Hello
To all who are lucky and already have a HTC 7 (HD, Mozart's Trophy) and are using the GPS which maps are you using?
Bing maps?
What application ?
Thanks.
Hi,
As I'm using a T-Mobile contract, I'm using the free Navigon that comes with the contract. It's a complete navigation program which also provides offline maps

It's an Iphone theme for WAD (Wisbar Active Desktop). You can get it here. I created the tomtom one and a few others on my second page by myself to emulate the ones Torx already came up with.
How much of a performance hit do you take? I currently have a damn near stock rom (vzw 6.1) and I'm happy with how quick it is. (on average I have 24-26 MB FREE with everything closed)

Not sure if it hits it that bad. I have less than 20 most of the time with everything that I know of closed. Not sure yet what's causing it. But oh well... not something I'm really worried about.
yeah... I'm really happy with my phone's performance this second. Seems to be a good bit quicker than the stock rom. Scared to bog it down too much.

funny how they say battery life is improved?
Yeah, they were much kinder to the 3d than some of the others. They also said the Camera is pretty good.
The battery is the biggest factor for me, but at least I will have 30 days to return it.
you have to realize
when evo 4g first came out you were lucky to get 7 hours of battery life
I'm curious about the call quality concerns. Does the Evo3d use a different microphone and radio than the Evo does?

I'm curious about this too... I thought I read that the 3D had dual mics. Call quality is one of the last things I expect to go backwards and if it does indeed have two mics I would expect better with some kind of noise cancellation.
Maybe call quality can be addressed with software if it really is a problem.
Bah, why would we care about decent call quality in a phone?

I have Bluetooth in my car for phone calls. I hardly ever use my EVO as an actual phone. Email and texts get used more than the phone.

I agree, especially to those people who say that it is suppose to be a phone first. The phone part is now like the extra feature. People aren't buying these devices because they want to talk on the phone all day. Would you rather a great phone but crappy everything else.
If you are using it for business calls, then I agree that you might want a good phone, for everything else there is text messaging! Text messaging is the new phone call.
i hate talking on the phone... lol

I just read the article and was like "where?", then I saw that they put that in the specs. I like how they contradicted Engadget on Battery Life and build quality. Endadget said both were poor while CNET thought both were improved.

I think the CNET review said that it had 1gb available to install apps. So out of the 4gb 3 of them are used by android, sense, and apps. I somehow don't see them squeezing the Green Hornet 3D into that space it's probably on the micro sd, but maybe it's on the built in storage as well.
CNET Article said:
It has 4GB of internal memory but only 1GB of that is available to the user, and you can't uninstall the preloaded apps. You can move them, as well as any downloaded apps, to the preinstalled 8GB microSD card, but if you plan on loading up your phone with apps, music, and video, you might want to upgrade to a higher-capacity card. The phone's expansion slot can support up to 32GB.

The 3D Green Hornet movie is not actually on the phone. You have to go through HTC's movie streaming service and you will have access to view that particular movie. And I guess the rest will cost a certain amount to download but Green Hornet will be free.

And that explains why CNET was not able to watch the movie to test it out.
I used the universal mount that you can get for about $10. Installed a radio that has a stereo mini input. Used 1/8" flat bar for the bracket and a butane torch to bend it, JB Weld to hold the pieces together and bolted the finished product to a support piece behind the dash. It took some work and a lot of trial and error. My bluetooth GPS arrives today.

Got the BT-359 Bluetooth GPS today. It is within 10m from inside a house. I am gonna really love this set up.

Any idea if I can use two blue tooth devices with my gtablet at once. Would like to get that blue tooth gps and use it concurrently with an obd II transmitter (and torque application).
Thanks in advance!
Blue Tooth
Here is what I have running.
I am using the bluetooth GPS unit and I am also using the bluetooth OBD II scanner with the Torque app. Both devices work at the same time all while I play music.
To use the Navigation function of GoogleMaps, you must have a data connection. The way I make this happen is using my HTC EVO Shift for the data connection through wireless tether for root users.
I am still waiting for the tomtom app that will load the maps to your device and will navigate without needing a data connection. If you do not care about a data connection for GoogleMaps, your position will still be visible as a blue dot and it will move.
Don't forget to download BlueGPS. This app is what is used to allow the tablet to talk to the GPS unit. And it must be running before the Torque app and GoogleMaps are running.

You might want to check out this one:

Great off-line GPS solution. This link is for the stripped down version, but they also have a premium version ($25.00) with a lot more features.

I have the premium version (when they first released the new version, it was available for $10.00).
It has its quirks, but I generally like it.
I also have/used Copilot 8 before it. The new interface is a bit nicer.
There are only a few off-line navigation choices. None of them have great reviews.

EDIT: Yeah, what planoman said
Yup lock within 5 seconds
From the GPS Chip maker Broadcom:
The Samsung GALAXY Note is one of the first smart phones delivering multiple constellation support to the handset market. By leveraging the United States NAVSTAR Global Positioning System (GPS), Russia's Globalnaya Navigazionnaya Sputnikovaya Sistema (GLONASS), Japan's Quasi-Zenith Satellite System (QZSS) and the Satellite Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS), users have access to 59 satellites currently in orbit — nearly twice the coverage of GPS alone.
I am darn near ecstatic that GPS worked right out of the box! I nearly got lost when I used GPS when I got my infuse. Good job Sammy!

Wow this is great to hear. My first Android Samsung was a Vibrant and we all know how good that GPS was.
+1 whatever the reason, the GPS is ridiculously fast on this phone...
I don't know what it is about the Note, but they actually beat every single other phone (android, iphone, and others) in terms of GPS performance.
And I'm talking like 12 sat locks instantly with 3m accurcary. It's ridiculous.

They probably got tired from all the cries about some of their other products being sub-par and said "You know what... you want your freakin GPS to work?! WE'LL MAKE YOUR FREAKIN GPS WORK. EAT IT... now what? NOW CRY ABOUT YOUR GPS!"
(because the company as a whole thought that way...)
Anyway...
Sitting at my desk where I am now I used to get maybe 1 or 2 sats on my Inspire... 5 or 6 on my a500.. Note I get 20 sats... and I'm not even outside. It's exceptional to say the least. Very pleased.

I have recently started using my car dock, initially I was running stock gb 2.3.4 and i liked the layout of the app (i.e music was opened in a full screen mode) but now I have changed back to cm and can't find a cardock app that has this function (everything I have seen just opens the music app on the phone). Is there anyways to replicate the 2.3.4 stock version of the car dock app?
any help would be greatly appreciated
If you're on CM, you can use Car Home from Google. It's pretty much identical.

Yuck! That thing is ugly.
How can you not take advantage of the awesomely accurate speedometer feature in Car Home Ultra?
I have been using it for a couple of months and really like it. I use Mort Player for MP3s and I can flip back to the full-screen for it in one tap to do whatever. Also, it has play/pause, back and forward buttons you can put on a screen for control.
Try it out it is free (but I got the license because we should support good devs).

Actually, I was quite surprised at how inaccurate my car's speedometer is (and that of every one I have driven since I got my phone.) The GPS-based speed is much more accurate (ask a scientist) and I found that I had been cheating myself unnecessarily.
When I thought I was doing 80 I was actually only doing 76. So I have learned to ignore the car and trust the phone ... and drive FASTER!!!
