[Q] Fix screen burn in? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

About 1-2 weeks ago, I was using my Vibrant as an alarm clock using Digital Clock.
I put a mount on the side of my desk near my bed to use it as a clock and alarm, and it worked quite well. A while after though, when I'm on a white screen (using Facebook or something light colored) I can see a yellow burn in of the numbers from the clock, which I assume is from keeping it on too long.
So is there a way to fix this or am I stuck with this image burnt into the screen?

Anyone know?

They make certain videos that flash bright colors repeatedly that work for plasma and lcd tv's. However it will only work on milder cases but it's worth a shot. If it's severe then you might be looking at an insurance claim. Hope it helps.

Would you happen to know where I could find a video like that?

Try "color flashlight" from marketplace. It has various flashing patterns that might do the trick.

Sunglasses and Screen Visability (and messed up icons)

So I was just curious if anyone else can barely read the screen while driving with sunglasses on (navigation, music, etx). I seem to have to choose between the two even with brightness all the way up. I love the phone so is this just something I need to accept and move on or does anyone have any suggestions?
On another note for some reason some of my icons on my home screen have been reverting to a "stock" android market icon. The only way I've found to fix this is to remove and add them back. Does anyone know what's causing this or how to prevent it?

Are your lenses Polarized or are they just your typical sunglasses?
I have this problem as well, but I know it is because my lenses are Polarized. Polarized is designed to take the reflection and glare off of things you are looking at, so I would think this probably causes issues when trying to view the screen on the phone.
Polarized lenses have issues with it
Yeah, I sport a sweet pair of Maui Rims that I wouldn't give up for the world. Oh well

Possible camera defect/glitch

I'm getting a green Aurora over the camera in the viewfinder over light/white backgrounds and it's translating to some of my pictures. tested on a white piece of paper with flash enabled and still had green. Sample images attached.
Insight?
Should I return the phone?

You should absolutely take it back. That's terrible.

Thanks for the reply. I was almost hoping for someone to come tell me it's normal. I'm only on day two of my thirty and I've already downloaded so many apps
Anyone want to try a test of a white sheet of paper?
Just tested on paper towel in a different room with different lighting both with flash and without.
It would be really helpful for a sticky with known defects so we can completely check out the phones for defects in one place.
I'm glad I didn't buy the phone off of Amazon. Would have made the exchange process a lot more difficult than driving down to the store...

Its your flash... Mine does it too, think about it though, there isn't nothing wrong with it its just that the light bounces off the white surface giving you that effect. Will only happen on a white surface, I say don't worry about it as its normal. It's normal we don't have high tech flashes... We have to live with it Haha
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717
Only two of all these test pictures have flash. The one with my hand where you can see it's shiny (flash).
And the top paper towel pic without the phone shadow.
All other pictures other those two were taken without flash. Green effect visible without flash. Seems to be slightly less notable with flash actually.

Edit:
As to what you said about light bouncing off. Check out the first test image I uploaded. that's the corner of the room no flash green as hell unfortunately
If that was normal, that would be one terrible camera.

I remember the iPhone 4 had this problem. They concluded it was the lighting?

I tried different rooms. My galaxy vibrant could take pictures of paper without the green.
att will take this back right? I've had the phone for three days. Would the replacements they have in stock have the same issues if they're from the same batch?

Mine has that too (although it doesn't look quite as obvious). When I switched the camera to Auto-Contrast and Matrix Metering, the effect became less pronounced.
Try that and see if it makes any difference for you.

Looks normal to me. So this is a rare issue I'm guessing. Will try changing the options as suggested and report back.
Now that I have taken those few test pictures I'm starting to be convinced that my camera is defective. I'm using stock everything never messed with any camera settings. Pictures were taken with opening the camera app and immediately pressing capture along with trying to focus by tapping screen before taking picture. Green results both ways.
I'm just glad I haven't put my 35 dollar glas t screen protector on yet...

Okay just did another test with matrix metering and auto contrast enabled.
Still green. Attached image.
So I should definitely warranty it today?

I went through three Notes (display issues), and they all did this. Every Note in my AT&T store does this as well. Every iPhone I've ever used does the same thing (except it's red instead of green).
I've always assumed it was normal for these types of cameras, because I haven't used a single device in many years that DIDN'T have this type of problem. I never notice it taking pictures because...how often am I taking a picture of a white piece of paper?

I'm about to go exchange it. I'm thinking this is a defect on my specific phone.
Check this pic out taken inside the AT&T store

will update with new notes pictures
Wiped my phone and exchanged it. Right out of the box I tested the camera in front of the store rep. Same green issue. The green issue is also noticeable in the viewfinder for the camera. I didn't specify that before.
so the rep wouldn't let me take back my phone and made me keep this defective one. She rudely told me to go exchange it in a different store. I'm sorry I paid three hundred dollars and signed a two year contract expecting a functional non defective device. I'm guessing that stores batch all have the defect. But I tested both note display models in store and no green in either.
These are all the pictures I've taken with this new note with flash and without with default options as well as auto contrast and matrix metering.

Screen tint fluctuation issues?

I got my GS3 A few days ago and i noticed the screen look awfully warm, so i thought it was just samsung color calibration. But when i tilt the phone in any angle from a normal viewing angle the screen temperature goes warm to cold. Has anyone had a similar experience?
Same exact problem here man. I've posted a few threads about it but I figured I was alone since no one replied. My room step s3 is yellow as well. I'm on my 3rd and they have all been the same.
I'm just going to assume it's calibrated this way. Sure does look nice from an angle though lol
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
upgrading from the gs II, I picked up my gsIII last week and noticed the warmer color...especially on a white background. The warm white reminds me of LCD instead of OLED... i was thinking Samsung duped us and swapped LCD for OLED.
Since the color becomes cooler when you change the viewing angle, i'm thinking it might be a tint in the screen glass or digitizer to give that warmer color when viewing straight on. Personally, I prefer whiter whites but it seems most smart phone users, especially iphone users, are used to/prefer a warmer white screen so maybe Sammy is trying to appeal to the masses used to a LCD look
I hate it, especially coming from the GS2. Looking at it from an angle the screen looks perfect, WHY SAMSUNG WHYYYYYYYYYY:crying:

Well...coming from a Galaxy Note - which was WAY too 'cool' of a tint (to where it was almost green) - I am thrilled to have a warmer white with the S3!
But I have also spent the last many years as a video/TV "purest" and have my home theater stuff professionally calibrated. Warm (reddish) whites are much more accurate and are actually the NTSC standard (6500k).
I too noticed and hence this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1754062
Comparing with vibrant i even thought i had a defective screen. But when i put GS3 next to my laptop and desktop lcd screen, the whites look much better and thus i console my self

I just did the same thing and the whites definitely look better than my laptop screen. I guess I can live with that.
Coming from an OG Epic with voodoo sound and color will just be an adjustment I guess.

Screen discoloration

Hi,
My ~2-months-old DX is starting to show slight variations in screen brightness. This really only shows on uniform backgrounds, but there's two bright spots: Both are centered horizontally, one is just on the top half of the screen, the other on the bottom half. Does anybody else see this?
I haven't done anything out of the ordinary with it, other than a temporary addiction to Temple Run, and I'm not really a heavy user. I haven't been able to really make a decent picture out of it, but I shall try again.

Well first thing you can try is checking how it reacts when you change screen brightness... You should relock bootloader, install stock recovery and flash RUU and get it to the maintenance center... They might help you...

Screen brightness doesn't really matter, although it made my camera clip. However, it is still visible to the human eye. I managed to get a reasonable image by using a "Flashlight" app that let me choose the color of the "flashlight". I set it to about 75% gray, but with full screen backlight. It's even more visible when I invert the image - see the attached file.
I'm on stock firmware, stock recovery and relocked bootloader; I really don't see how this is firmware related. The one catch is that I got my phone over the internet, and the return policy is "Send in phone first, and then we'll see if we even think it is a valid claim - that's why I was hoping for a confirmation
It's not a software issue, its better to flash stock ROM and everything so they can't deactivate your warranty...

I can see the marks you have mentioned. this maybe a manufacturer defect where the the digitizer is pressing too much on the lcd overlay due to uneven adhesive while in manufacture. any uneven adhesive will show signs like this when the device is screwed tight and the pressure is not uniform as a results of what i said above.
second reason maybe the screen along with lcd and digitizer is defect and needs replacement.
How dip you know that?

Screen "burn-in" ?

Does anyone notice faded icons on the status bar to the left? Primarily the email and text message notifications (that are more frequently seen in my case). When I don't have a text msg or unread email I can still see it, its faded. Reminds me of the older plasma screen tv's where you get a "burn- in" as you'd say.
Does not seem promising for a phone I've had for 5 months now
Anyone else notice this? The symbol stays, it does not go away.

I had the EXACT same problem with the Galaxy Nexus phone and it ends up it was a bad LCD. Had to have it replaced.
Not here. Had my phone 4 months now.
Ya I have noticed it. I've had this phone for a few weeks now and seen it the other day. It left a shadow of the update icons from the play store. They went away after the screen was off for awhile.

I also have this. Have had my phone since mid-December.
At least it isn't me... too bad it is me and others though.
I first noticed a problem when I could see my status bar in TWRP...
Like said above, they go away, I just hope it doesn't get worse (would this be covered by LG? Because I have no insurance or anything else).
Its not screen burn in. Mine does it every once in a while. Its a software glitch. It goes away.
Sent from my LG-E970 using xda app-developers app
This sounds similar to what happens on the original Kindle Fire with its IPS screen (don't know if current models do it too). You could sometimes see ghost images in dark areas of the screen. It was not really burn-in, though it did tend to appear when you had a bright static image for a while, because it would go away. One thing of note was that the phenomenon varied a lot between units. I could occasionally see it lightly on mine, not enough to be significant, but for some people it was a bigger deal (Amazon replaced them under warranty).

I find it a little difficult to believe that it is software when I've seen it in TWRP too (saw my status bar in TWRP).

Same here guys I get the same thing it can't be a defect if we all have it and I unlocked my bootloader after this happened so its not that I think its over use of the screen or a software glitch also when I look at a greyish area of the screen I see a line in the left side weird I also have a battery skippin isue as well
SOLVED!
I found a fix for the black line! I had the same thing and last night for half an hour I used the burn in tool off the market and forgot I had in usb debugging screen never time out so whenever I got a text the screen would be on for hours but anyways after useing the tool I let it sit over night for about 9 hours and boom! Its back to normal as for the status bar that just a software bug because there was nothing about it in the older ota update so it must be a bug right?
I don't get anything like what you guys are describing, but I do get a white ish fog surrounding my screen. It kind of comes and goes, but sometimes it gets really hard to see darker things in the screen.

I come from an amoled so I notice certain things involving color reproduction. The only experience I have ever had with an LCD other then this phone was an iPhone 4. After a while I noticed colors started looking cooler and a fog around the edges of my LCD. The other thing is sometimes the black status bar has white steaks (as if the light was bleeding thru.) I came to the conclusion that lcd were crappy compared to amoled but I ignored the fog till I read your comment I was thinking maybe I am picky with the color but no. There is an issue.
