HD2 - Windows mobile 7
vickythelizard said:
As we know the HTC HD2 is a very good phone let down by Windows 6.5 being the operating system, obviously the options that are currently open to us are to upgrade the ROM and install a snazzy new theme from this website or plonk Google Android on it.... however....
I have heard rumors that the HTC HD2 will be getting a free upgrade to the Windows Mobile 7 operating system.
Has anyone found or heard of any grounded evidence that this will happen or is it all a pipe dream?
All communications regarding this would be greatly appreciated.

I remember seeing free WM 7 update for HD2 few months back. But I don't think we will get it until the end of holiday season. Because they want to sell HD7 too.

Official word is NO. Apparently our phones don't have enough buttons (I am not kidding).

HTC is playing a nice game with us

HTC HD2 - 5 buttons
HTC HD7 - 3 buttons
HD2 has enought buttons , obviously more than Windows Phone 7 needs
I heard it's actually because of the extra buttons.
Not entirely sure what to make of it - whether is was real or not just came across it and thought I'd share:
Windows Phone 7 Running on HTC HD2?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8f_NJatLVQk
HTC support told me that there will be upgrade for the HD2.
Windows Phone 7 devices should have only a Back-Button, Windows-Start-Button and a BING-Search-Button. Additional buttons can be e.g. Volumecontrol- or Cameracontrol-Buttons. The HD2 has no Search-Button and the Call-Accept/End-Buttons and the Home-Button are not supported natively by Windows Phone 7, thats why the HD2 never gets an official upgrade to WP7.
@TriniKing_CE: This video might be true. Cotulla is trying to port WP7 to the HD2 but he says it will be more difficult than expected! So you have to wait for a stable and full working rom!

I have to disagree, I do not think that the HD2 is "let down" by WM6.5.....
It is far and away the most versatile OS as far as I can see. Ok the actual WM interface is dated but I still find the windows version of sense to be much nicer than the android equivalent. I have been using android a lot lately and find it to be so much more restrictive than WM. However it cannot be denied that it is much more suitable for the "average user" ( I tried to phrase that without coming across as a techno snob )
As far as the free upgrade to WP7 is concerned Im afraid you were misinformed... It has been officially stated that this will not happen

The general concensus is that this video comes from cotulla and if theres anyone that will bring WP7 to the HD2 it will be him (and the rest of DFT)
Theres a pretty good chance that vid is genuine however I wouldnt expect to see an actual release for a long time.......

I completely agree with that. WM 6.5 is a great OS and I really want to have a device running it. But most manufacturers have set up there priority to Android or Windows Phone 7. I preffer to buy a HD2, because it is the most exciting phone. It can run Android and maybe later WP7 if Cotulla get it working. But it also would be nice if any manufacturer like HTC bring out new WM 6.5 devices, because WM6.5 is not outdated.
I am a user which has no prejudices against any operating system. It is only a matter of taste which you want to have and which you need for your requirements. WM is almost the only OS, which is not addicted to any big concern. While using Android, Google is omnipresent, while using an iPhone you have restrictions from Apple everywhere. And on WM you can install what you want. I also can run non Microsoft software and if you want you can run Android by using HARET. Tell me any other OS which is able to perform a dualboot or wich is able to run a second OS parallel?! I guess there is NO!
Hi...
As you see, it is possible to flash the HD2 with Android, Bada and WP7.. but is it also possible to flash the IPhone Os on the HD2? This would be great!
mfg
kvn
No and for 99,99 % it won't be possible.
theres already a thread for this... And is it possible... It depends how you ask it.... THe HD2 is powerful enough to run it but since iOS is a closed operating system theres no real way of creating drivers and such for it.. Seeing as its only ment to run on the Iphone/iPod and iTouch there all very similar to each other while the HD2 is not
hmm if the hd2 is powerfull enough... there must be any way to flash the iOS =). I belive in the chine hackers =)..
hakuchi18v what do you think is the best OS for the hd2?

Android and WP7 both work fine...
Android has a better support base with the HD2 since everything works right after it is installed while WP7 works but you have to activate it to use the live services unless you side load everything and at some point that becomes a nuisance..
I switch between WP7 and Android... To me android has the benefit of the amount of apps that are available and they have more quality and unique apps compared to WP7 panoramic apps that gets boring real quick.. Same layout just different name and content...
If iOS was running on the HD2 ill use it as long as you can use all the normal functions like on an iPhone.. Probably even use it as the preferred OS on it
But it won't and for now ill keep switching between android and wp7
how is it possible to aktivate ph7 on the hd2? Oo... i had it on my hd2 but i cant use the appstore... so switched back to android....
Ok but witch android rom do u use?
You need to get an activation key from Microsoft once its activated you have all the live services including the market available to you....
as for the Android rom I'm using the gingerbread asop... Its a vanilla rom.. Without all the crapware some of the other ones have...
and how can i get an activation code?? And can i use them with the cracked wp7 version? Oo...
Can you give me a link to the rom u use?

To get the activation code you have to call Microsoft and tell them that you bought and HTC windows Phone and that its asking for an activation key every time you try to sign into Windows Live.... Some are saying that they're asking for an IMEI number and that they give them their HD2's and they give them the Activation Key while others say they arent giving them... SO it really depends on the person your talking to. but if at first you don't succeed try try again and try some more.. at some point some body will be more then willing

DFT

CWM vs DFT
CWM is a recovery tool that needs to be flashed using MAGLDR it gives you recovery options like in a real Android phone
While DFT is simply flashing it without having a Recovery option

You know the Androids big Problem? I heard a lot about the weak security.
I dont know how much safety WP or Linux can provide, but Android seems to be very easy to hack and run spyware and something on it.
Yeah at the moment we can laugh about it, but in a few years we will cry, it won't be funny when a virus sents 1000 sms to your contacts and you have to pay it...

I don't have the technical expertise to rule it out completely, but seeing as the MINIMUM hardware requirements for WP7 are far above the Mini's capabilities, I'd say it's extremely unlikely.

I think that had more to do with SE totally locking down the bootloader than hardware requirements. Could be wrong though.
In any case, if it can be made to work, it only results in more options for us, which is always a good thing IMO. So here's hoping...
Food for thought: Adobe has made it so their Flash player only works on ARM7+ chips. Wonder if MS has/can do the same? Wouldn't that totally lock us out?

I think (but I`m not an expert, I`m not even a developer) that our phone has too weak parameters. But somebody could try it and let us know how it works or even not works.

Hello!
Would my Galaxy S2 be able to run another OS smoothly? Like iOS or WP7? I'm not saying I want to flash anything here, I'm just curious whether it will work or fail in the long run.
thanks!

there are many many many factors
not made for " it " coding etc
certain roms are made for certain phones
just like trying to flash htc rom to a samsung
not sure if a IOS rom even exists
etc etc etc
its not like windows 7
u cant put it on everything
its all in the OS
if they made an OS that knows everyphone
then it is possible if the phone allows it
look at the ARM version if Ubuntu for example people who wanted to play with it got it working with a little tinkering
look
iOS is proprietary software for proprietary hardware, you would never be able to get compatibility for a android device.
in theory it could be possible, but it never will be.

There's a way to install Windows 11 on the S23 Ultra.
Just a side note, to my knowledge, it's a virtual OS, so it doesn't use the hardware in 23 Ultra to maximize performance and basically it can run on any Android device.
Haven't tested myself but here's a link.
