Vibrant? Nexus one? - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I bought my girl a nexus one yesterday and rooted it put cm 6.1.1 on it and it's surprisingly really good and I'm thinking of trading my vibrant for a nexus one. Is this a good idea or what?
The things I like about the n1 is the smoothness of the phone such as going from app to app n the start up of apps and the fm radio is awesome. Theres more but im going to leave it at that.
Now my vibrant number one I love the devs who work on the vibrant they are amazing with what they come up with, I love the screen of course and the 16GB of internal storage and being able to play 720p movies such as blurays.

And the gps on the n1 Is amazing like 10x better than my vibrant

Could it be that it seems smoother because neither Froyo nor Eclair are optimized for the Hummingbird but they are for the Snapdragon? I'm reasonably certain that Gingerbread will be here for us soon enough. I don't know, but I wouldn't be willing to trade back down to the Nexus One, given that the Nexus S has also moved to the Hummingbird.

Don't do it this phone has so much more capabilities since they basically can port roms from other phones (ie. All the galaxy s models and maybe the nexus s) the nexus one will get outdated soon anyways my quadrant score could destroy any nexus one any day

I'm sorry, this is just a silly question.
But srsly, no. Unless maybe you're in the 14 return period.

I heard they are also offering a $50 gift card and free BT head sets along with the Nexus S for our Vibrants
Yeah you can get it for $529

Why you want to trade? The Nexus doesnt have an external sd card and its basically a Vibrant with a facelift

I don't think everyone uses external SD card and the nexus will come Gingerbread and get the fastest updates from the big G.
You want the nexus because it's new and just a hair better. It's the same reason everyone here wanted the g2 then mytouch 4g. It's "new" and "better". The vibrant has great hardware, nearly identical to the nexus, so you'd only be trading up for software and a slight facelift. Not worth it.
It's the new factor. You (and everyone else) will get over it in a month and be on to wanting whatever other new phone is out.

You're partially correct. But the primary reason that people are interested in the Nexus S is that its a "Nexus" branded; therefore, it will always have the latest version of Android in a timely fashion because it is maintained by Google.
I was considering buying one outright myself but the vibrant is so similar devs may be able to port everything to the vibrant within a couple days or weeks. Plus next year there will likely be dual core phones that come out that are going to be more attractive. I do admit having direct Google support would be great, but I'm going to wait and see what the devs do after it comes out. It's not like the phone is going to disappear from existence a month from now.

A facelift gone wrong IMO.
The lack of the SD card is bad with only 16g onboard. I came from a 32gb Iphone to the vibrant and quickly went out and bought a 16gb sd card to make up for the missing storage.
I doubt you will be able to.
First off, the Nexus S is only available at Best Buy or from Google.
I went to T-mobile last week and they told me that only Best Buy will have the phone in their stores.
I have a guy waiting to buy my Vibrant off me if I want to sell it... but the loss of SD card storage space, and the extra $230 I would have to pay has me balking.
I doubt I will get one.

[Q] What phone after the Vibrant?

I want to see what phone people here will be getting after the Vibrant.
I personally have had my vibrant for about 2 months, but after I heard about the HTC Sensation 4G (actually didn't hear about that phone till yesterday), I decided that I'll pay full price for that phone.
What about you guys?
I know that some people will be getting the LG G2x tomorrow, but I won't. I personally like HTC Sense, especially HTC Sense 3.0. And HTC has a better track records then Samsung when it comes to updates.
I think I might end up on Sprint. I can get a good deal on a plan and only pay 5 bucks more, which would end up being for texting.
Probably gonna switch in august. Whatever is the most dev supported phone they have then.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA Premium App
Honestly I think I'll be skipping this generation of phones. The g2x and sensation are nice but there is nothing about them that makes me feel like im lacking with my vibrant. Development will take some time to get going for them also while we have some nice stuff here in our dev section.
Also my contract is up this year and I dont wana renew until the dust settles from all this att/tmo business.
I'm definitely going to consider HTC. Sensation. Gonna have to play with one. I'll check out the Samsung, but it seems the HTC might have more going for it. I'm not due for an upgrade so I'd have to be very impressed.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.
Since im low on money im going for a mytouch 4g the devs over on there side is cooking up lots of roms there and it has and ffc , really wish i could get the g2x thou but like the guy above said we should wait to c the dev work and about the sensation i think it has locked bootloader so it will take long to get that cracked
Sent from my SGH-T959 using Tapatalk
I'm waiting for the SGS2, seems to be the only phone t-Mobile is getting with a screen larger than 4in, and 4 isn't quite cutting it for me
Sensation is 4.3 afaik.
Don't blame me, blame my keyboard's autocorrection algorithm.
Getting the g2x. I like vanilla android.

going to att merger time yurp im getting the real desire z or atrix but theyre already talking bout sense 3.0 on it
My next phone would be like 2 years from now. So maybe phones will be quad cores by that time.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
I was considering the HTC but it's ram is < 1gb so it'll be SGSII for me. Well, that and the benchmarks on engadget show it beating the crap outta the Sensation. Touchwiz 4.0 actually looks pretty good as well (can't believe I just typed that). Maybe Samsung learned from the mess that the original Galaxy S line was. The only thing I'm currently worried about is if the telcos in the states gonna ask for variants again; I really hope not because I'm sure that's what cause a lot of trouble for the updates stateside.
My next phone has to have a 4.3 screen a ffc, flash and hdmi out. I wont settle for anything less. I'm actually still pretty happy with my vibrant. My wife has a Mytouch 4g, it may be a bit faster but my wifi range is better and my web pages load faster in addition my screen is way better.
Ahh. Lots of different phones that people want.
I personally don't want Samsung anymore (TV's, that's a different story, I have 4 of them in my house. ), and I like HTC all around.
If I don't stick with T-Mobile (still contemplating the sensation), I may have to surrender to the Sprint, since they have TRUE unlimited/uncapped data.
Some people in hong kong complained about dead pixels and phone was acting slow on the LG 2x. Might wanna stay away from that. Even without hearing such thing, I am still all over the. SGS2 for the spec. .
Going with the Sensation.

Im pretty happy with my vibrant. I was pisses about the updates until I rooted. I think im gonna stick with the 4 inch screen. Its the best fit for me. Tmo G2X looks promising. I have more than a year left in my contract so im gonna wait and see what's up with the phone scene ag that time.

Yes it is. SAMOLED+
We just got a new froyo build, so the Vibrant may be headed for a Gingerbread release. If it does, I have no reason to get the Sensation.
If I were switching now, I'd skip the HTC Sensation and SGS2. The G2X seems to be a much more capable phone than either IMO. More importantly, I wouldn't want any Sense or Touchwiz crap on my new phone.

Was offered a trade....not sure what to do...HELP..

someone offered to trade me a white unlocked galaxy nexus i9250 + $150 for my black At&t Note......tempted....what to do , what to do.....
like the note...but want ics....and sometimes would like a smaller phone....but not sure....
I asked this in the galaxy nexus forum also...just trying to weigh my options..
Id say no but depends your needs. Ics wont change your life. Nice but not enough reason to lose sd expansion and a gorgeous screen. Ics is coming to note soon enough. Faster if you use a custom rom.

You'd give up LTE as well, right?
NO WAY in hell I'd take that trade. Just my opinion!

My opinion the note blows the galaxy nexus away only thing the nexus has is ics which well see on the note soon so I would say hell no to that trade

Ics would be cool and all but this phone does everything I need without ICS. If I wanted ics that bad, I wouldn't have gotten this device, I would have gotten the nexus.

Coming from a Galaxy Nexus I say pass. I loved the Gnexus but the Note walks circles around it. I do however miss the on screen buttons and vanilla ICS but having stock ICS will come when we get the official release.

There are leaked ics builds already out for the note that work just fine. Not sure why you'd still be waiting for something official from Samsung when it'll look exactly like gingerbread visually (touchwiz).

The three biggest advantages of nexus are
1. Software availability - they have full support of Google.
2. For me Google wallet is a big plus - that alone makes me consider a trade sometimes.
3. True penta band - if you are on T-mobile then this is a great thing too.
Hopefully over time all of the above will be available on Note (perhaps some alternative carrier backed payment system rather than the wallet and the modem from t-mobile Note) - but do you want to wait?
I love the note and don't want any of my friends to see this post but want to be objective here.
On the flip side, I've seen many Nexus users complain about lack of sd card, and the curved screen means you cannot get that cool glass on glass screen protector. Also no LTE for AT&T if you care about it. Tough call, sure
With alpha 2 ics ROM PLUS the tablet mod dagr8 just put out I would never consider it. I love the combination more then words could say

Because once Samsung officially releases ICS, they will be forced to release source code which means we will start seeing REAL ICS development for the Note like Cyanogen or other AOSP projects.
Im personally still completely stock and unrooted because every rom out there for the Note is basically just a themed rom with a few tweaks. I want freedom.
Now, once a complete AOSP version of Android is available, the Note will look just like the Nexus except it will get better support than what Google offers (my brother living next door to me has a Verizon Nexus and is still on 4.02), receiving updates probably at least once a week if not even possibly nightly.
Oh, and my understanding is that Google wallet is still not working on the Verizon Nexus. As far as Google wallet working on the Note, Im not sure if this is a carrier related thing or software related. I know the Note can do NFC, maybe Google prevents it based on what kind of device you have (similar to the Chrome beta).
Just get both.

im thinking about get the galaxy nexus also...$399....tempting..
Only thing that's hard for me to say do it is the camera, this 8MP is gorgeous. I don't know why Samsung put a 5 MP camera in the nexus when they have already had a great 8 out. This by no means it's a replacement to a dslr, but when I do use it, I'd like it to look good, already better than my old Evo's 8+5. I saw it for sale direct from Google for 400 and pumped the brakes when I saw that. They carefully word around it like 1080 and HD, but I don't want high definition blocks. Even this camera to an extent doesn't look GREAT on a 55".

I'm hoping to still get several more months, maybe a year, out of my Vibrant, so that's TBD right now. But if it died on me today I'd pick up a Galaxy Nexus since they're (relatively) cheap without a contract.

Same!
My 2 years are officially up in August. I'm hoping there will be some sort of leak for the next Nexus phone because I'm not blown away with the S3. :/
I think I could get another 6-8 months out of my phone but I'd rather upgrade to a phone that actually allows me to get 4G data and fully functional GPS.

I'm curious what it is about the Vibrant that you like over the Nexus that keeps you going back to it? Been looking at the Nexus, but still really satisfied with my Vibrant and don't want to invest in a phone that's not a significant upgrade.
Got a one s. I thought the lack of removable battery and no sd card slot would kill it, but I don't see it bothering me much. Galaxy s 3 would have been my choice but I heard its gonna be watered down anyway.

Sounds like most of you are going for either the Galaxy SIII or the Galaxy Nexus.
My only worry in this regard is the screens.
The screen is what draws you to the device and Super AMOLED HD screens (minus the plus) just don't do it for me.
But yeah my phone is just dying. So glad I didn't keep that Moto Cliq around though... THAT would be a nightmare.
___
So I guess you've decided it for me!
I'm going with Samsung again and getting a Galaxy SIII!
Snapdragon S4 processor is ok,
2GB RAM will put me in a haze,
Let's just hope battery life better than the Vibrant's graze.

Need a good Android Dev device

Im in need of a nice Android DEV Device, preferably Samsung and running at least GB, Prefer ICS.

I second this, If I wasn't planning on getting the new EVO this would be my device of choice (besides the gnex). It still holds up spec-wise, it has a great design and it was so far ahead of it's time's feature sets that it really isn't missing anything. Also it just got an official OTA to ICS so there's a vibrant community to support you and/or help you with development. Also since its a few years old now it wouldn't surprise me if you could get a used (in good condition) one for around 150-200$ which when you think about an unlocked phone isn't half bad.

SIII or Xperia S.
I'd recommend the Galaxy S, it's definitely still going strong, and ICS roms (all unofficial obviously) have taken off with aplomb, if you really wanna deal with ICS.
But the GB scene is still strong too. Plus it's cheap (got mine for 150 British pounds), pretty awesome and it didn't sell god knows how many million units for no reason!
