and stick with what you got.

if you think of the complete flash in terms of a complete system
then the complete system is made up of a Operating System & a RADIO
they are seperate entities (seperate items) but they cannot be separated independantly of one another
kinda like 2 sides to the same coin (heads & tails)
but as described in this topic, you can seperate any radio from any rom - but you must do this on your PC & then combine the OS with the RADIO you want & re-flash.
If you already have the phone as you want (apps settings etc) but want to change the radio, then take a full back up of the phone (which in essence is only a back up of the OS), create the ROM you want to flash then restore from the back up
end to end process will be about 45mins - not as quick as being able to extract just RADIO (like HTC), but pretty quick & easy nevertheless...
Cheers

I would suggest you flash the latest one, download it here, flash it like the main ROM - and don´t worry, no data will be erased.
To check what you have right now, either see what´s written in red letters on the white HTC screen when you turn on your phone, or check the information in the settings tab, phone information.
