Since I'm an admin at PPCGeeks, we too have been getting take down notices from Microsoft, but so far its been about threads/posts in the forums and some attachments (XIPs, etc).
We just deleted the threads/posts/attachments. If there were rapidshare links in there, then I'm sure those links are still valid (if you know them), its up to Microsoft to contact Rapidshare to take those down.
ohh... crap!
That's unfortunate. Makes me want to burn every Microsoft product I've ever unwittingly purchased.

Oh wow A Large company with big scary lawyers is trying to protect their product. This has never happened before in the history of the Internet.
Oh Wait...
Just chill out, if you have been on the internet enough you know that these things ebb and flow.

If you do, you already payed a Windows Mobile licence.

I also recieved a mail from 'the Internet Investigator' LOL.
I requested an explanation in my mother-tongue, and an official written complaint through local authorities. Let's see how that goes.
If he can't provide, the file stays and he can s*ck my European (thank God for the European Law) b*lls
I HIGHLY suspect that the 6.5 stuff is what has gotten microsoft's attention and the rest is a 'while we are at it' bonus. Can't fault Microsoft for wanting to protect an upcoming release especially since the 6.5 stuff right now isn't really read for prime time and microsoft could make a pretty valid arguement that it is damage to the reputation of WM 6.5, and potentially causing a loss in future sales for 6.5. (Can't believe I just defended the big bad MS)
am I the only one who sort of sees this as Microsoft sort of shooting itself in the foot by doing this?

of course i understand MS' perspective on this, protecting new versions, etc... but the issue with 6.5 is that there is nothing that prevents it from running on existing devices, however they have stated that it will not be released for anything out right now. WTF? too bad another mirror went down, good luck getting them all
btw, james young doesnt have a MS account at all, just looked it up (usually they do)

Did Microsoft say that...or did the Operators say that? I've heard Operators say they won't be upgrading. Microsoft argument for countering the iPhone is along the lines of they don't won the hardware and can't control implementation.....
Let's calm down. We are community od XDA-DEVELOPERS - this board is like a legend. All the custom roms cannot be removed, 90% of users are here just becouse of new ROM's! I can understand MS but let's face the true, most of bugs findings, walkarounds and fixes for all MS products are developed by "illegal" product owners.
I know dozens of places where people makes mods, hacks, etc for every MS software but they have never been forced to remove it from their servers becouse of MS demands. Even Microsoft knows that, the best experts are madcaps from places like this, and they are MUCH more usefull then 1,000,000 "legal" idiots or noobs on MS discussion groups/boards.
I like M$, but sometimes they should seek for problems in the RIGHT places.
Cheers.
Rather than shutting down mirrors, MS should be enlisting the help of chefs, et. al. in releasing a version of 6.5 that the masses will actually appreciate. The problem is that MS takes way too much time to release a product that is usually obsolete by the time they get around to putting it out, and buggy. I can't begin to fathom counting the number of times I have expressed my loathing for MS programmers, be it with PC or PPC software / OS / etc.
They should be thanking XDA for trying to make their OSs perform better and enlisting the help of the very people that their "Internet Investigators" are trying to thwart. But maybe that's just my opinion.

Verge has become an Android-wh*@# recently. They are hungry for the clicks and hence their anti-Lumia articles. Then they followed it up with anti-Windows Phone and this. I would say, if you own anything but Windows Phone, only then you should read Verge. Their sources always want to be unnamed and always want to be anonymous!
Atleast that dude was filmed and we know him! - I trust what I see. Even if he joked he had balls unlike verge's anonymous people they make up!

Well that article points out how the guy in the video has retracted what he said in the video. Here's the original link:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/nunos/archive/2012/04/19/my-comments-on-windows-phone.aspx
Imagine all the people that went and got the Lumia and all the money wasted on advertisement only to say.. Nope that phone we threw at you telling you its the best won't see Apollo... Here buy this one instead. Along with the Titan One/Two. Businesses have made stupid mistakes and Microsoft might do another dumb move and spit on your faces.
Only take what comes officially from Microsoft not some websites with no affiliation or some lonely employee.
I am pretty sure none of us will and should get an "Apollo". We clearly don't have specs for that.
However, what we will get is skinned Apollo. We are sure to get all the features of the OS e.g.
1) better multitasking
2) better UI consistancy (if applied)
3) better integration of features (plus additional ones)
4) better or/and faster IE
5) better bluetooth support
These stuff don't need all that extra hardware specs, so we could safely have them.
The rumours of Lumia 610, 800 being tested with Apollo could well be true considering the above could be applied with no extra hardware that comes with Apollo.
Let us keep in mind that Android users are the most ignored for official upgrades (unless you come to XDA).
The article reads like they HOPE MS leaves current hardware behind for Apollo.
Looking at the Tango update and the fact you will be able to send MMS video& ting , As long as we get a few other treats thrown in then I don't think I will be that bothered if I get an Apollo related update or not, TBH I was extremely happy with my HD2 but upgrades and progress lead me over to the Darkside of WP7 and although I suffered from boredom before nodo and see it through to Mango I don't think It will ever be what everyone wants, There will always be a better handset on the horizon and if it turns out MS don't fully deliver then simply change platform.
I too am not bothered about the apollo update if it does not reach the Titan. I too am more than happy with the OS as it stands.
Since Skype updated to version 4 on Android, the DNA is no longer being supported and you cannot download the new version. Here is what the Skype representative had to say:

Yeah, I know it's not supported. The question is why? It's a current phone with very decent specs even now that it is around 7 months old. Are you really gonna tell me that a phone such as the DNA is not supported? What's wrong? It was supported just fine before this ****ty update you decided to put out. But seriously, even if you decide not to officially support it, why not allow the option for us to still download it? I'm sure the DNA can handle it..
Very disappointed in Microsoft.. I await your reply.

Hello XXXX,
We understand that you'd like to know why your device is not supported by Skype.
To clarify, the new 4.0 version of Skype is compatible with Android phones only. As we can see, the HTC Android DNA has the specifications of a "phablet". This means that it is a phone but has the size of a small "tablet" device.
Although most Android phones are supported by the new version of the Skype application, some are left incompatible due to the size, resolution and specification designs of the application. For this, we apologize for we are unable to provide a specific reason why it is not yet supported but we assure you that we are working on developing a version that would work with your device in the future.

If you want ro be respected, you have to give it as well. That person could have easily told you to piss off for being a whiny kid. Obviously that rep didn't know why it wasn't supported, you made yourself look like a big baby with your language and use of caps lock. You could have easily asked to be transferred to someone who may know, such as his/her manager or supervisor. Not everyone is as tech savvy as the people on this forum, cut them a damn break.

Rejoice, my friends. Skype has been updated and the DNA is once more supported. All I can say is that it took them long enough! It shoulda been supported from the beginning.
So I got a new company phone - since my boss wanted to save some money and Microsoft seems to give away the Lumias to companies for almost nothing it became a Lumia 925... hardware seems okay, but I just can't get friends with Windows Phone (too few customization options, very poor choice of apps). Is there any way to install an Android system on these phones? Anything from Android 4.0 on would be fine, but I could even arrange with good old 2.3 if I have to.
I think I remember to have read about a project to develop on this some years ago, but I can't find any information about it anymore. Did they get sued by MS/Nokia?
if you want android, buy android... is impossible to change OS (now or in future...)
try learn more about WP.. is not that bad how you describe... is enough quality apps and if something missing, try find alternative (similar) app in store....
also with upcoming 8.1 upgrade you can do some customization and new options....

Technically it should be possible, that Lumia is using same processor/hardware as several Android phones. If some sideparts like camera wouldn't work I could deal with that.
I'm also pretty sure I read about a project wanting to bring Android on the Lumias in the past, I just can't find anything about that anymore
try learn more about WP.. is not that bad how you describe... is enough quality apps and if something missing, try find alternative (similar) app in store....

I wouldn't trust an "official" app that comes from some guy in China... there seems to be a lot of fake software in the Windows Store, actually I'm afraid that I install some scam that just grabs my personal data/account information. And the Microsoft apps for Facebook, YouTube, etc are more like a bad joke.
also with upcoming 8.1 upgrade you can do some customization and new options....

I'm anxiously waiting for the update, but I fear it might take some time, since my phone got customized/branded from Deutsche Telekom/T-Mobile and they are not very well known for releasing fast updates... :<
Besides that, by "customize" I don't really mean changing background picture of the tiles... more like add individual widgets on a lock screen, change the launcher layout, ... I will see what that update brings if it finally rolls out, but my expectations are rather low.
I suggest you look here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=52177866#post52177866
Android on Lumia is new (rumored) Android phone, not flashing android OS on windows phone. you newer get option to flash android on any Lumia because locked bootloader, forget this and ignore message from anaheiim...
if you want upgrade today to WP8.1 you can use Preview for Developer program...
go to http://appstudio.windows.com/
login with your Live account
register to AppStudio
install certificate from http://appstudio.windows.com/Job/GetAet (open this link in IE on phone)
install this app from store http://windowsphone.com/s?appId=178ac8a1-6519-4a0b-960c-038393741e96 and activate Preview for Developers...
and now you can update to WP8.1 or any other future update without wait...
also what app from China you talking??????? also Microsoft check and test every app on Store before publish and wont allow any security risk app... WP store is secure and malware free... dont worry about chinese soft.. LOL
