I have been working on this Dell all day now...trying to get it pushed to 1.6.1...in fact, mid-day I was able to install 1.5.1 back on it...I shoulda stayed there...
Here is my current issue...
While installing 1.6.1, the first thing I needed to do was restore....so I "restored to factory"....the problem now is that the machine keeps:
1) Turns on
2) Shows Dell Streak Logog
3) Goes white
4) Shows a message: Factory Reset start, please wait...
5) Quick shows a message: Please wait for reboot
Then it simply reboots over and over and over again....
THE GOOD:
-----------
I still have StreakDroid Recovery....
THE BAD:
---------
When I try to flash 1.5.1 or 1.5.3 after installing, it asks to reboot and it does the same as mentioned above...over and over again....
I have cleared Cache prior to starting...to no avail.
THE UGLY:
----------
I am able to get to FASTBOOT by using QDLTool...but the problem is that QDLTool doesn't seem to play nicely with Vista (the forums are saying this). I am able to get to 41.46 seconds on QDLTool and then the system craps out on me with the following error:
Wait for ADB device .........
ERROR[D2]: wait ADB fastboot mode timeout!
Please check that device is exist and driver is properly installed.
Download Fail! - 2011/02/01 18:48:52
Elapsed Time: 41.46 sec
I have changed the USB ports (I have 2 of them) and verified that the ADB install was conducted correct...it all looks good...er, except for the error message.
Any help here would be appreciated. $30.00 reward for getting me and my dell back up and running...I am close...
you need to install the dell drivers for the phone on your computer.
Breakdown-
1. There are qdl drivers called qser
2. Dell drivers
qser drivers are used for the qualcom connect via vol+ and cable plugged into pc.
the dell drivers load the adb driver your phone is complaining about.
My particular case and how I unbrick...
Do you have winx64?
1. put computer in test mode and load certs via streakdroid guide
2. put phone in qualcom mode
3. attempt to load driver qser.. this fails
4. reboot with phone still plugged in with the black screen in qualcom mode
5. open qdl tool
6. run it
7. on 2nd reboot the computer complains the adb driver isn't loaded.. my pc will actually start loading by itself via found new hardware.
8. after that is completed.... just reboot phone and put back in qualcom mode
9. re-run qdl and then it works fine
10. from there i load fastboot 309
11. upgrade to 318 froyo
I have not experience with DJ steve roms. but hopefully this helps you out.
This is what I did to come out from the same thing.
First do a facto reset on the first white font screen (not the streakdroid recovery).
Install 1.1.1
Wait for it to BOOT, now you can set up your account if you want to or leave it for after. MAKE SURE IT BOOTS UP TO ANDROID!!!! this takes up to 8 minutes. BE PATIENT.
Turn off properly without taking the battery out.
Install 1.6.1
done.
simple as that. Remember you CAN'T do factory reset on 1.6.1.
I did this about 4 times and it worked every time.
If you get the FC's try reinstalling 1.6.1 Without doing facto reset.
Hi,
I'm having a similar problem with my streak, rather than starting a new thread I thought this one might be a better bet.
I got a 2nd hand dell streak which was stuck in airplane mode for some reason - so I did some googling which recommended factory reset, which I performed by turning off and then turning on whilst holding the two volume buttons. Now I constantly get the message:
Factory reset start please wait...
Which changes briefly to
Factory reset done please wait...
Rebooting.
It then goes in an endless loop. Holding down the camera button won't get it into fastboot but I can hold down both volume buttons and get to recovery. I've tried installing update.pkg off an sd card but on the reboot from the install it goes back to the factory reset loop forever.
Any help would be appreciated
I'm trying to download repairtool from streakdroid but it's taking forever and I'm not really sure if it's needed on a stock phone?
---------------
Sorted, managed to get repairtool to download and I've de-bricked the device

Hi everyone,
Yesterday I made a Radio update to version 63.18.55.06_6.35.07.08. I made it putting the update.zip (radio rom) file in the SD Card.
All worked fine until the htc hero restarted (after appears the box with the orange arrow). Thereafter the Hero only shows the Hero logo when I turn on.
I tried to init the fastboot pressing home+power and home+back+power buttons (without SD Card and without SIM card) but always the result is the same, the logo appears and nothing happens.
The computer doesn't detects the Hero's USB connection and I can't run adb commands because it raises the "device not found" error.
Someone can help me?
Thanks in advance!
Did you let the screen with the box run its course?
Did the recovery console come back up saying formatting cache?
Have you tryed holding just back+power? ive never heard of using back+home+power
And also, i think your supposed to enter recovery with the sd in.
If that works then in that state is should be found by adb.
But yes, as the poster before me said, it should show the "unpacking" image, and then it should reboot. It should then go straight back into the recovery and the recovery will format the cache. If you tryed to turn it off at any point then, then something is badly mucked up. But it isnt bricked, and probably can be saved. Its only bricked when no logos at all come up on boot. If you managed to get it reconised by adb, you could probs format the cache manualy, though i dont know the command
All the previous steps after the breack are as you say, but after the "unpacking" image, the htc hero restarted and showed the hero logo instead the correct menu.
The problem with the adb is that the computer doesn't recognize the htc hero across usb. When I write the adb command ("adb devices") doesn't displays any device, and I can't run any adb shell for the same reason. How can I run any adb command if the device isn't recognized by the computer?
Have you tryed just taking the battery out, waiting 30 seconds, putting it back in, then booting the phone holding back+power?
And adb is very strange i find... Sometimes it reconises a phone, sometimes it doesnt, for no apparent reason. Have you tryed leaving it on the hero logo for a while then running adb commands?
If he has flashed, wouldnt the USB Debugging setting be reset also, wouldnt this be why he cannot access via adb.
Hi.
I habe exactly the same problem. I have updated radion.
Now ther come only the T-Mobile Logo and that's all.
I can not enter neither Recovery Mode nor fasbtoot does do something.
Any suggestions?
Lado
this problem shud be fixed asap because i think its a threat for all hero modders and owners as our phones get killed at anytime with this process. so guys lets try to find a solution for this problem. cheers
Updated Radio to 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26 and it killed my hero.
first the box with the orange arrow came up and then the whole phone died... now it wont even turn on the screen.
please fix?????????????????
I had the box with the orange arrow yesterday after flashing radio.
The phone isn't dead, I think it's just working.
I kinda paniced also when it happend but I got into recovery eventually.
When you flash a radio it does not actually install that image until your first boot (when you see that phone out the box image).
At this point DO NOT DO ANYTHING WITH THE PHONE just wait and it will install the image and reboot for you. IT CAN TAKE UP TO 10 MINUTES.
If you turn it off or otherwise interrupt this process it can really mess up your phone. however the general rule is so long as you can see the HTC logo when you turn on i.e. it still turns on you can in theory always recover, its just a matter of finding the way that works.
Tried rooting Tesco streak 15609 stuck at Dell logo
Hi, new to the streak but have dabbled very briefly in phones. I have a streak that I bought from Tesco's unlocked. I remember a reference number 15609 didn't write the rest of the info down. I am stuck at the Dell logl after trying to root it. I know Tesco piggyback of the O2 network but mine had no O2 logo at all. I was at 2.2.2 after over the air upgrades if that helps.
Any help greatly appreciated
easiest way if it still can enter recovery (remove batt then power on with both volume buttons pressed)then a menu should appear just do a factory reset and see if that fixes it(volume keys to navigate and camera shutter to select)..........if it doesn't fix it try the multi recovery flasher and follow the instructions........ good luck
Thanks, tried factory reset but still hangs. Just tried Multirecovery with my 3.51 rom but still no go. Goes through the motions saying successful but just hangs. I'm using win 7 64 bit if that has any bearing. Total flash time is a couple of secs?
Installed net framework 1.1 just in case but still the same. The three lights at the side stay lit up as well as the white Dell logo.
Your best bet is to get acces to a pc running XP. Install the drivers to run it in fastboot mode then use the QDL tool to reset the phone. This will drop it back to 2.2 build 305, you then may have to input the internet settings manually to update OTA again and you should be back at 2.2.2.
From there I'd fastboot the streakmod recovery then use it to install superuser and bob's your uncle. That's the technique I used when I almost killed mine on 2.2 trying to load clockwork recovery on it and the same thing with freezing happened!
edit:When I said use a pc withh XP to install the fast boot drivers it's not entirely correct. To use the QDL tool you need to switch the phone off, hold the up volume button and connect to the pc, then go to the device manager and install a specific driver from a specific place in the QDL tool folder but this won't work on windows 7 for some reason! If you want direct instructions let me know and I'll dig the link out for the QDL download and guide to installing the correct drivers!
Thanks for the input, much appreciated.
I am sorry, I should have mentioned that previous to trying to root the Dell I had Rom Manager installed and ran the clockmod app from it. It all ran fine it was only when I tried to root it using multirecoveryflasher that it hung at the Dell bootup screen. My apologies if this is vital info.
Thanks for the help. Copied the 188mb package to my sd card and followed the instructions and hey presto, working again
Happy bunny
I was using Type Fresh to change system fonts on stock 2.2 rom. Fresh type didn't tell me to reboot like it was supposed to. After manual reboot, it stopped at the Dell logo screen.
The factory reset didn't resolve it.
I found the update.pkg from the xda streak wiki. I can flash it successfully from the sd card, but at reboot, it still stalls at the logo screen. I left it there for several minutes, and it was still was stuck there.
yes but its a soft brick you should be able to fix it with a bit of reading here on XDA i would recommend the multi flasher tool it is easy to use but installing the drivers i think was a little difficult so yea bud good luck also did you try factory reset
Yeah, factory reset was the first thing I tried...
I'd run the QDL repair tool on it. If you can get your hands on it.
If not try the factory reset a couple of times consecutively and remember to give it plenty of time.
A factory reset of the DELL android system with all the junk they have in it can take up to 20 minutes to boot

Stuck on Dell Logo
Little note on what I had done to unbrick Streak from Dell Logo.
I had few trouble getting 2.2 installed
1) turn off
2) press both vol keys and power
3) select "Update from update.pkg from SD"
4) (re)Install update.zip (Steves) using Clockwork
5) Reboot and press both vol keys
6) "Factory reset"
tada!!! thats how I managed to get pass the Dell Logo.

Thanks for the tip, I read in some other threads about 3 mins. But last night I let it flash from the sd card, and left it to reboot overnight while I slept. This afternoon, I turned it on again and it worked!
Thanks!

You can't install 1.9.0 with the stock recovery so you would have to tell him all the steps to get into fastboot and flash a custom recovery.

Dell Streak through Rogers(Canada)
Ive read all of the "bricked streak" threads already and none match how my phone bricked. I was in the process of installing superboot according to the cyanogenmod streak wiki's instructions. After it installed it started hanging at the boot screen so as any good idiot who just bricked his phone, I googled and hunted on here until I couldn't type simple words. So I found one fix guide that I tried and all has worked except installing the stock rom. I will list the guild, its brief one issue I had to substitute the Rogers rom for an O2 rom as I couldn't find a rogers rom for the streak.
1. Download the stock recovery ROM and stock official Dell ROM. Make sure Dell PC suite has installed.
2. Rename the stock official Dell ROM to "Update.pkg" and copy it to your Dell Streak SD card.
3. Turn on your Dell Streak while holding camera button to boot Streak into fast boot mode.
4. Tap on "Fast boot Mode" button, wait 10 seconds then connect to your PC.
5. Open a command prompt, and navigate to the folder where your "fast boot-windows.exe" is stored.
6. Enter "fastboot-windows.exe -i 0x413c flash recovery c:\recovery.stock.img". Make sure the .img file is in c:\ directory. The program will now update the recovery image to your Dell Streak.
7. Once the phone displays "Recovery Done", remove the battery and insert it again.
8. Hold down vol up and vol down button while turning on your Streak to boot into Recovery mode, and choose option 2.
9. Wait till it installs and it'll boot into Android.
You have finished restoring Dell Streak to factory condition.
Method 2
1. Put update.pkg to SD card root folder.
2. Power up Streak whilst holding both volume buttons.
3. Select option 2 - "software upgrade via Update.pkg on SD card" by pressing camera button.
4. Press camera button again Job done.

Okay so I figured out the solution, I need to recover it to stock from what I understand. so I've followed the guide(s) and I still have the phone hang after "install update.pkg" with just a blackscreen. I've tried to put the streakmod recovery but I cant get it to install either, hangs on blackscreen as well.
Guys it will be great help if some body can give me the links to the official dell streak 2.1 rom.
Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same problem , did you fix yours ??
Mine hang a minute after the Dell logo ...
Just recentally fixed mine ie the screen after a year I managed to get it to boot did a reset as it was stalling at dell logo and then sometimes not even switching on just siting with leds on. So after the reset haven't been able to get it to boot so will give this a try see if it works so that I can at least sell it!
Rogers Dell Streak 5 - Totally Desperate Now
Great Forum everyone! Thanks for years of support. After three days of searching, scanning and racking my tiny brain for a solution I am finally breaking down and reaching out to all you good ppl ...I fear after several years of flashing various devices (albeit somewhat amateurishly) I have finally created my first true paperweight. Surely not!
Whilst trying to root my Dell Streak 5 using the Superboot method I think I have managed to brick it somehow...
Tried the method outlined at the beginning of this thread and all goes well until step 8 when my phone boots into Android system recovery <2e>. From here I have manually tried to "apply sdcard:update.zip" this hunts for the file but presumably its looking for a .zip extension not Update.pkg as I have named it. I tried on the off chance renaming the Update.pkg to .zip but then AR says 'bad package'.
Here' what I know:
Dell Streak 5 (Rogers) - Carrier unlocked via Streak Unlocker software (paid for)
Device boots up to Dell screen and hangs on logo, sometimes the logo splash
appears and hangs other times it just flashes Dell logo repeatedly.
When plugged in without battery and left volume key held down device did get recognized as A Qualcomm CDMA MSM device or something. So I don't think its completely dead.
Totally Lost at this point and desperate for help
Any suggestion or additional info would be most helpful.
Thanks
It happens when you using Clockworkmod.
I recommend you to use Streakmod. I had try Clockworkmod as recovery image. But it doesn't work well. I'm using Streakmod and it goes pretty well.

Thanks drsuocide I will give this a go and feedback...
Streak lives again
And my Streak has life again. Thanks for the walk through and help
Wish mine would live. It gave it up yesterday. I've tried every frickin thing I can think of including the QDL tool to revive it. Nada.
Guess it's time to part it out.
My wife was using her phone (completely stock, no mods whatsoever) and it started shutting down processes (contacts, calendar, etc). She held the power button down to manually shutdown and then rebooted shortly after. The next day, it started to do it again, so she did the same thing only this time it stuck on the "M" logo screen. When she brought it home, I held the power & vol down buttons in for 2 minutes and the phone began to reboot but still stuck on the "M" logo screen.
I began searching vigorously online for a solution and have tried everything. **NOTE** - I am completely unsure what version of software the phone was running before this happened. The first thing I tried was RSD Lite with the JB Stock file from Team US Cellular. The flashing fails during certain lines of the .XML file. I took suggestions from other users to delete the lines it fails on and let the file continue the flash. Once it reboots, it is still stuck on the "M" logo screen. I then tried all the other stock firmware files I could and the same result each time.
Next, I tried using ADB and Fastboot tools. My PC recognizes the phone when plugged in and running command "adb devices" shows the phone listed, but whenever I try to run a pull or other command, I get error:closed. I've tried all the solutions of making sure ADB files are updated, running the list of commands to get the daemon connection reset, etc. I can't push/pull anything using adb. I tried using mFastboot with no luck either.
I tried the above steps over and over for 3 days straight, hoping I missed something simple. My final option was to boot into Recovery Mode and run Wipe Data/Factory Reset. When I select that option, about 3 lines of command begin to run and the phone reboots and goes back to being stuck on the "M" logo screen. The command lines and reboot literally happen within 2 seconds. That tells me Factory Reset is corrupted, but I'm not 100% at this point.
Does anyone have any insight on if there is anything I can do at this point? It wouldn't be such a big deal to lose the phone, but we have pics/videos of our 2 year old that we never got backed up at home or in the cloud and they're very important to us. Unfortunately, the phone did not have and SD card. I'm honestly out of ideas at this point and have never felt so defeated.
I got brave and decided to just unlock the phone and attempt to install TWRP on it and that doesn't even work. It says it flashed it, but whenever I choose Recovery, it never boots to TWRP. It continues to use the stock recovery screen. I'm assuming this thing is just completely done for?
