I'm 99.9% sure it can't be done. Even on other HTC models it's already very hard to port over, much less a different brand of phone.
hello Sir , so you can do it and send it to every one ?!

In the immortal words of dumd and dumber
" so your saying theres a chance"
what about just porting the touchwiz and the parts it needs at first then the rest of the os
I think due to the Galaxy S being an hdpi device it would be a near impossible job of porting it to our mdpi Hero. I think the nearest you'll get is a theme. I currently have a near complete framework port of all the images, scaled and re-9.png'd it looks cool but it's still not the ROM is it.
I wish I could do this for all Hero users too. I saw my coworker has bought a samsung galaxy. This device is really fantastic. Also its customized andriod system is very impressive. For instance the overview of desktops. Not like HTC, all desktops are reduced to a almost unreadable size but are aligned in one line. The menu font can be changed. The contact list looks more like iphone style. For me, the buttons in HTC sence look too bigger. This will also minus some points.
I bought my HTC hero last october. But the device has been slighly dropped to ground twice but looks optically very terrible now. And the microphone in headset does not work properly. Generally speaking the HTC qulity is not quite confident to me. Plus the attractive samsung software, I am now heavily considering to switch to samsung. (Smartphone is a great thing. I cannot help to wasting more money on it)

Well the themed framework should run on any 2.2 Froyo ROM. But to achieve the look you need to be able to change the Clock, Date, Notification text colour etc... like in CM6 or Fusion.

I tried this on top of a Sense ROM (Villain12) yesterday,.. this morning my alarm didn't sound, the jogball started going crazy, but there was nothing I could do to turn it off.
Maybe best to try on non-Sense/Vanilla ROM.

I have tried it and it does run, but there are some alignment and graphical issues. This would be due to the resolution it was meant for, Nexus and the like. This guy over here - http://forum.samdroid.net/f42/touchwiz3-launcher-spica-mdpi-screen-1615/ seems to have scaled a version down to fit mdpi devices. Not sure if it works but gonna give it a go. If so, the next cool thing would be to see if we can get some of the widgets to work with it.. ? :S

works fine on the fusion froyo rom, shame none of the samsung widgets are included.
apart from that, its perfect!
So which rom do you guys recommend? It looks like bionix is nice because it keepes touchwiz, but eugine i hear is really good. Do any of these have 2.2? And what is the hybrid for eugines about?

1) Download ROM Manager (ClockWork Recovery) from the market.
2) Flash Clock Work Recovery
2b) Make a backup
3) Pick a ROM from the BIBLE in the dev section listed under the Clock Work section
4) Download it and move it to the root of the SD card
5) Boot into recovery and Install a ROM from SD
Pretty straight forward if you read thoroughly
I actually just rooted my phone! My first step on track hahaha. Ill look into the other stuff next, perhaps wait till 2.2 roms are made. Im installing mobile ap right now, or at least figuring it out.
from experience i can only comment on eugenes roms. I havent tried bionix.
Eugene if you want something lightly themed with tweaks and TW Launcher go with Eugene's Vibrant9 found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=743769
If you want something more close to the "vanilla" android which means you wont have samsungs TW stuff go with his hybrid rom here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773018
He did also release a franken-twiz rom here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=784142
for me the franken-twiz rom is too unstable, and some things didn't work for me, like widgets, but it also has some AWESOME features, and is also based on the latest "leaked" firmware JI2.
I use his Vibrant9 with JAC's OCv4 Kernel (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744655) and i LOVE it. very snappy and stable. There is also the "rom bible" here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=771111 with tons of information, you want to stick with the roms that are "flash-able .zips" IMO
As far as bricking your phone, the vibrant is very hard to fully brick, not saying it is impossible, but its hard, just read through the directions a few times and make sure you are understanding. And like ALex530 said it is up to you to find what you like, that is the beauty of Android.
I personally like Vibrant7 because well I do.
And if you want more battery life, and the touchwiz is not all that great to you, Hybrid R3 makes my battery last on average double than it did with stock or any of Eugene's other ROMs(which i have tried them all, and they all have good points with the exception of the frankin twiz, which he tweeted that he was not going to fix and just base it off a newer leak because of the issues), it basically removes allot of bloat ware(stuff that isn't needed to run the phone) and in return it makes allot less stuff running in the the background, which makes the battery last much longer. You can add stuff back into it, what I use is the TW Hybrid v3, and then I add the Sims and avatar movie back into it. But I liked both of those.
Most importantly if you are not comfortable with android I would stick to flash-able ROMs, the ones that require Odin can cause you problems if you dont know what you are doing. As long as you make a backup of your current ROM, if the flash goes wrong you can just use a Nandroid to restore and try again. I personally have flashed my Vibrant probably 60 times, but I am always trying the new thing, but lately I just use it for a day or so and then I end up going back to the Hybrid build because of the battery Life.
Well i got the whole thing down, i tried all the roms, but honestly there was nothing i really liked or found to my interest. Alot of the skins werent to my liking although i did like Frankin-Twiz, but i found Bionix to be a tad bit ugly in terms of design. Dunno i might wait till 2.2 and see what roms come out then. For now ill just probably stay rooted. I may try the roms out again and look into them more in detail.
I like the TWiz design alot, kinda grew attatched to it, and bionix made me hate it haha. Frankin wasnt bad though. Gotta just try em again.
Edit: Also Hybrid wasn't that bad either, but the TW launcher was still there? Is this to be deleted or should i just be recommended to make the other one my default?

Well I use ADW just for the fact it lets you have two quick launch buttons on the bottom of each screen on each side of the dock button and place which ever short cuts you want there, I put my phone and camera, Kinda like the TW but has 4 , and ADW has the launch dock button and 2 to equal 3 that one gives you allot of options also for themes that are free from the market. Also you can get a program called "Home Switcher" that allows you to change your default really easy and you can try them all. There is pro launcher, which is good too i just like having the quick launch options.

I'm currently on EB01, voodoo undervolt kernel from imnuts07, and I'm quite liking it... but I'm slightly bothered by the severe drop-off in theme creation lately, because the Fascinate is, well, old. I hopped on the Fascinate train reeeeeal late and will have it for a while still... I've heard good things about CM 6.2.0 and CM7 (the ones JT put out, because he loves us all), especially involving themes, should I switch? I never use camcorder or BT calling, and only rarely use MMS; but is it worth the whole backup-wipe-restore pain in the ass?
Sorry for the wall of text. I worry quite a bit about my phone, but have a huge interest in moving it forward. Hell, I don't really have any problems with Touchwiz, but Cyanogenmod just seems kinda, I dunno... badass, or something.
Suggestions please?

Well, if you really want themes. Hop on CM7 and basically you can flash any CM7theme on http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=527
or wait couple weeks or months(depends on source drop) for better CM7.
Huh. That's actually really cool. Other than the few broken things and the amass of themes, is it that much different from what I have now?
there are dozens of themes available for froyo....you could flash 1 a day and it would take weeks to get through all of them
i dont see how this phone can be accused of having a lack of themes at all

well it slowed relative to how it was after froyo dropped as we had to report themes daily so for a month or two tons of stuff came out
but relative to the thunderbolt which is new...we still have just as many themes coming out....to each his own in preference
but one doesnt need 3 new themes a day
personally i used to port a lot of themes but as a grew as a themer i started getting into doing a better job and putting in more detail so things take longer...also i dont use others original work anymore....so im not putting out 2-3 a week anymore
Alright, not hopping after all, as after looking, the majority of those themes are for CM7, and Fascinate's CM7 is so broken....
I'm loving cm6...best performance to date by far...haven't even thought about jumping to cm7
**Rockin jt's CM6**
But how many themes are for CM6.2.0?

Yes, I've found out the hard way that even trying bt on cm7 forced a battery pull, so it's definitely not for everyone at this point. But it is _awesome_ to be running a usable gingerbread rom that I can build myself! (i love you jt)
cm6.2 is definitely more stable but exchange push issues led me to give cm7 a try. So far no exchange issues with cm7 but I won't know for sure until monday...
btw I noticed that cm6 had perfect audio on a2dp vs stock eb01 that was glitching on me at least every 15 min w/pandora.
noobidity update:
neglected wiping dalvik cache on first flashing which caused several issues that I wrongly attributed to cm7. A2DP _does_ work on cm7.

So I've been wanting to check out upgrading my phone to AOSP GB and right now I'm looking at either CM7 or OMFGB. Only thing is, I can't really find all that much about what's different about each one to make a good decision about which one I should actually get. Can anyone help me out here?
MMS isn't working for me on OMFGB and it was working on CM7. No screen rotation for me on OMFGB. My radio would die pretty frequently on CM7 but I've been on OMFGB all day without it dying once. CM7 has more customization options.
CM7 Test build 10 is the way to go!
OMFGB is very hard to install, i couldnt get my wifi to turn on...It looks like it has cool features but i cant live with out wifi.
I also ran into an issue where i flashed the udated GAPPS and when i went into camera it would landscape and i couldnt get it back to portrait in the launcher!
Small things like that made me revert back to CM7

omgb just came out last night...it ll take a few builds to get close to the functionality of cm7 most likely
that being said, on a level playing field (on other phones) its about what you want
cm7 is more of a feature rich aosp that sacrifices some performance (i say some as for many its negligible) for more fuctionality and tweaks
omgb is more of a pure aosp a long the lines of something straight from google, but they do add more features
being more of a purist id imagine myself preferring the latter

I have tried it out but I am not thrilled by it. I still need my Go Launcher and still like MIUI a little more. I have been using a Galaxy Nexus not the ROMs here (although I have tried them). Am I safe in assuming the on screen buttons (home, back, and whatever the other one is) wont be on the GS2 since we have actually buttons? I love the ICS theme but maybe since we have had the theme for so long already it just seems old already. How do you guys feel?

Onscreen buttons won't be necessary when we get kernel source - they're a temporary workaround for our touchkeys not working right on I9100 leaked kernels.
So far, I haven't been impressed with the ICS leaks for the I9100. A little bit of kernel tuning might fix that, not sure yet.
CM9 is quite slick on the Tab 10.1 - so a properly working non-Touchwizz ICS port should be good. The problem is that Samsung's anti-developer attitude makes me doubt if CM9 will ever be properly polished on the GS2. There's just too much of a minefield of undocumented Samsungisms throughout the device.
I was not in a rush at all to get ICS. I saw Entropy's thread with working firmware and the in call audio fix so I though I would check it out. Turns out I love it. I think its a huge improvement. G+ is a nicer experience and Gmail has a new look. Having Chrome as the default browser is pretty nice with the option to view as desktop ..and since flashing CM9 I've noticed incorrectly spelled words get a red line under them for easy spell check/fix.. I am absolutely loving it. I can't seem to pull myself away from ICS now

A whole designated launcher with integrated everything ......its Touchwiz.....its Motoblur.....its....Sense. The official version we will see will be a themed settings menu and a new version number.....I guess its cool the wifi icon and battery will be blue.....there are a couple of things that make it alright in its function. One thing is for sure is that it makes the device it was designed around lag like a son of a *****....shutters like a frozen homeless hooker.
Maybe a cooked version comes out sweet.....Entropy will make a nice sweet kernel I am sure.....but official **** and straight AOSP .....I will be fine without it.

You guys do realize you can use any launcher you want right? I've used ADW and Nova on my i9100. Both work great...
ICS Fixed the Settings menu layout. In GB there was way too many things. ICS cleaned them up. I would say it's more MIUI then iPhone.
And EVERY iteration of Android AOSP has come with a new theme. Google keeps it fresh every time. This time was dark with lots of bright blue. Next will be Light with lots of... who knows, orange, maybe...
You can theme it how you like, you can still run what ever launcher you want. Or you can go back to GingerBread... All I can say is that for me it has fixed all my little complaints, if I had them.
I have ICS running on my captivate right now. I do like the new UI, but I have to agree that with all the ICS themes out there, I am not excited by the look. It does seem old already. At this point I'm on the fence. There have been some awesome roms come out recently in the development section so I can wait. FWIW, I am running [ROM] [CDMA] AOSP ICS / CM9 - BUILD7 [03/04] from http://rootzwiki.com/topic/11697-rom-cdma-aosp-ics-cm9-build7-0304/ on my 7" Sprint Galaxy Tab, and I really like it, even these "extra" onscreen buttons have added value in the tab world.

Exactly. Its got its hooks in about 80-90% of the firmware (just like Sense does).
As for liking ICS, remember the Froyo days? We had a lot of well working smooth roms and made Froyo enjoyable, then Gingerbread came out which seemed more like a theme than anything. But it was under the hood that made a lot of differences. The same is true for ICS, except the "theme" is a lot better, cleaner and intuitive. The under the hood stuff seems like a bigger leap then Froyo to GB was.
So am I excited, yeah. Theming can be done on any phone/rom so Im not worried about that, but where they placed things from older versions is much welcomed. Its the underneath part that Im mostly excited about.

I am OK with the direction the ICS OS is going.....its just the look and what is now considered AOSP that is hard for me to digest. I realize that it is just a canvas but I am old school...every ROM I download, I pull apart change what I want, theme it....some times build my own custom theme....so I am not worried about the look over the long haul.
What I can say is that I was running ICS on my HD2 before the nexus was even released....it was fun at first....but the new-ness rubs off real quick....somethings I loved, some I hated......None of those things are something that I feel I am missing out on. Hey to each their own....my brother in-law is rubbing his nexus in my face every chance he gets.....and refuses to believe, that I don't believe, his phone is the greatest ever. But I don't......I just don't think its the same android....its cool and sooner or later we are all getting it whether we want it or not.
The one thing I am going to miss, is taking my brand new bloated phone, and flashing a sweet. ....squeaky clean AOSP ROM and after it booted seeing that sweet minimal dock and nothing else......now after a flash the first thing I have to do is get that hideous launcher with their oversized gimmicky icons off?????.....AOSP just aint what it used to be. I think I am just jaded that they took away a little piece of my Zen man...
