Rebranding phone - XPERIA X10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, I ****ed up.
So now I have to send my phone in for warranty repair.
I am currently using a debranded Nordic firmware, the flashtool version.
I do have a zipfile containing 2 files from another site, they should be an older Telenor firmware, they just read as *.file on my computer tho.
How do I flash those 2 files into my phone?
Or is there some other way to "rebrand" it?
Thank you!

[Q] Optus Firmware HELP!

Hi XDAnians,
I'm new to Android, being a previous WinMobo user I need some help.
I just purchased a White Xperia x10i through ebay.
The phone comes with chinese firmware from Hong Kong.
I would like to change it to Australia Optus latest firmware branded or un-branded i don't really care, as long as it has everything in english.
Currently running;
Firmware: 1.6
Baseband: 1.1.31
Kernel: 2.6.29-rel
Build: R2BA026
Can anyone direct me to the ROM / Firmware download suitable.
Any help would be really appreciated!!!
Thanks heaps.
Check out the decrypted roms thread.
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Just use the latest ROOT method and you will get the newest firmware
The simplest way to get onto the optus branded firmware is to signup @ www.omnius-server.com download omnius flash tool from here.
and download the optus .16 firmware from here. (Both links came from the omnius site in case they dont work when you click them).
Then use omnius to flash the phone.
Once completed, you can updated to the latest .26 firmware via SEUS or PC Companion.
You now have a fully branded optus X10. Should you want to root the phone, download the exploid package from the xda forums and root the phone from there.
Have done this a few times now for people that used the unbranded roms and wanted to go back to stock.
Works well and is nice and fast once you have all the files.

Well like u, being sick of the football icon, I was sick of the chinese stuff lol I didn't know what was going on! (Figure of speech) haha
Optus firmware was easier to setup. I did this mainly test the difference in firware and the android limitations.
Turns out, they're the same. LoL back to good old drawing board.

I myself had the same issue with the optus firmware. I like being on the branded firmware for the time when they will release the next update.
If you root using exploid, you can then install titanium backup and freeze the football app, moxier mail and anything else thats annoying you.
So now I still have the official optus branded firmware, but without the extra crap I'll never use.
Would one click exploit work? Cant we just uninstall moxier etc. . .
Sent from my X10i using XDA App
Because moxier is a system application you need root to be able to have read/write acces. Thus allowing removal of system apps.
I run the Optus branded software and have removed the football app etc. Just open Titanium Backup go to preferences and select chuck norris mode it should delete fine after that.
Yeah but your phones locked to optus. try sticking a telstra sim in it and see what happens.
mine's running a uk branded firmware because i know australia will be a few months behind europe for the 2.1 update.
on a side note, i was playing around with a desire today but i still can't understand what people get so excited about - lags, browser freezes, full of plastic. this thing really is a cheap piece of tawainese crap. give me the x10 any day (and i only have the mini).
Will the optus firmware update to 026? or will we be stuck on a later version.
I want to go back to optus firmware for the usage app etc and then root it (I believe that is possible now) but if i'm still stuck on an older version, I'll stay on the generic and update to 026.

You'll notice from the guide I posted on the first page that I stated to update the phone once back on branded firmware.
You will not be stuck on a certain revision and your phone will continue to recieve optus OTA's etc as they become available.
The reason I say to use the exploid method to root is it doesn't matter if you update at some stage you simply reinstall/rerun the same app and BOOM rooted phone again.
So to summarise....
Yes you can root your optus firmare
Yes you can upgrade on rooted optus firmware
No you will not be stuck on a certain firmware revision.

[Q] Help Needed Restoring Rogers X10A firmware

I need to send my phone back in for warranty (Camera stopped working) i've tried searching the previous threads but all the old methods like omnius dont work (can't download it) I've got the original root packages but that only gets me back to debranded x10i firmware. Kind of a new i've tried using the current flasher made by bin4ry and loading the firmware a_WWE_R1FA014_DEK.zip but i'm not even sure its rogers firmware and it hasnt yeilded me much success.
if anyone could help me out and give me a brief step by step
If all else fails use:

I'm not 100% sure but I don't think a Rogers branded fw for the x10a was ever uploaded to XDA.
Edit: davinciteam should work too -- man it's been a while since I used that... I used to have a w650 a w800 a w850 and a w900 at different points. Haha.
The newest flasher from bin4ry doesn't work with version 1.6 as far as I know, so you'd have to use the old flasher (from those root packages you have) to flash it.
Unless someone can link to the OEM Rogers fw, your best bet is to go for the debranded one you mentioned in your post, with the older flasher from the root packages.
dude, I replaced mine, sent it back with generic 026, Rogers didn't say a word, I wouldn't stress about it.

Make sure you have download the WWE_R1FA014 for X10a from post # 2 in the following link, and flash it to your x10a with flash tool.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=683793
Once that done, connect your x10a with SEUS and perform an update. SEUS should update your Rogers X10a to the latest Roger's firmware version.

Oh thats a good point too. I forgot about that. Evil evil SEUS.
I'm in a similar situation here, my USB connector broke and i need to send it back in. I'm on build 023 and i've also rooted my phone too, i know that voids the warranty for sure. What do you think?
which flash tool and firmware files needed to restore photo to original x10a rogers 1.6 from nordic 2.1 x10i ?
didn't like 2.1 so want to restore my rogers x10a, anyway ?

[Q] How exactly do I update from X10a 1.6(rogers, Canada) to 2.1?

Hi, I've seen so many threads now on this that I'm kind of confused. Can anyone tell me exactly what I need to do to update to 2.1? My phone is a X10a 1.6 on Rogers network in Canada.
Apparently rogers is releasing 2.1 tomorrow so unless u want to root just wait until Friday
Sent from my X10a using XDA App
Where did you get that info?
Waiting is the easiest thing. We're potentially so close to the update, you'd have to have a major issue to update with 'unsupported by Rogers' firmware at this point...IMO.
I suppose your right, if the update is in fact tomorrow then there really isn't a point in me doin anything but waiting. I just thought it would take rogers awhile to send out the update, Canada never usually gets anything else the world gets very quickly.

It's really hard to resist I know...up to you. There are tons of threads on it...no one that's done it seems to regret the decision but for me I have nothing wrong with my phone now...so i can wait
I don't believe that it will come out on Friday. I only hope. I have decided that I will do the root explorer method and change the code to Brazil generic unbranded x10a then do the update through pc companion if it does not come out byssunday. Very easy and simple method.
hi i need little clarification
so to flash 2.1 on your phone you need to root your phone first??

To flash to another country's verions of 2.1 yes, you'd need to root it first, debrand it second and then flash the update.
To install the update from Rogers you wouldn't need to do any of that.
Well you can root your phone with one click root or what ever the bleep its called and then install root explorer from the market or 4 shared and then open system folder then edit default.prop file and edit the country codes. There is another thread on that.
Then do update through pc companion (this is the same software that you will do update with once Rogers releases the update) all you are doing by editing the country code with root explorer is tricking pc companion into thinking you have a debranded Brazilian phone. After you do update it will not be rooted anymore cause the update wipes your phone clean.

WRONG. You don't need to be unlocked OR rooted OR debranded.
Once you put the phone into flash mode, you can flash any signed (official Sony) ROM, including the Global & Nordic generic ROMs (v2.1).
The bootloader hasn't been cracked so there are no custom ROMs (hence no 2.2) but official ROMs from around the world can still be used.
I flash my Rogers X10a a few hours after Nordic was released and a 2nd X10a once global came out. The only issue is that the Rogers APN information has to be entered in manually for 3G/3.5G/HSPA data.
Or you can do a flash but many ppl are scared to go that route as it requires a bit more effort.
My bad. I didn't key into flash part. Listen to the guy with two phones!

[Q] Where can I download O2 Branded Firmware ?

Hi,
I have recently flashed my Samsung Galaxy S2 with KE7 update which debranded my phone. Then I searched an O2 branded firmware from this website but after flashing my phone with this firmware, I am having two problems. Firstly, when I insert my sim it not only asks O2 Pay monthly customers but also asks for Tesco customer option which is quite strange. Secondly, I am not able to do any updates from KIES as it gives error message of THIS VERSION OF THE PHONE CANNOT BE UPDATED.
Can some one please help me to find out original O2 branded firmware? or how to solve this problem please?

Why is it strange you have unbranded firmware not belonging to O2 with a CSC that gives as required the O2 networks of which Tesco is a VN .
But as the man said stock O2 is available if you want to go that route .

Dude you seriously need to learn to use the quote function. It's kind of hard to figure out were the poster you are replying to post ends and your response begins.
@OP: You will have option for O2 PREPAY, O2 POST PAY and TESCO. This is normal since Tesco mobile piggy back on the O2 network, Just select O2 PostPay if you're on a contract.

Thanks for the quick response ... I was confused because previously I only had two options: O2 Pay Monthly customer, O2 Pay As you Go. I got worried because of this Tesco options as I was afraid that it may void my warranty.
Secondly, I am not able to update this version from KIES. Is it because of the current firmware version or is it because there is no update available? My phone's firmware details are as follows:
PDA: I9100XXKE7
CSC: I9100O2UKG2
Thanks again for your help.

There may just not be any firmware update out, 3UK was still on KE2 till not very long ago (not that i was on stock for more than 10min).
If you want to you can just flash a stock rom via odin, you dont need to change your CSC to a new one. (its just APN settings, and any silly bundles apps)

I have just downloaded KE2 firmware and thinking to flash KE7 version to KE2 (not sure if its a good idea) but there is a problem. The file I have downloaded from the above given link is a .exe file and I am not sure if this is the right file to use to flash my mobile?
Further, I don't know how to change CSC. Is it something we do manually or is it done automatically when we flash the firmware?
Thanks

No, bad idea, thats going backwards.
KE(X) > KF(X) > KG(X)
The exe is a self extracting archive if you had read the thread, you click it and it will extract to where you want it to.
Do some more reading about version numbers.
When flashing via odin CSC is just a part of the rom you might put into odin, as it says in the thread.

Yes you are right it is going backwards but my only motive behind this is to bring my mobile into a very simple way of updating via KIES. May be after coming to KE2 version, KIES might update it to any latest update for O2. Please advise.
Hi again,
Just wanted to share an update of my problem. I just flashed my mobile with a backward firmware of KE2 from KE7 and thought it will help to update my firmware with Kies but there is the same message displaying again, 'This version of the device cannot be updated'. :s I need help to resolve this problem as I want to send my mobile for warranty claim coz it restarts sometimes while using it and also its overheated when I use it while charging. I am worried that having a different firmware than the original one may create problem for warranty claim. ANY SOLUTION PLEASE??

Flash the O2 firmware and do a hard reset, after resetting flash the same firmware again.

Hi again,
I have some good news. I flashed my mobile with KE2 and had the same problem with KIES as it gave me same message, 'this device version cannot be updated' but when I tried update firmware from mobile setting options it detected a newer available version and so it installed KE7 version and after restart it gave me a message of additional firmware which I confirmed and now I have XWKF3 installed in my mobile. Which is a big relief now.
P.S Kies still shows the same message, 'This mobile version cannot be updated'.

Thanks a lot for this suggestion. I am bit not sure as my phone updated its firmware by using firmware update method in its settings. Now it shows its firmware as XWKF3 . Should I follow this method now which you suggested in above mentioned post to resolve this KIES update issue? and which firmware should I use to flash it ?

[Q] Where to find Stock rom (not branded) containing Croatian language ?

As the title says, if anyone knows where can i find stock rom (last official) containing croatian language (menu, keyboard, multi CSC for operators... etc).
It is probably packed with few other central or eastern european countries (czech, bulgaria.... etc).
I'm currently on the T-mobile branded device that i would like to debrand with last official stock (unbranded) firmware. I searched everywhere but i cant find it.
My current version is:
PDA: I9100BOKG2
PHONE: I9100BOKG1
CSC: I9100CROKF1
I managed to remove that T-mobile splash screen and sounds and replace it with stock one, but i would like to have stock rom without any influence of the operators.
Thanks in advance !!!
As i can read from http://samfirmware.com/samsunglettercode.htm
firmware should containt these letters ( XD - Croatia, Czech, Hungary, Slovakia)
or these (XF - Bulgaria, Croatia, Romania).
Also i found something in the "languages information" letter code, it seams that more versions cotains croatian (hr).
Anyone ??
Thx !
No one knows ???

I think i will try stock KI8 (2.3.5) rom with botloader replaced, because
jig doesnt work for reseting the flash counter on a new bootloader. Soon there will be a new jig but until then i will hold to old bootloader.
Thx.

Replace bootloader? How will you do that? I need to resset mine as well but i don't have the jig... I wanted to take the phone to the service center but i can not untill i manage to reset the counter... Can I borow yours?
I suggest the following, flash the original full rom that you can find here on xda under carrier branded section and then reset the counter with a jig (if you are near VG i can borrow you mine) and you can take it to the service. If you want to replace just the bootloader you can extract it from the full rom or download from stock firmware threed under frankestein firmware post.
