hey guys, i'm not sure what i did wrong, but i flashed the nero5 rom and when i rebooted like it said to, it just went to the vibrant boot screen and stayed there. so i tried to use odin to get back to stock and now the phone won't even go into recovery it just has a black screen with a phone and a computer side by side with a yellow triangle with an "!" in between them. Every time i try to use odin it doesn't go farther then the cache.rfs step. any help please?

So on Thanksgiving my phone freaked out. blah blah blah. Used Odin and went back to stock. Since then i can not enter recovery mode at all. Not by pressing correct buttons or by using Rom Manager.
What it does is it boots up and goes to the first vibrant screen and will just sit there until I pull the battery.
I used to be able to get in to recovery mode with no problem... my phone was not hardware locked before. I just did not know if by flashing to stock would cause it to become hwl, or if anyone knew what the hell was going on with it! I also pushed in a button combo into the phone and wiped it to a factory fresh state also.
EDIT:
Now my phone would just not go past the first vibrant screen. Had to use odin to go back to stock once again... accept when it was done it did that error where i get red font at the bottom.... i was able to get it in to clockwork recovery... then i just flashed a zip that i had on it.. took a while but its working
Hello!
I'm new here, love the forums. However, I may have bricked my device and the threads I have read so far (I've read a lot of them), aren't helping.
I flashed (via ODIN) the stock JID and PIT files according to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734475. The flash was successful however when I go through the boot Cycle, I get the 'Vibrant' boot screen, then the T-Mobile splash, and finally the Galaxy S screen with the pulsating S.
However, after this the phone goes black, and I only have the four buttons lit up. They do respond to touch.
Please help with this situation. Thanks in advance!
Hey Swaadg,
I had this happen when I first got my vibrant. Try Odin again and if it fails, redownload it and try again. If that fails, try downloading Odin from a different source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=821625. If that still fails, check out this program: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=954509 Good luck!
As long as you can get into download mode, there is hope.
If you flash a good JFD image with a good Odin and it still doesn't work, that's a weird one.
You might fix what you've got by getting into recovery mode and doing a factory reset.
So I flashed the T959UVJFD.tar via ODIN3 v1.70. Now I get the Vibrant (Samsung Boot Screen), followed by the T-Mobile splash, followed by the Galaxy S pulsating screen.
Then it goes black. The four LED buttons on the bottom do however respond to touch. I just see a black screen.
One irregularity during the flash is that it fails to wipe the data during the reboot after flash.
Are you checking any extra options in Odin, or just what's checked by default?
I would recommend flashing with only auto reboot and F. reset time checked.
See the attachment showing how I flash with Odin.
Thanks for all your help!
I have sucessfully booted this helped for anyone with the issue in the future:

hey, i'm fairly new to androids and rooting, i was running a biftor rom and everything was going fine, from what i can remember ROM Manager asked me if i'd like to update some binary or something it said it would automatically reboot into CWM but when it rebooted it didn't load CWM instead it just got stuck on the boot screen with an exclamation mark, when i try and enter recovery mode i get the empty battery logo but the circle underneath the battery that usually spins around is froze, the phone has full charge as it's been on charge all night, i can still enter download mode, I've tried to reflash the recovery with 0din but i get more problems with odin getting stuck on 'setup connection' and 'nand write start' can someone give me some advice please? I'm on an S2 i9100 btw, thanks.

reflash the recovery via Odin??? or you mean you flashed a stock rom?
Reflash the ROM or flash back to stock Android via Odin

Above poster is correct, need to re flash a stock ROM via Odin.
Just needed to say here though, never use ROM manager on an i9100. It's a sure-fire way to screw things up or brick, as you unfortunately found out the hard way :/

Hi
So I've had my Samsung SIII for just over 18 months, and it's all worked fine etc. I've never rooted it or anything.
But this morning it will not boot up. When I try to switch it on the start up sequence happens, but it gets stuck on the flashing Samsung splash screen. If I turn it off it just restarts and ends up back on that screen. The only way to stop it is to take the battery out.
I've tried starting it in recovery mode (power+home button+vol up), but the standing, open android just flashes and I end up with the android lay down with the red exclamation mark from there. It then loops between the two androids and the Samsung SIII start up logo screen. I have tried to press the volume buttons whilst on the red exclamation mark screen but cannot get to anywhere from it.
However, it will load the download mode (power+home button+ vol down) just fine.
I have looked all over but most people encountering anything similar have rooted their devices, which I have not.
Also, last week I lost all of my contacts which were stored on the device (I don't know why) but that might have something to do with it.
I don't particularly want to hard reset the phone and lose everything, but if it's the only solution I will do.
Thanks.
In download mode is the product number shown or a blank?
If it shows i9300 then you have a good chance of flashing either a full stock rom or a rescue firmware (see general forum) using odin. You will need to factory reset in recovery afterward, but your data is almost certainly unrecoverable.
If the product number is blank then you have partial SDS and require a new motherboard.

Do has boomboomer said above but as a last resort before flashing back to stock or a rescue firmware if you flash PhilZ recovery in download mode with odin. You then have a Aroma option in PhilZ recovery to browse and copy phone files so you may be able to recover some data pictures etc.
Please read PhilZ thread >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2201860 << and the special features thread about Aroma file manager in post #3
Please note use as a last resort to get your data back! and read everything! Also all this is presuming you can get into PhilZ recovery after flashing..
I'm having the same problem , been looking through lots of topics. When I switch on the phone it's not booting android guy lays on his back. Download mode and Android Recovery are in my range.

And my newest version of stock firmware is swimming very nice I hope This will help someone
Details whether some of them matter or not:
Galaxy S3 (Sph-L710)
Virgin Mobile
CM12.1
Over the past couple days, I have been doing research on how to bring my phone back to it's factory firmware.
I tried a couple things, one of them ended up in being stuck on the Download mode, saying that the Firmware Upgrade was incomplete.
I managed to get out of it using a .tar on Odin to bring it back out. It worked. I was at my home screen. Everything was working beautifully. Honestly, I am still a nub when it comes to some of these things. So in that case I had no idea what I was doing.
Now, I have found the original firmware for my phone, and when I was getting ready to use it, I turned off my phone and rebooted it into Recovery mode.
Now when it starts up, it says "Recovery Mode" in the corner in little blue letters as it should.
And then it just goes to a blank black screen.... I have waited for probably 45 minutes, still nothing is happening.
I take out the battery, unplug it, all that jazz, and then reassemble it. And when I try to turn it on normally, just to get back to my home screen, it does the same thing.
I can't get it back to anything. I think something I did either erased or corrupted my recovery, and now it won't do anything.
Halp.
