Apps can send your imei code over the air? I red this at droidforums. Is this true? Sounds pretty serious.. Any advice? Must I be worried?

[Q] T-Mobile Warranty?

Hi, I have a very strange situation and in need of using warranty, if not exchange then at least a servicing...
I purchased my Vibrant from Ebay but never used it in US. I stay in India.
I have lost the phone's IMEI so desperately need it to be fixed which can only be done in US.
I might be in a position to send the phone to US with a colleague but the question is how should my colleague approach TMo to resolve the issue? Also the phone was unlocked so that I can use it in India. I can simply say that I had purchased an unlocked phone from Ebay. But how would I explain them that I do not use it in US and now since my IMEI is screwed up I need TMo's help in restring the IMEI?
Please help guys...
What do you mean you lost the phones imei??
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
in that case if the phones imei was set to lets say all 00 then they are not gonna be able to help u there they need to have the phone imei #
press *#06# from the dialpad you'll get the imei and the only way you can get it fixed is from samsung since you didn't buy it from t-mobile, samsung will cover it if the warranty is still good

[Q] blocked imei ?

hi every one
i bought a sgs2 from ebay last week , but somthing wrong with the phone
i can not mske any call or receive calls , and after along search in the net i think that the imei code is blocked.
that means :
1. the phone is stolen
or
2. The owner of the phone said to the company that his phone is stole in order tom cell the old one and they will give him a new one ...
what can i do ?
You did enter a sim card correct? Have you tried another sim card?
If the phone is stolen, contact the seller on ebay about it first. You should be able to get your money back as long as you return the phone. Otherwise, you just have a expensive paper weight.

NO, absolutely not.
IMEI is unique to one specific phone. It is, in fact, illegal for a consumer to change a device IMEI.
So based on your gross mis-interpretation here, you should really go back and try to re-evaluate the conclusions you came to in post #1, and start with the question "why can you not make or receive calls?"
EDIT to add: Did it occur to you that the phone may be SIM locked to a network that isn't yours?

There are far more than only three possible providers that the phone could be locked to.

i know some body that can change the imei but he take too much mony
iknow that what he do is illegal , but he can do that .
Unfortunately asking or receiving help from anybody on this forum about doing illegal activity like changing the imei can get you and the person helping you banned from this site as per forum rules.

XDA is not allowed to be involved in illegal activities for obvious reasons .
Your claim should be against the seller ebay or pay pal .

You say you cannot make phone calls, do you get signal? Are there any error messages?

If the phone is SIM locked to a different network than the SIM currently inserted, it will come up with a prompt for the unlock code when it boots. The symptom of a SIM lock is not that it won't register on a network.
If the phone is indeed SIM locked it can be fixed by following this guide.
It is also possible to change the IMEI although this is much more difficult and may be illegal in some jurisdictions. There is a range of "TEST" IMEI numbers that mobile phone manufacturers use, these are generally safe to use and work on most networks.

[Q] IMEI help

Hi I lost my phone but I have the EFS backup. Is there anyone to get my IMEI from it?
No, I believe it's encrypted.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk
I believe boomboomer is correct. I just tried to check my backups and i can get all sorts or info except the imei. Which i find odd considering its in plain text in the phones about, under the battery and printed on the sticker on the outside of the box when purchased.

IMEI strip?

Hi guys,
My tablet is out for a repair at the moment and I'm told that it is currently awaiting a replacement IMEI strip.
Does anyone know what an IMEI strip is?

Is IMEI.info trustworthy?

Hi there,
I was just curious and entered my phone's IMEI on IMEI.info. Not much interesting came out of it to be honest but afterwards I was wondering. Is it really smart to just share your IMEI with such a site?
Does anybody have any experience with IMEI.info and know their policy with entered IMEI codes? (I don't like the idea of them storing my IMEI)
Also, are there any serious risks of sharing your IMEI?
Thanks
