I thought "Home" was ADW Launcher since I had ADW installed, but I uninstalled ADW and something called "Home" is still using A LOT of CPU power. Any ideas?
"Home" is the default Home screen.
Do you have a ton of widgets that refresh often or a Live Wallpaper running?

Yea, "Home" is the default and I'm not using the default, I'm using ADw with no live wallpaper. I do have a couple of weather apps, but I removed them and it's the same.
Since 2.1 and the Face recognition, this home thing, my X10 is next to useless
I just looked at the "Home" log and it seems to be debugging like mad... WTF
It's debugging "dalvikvm", I will let it run, but it's been running for hours now. If anything has a solution or answer why "Home" is using up do much CPU power and why all this debugging is going on I would really appreciate it.

Sorry, running an Autonooted NC.
Did you press and hold on the screen to add a item then widget?

When I press and hold on the screen the only option I get is to Change wallpaper. Nothing about adding to the screen
When I do click the Change Wallpaper I only goes to stock Wallpaper/Photo Gallery screen, nothing about Live Wallpaper.
Any thoughts?
Oh, you have to have a launcher screen up.
Like Zeam or ADW Launcher. Not the stock home screen.
Pretty sure you need a home screen replacement in order to use widgets. Check out adw or launcher pro.
I am running GB 3.5, and then ADW Launcher 1.3.6 Standalone. I was using the stock MotoBlur/GingerBlur launcher 'home screen' for while I was at work...and the ADWLauncher 'home screen' for all my apps, entertainment, not at work stuff. Whenever I hit the 'home' button, I would have the option of 'ADW.Launcher' or 'Launcher'. Yesterday, the sensitive screen accidentally marked the check box for 'use by default for this action'. Now I am stuck in ADW.Launcher, and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get the original launcher with all my work settings on it to come up. I'm sure it has to be something really simple, but I'm at a loss.
Anyone know how to remove the 'use as default' checkbox so I can get both launchers back?
thanks
settings applications, adw clear defaults should do it

Why add an app and take up space when clearing the ADW defaults works?

Lol......cos' there's more than enough room on an Atrix. Don't think this one tiny app is gonna put storage over the edge. Also, if you end up trying different launchers, can make changing between much easier. Take a chill pill. A lot of people use it!

Clearing the adw defaults doesn't work at least not for me. If you install any other launcher you need the home switcher app or someone similar to be able to select motoblur again. Or uninstall the other launcher.
Clear Defaults is greyed out for me...says no defaults are set. I will try Home Changer app.
thanks
do you have titanium backup? if so, make sure that when you scroll down to "launcher", it is not frozen. If it is, just click on it and defrost it. then clear defaults and press home. voila!!
I went the 'Home Switcher' route, works well...and I have so much room on the Atrix I'm not worried about space....have 300+ apps right now, still running smoothly. It would be nice if the Home Switcher became part of the 'long-press' search button menu. Is there a way to do that? I know I downloaded an 'AutoRotate Switch' and a few other things that show up there. Does that have to be done on the development side, or can I somehow move Home Switcher to that menu for easy access.
Thanks for ideas, I always come to xda for the best solutions!
EDIT: So I added 'Home Switcher to my drop down notification menu using Bar Control, and am happy with that for now. I'm still curious about how it works getting things to long-press search menu though. Now that I have this quick way to switch Launchers, I'm thinking of adding a few more, like SPB 3D. Whenever I haven't been to the default launcher in a while, it takes a while to load, which leads me to believe it doesn't always stay active eating up resources while not in use. Anyone have any experience having 3 or 4 at the same time, and the impact on performance?

I have TB, so am I understanding correctly...I can freeze whole Launchers (all setup) if I won't need them for a while...and then un-freeeze them when needed...with everything returning as before? I've only frozen a couple things before, just testing it out...never a Launcher though.

This is why I mentioned Home Switcher. I had 5 or 6 launchers at one time, always switching back and forth "playing". I love my toy ........... I mean Atrix, and the launcher bug does bite until you find one or two which you will stick with. So many, and so many ways to customize. I never saw any performance hit with multiple launchers myself.
I've seen on reviews that when it's enabled, it's supposed to give you the option between switching to landscape mode or launching Widget Clock.
Mine just seems to flip to landscape mode when enabled (or do nothing when disabled).
I can't quite remember if maybe I saw the choice prompt once and told it to always put me in landscape, but that seems quite plausible.
I'm curious to try out Widget Clock now, but I can't seem to figure out how to make it come out anymore. It doesn't show up in the app list, and when I go to manage apps and scroll to Launcher Pro, the launcher I'm currently using, it doesn't show up as set as any defaults (which is odd, shouldn't it at least be my home screen default?), so there's nothing for me to clear out.
When your kickstand is in use and you are in landscape mode pull down the notifications menu. From there you will be able to access the widget clock and change your default preferences.
Turns out Widget Clock only works if you're running the default Motoblur launcher. I was running Launcher Pro, and the notification never pops up.
That's a shame.

Noticed this as well. Using Go Launcher EX.

Try using Home Switcher to go back to MotoBlur and then activate the kickstand.

Yup, that's how I discovered the root of the problem. Pretty awkward way to use this feature in the long run, though. I'm just going to be turning off the feature.

I'm using GLEX and my Widget Clock works fine on kickstand and in my HD dock. If it doesn't automatically pop up, hit your home button and it should switch to the clock.
I'd been a big fan of ADW Launcher EX for a long time.
It seems the development has died unfortunately though.
My favorite feature was the ability to quickly switch between 2 dockbars. One had the standard 4 + app drawer button, and the other was a scrollable dock which effectively could contain many more.
This was great for phones (not really needed in tablets) where I needed 6-8 quick access apps.
The very last versions of ADW completely removed this feature, inexplicably. I'm running the version that last had this feature, which runs okay, but was hoping for more ICS features.
I cannot find any currently maintained Launcher that also has this feature (Apex and Nova Launchers don't to my knowledge). Many/most have scrollable dockbars, but no quick-switch alternate ones.
Anyone know of any?
I know Zeam Launcher (free from the market) has scrollable dock, but not sure what you mean with alternating docks.
Zeam's a known entity. Nice and quick. But no alternate dockbar.
The dockbars can be switched with a button press, or gesture. I linked mine to home. Press home while in launcher-->5 other apps pop up as a dockbar. Press home again-->back to the original 4+app drawer button. Repeat.
Ah,never knew this was in the old ADW Launcher! I use CircleLauncher to popup more apps from my home. But can't use hardware button.

I tried out TSF shell briefly, still needs some development but was a nice change from the norm
Has all apps on the main home screen with some great looking scrolling animations
Is this possible without rooting? I have zero use for S Voice, so this function is pretty much being kept from a valid use.

I am using Apex launcher and it has an option to assign the button to any app you choose.
I have mine set to go home if not in home screen and then dialler.

Thanks! I'm not too keen on running any other launchers, curious if it's possible without doing so. I'll check that out though.
Alright, well I installed Nova launcher (even bought the Prime as I really like it!) and I emailed the support about this:
Sorry, this is a feature of the system software, not the launcher.

That's the response I got. So is there any way to get the double-press of home button reassigned [without root]? Quite a useful shortcut is useless to me if only S Voice can use it

Does that work in the apps, or just the home screen?
Basically, I want to assign double tap of the home button to multitasking, but I need that to be available within the apps, not just the home screen.
Tx!
Yeah I'm still looking for a way to do this (and without rooting, preferably). I have come to really like Nova launcher now and it has excellent gesture settings that are very useful, but the one physical button on the front of the phone isn't being utilized as well as I'd like.
