Hello everyone, so by now we all have installed a vast number of cooked ROMs. Now the problem that I am having like so many other people, are these pre-installed virtual keyboards, once the chefs install them, there is no uninstalling them, updating them, nothing. Many cookers have pre-installed swype, however, swype 2.x has many slowdown issues relating to it and I prefer to install an earlier version of it, if I am going to use it, however that is just not possible, as when I do try to upgrade or downgrade to a different version, then my phone will freeze. I really don't think that cookers should install any virtual keyboards as they are very ease to install after the fact.
Next thing, FFBoy's roms have a different sd card driver in them. They really are totally free of any issues relating to the sd card. What other roms have this different sd card driver in them?
Finally, I am thinking of changing my radio in my device, are there any other radios to be afraid of.... or is it just Docomo's rom that permanently locks your radio and sim locks your device?
Thanks in advance,
-Kili.
Doesn't anyone love me?
Nobody love me!!..... sooooo sad.... the questions above I would have really appreciated some feedback on. Especially when I have pink eye!! I hate pink-eye (braaiinnnss)!
I messaged FFBoy, cuz man, it sure would be nice to understand a little bit more about his ROMs and the reason why his ROMs operate the SD Card better. Braiinnss... you know... maybe the reason why people don't respond to my messages it because they believe that they will get pink eye too? I am just here to assure you that you won't get pink eye... I promise! But seriously ... I have pink-eye... damn itchy red eye-poop-eyes. Anyhoo..

Hi Kili, i use ffboys roms, and i can install almost any virtual keyboard. he uses different drivers for his. unfortunately, he appears to have left the forum, he doesnt update his roms anymore in Miros rom7, try installing your CE-Star onthat and see how it goes. Miro used a different HTC EzInput in that, perhaps it may make a change
I have a friend... Proof!!!

Thank you very much Olyloh6696, you’re the best, and you answered some of my questions too! One of my major issues is that I cannot use Garmin Mobile XT with other roms other than Windows Mobile 6.5.2 or earlier. With 6.5.3 or above, it has the bigger start menu and things on the screen are not aligned properly. It is really quite sad that I am such a perfectionist, I really don't like that 1/2 millimeter of blank space at the top of the screen. I think that I am also going to use FFBoy's ROM as well, although I will need to re-install everything and Swype may not work as well as I like but that is the price ya pay for not cooking things yerself. FFBoy's ROMs and Kevin P. White's ROMs are special I tell ya. I really love and appreciate all of MIRO's, but if I cannot add Japanese support to a ROM, than I can't even begin to look at it. I thought with all of my cool h4xx0Rn3zz that I could add a virtual keyboard if I really tried to MIRO's but, I couldn't, then I tried to bribe people to help me to fix it, that didn't work either, I even tried to convince MIRO himself to help me out, but ehheheheeh he is a busy guy and AND, I don't want to piss him off, he has done so much great work for this community and has NEVER asked for a donation in any way. I tell ya, I really appreciate MIRO and everything he has done for the TG01 community. His work is almost unprecedented, same with Cedesmith, Ffboy, my favorite Kevin P. White, and all the others who I have not mentioned... oh yeah, November dood..
Best regardz,
-Kili.
PS: I wish Kevin P. White would make just one more 6.5 ROM and add the SD card driver that FFBoy uses in his ROMs. That would be perfect, absolutely perfect.

Your welcome thanks for your help too, regarding my new batteries! yes i agree with you too about WM 6.5.3. personally i don't use 6.5.3. i find it very slow, unstable and battery life is not as well optimized. I strongly recommend Ffboys roms or kevinpwhite too. I like Miros roms s
too. If you are going to choose between a ROM, i recommend the ROM in my sig WM6.5(if you like sense) it is very fast has very good battery optimization, good amount of free RAM and ROM to suit your needs. It is about 95% bug free (only a few htc stuff don't work.)
(if you aregoing to try this ROM, use build 21808. the newer version has too many bugs and sms doesnt work!)
altternatively, if you want to use a clean ROM, i recommend FFBOYS WM6.5 Clean build.
FFBOY also has a good wm6.1 ROM built with all the latest drivers.
i think if you try ffboys ROM, your gps should work fine, and your SD Card
i hope everything works outfor you

Hi Kili!
I am presuming, you were not able to resolve the issue with CE Keyboard! I tried to google CE keyboard cab, but can't find it! So unable to install this keyboard on my rom to try it out. Let me know if you find it.
Regarding SD card drivers - I have never faced any issues with any roms and my SD card! What sort of driver issues exactly are they? (noob, yes that's me!) May be I might have faced these issues, but not realized them? :s
In terms of radios - I have found 1600,1700 to be good ones and 1700 to be the best for the UK, obviously for you it might change depending upon what sort of area you might wander into!
Info about CE-Star and FFBoy

Oh, sorry, eheheh, it is not CE keyboard cab, it is CE-Star Japanese IME, CE-Star's Trail can be installed for 15 days, so whoever wants to help me out can do so by downloading the program either from CE-Star's website located here http://www.ce-star.com/products/CE-Star.php, or you can directly download the newest version of CE-Star from MegaUpload http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9FTAZUE1.
The problem that I have with the SD Card is this. When I install programs and applications to the SD Card, then sometimes those items show up as blank icons in my start menu. If you click on one of those blank icons, then your phone will hang for a few minutes and then give you an error message after. Using FFBoy's ROMs I never experience this issue, because he uses a different SD Card driver from a nand backup of an engineering tg01. Too bad he has disappeared... where did he go? I hope he is ok!

Ah, that problem - I have with all SENSE roms for few apps that I install via market place! I din't figure it was something to do with drivers as all these apps I install are on device memory! Never faced issue specific with icons in start menu in miROMs. However, to be honest, I always tend to replace my start menu so never see this ugly start menu for issues like that !
OK, now I know where I was doing something wrong for CE THING! I am on the case, Kili, gimme few days/hours (if you are lucky!)
ps: I am going to count all your posts and tell you how many of them you have definitely 'edited' hahahaha! There is hardly a single post that is 'non-edited'. I think you fall in the category of 'perfectionist' may be?
If you want to uninstall any cab as keyboard or any other and you can't do it from program manager. So you can do this.
1.Restart installation and before get to calibration screen plug your usb cable and synchronized your phone with mobile device center.
2. Then delete all cabs you don't want.
3. Continue with installation.
4. That's it all.
p.p I think there was a post about how to do that just look little bit around the forum. There are more posts just I am lazy to find it now :0P
You can install and uninstall everything you want.

Why should anyone convince you? If you don't like it, don't need it or don't want it..... leave it.
But if others like to fool around with there Prophet, don't argue either. If anything in live should have a practical reason the world would become a gray dull place to be, don't you think?
(Now is gray a color that matches perfectly with the HTCTouch theme by the way.... )
Who cares if it is usefull to flash anyway... It just fullfils some basic need we aparently seem to have in us.
I have windows mobile 6 running on my Prophet (Smart1 V3) and for me it is a lot faster than wm5. Not more stable, but stable enough. But a hell of a lot faster...
WM6.... HUMM Well it´s a lot faster that (default speed not overclocking.) WM5 .. but my main problem is that it mixes my contacts with mails and sim contacts .. i hate that ... In terms of stability i think it´s the same.. and if anyone can insert the portuguese keyboard layout .. that whould be wonderfull.. that whould make this perfect

No need to explain. Windows 98 and 2000 were also so stable and clean. But we are at Vista now. If you choose to stay where you are, you learn nothing, you progress nothing, and you are nothing.
The speed, the inherent keyboard and its facilities, the sms versalities in file management, the Cube, the HTC Home additional photo contact pics, there are lots of little nitty gritty embedded with minor improvements...
All of these shows we are on the move, and not at the stone age.
Yes, there are instabilities, and with third party softwares you might crash and burn. But we can't wear helmets all the time when we are on the street... We need to live boldly and meet the challenges. If you care to venture into this forum, you are already the one who feels itchy to move, otherwise, you are still using the good old grand father's phone at home with fixed networks.

Dear cookers and chefs, I would like to order a simple thing, if possible, so that dinner would be perfect . Can you guys re-introduce the WPA2 authentication protocol into the wifi network config?? A lot of people over here miss that. It's a default and oficial from Wm6 and latests Wm5 akus.
P.S. - Can anyone explain me why it was removed from the latest sets of cooked roms??
You must really like to read you name here
If it's so simple, why don´t you do it?
And how many times do you want to post the same thing?
I don´t want to copy varanusvincent, but do you really think that now someone will cook that? To you? Please, grow up and respect the people that really work.

@onesolo:
It seems that the WPA2 defect is a problem of the latest WM6 release. As this ROM are build on that one. Perhaps you better adress your request to Microsoft?
Anyway, as said, it looks like no one can help and the solution is simple, so: contribute!
Every one is saying that I'm being rude, that I don't contribute and help, but till now almost everyone couldn't explain to me why WPA2 is out.
If in previous cooked roms that I tried till now, from 4.0.0.3a to the Mysterious 1.0 (all from PDAViet), I never had any problem with WPA2, it's normal that if that thing is suddenly not there to ask what happen to it.

That's bc of the drivers we use in most recent ROMs come from WM5 (Offical ROM for Prophet), and the older ROMs use drivers from Wizard WM6.
But i think i can fix it, maybe it'll be avaiable in my next version.

Thkx for the feedback and the reason why WPA2 was not included. There's always a reason...
I'm here to test it if you release a rom with it!! Keep on going Cloudyfa!!!
By the way, if my Mysterious 1.0 device was not running slow and with a battery drain (not in the beginning) I wouldn't be dragging the forum to this conversation, because I wouldn't need to change to a new rom.

Android port any chance any new info
might want to sticky an android topic, new fresh details as of 28th jan 2010
I´m a fully ignorant in programming but I have an idea on my mind, if the Nexus One have the same Snapdragon platform that Toshiba TG01, could be possible a port of Android 2.1 to the Toshiba TG01 and HTC HD2 also with Snapdragon?
I don´t know if it´s possible or not, but to me would be a dream have the power of Toshiba with Android ... and if it would have Sense UI would be perfect xDD
I saw someone said Android on TG01, don't know if this is true or not.

Oh, can't believe it
Yeah i think the dood who posted that over at gsmarena was just lying.
Out of my own interest I've tried a few builds of Android on the TG01 but havn't got anything to boot up fully yet - i havn't played with startup.txt files or anything yet - i might have another dabble at the weekend if i get abit of time.
I'm not a dev and have minimal knowledge of Linux so theres not too much i can do, but if we could at least get a build to boot and show the Home screen i think would be a great start to springboard development.
There's a lot of builds of Android for HTC devices flying around, it couldnt hurt to try them and see what happens - You cannot harm your device in any way doing this as it isn't flashed to ROM just copy the relevent files to the root of your SD card and then run HARET.EXE application.
I've noticed the boot text is really tiny so it's difficult to read any error messages and such.
If anyone has a go at testing any builds it might be worth posting here with the build and results of any testing.
Also this may well be just a complete waste of time - who knows!
Cheers
Paul

If I recall well some discussions in Android for Diamond threads, if you try to tweak the settings in Haret and give it bad values you can hurt your device or the memory card... So be carefull...
To people not confident in what they are doing : don't do it ! You have been warned

Thanks Howell, im sure people here would be more than aware of any possible risks as always with this sort of stuff but from my understanding this should be safe - the HARET application is simply a bootloader for the Linux kernel - it absolutely cannot write to your phone's system files - it can however write files to your SD but cannot damage it in any way - the generated files can simply be deleted.
There's actually no settings to tweak in HARET either - it simply looks for a startup.txt file, if theres none present you have the option to browse for one - theres nothing else to tweak. The startup.txt file contains the settings that Haret reads - if this isn't correct it simply crashes the device which then requires a soft reset if in fact it doesn't reboot itself.
If someone who actually knows from experience and not 'recalling from another thread' wants to verify any Harm that can be caused with HARET please let us know!
Thanks
Paul
They have port android on HD1. Like it's in WVGA, maybe some crazy guys want to try
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=621498&highlight=android+HD
Supports Blackstone, Diamond, Diamond 500, Fuze, Raphael, Raphael 800, Rhodium, Tilt 2 & Topaz
if programmers started making a port i would consider getting a tg01 i love the white color, currently i have a htc fuze and am always running android onit.

Just Trying
Just Trying The Hatet way on my phone also trying the htc .cab way
dam they both just fail and i tried all startup.txt files for all phones!!!
It ain't that easy. You need the configure the starup.txt you need to find the Thosiba tg01 id etc etc...
You need a kernell who works with the toshiba hardware...
You need a lot, but it is posible.
i am currently trawling the intraweb looking for a zimage kernal to run my tg01 and trying to do the startup file myself.
slow going...
If u get android working on tg01 please upload the file and give us a link please
ditto, you'd be a legend if you could get it going!!
i think android will be so cool on this device come on android geeks where are you we need your skills show us what you can do do us proud and bring android to tg01 i dare you if you can hell i will even donate let the world know we want android on toshiba tg01 let the android games begin.......... woops sorry if i got abit carried away.

Hey XDA users !
I'm planning on buying a new phone. HTC HD2..
I really like the huge screen and the interface so yeah...
Just a few questions ;
- I'm from Israel and I'm gonna buy the Sim Free T-Mobile version... Will I be able to install all of the regular t-mobile ROM updates ?
- Does using themes and stuff can cause problems EVEN if you do it right? What is the risk ?
Thanks in advance !
Regular rom updates, yes..
Theming.. Hmm then you would be better of with custom roms,
in order to install those, you should install HSPL, that is actually a little dangerous, but only if you don't follow the rules. everything is explained very well around here. I did it and once you done that, you can install custom roms made by developers here, or you could even go give android a try yes, with SD card you can run android.
The only real risk is flashing your phone when battery is low, always make sure you flash when around 100% full, so if you do something wrong, you can easily correct your mistake without problems. (because when you **** up HTC won't fix your device) so always read what the threads say. I flashed over 100 roms, never had any problem! so I would say, you get used to it, not really a high risk but you must follow instructions, first time read about 3 hours, after that, it goes fast
oh, welcome btw
Hehe thanks for replying
Pretty sure I got it now..
btw.. just asking.. can I disable the 3G network ?
I really don't wanna spend too much money on internet..
So I prefer using WiFi only for now..
Thanks once again !
EDIT; Oh yeah... another question... what' 'Manila'?
Yes, you can disable 3G or data altogether. I use mine as Wifi only with no problems.
Manila is another name for HTC sense or touchflo3d.
You can currently run windows mobile or android on the HD2. Explore the forum to find out more.
Indeed, I needed that too. Nodata.cab for winmo and in android you can just switch it off 3g and other data.
Manila is the userinterface htc has put over windows mobile and is way better then winmo on its own, that is what much devs modify and tweak to get better roms, customised for everyones needs
Oh wow.
So many names for just an interface lol !
Thanks
So I have had my HD2 a few months now and I've been happy with the stock look and feel.
Now I would like to start trying a few of the xda add ons and roms.....
However I do not wish to blindly jump...I figured I would ask the pros here.
So I would like to move up to the newer windows 6.5.x ( not sure what version were at), with the task bar at the bottom.
So I am on the Rogers Network ( Ontario Canada), with an Unlocked HD2.
I bought it on line but was unaware at the time I got wrong unit for here, as I only have edge...no 3g ( Unit from Hong Kong via Vancouver and ACEGSM).
No worries though, as I do not need 3G as I do so little on line on phone...Weather, a little FB, Yahoo mail, MSN Mail....so Edge works awesome for me.
So if I am to flash say mainly a stock look and feel to start, where should I start?
As said, phone came from Hong Kong
OS Version 5.2.21869
Manila Ver. 2.5.19211619.0
ROM Ver 1.66.707.1 WWE
Radio Ver. 2.07.51.22_2
What would my best picks be for my unit?
Is there an Oficial HTC Flash that brings me to the updated windows 6.5.x?
Is there someone who could advise me on what way is dumb guy proof ?
I can flash, as I flashed my Typhoon enough times......but a Typhoon and an HD2 are 2 different beasts.
Many Thanks in advance for any who step into the Yoda roll here!!!!

hey man, instead of flashing a new rom why not try cht first. its an easy .cab install and truely is awesome. after you installed that, you can then go on to mod your phone with new clocks, skins....well just about anything really. cht offers a quality starting block to build upon. just a thought bud........

Many Thanks !! I will try this out first.
So I still nned to find out, is there an HTC rom upgrade to move me up to Windows 6.5.3 ??? (or what ever the latest version is )
Or is that only by using a rom from XDA?
The reason I ask is it would be nice for me to have the buttons along the bottom of the screen, rather then the 2 screen buttons and the start at the top.....my thumb is rather stubby, so getting to start is a 2 hand job
There arent any official 6.5.x roms with the bottom start button, you'd have to HSPL your device and use a cooked rom for XDA.
Check the stickies in the rom development section for all the info you need on this.
Im not gonna make an assumption as to which model of HD2 you have, if it is the american model (green and red hardkeys / big fat double chin) then you need to be aware of the radio your flashing....
Seeing as you got it from HK then its probably not that one, better safe than sorry though....
As long as you read up on the subject first and make sure your reading the correct information for your device you cant really go wrong.
95% of the "bricked" phone horror stories you see on here are down to people not doing their homework first....
You mention that you'd prefer a close to stock feel for a custom rom so probably either an "artemis" or one of dutty's roms would be your best choice....
To be honest though if your happy with the performance your getting from your stock rom then it might not be worth the switch unless you really really want the 6.5.x look.....
+1 on the CHT suggestion too.
A must have (in my humble opinion) for any HD2....
Hope that helps.......
Many many many Thanks !!! Both donwhann and conantroutman !!!!!!
I will try CHT first before a flash, then when I have read, reread, understand the steps required I will try the roms named.
I have to say XDA is an awesome place to learn....it was a godsend giving my SMT 5600 (Typhoon) new life. As my friend who now uses my old phone will tell you.
Now I will be able to keep my HD2 feeling fresh and fun, thanks to XDA and it's awesome people
Thank you greatly for the advise !!!
