[Q] Signal Strength Widget - myTouch 4G Themes and Apps

For those of you that use Signal Strength Widget, do you experience significantly higher battery drain, or any higher battery drain at all? I've been using it for a while, and some days battery life seems worse than without the widget, and other days it seems roughly the same. Just looking for some input to decide if I should keep using it or not.

I've been using it for about a month now and have not noticed any difference in the battery drain, why not install 'quick system info' from the market click on 'process' and it will show you what is using the cpu the most

[Q] Display causing battery drain after switching to Voodoo.

Hi all, I recently switched from stock roms on my fascinate to a couple different voodoo based ones (evil, community rom) and since then I've had a huge decline in battery. When I check usage stats the display is causing 80-85% of it. I have it set on the lowest brightness and it doesn't make a difference. Could this be related to voodoo being enabled?
Unlikely, sounds like you might have an app keeping it active. Voodoo changes the file system, should no cause an issue with the display.

It depends if he is using any of the voodoo kernel, which would impact color, sound and so on.
It is said to have impact on battery life while on voodoo.
voodoo or non voodoo display will always be the highest use of the battery. I've not noticed any difference in battery I get on average 30hrs of battery life no matter what

Thanks guys. I'm pretty certain there's no stray app causing the drain, I've tried closing out all processes for a day and barely using phone or data and it still says display causes 85% of battery drain. Is there any other possible explanation?
Honestly, compared to other things, your display drains alot more power than anything. I have had my phone in standby all night and it will still show display as using the most power, I run mine at 0% brghtness most of the day(because I am mostly inside) and no matter what mine always shows 80% or higher in Battery Stats.
I may be completely wrong on this but based off other discussions on this same topic. The answer seems to be the same. That the diplay compared to the phone process and so forth, will always be a bigger drain on battery life.
Hope this helps.
Its normal for the screen to be the highest. If you are getting decreased battery life then first thing to try is resettimg the battery stats and recalibrating. If that doesn't work then you'll need to take a closer look at cpu usage.

Cell standby battery drain on CM7

I'm running the latest CM7 nightly, and I've noticed that cell standby is draining the battery. In battery usage, cell standby is anywhere from 50-80%, depending on how long the display has been on. And this is with a clean install (no apps, no google account sync).
The thing is, I'm traveling abroad right now so I don't have cell service but I do have wifi access, so I don't want to just put the phone in airplane mode. With other roms (I've tried stock and unnamed) there doesn't seem to be this issue.
Any ideas? Thanks
I believe it has no real effect on the battery life. It has been discussed many times and you should be able to search for it on the forums.

Is your battery ACTUALLY draining?
Remember, everything in battery stats is relative - if you reduce one drain source, the percentage for another will increase.
Cell Standby is a fairly fixed drain source - the only way to actually reduce it is to move to an area with stronger signal or put the phone into airplane mode. If it's high percentage-wise, that just means your other drain sources are very low.
Thanks for the tips
The battery did seem to drain faster with CM7 (not just based on the percentage of cell standby).
One thing I noticed is that with CM7 the phone signal bar in battery usage was almost all red, but with UnNamed it was mostly yellow. Could this be why the battery seems to drain faster with CM7? Would flashing a different modem help?

battery life drain with 3G

hi.
A few days ago I applied for a data plan.
Until then I was always using 2G network. Now I am using the 3G network while surfig or using the mobile internet. When I finish using it, I use 2G only and disable data.
Since then, I feel my battery is draining almost twice as fast as it was before. I am using the phone and internet exactly as much as I was using before, the only difference is that now I am using the data plan instead of the (very weak) WiFi signal. In battery menu, it appears "cell standby" takes only 4% of the battery life, but the real difference in battery life is very noticeable.
What could cause the difference? And are there any ways to improve battery life with 3G? (Hellybean 15/11 with newest kernel 1.9.5).
Thanks.
*edit* I have also checked, that if I leave the phone on standby with screen off on the 3G network with data on (but no apps that use data), battery level is decreased by roughly 10% every hour. If I use chrome for an hour using 3G connection and screen on half brightness, that would be 35% of battery decrease in an hour.

Try a different ROM? I remember on Hellybean I had really bad battery life. It drained quite fast, especially on browser. BTW, when you got 3G, did you change ROMs or no? Could you also post a battery stats screenshot? Also, data uses much more battery than WiFi. The part where you said it decreases by 10%, that kind of irks me. I would try a different ROM, such as PA 360 which is really good for battery.

[Q] Does poor signal affect the battery life significantly?

Hi all!
When I'm at home, I get about 3 bars of 3G signal. I have had this phone for about 3 days and the battery life is really bad, using basic apps drains my battery really fast. Should I change the network to 2G? Does the poor 3G signal affect the battery life significantly?
Much appreciated!
If 2G is enough for you, change it. It uses less battery even with good 3G signal...
And yes, a poor signal always uses much more battery life than good signal, no matter GSM/2G/3G/4G...
Yes, I have noticed that in areas where signal is poor (1-2 bars), battery drains significantly faster. It's quite irritating since this issue is non-existent on iPhones. I wonder if a software update can fix this.

It's the technique of every phone, even on iPhones... the amount sure can vary, but it's not inexistent...
I have about 1-2 bars at home and over night it takes about 2-3% of charge, very similar like iPhone I had before...
it does on mine. at work i get full signal and though i use it a fair bit, it doesnt seem to use too much battery but at home where i get terrible battery life it seems to use more battery

Keep awake process battery consumption. ...

Recently i am observing that my phones most of the battery is used by process called Android system.
Normally this should be screen beacause most of the battery is consumed for backlighting etc.
Is this normal?
Sent from my LG-P765 using xda app-developers app
I have sometimes the same.
I only used the screen for like 3h but phone is awake like 5 or 6 hours...
And when i loook at stats i see its its waking up. But i cant find any program.
Or what it is....
Odp: Keep awake process battery consumption. ...
Download some app like Ram booster and check out what is it that eats so many energy. It can be an app which is not mentioned separately in the battery usage info, so it is automatically "glued" to the Android OS process.

Use an app that show's battery usage, and try to see what's hogging the battery.
'Smart RAM Booster' is a pretty good app as suggested by fussek. However, I find it useful in killing unnecessary tasks/processes. As far as using it to monitor your battery; I am not sure whether Smart RAM Booster is the best option. You could try 'Battery Monitor Widget' or another app like it.
I would also suggest you get the 'Deep Sleep Battery Saver' app. Usually apps try to periodically update/push data even when you aren't using the phone (which also drain battery). What 'Deep Sleep Battery Saver' does is put your phone into 'deep sleep' so apps can't drain battery while the phone is on standby. You can also set the phone to 'wake up' for a specific interval (i.e every 5 hours) and then go back to 'deep sleep.'
Hope this helps!

No success. ...
I installed battery stats plus and battert monitor widget...
Both shows maximum battery used by android os.
Normally overnight battery use is maximum 1 or 2% but last 3-4 days it is around 20%.Also my phone becomes hot for normal usage also.
In last 3-4 days i installed apps like flipboard, any do, bookmyshow only.
Do youthink any of these causing this problem? But in battery use section they hardly drain 2-3 % of the battery.
I haven't tried "deep sleep battery saver"
I will try it now.

Hmm I don't really see anything out of the ordinary (then again I am no expert at these kinda things). Maybe someone else could give you some input based on your stats?
However, I noticed from your screenshots that you are connected to the Edge (2g) network. Edge is known to drain the battery a lot compared to 3g/4g networks. Do you have any 3g/4g networks in your area?
-Protomartyr
Yes i have 3g network in my area. ... but i was thinking that 3g takes more battery than 2g...
Because whenever i connect to 3g network the phone becomes hot.

Yeah sorry I confused myself. Usually you get better battery life with 2g (but at the cost of speed). What I meant to say is that when your phone switches between 3g and 2g, this switching back and forth can cause quite a bit of battery drain.
